Can your eyes change color during your lifetime?

I swear I just noticed my warm brown eyes now have slate blue rings around them. I'm firmly in middle age and I used to wear contacts (started with the hard ones in 1969) so I am used to looking closely at my eyes over the years. Anyone else experience subtle eye color changes as you've aged?

by Anonymousreply 14006/26/2016

I have "hazel" eyes... they change color frequently.%0D %0D I remember once, being REALLY hung over after a night of partying (birthday!), and looking in the mirror and seeing my eyes be the most INTENSE forest green... it was jaw-dropping. Unfortunately, when I recovered, I returned to my usual color.%0D %0D But I've seen my eyes turn bright gold (light tan I guess), dark brown, green, steely gray, and pretty much everything but blue. %0D %0D Normally they're a mottled brown-ish green-ish color that just doesn't stand out. But some times my eyes can be very striking.%0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 105/14/2011

Mine did, going from dark blue to greenish blue at about the age of 6 and then true green by my teens.

by Anonymousreply 205/14/2011

OP, you are demonstrating the classic symptoms of iral dysmorphia. This is a particularly devastating illness because it causes blindness very swiftly (we're talking days.). Get to an optician ASAP!

by Anonymousreply 305/14/2011

Mine used to be light green and now they're getting brown edges.

by Anonymousreply 405/14/2011

I spit at iral dysmorphia! I laugh in its face --- Ha! Ha! Ha!

by Anonymousreply 505/14/2011

Some people find their eye color fades as they get old, especially around the edge of the iris. Doesn't that make you feel great, OP? %0D %0D And it's a totally different issue than R1's constant color change, lots of people with a light, indeterminate eye color will see the same changes. %0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 605/14/2011

I'm friends with a couple whose son had the most beautiful blue eyes when he was a baby. When I met them, he was only a year and a half...he's now 7 and his eyes are hazel.

by Anonymousreply 705/14/2011

Yes, eyes can change color...believe it or not! Light eyed people are known to produce brown eyes, after going through a shock or depression, and sometimes the reverse. %0D %0D My brown eyes turn deep blue when I cry.

by Anonymousreply 805/14/2011

My eyes are brown, except that from time to time they're a nice blue-green plaid.

by Anonymousreply 905/14/2011

Thanks, Crystal!

by Anonymousreply 1105/14/2011

This is a thread for white people.

by Anonymousreply 1205/14/2011

WTF is color is "warm" brown?

by Anonymousreply 1305/14/2011

R12, not necessarily.

by Anonymousreply 1405/14/2011

Those blue rings are lipid infiltrates--the rings are called corneal arcus or arcus senilis. Your cholesterol levels may have increased since your younger days. Have your blood levels checked. Sometimes it's just heredity and not high cholesterol. p.s. Cleofa, black people not only get this, but usually a decade earlier than white people. Eye rings love ya, girl!

by Anonymousreply 1505/14/2011

What does it mean if you have kaleidoscope eyes?

by Anonymousreply 1605/14/2011

It means you're on drugs.

by Anonymousreply 1705/14/2011

Can your eyes change color even if you're color blind? What about just red/green color blind?

by Anonymousreply 1805/14/2011

When I was young, my eyes were brown. Now they are green. My mom's eyes were brown and now that she is much older they are blue.

by Anonymousreply 1905/14/2011

sometimes mine look blue, sometimes green

by Anonymousreply 2005/14/2011

Listen to r15 as that is the correct diagnoses. Rings of senilis is correct. You OP, are either advanced in years, or your health is compromised. See a good ophthalmologist and he will confirm your tissue color change and likely direct you to an internist.

by Anonymousreply 2105/14/2011

Mine have fluctuated between green, grey, and blue my entire life, depending on the day, what I'm wearing, eye makeup, etc. But grey-green is the norm. In the last few years, though, I've developed a gold halo around my pupil and a dark blue ring around the outside edge of my iris. hope it's not a sign of something bad.

by Anonymousreply 2205/14/2011

It means you are going to die

by Anonymousreply 2305/14/2011

Mine were bright blue as a kid, now they are green. As someone said above, when I am hungover they turn a freakish green colour, which leads my students (all Asian) to scream: "Teacha! Vampire!"

by Anonymousreply 2405/14/2011

You're probably mishearing something which means, "Teacher stinks of vomit and bourbon...and regret!"

by Anonymousreply 2505/14/2011

I know a girl whose eyes turned yellow. Then she died.

