People whose work you can no longer appreciate, knowing what jerks they are/were

John Phillips does it for me.

Barbara Walters. After her disrepectful behavior toward Rosie I can longer stand her. Within a month after Rosie left The View Barbara went on Ryan Seacrest's radio show and said Rosie was always talking about lesbian sex on the show which was an outright lie.%0D %0D Ann Curry. She and the Today Show crew laughed hysterically when they reported Tim Hardaway's comments that he hated gay people and wanted us all dead.%0D %0D Jeff Lewis from Flipping Out. I stopped watching his show after he hired a heterosexual male as his clean up person. Jeff is your typical gay male who worships heterosexual males. Gay people will never be good enough in his eyes, he's treated every gay person around him horribly and cast them aside.

by Anonymousreply 2806/11/2011

Any right wing Hollywood stars.

by Anonymousreply 2906/11/2011

R28 -- I don't get the Jeff Lewis hate. (I mean, yes, he can be a total ass, but not re: what you say I don't think as, if you would have continued watching the show, Jeff hired an openly gay intern/assistant -- Trace, who he later promoted. Plus Ryan was on the show a lot -- even with Ryan's new partner and their daughter -- until he and Lewis had a falling out.

Jeff treats EVERYONE horribly!

Mel Gibson -- I can never again watch any of his movies or anything.

As for Morgan Freeman -- ew! but I am watching him in something now and didn't know about this granddaughter thing -- Lucky Number Slevin -- but I'm watching it cuz of the others in it -- Bruce Willis for one and not really for Freeman.

Chuck Berry

by Anonymousreply 4106/11/2011

Ginger Rogers? What did she do?

by Anonymousreply 4306/11/2011

Kirstie Alley - what an annoying bitch! Whether it's on Twitter or in interviews, this woman is always acting like a childish asshole.

by Anonymousreply 4406/11/2011

WOODY ALLEN. Though his movies always sucked anyway--I had an invitation to see his last film from a friend last weekend, and I had to hold my tongue and graciously decline.

by Anonymousreply 4506/11/2011

David Mamet

by Anonymousreply 4606/11/2011

I don't reject an artist reflexively because they're not nice people, but there are certain people like Smell Gibson that I never liked in the first place and now that I know they're jerks just feel like avoiding altogether. With Woody Allen and Roman Polanski, I'm just tired of them. I didn't stop seeing their films after their assholery was revealed to the world, either, but at a certain point--with Allen it was "Deconstructing Harry," and with Polanski it was "Bitter Moon"--I said to myself, "You know what, I just don't feel like another journey into the diseased mind of this sick fuck."

by Anonymousreply 4706/11/2011

The Scientologist stars -- Travolta, Cruise, Kirstie Alley and so on. Does anyone take them seriously? I won't watch their movies and/or TV shows.

by Anonymousreply 5306/11/2011

The late May Sarton, poet/writer, crazy uber bitch lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 5406/11/2011

Any famous person involved in Scientology, Mel Gibson, Russell Crowe, and Kelsey Grammer.

by Anonymousreply 5506/11/2011

To R43, Ginger was a very right-wing, red-baiting bigot who was a card-carrying member of the DAR.

by Anonymousreply 5606/11/2011

Jodie Foster.

by Anonymousreply 5706/11/2011

R49 Didn't Jeffrey Jones get caught with child porn, or something equally awful? I'm surprised it didn't seem to really wreck his career as a character actor. It seemed to be forgotten. Strange?

by Anonymousreply 5803/19/2013

R53 I know what you mean (RE: Mel Gibson.) "The Year of Living Dangerously" was one of my favorite movies, too.

I know it's considered cheesy, but that final scene where he's reunited with Michelle Pheiffer in "Tequila Sunrise" while "Surrender To Me" plays is, I believe one of the most beautiful cinematic moments ever. But, I could never look at it the same.

