Their answer to being called a "dying city". Pretty cool.

Simply amazing. Love these kind of collective efforts, they make me tear up with joy.

I hated that ridiculous meaningless song when it was first released and it is a pain to hear it now.
That's the song this dying sing city came up with?
What a horrid looking group of people. Does anybody know how to buy clothes that fit in that town?
Is there a stylist there or just barbers.
The hipsters had no irony!

Ironic song choice.

Song is totally wrong and the camera blocking was woefully uncoordinated. %0D %0D I mean, I give them credit for [/italic] TRYING [/italic] and I realize it's [/italic] Michigan, [/italic] but, still.....%0D %0D D-

What they needed was a really big crowd. What they did reflected the fact that they couldn't get one.%0D

Grand Rapids is lamer than Kalamazoo and Battle Creek.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||12/22/2012|
Grand Rapids was just named the country's eighth best-performing city during the economic recovery, so they're doing something right.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||12/22/2012|
This is a much better dying-in-Michigan group performance, with a massively better song. Really uplifting.
It closed about a month later.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||12/22/2012|
It's not only a GREAT rapids but a GRAND rapids
|by Anonymous||reply 10||12/22/2012|
Wow, that was really incredible! Tribute to the human spirit!
|by Anonymous||reply 11||12/22/2012|
Guess they had nothing better to do. A sure sign of a dying city.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||12/22/2012|
Grand Rapids is a nice city on the surface, but I could never live or work there. Friendships, promotions, everything is based on religion and ethnicity (if you aren't Dutch Reformed, you're not welcome... the phrase they use is 'if you ain't Dutch, you ain't much). Until they address this nonsense, GR will continue to die.

who the fuck dug this ancient shit up? The vid is nearly three years old.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||12/22/2012|
They were actually relatively successful before the 2001 recession. It served them right to lose their jobs, though, since they always voted Republican and put up with the fucking DeVos crowd.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||12/22/2012|
No, the Gumm Sisters were from Grand Rapids, Minnesota
|by Anonymous||reply 17||12/22/2012|
I'd say those were the public employees of the city. Not exactly a grassroots effort.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||12/22/2012|
[quote]I'd say those were the public employees of the city.
Then you'd say wrong. The city was involved only to grant permits for filming.

No, the video is about a year and a half old (May 2011). And so is this thread. R7 felt the need to bump the thread just to tell us that "Grand Rapids is lamer than Kalamazoo and Battle Creek." That's the new DataLounge: Threads from a year or two ago get bumped for absolutely no reason.

clearly dying along with your high school English skills. Periods go INSIDE quotation marks in American English.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||12/23/2012|
Ooh a Datalounge Nazi.
Do it MY way or else. If they didn't want you to bump threads, they'd disable the feature.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||12/23/2012|
Right R19, that's why we see police cars and fire trucks rolling down the street, because no public employees were involved in the film. Do you not have a brain?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||12/23/2012|
... and how is Newsweek doing?

Grand Rapids is OK, it's the suburb Benton Harbor that is dying fast.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||12/27/2012|
Benton Harbor is not a suburb of GR - they're about an hour and a half apart from each other.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||12/27/2012|
And Zion is an hour and a half from Chicago and it's a suburb of Chicago. So you're mistaken.