by Anonymousreply 2605/14/2011

I saw Sammy David Jr's glass eye at the Freakatorium.

by Anonymousreply 2705/14/2011

R24 - You're probably right. Somewhere amongst their shrieks is probably "go home you white babarian, we don't give a fuck about English.." I would hear it too, if I wasn't so drunk and regretful.

by Anonymousreply 2805/14/2011

Sometimes my eyes get red, so I know they can change color.

by Anonymousreply 2905/14/2011

OP are you a hot daddy?

by Anonymousreply 3005/14/2011

My mom is a brown/blue recessive. My dad had blue eyes. My mom has vitiligo so bad she has NO melanin in her skin. She is like a big pink lab rat. Her eyes went from medium brown to dark blue. I don't have vitiligo but as I have aged my eyes have gone from dark brown to medium green. Strange.

by Anonymousreply 3105/14/2011

Thank you R15 and R21 for the information about arcus.

I looked into it and I found a picture that is similar to what I am noticing with my eyes. I am 56 and I am taking a blood lipid medicine (Antara) for my hereditary high triglycerides. Both of my brothers have high triglycerides as well. Some families just do.

I also have creases in my ear lobes. Both of these -- arcus and lobe creases -- are indicators of possible heart disease.

Both of my parents died of cancer and so heart disease doesn't scare me quite as much. I had rather, I think, die from a heart attack or heart failure rather than cancer.

No doctor has said anything to me yet about heart disease -- not even a stress test.

Que sera.

by Anonymousreply 3205/15/2011

Don't all of these variations come under "hazel?"%0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 3305/15/2011

I've got hazel eyes. Today we're leaning more towards a watery dark green.

by Anonymousreply 3405/15/2011

r28, if you WEREN'T so drunk and regretful.

by Anonymousreply 3505/15/2011

Interesting R31. My grandfather had vitiligo and his eyes went from brown to blue also.

by Anonymousreply 3605/15/2011

I just found out that my eye color is called "Glasz." It's an eye color that combines green, blue, grey and yellow in one iris. The term is Breton. My eyes are similar to the one in the picture, but a bit greener, and with a thin navy blue ring around the iris.

by Anonymousreply 3705/15/2011

OP_ I just noticed this very thing about myself. Saw myself on camera today, and I couldn't believe it; My brown eyes have gone green.

by Anonymousreply 3805/15/2011

What is it if you have Bette Davis Eyes?

by Anonymousreply 3905/15/2011

Interesting, R37. I've seen eyes like that.

by Anonymousreply 4005/15/2011

I love the posters who insist their eyes change color with their emotions, as if they had Mood Eyes.

by Anonymousreply 4105/15/2011

My eyes were green all my life until a couple years ago. Now they're blue. It was shocking. I've always thought that it was an immutable quality, like fingerprints.

by Anonymousreply 4205/15/2011

I learned a new word today, my eyes are "glasz"! %0D %0D So, gals, what kind of makeup goes with glasz eyes? Would this be too much? I find a hint of blue (or green) makes my eyes look bluer or greener, as I prefer.

by Anonymousreply 4305/16/2011

I am not trying to be mean, but I really hope you go to the doctor soon.

by Anonymousreply 4405/16/2011

I like blue eyes.

by Anonymousreply 4505/16/2011

Has anyone ever have their urine turn from yellow to red in their lifetime?

It's pretty.

by Anonymousreply 4605/16/2011

My eyes are Green Hazel. When I am unwell the are olive green. On the day of my Father's funeral they turned deep blue but were back to hazel by the next day and this never happened again!

by Anonymousreply 4702/27/2012

OP, my eyes have changed color. When I was young, at least until I was in my early 20s, they were an dark brown, pretty much all one shade.

Now they are light brown with lots of amber and green flecks in them.

I don't even know when they changed, as I was in my late 40s when I noticed the difference.

The surprise to me was the realization that I must not ever pay attention to what I look like when I shave or brush my teeth or look at myself in the mirror, or I would have noticed.

by Anonymousreply 4802/27/2012

OP can't read your current replies as he ignored R15's advice and is now blind.

Why did R47 bump this thread from last May?

by Anonymousreply 5202/27/2012

Eye-color change is a side effect of the glaucoma drops I use in my eyes. They were brown, and now they are bluish. I like it.

by Anonymousreply 5302/27/2012

I have hazel eyes. But if I wear a dark green shirt or sweater, they look green -- ditto with bright turquoise/aqua.