When all his bigotry came to light, I remember Barbara Walters (on "The View") simply stating something to the effect of "I don't plan to see Mel Gibson movies anymore." That is exactly my position, as well.

by Anonymousreply 5903/19/2013

Generally, rapists and people who beat women. It's just SO uncool.

by Anonymousreply 6103/19/2013

I'm a huge geek who used to love Orson Scott Card's sci-fi novels. After learning of his negative views of gays and gay marriage, I'm not such a big fan. I was surprised, too -- Ender's Game is kind of homoerotic.

by Anonymousreply 6203/19/2013

Growing up, I was such a huge fan of the rock band The Who. Because of Pete Townshend's arrest a few years back (for kiddy-porn) I can't listen to them or anything he recorded solo. He turns my stomach. I know his defense was that he had all those photos for "research", but c'mon! Sick.

R40's reply is disingenuous.

If you can separate the emotion from the subject, then good for you.

If you can't, then good for you too - it's called subtext, and without it, most works of art become flat and boring.

Nothing to do with "intelligence"

by Anonymousreply 6803/20/2013

Gwenyth Paltrow

Winona Ryder

Natalie Portman

by Anonymousreply 6903/20/2013

John Voight. I always thought he was a wonderful character actor and then he started his racist, conservative rants and now I hate him.

by Anonymousreply 7003/20/2013

R70 - I used to think that Voight was a classic example of early-onset Alzheimers.

Then I discovered "Wernicke's encephalopathy" and "Korsakoff's syndrome"...

by Anonymousreply 7103/20/2013

Cat Stevens - the Salman Rushdie thing still ruins my enjoyment of Cat Stevens, music.

Ted Nugent - Cat Scratch Fever, and everything thereafter, was an abomination, but his 1st album really rocked. Now with his far right wing-nut racist bullshit, even that one is hard to listen to.

I really don't like Polanski but Rosemary's Baby is a masterpiece.

I could never get into Chinatown, though a lot of people also think that one is a masterpiece. I don't like Jack Nicholson.

by Anonymousreply 8303/20/2013

I used to love the TV show Happy Endings until I read an article that said the cast is really clique-y, nasty, and hostile to guest stars on set. I think what separated it from other stuff I've read about celebrities is that I could see how it might be true.

Now I have trouble watching the show without thinking about it.

by Anonymousreply 8403/20/2013

Most of the listings seem to be based on sex you disapprove of. How ridiculous.

Me either, so disappointing. Conversely, I loved Repulsion which a lot seem to hate. That's kind of a Rosemary precursor, but an acquired taste slow burn one.

by Anonymousreply 8803/20/2013

I had this problem with Luciano Pavarotti. Once I found out with a crazy and obnoxious egomaniac he was in interviews, I couldn't see him perform without thinking about what an asshole he was.

by Anonymousreply 8903/20/2013

Only if anyone had listened to you before, R81.

by Anonymousreply 9003/20/2013

Debby Boone

by Anonymousreply 9103/20/2013

Not that I was ever all that big a fan but I don't like it when Ryan O'Neil pops up on Bones. I find it hard to watch him after finding out what a truly horrible and abusive father he was.

by Anonymousreply 9203/20/2013

Bill Murray. Asshole.

by Anonymousreply 9303/21/2013

[Jackie Gleason}

Huh? He was renowned as one of the most generous, easy-going people around. His worst trait was his love of drinking though he was never an angry drunk.

What's your beef with The Great One, R15?

by Anonymousreply 9403/21/2013

I think the classic example of this, and the one not yet mentioned, is Ike Turner. He recorded the very first rock & roll record ever and was there for the whole scene, but is now only remembered as a wife beater. In fairness, although Tina was petite at 5 feet 4 inches, Ike was not much taller and weighed just 120 pounds while they were together. Casting big hulking Lawrence Fishburne as Ike in that movie about them was the nail in his coffin. It was like watching a Doberman going after a poodle. In reality it was more like a Jack Russell Terrier going after a Poodle.