You people with hangovers & stress, do you know what you were wearing at the time?

by Anonymousreply 5402/27/2012

I'm 60 usually have hazel eyes, sometimes girl friends have said they turn more blue when I'm aroused. However recently my current girl friend told me something I'd never heard before that on three occasions my eyes turned totally black, the 'whites' & all. I asked her if it was just that my iris got bigger but she said my whole eyes turned black. I asked if she found it frightening & she said No because I had a beautiful smile on my face at the same time. I believe she is sincere about this but am having her keep my camera on her bed side stand to capture my black eyes the next time it happens. Been searching all day on the subject of totally black eyes & only find stuff that sounds made up with a lot of fear attached. I'm a good regular guy not some demon just wondering about this strange change.

by Anonymousreply 5503/04/2012

My eyes would get so intense and vivid after a night of cocaine.

by Anonymousreply 5603/04/2012

I have a thick blue ring in my eyes browns.. My doctor said that I don't have high cholesterol.. genetic eyes ?

by Anonymousreply 5704/08/2012

When I was around 7 years old ,no even before that my eyes were hazel with blue, but now I'm 12 years old and they are just hazel it changes colors a lot like if I'm tiered which is a lot lately cause of school and that it, it turns brown! But if I cry or if I'm extremely tiered or I'm sick or something it turns green with only a hint of brown!!! In the sun my eyes turn different colors each time!!! Oh ya sometimes you can't tell what color it is.In some ways my eyes are very mysterious! My mom's eyes are brown,Dark brown changes to time and my dads eyes are blue...

by Anonymousreply 5804/14/2012

Avoid R14's link unless you want some fucking virus.

by Anonymousreply 5904/14/2012

my eyes were hazel last year and change colors now that im 13 my eyes are the greenish color eyes that rihanna have

by Anonymousreply 6004/15/2012

OP, it's called arcus sinilus, the blue rings are the results of age.

by Anonymousreply 6104/15/2012

r7, I had deep violet-blue eyes until I was about two, and now I have hazel eyes. Depending on the light they can be gold, brown or various shades of green. People always think I am wearing freaky coloured lenses.

by Anonymousreply 6204/16/2012

Always had brown eyes. In my 30s they developed a greenish tint and became more olive colored. Now thanks to glaucoma medication, they are becoming more brown.

by Anonymousreply 6304/16/2012

Yep my eyes were brown for 47 years I just noticed they are now hazel, i can now see greeny bluey bits in my eyes.

by Anonymousreply 6404/20/2012

I once heard that all newborn infants have blue eyes.

by Anonymousreply 6504/20/2012

I have "hazel" eyes that pick up color easily. I've noticed if I've been teary or crying they are an intense turquoise. Otherwise they are normally a greeny/blue color. Started off as a child with baby blue.

by Anonymousreply 6604/20/2012

OK, DL taught me another important lesson. I have fucking earlobe creases! Jesus, I didn't know that was a sign of heart disease. My eyes have not changed color, they've always been blue. Although I think they are a bit faded compared to how they looked when I was younger. I'm in my 40s now.

I don't think I ever noticed these earlobe creases before. Is this something that can suddenly develop?

by Anonymousreply 6704/22/2012

I'm black and my eyes went from brown to grey/blue. So yes black people eyes can change.

by Anonymousreply 6805/06/2012

As I gotten older, I went from brown eyes to brown with blue flex. Had my eyes checked, I still have healthy eyes.

You have "mood eyes."

by Anonymousreply 7105/06/2012

I have all white eyes.

by Anonymousreply 7205/07/2012

Mine were light green until I hit my twenties. Then patches of brown appeared.

I thought my mother had hazel eyes. She angrily informed me that her eyes were ice blue. She's dead now, so my nieces believe she had hazel eyes…and a limp.

by Anonymousreply 7305/07/2012

My eyes were dark brown until I stared at exploding Rutan spaceship. I was temporarily blinded and wanted the Doctor to slay me, but when my eyesight returned my eyes had turned blue

by Anonymousreply 7405/07/2012

But, now you have the secret to saphic nerd youth, R74, so that worked out very well for you.

by Anonymousreply 7505/07/2012

I'm wondering if the west coast finally fell into the sea.

We're at 75 posts and no one has mentioned iridology - an alternative medical diagnosis in which changing eye color and pattern is used to diagnose liver disease and bowel cancer.

by Anonymousreply 7605/07/2012

My eyes were always blue but as I got older I noticed they turned a shade of bluish green and they also turn turquise when I cry or are irritated. I am also ultra sensitive to light, I tear in the sun and on cloudy days. I have to wear sunglasses almost all the time, especially on a sunny day after it snows. I love my eye color now more than ever, they are the same color as my dad's were. Just wish I had his naturally long curly eye lashes.

by Anonymousreply 7705/07/2012

Former NYC mayor David Dinkins has the blue rings around his eyes. At first I thought he was multi-racial, but then when I saw my ex father-in-law get them (he was a dark eyed pure Sri Lankan) I realized it had something to do with aging, and possibly unhealthy aging at that. In my ex FIL's case, he was ill with all kinds of cardiac and vascular problems- maybe the bluing of the eyes should have been a warning to the family that a series of strokes were coming due to his out of control blood pressure and cholesterol.

by Anonymousreply 7805/07/2012

I went from dark brown eyes to grayish brown eyes. I swim every other day, so i think it's the chlorine in the water.

by Anonymousreply 7905/07/2012

yes i used to have bright blue eyes they are now currently gray.

by Anonymousreply 8010/13/2012

r80, how far down stream do you read to bump a thread this old just to post that?

by Anonymousreply 8110/13/2012

My mother has brown eyes but they've changed to a yellow-brown in her older years. Of course that could be a by-product of the Faux News brainwashing she's undergone the past few years.

by Anonymousreply 8210/13/2012

My daughter had blue eyes as a baby but now they are brown. I know you are talking as an adult but I was surprised her baby blues turned to dark brown.

by Anonymousreply 8310/13/2012

r83 - Many babies are born with blue eyes that change colour as they develop. This is common knowledge. Hope you're not planning to home school.

by Anonymousreply 8410/13/2012

Do you think with genetic engineering that parents will one day be able to preselect eye color?

by Anonymousreply 8510/14/2012

My eyes went from Newman to Liz.

by Anonymousreply 8610/14/2012

by Anonymousreply 8710/14/2012

by Anonymousreply 8810/14/2012

by Anonymousreply 8911/02/2012

I have dead eyes.

by Anonymousreply 9011/02/2012

I have had blue eyes my whole life, but also always had yellow directly around the pupil. Is there any word for this?

by Anonymousreply 9111/02/2012

All iris tissue which reflect the color we identify as 'eye color' is the same color. What we see in blue, brown, green, violet etc colored eyes is the result of different densities of the same reflective tissue. The denser the iris tissure the more shift to brown. This is why people with lighter colored eyes are more light sensitive.

A little off topic, but I found this fascinating in med school. Yes, I was easily fascinated.

by Anonymousreply 9211/02/2012

What's the matter, Dr. Mengele, have you lost your research notes?

by Anonymousreply 9311/02/2012

My eyes have stayed a light blue for all of my life but know I'm wearing contacts and can see my eye but its self I relies tee that there's a outer layer of dark blue the insides a teal color with yellow lines though out they can if I cry they turn in to a flashy dark blue and it changes to the color u wear I choose colors that are complements my eyes making them pop!

by Anonymousreply 9612/21/2012

A lot of kids are born with blue eyes-"baby blues"-that change as they get older.

Mine are somewhere between gray, blue, green, and brown. Is that "hazel?" I never knew what color that was supposed to be.

I knew a guy who had distinctly different colored eyes, one brown and one blue.

by Anonymousreply 9712/21/2012

I have Betty Davis eyes.

by Anonymousreply 9801/09/2013

Ain't got no eyes.

by Anonymousreply 10102/09/2013

I worried op is dead.

by Anonymousreply 10202/09/2013

My pupils are blue and my iris are brown.

Is that normal?

by Anonymousreply 10303/13/2013

OP considered his sixties to be middle aged but those eye rings are indicative of later years.

by Anonymousreply 10403/14/2013

People get very scared when this happens, but when i am really mad like furious my eyes.... they turn red. is that bad?

by Anonymousreply 10503/19/2013

My eyes were originally Brown and whenI was about 12 years old they changed to green. I still have 2 dots of their original brown in each - but yes, eye color change also happenedto me.

by Anonymousreply 10607/21/2013

Yes, I notice the same with my eyes. I have light brown eyes with blue rings.

by Anonymousreply 10711/14/2013

My half Native American great grandmother eyes could change color especially if she was mad they would change color.Guess its a Native American thing.