by Anonymousreply 9503/21/2013

Another one for Smell Gibson

by Anonymousreply 9603/21/2013

Woody Allan, Ben Affleck, Ryan Gosling

by Anonymousreply 9703/21/2013

I get a lot of shit for never having seen Forrest Gump but all my friends know that I won't watch anything Tom Hanks is in. I think he is a smarmy asshole who thinks he's way more important than he actually is. Many years ago when Vlade Divac played for the Lakers and the Arsenio Hall show was still on, Vlade and Tom were Arsenio's guests and I watched because I loved Vlade. Tom was a total condescending prick to him and made fun of his name and his weak English. It really pissed me off and I still dislike Hanks. I did see Philadelphia but no other Hanks flicks after 1991. And don't even get me started on his "rapper" son Chet Haze.

by Anonymousreply 9803/21/2013

Oh and racist and shitty movie maker Spike Lee. I knew he was a racist tool and never saw his movies so it didn't change my appreciation but rather nipped it in the bud.

by Anonymousreply 9903/21/2013

It seems like celebs who are good people are the exception rather than the rule, lol!

by Anonymousreply 10003/21/2013

Another vote for Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise. I can't watch any of their movies anymore.

by Anonymousreply 10103/21/2013

Bill Cosby Jay Leno Mel Gibson

by Anonymousreply 10203/21/2013

Conversely, though, I will watch a show or movie that I may otherwise have no interest in if I hear one of the stars is a nice guy/gal. It does work both ways and it would be cool if everyone were nice anyhow but would actually pay for some Hollywood people to be.

by Anonymousreply 10303/21/2013

Tom Cruise was always an idiot and also a very bad actor. Gibson at least had acting talent.

by Anonymousreply 10403/21/2013

R103 - true.

Anything with John Lithgow, Rue McClanahan, JGL and Ian Charleson (yes, I know two of them are dead)

I also tend to like anything with Jeffrey Jones.

by Anonymousreply 10503/21/2013

Woody Allen

Klaus Kinski was always known as seriously insane, but now that I know he raped and abused his children, I'm just too creeped out, I don't think I want to watch him ever again.

by Anonymousreply 10603/21/2013

I was never much of a John Phillips fan anyway, but I'd say him. Jesus, he was seriously disturbed.

by Anonymousreply 10703/21/2013

Kirk Douglas

by Anonymousreply 10803/21/2013

Anyone that is involved with PETA is nobody that I want to watch or support. I am an animal lover from way back and have worked for a few rescues but PETA is a fucking terrorist organization and I'm tired of idiots jumping on their bandwagon to show how hip they are. It has the opposite effect and makes me dislike them and question their intelligence.

by Anonymousreply 10903/21/2013

Woody is the first that comes to mind. Also Bing Crosby. I can't watch any of those silly old movies without thinking of what a total bastard he was to his children. Sociopath.

by Anonymousreply 11003/21/2013

Why is Elizabeth Edwards a jerk, R1? I don't know much about her or her ex-husband except that he's a cheating idiot who fathered a child with someone else while they were married.

Unless, of course, I'm being dense and R1 is just being a typical R1.

by Anonymousreply 11103/21/2013

I will never understand the huge amount of hatred directed towards Anne Hathaway on this site. Yes, she comes across as insufferably pretentious and not anyone I'd want to be friends with, but I don't think she's ever said or done anything that's even interesting enough to merit the level of hatred. She's boring.

by Anonymousreply 11203/21/2013

My mother would not listen to Shirley Bassey after her neglected daughter committed suicide.

by Anonymousreply 11303/21/2013

Adam Baldwin

by Anonymousreply 11403/21/2013

I agree r112. I really don't care enough about Anne to hate her. I saw "The Devil Wears Prada" because I read the book and I like Meryl. I won't see Les Mis because I am not interested in it at all. She doesn't actively offend or not offend me. She's just an actress.

by Anonymousreply 11503/21/2013

I was also really disappointed when I found out Adam Baldwin was a rightwing nut job too R114, I really liked him on Firefly. I knew he was a conservative when he started on Chuck but then he got into that fight on Twitter with that female comedian for supporting gay rights and after that I was Done!

by Anonymousreply 11603/21/2013

[quote]Klaus Kinski was always known as seriously insane, but now that I know he raped and abused his children, I'm just too creeped out, I don't think I want to watch him ever again.

Good one. I forgot about that creep.

"Bing Crosby. I can't watch any of those silly old movies without thinking of what a total bastard he was to his children."