by Anonymousreply 10811/14/2013

Eyes can def change color the men in my family do I found out when I was young. My eyes are dark brown color but when my adrenaline gets going when I am in extreme stress. I was shot and again in a fight my heart was going and my adrenaline was going each time my nose bled and my eyes turned a glacier ice blue it freaked out my family and friends I found out the men on my fathers side of the family our eyes change to a bright blue when we are in very high stress or anger. I have grey eyes that look blue when I wear blue and green when I wear green. And yes, bitches, they're stunning. Every guy who's ever so much as flirted with me has complimented them.

by Anonymousreply 11211/26/2013

I have two blue eyes, however when I get upset my right eye turns green. This has also been acknowledged by my eye specialist. It has taken them about 20 years to notice that my right eye actually changes colour from blue to green under certain conditions.

by Anonymousreply 11312/01/2013

My best friend from high school had blue eyes that darkened or lightened with his mood. When he was calm, they were light, but if he was extremely angry or excited, they became a very deep, inky blue.

My eye color has changed since I was little. As a toddler, I had green eyes. By my early teens, they were brown. Now they're mostly green, but a sort of golden brown towards the center.

by Anonymousreply 11412/01/2013

Blue circles around your iris is a sign of high cholesterol. See a cardiologist and get on a statin. Quick!!

by Anonymousreply 11512/01/2013

My eyes were always a Sharp Gray. Lately when I look in the mirror they've consistently been Black & Blue. What gives?

by Anonymousreply 11612/01/2013

I have blue circles around my brown eyes. When my eyes tear, they turn deep blue.

by Anonymousreply 11712/01/2013

I don't know if it's been mentioned, & I'm not reading everyone's eye color, I couldn't care less, but they can change brown eyes to blue now.

by Anonymousreply 11812/01/2013

LOL, R116

by Anonymousreply 11912/01/2013

Only people that knew my brother well know this is true. at 37 yrs old He had a massive stroke due to a head injury. He was in a coma for a week. the Dr. said, Go ahead and file for his disability cause he permanently paralyzed on his left side. He will not ever be well again I argued that goodness, he is so young and strong and with therapy , prayer and time he surly will slowly get better. When he awoke from the coma and brain swelling was down , his speech was difficult, but the biggest shock was his "cat green eyes" were very clearly blue. there are 10 kids in our family and 4 of them have those green eyes, except now. that happened in 1992 and they have stayed blue. we have finally gotten used to them.

by Anonymousreply 12004/04/2014

I'm friends with a couple whose son was born with blue eyes, but they turned hazel when he was about 4 years old.

by Anonymousreply 12104/04/2014

What is with these random people posting about their eye colours, when they clearly don't belong on this site?

I mean, there are little kids telling us about their eye colour! And the other idiots signing their names, and using txtspk and sofaking we-todd-ed speelng, wtf!

by Anonymousreply 12204/04/2014

Is it true all white babies have blue eyes?

by Anonymousreply 12304/04/2014

My niece had beautiful large bright blue eyes that looked just like her Great Grandmother Hazel's eyes. A trait we must have told her from a very young age. When discussing eye color she became very indignant when we told her that her eyes were blue. She said my eyes aren't blue, I have Hazel's eyes.

by Anonymousreply 12404/04/2014

Uncle Brian, you should have rared back and slapped some sense into your little niece!

That child is brain damaged apparently.

by Anonymousreply 12504/04/2014

[quote]Is it true all white babies have blue eyes?

At birth, yes, nearly all white babies have blue eyes, but usually only for the first few months.

Even babies of other races can be born with blue eyes, but it's much less common.

by Anonymousreply 12604/04/2014

I'm not sure mine have changed color during my lifetime but they do change color depending on the lighting: if the lighting comes from the side or from above they look greenish with quite a bit of yellow, but if the light source comes from the front, they are 95% green with just a tiny bit of yellow around the pupil. And when they are red from crying they're a striking green probably because of the contrast between the red and the green.

by Anonymousreply 12706/11/2014

my eyes were medium brown until I move to Florida 35 years ago. After I moved to Florida, they gradually turned green. A few years ago, the eye doctor told me I lost the pigment in my eye. I wonder if the sun here did it, as I once thought.

by Anonymousreply 12807/07/2014

My asian grandmother has green eyes, she used to have black eyes. It sometimes happens when you become old, I suppose.

by Anonymousreply 12907/07/2014

by Anonymousreply 13011/19/2014

Yah my eyes turn blue, green, grey, turquoise, and hazel

by Anonymousreply 13111/22/2014

My dark brown eyes have a dark blue ring around them also. I am 69, just started to notice this. I'm trying to find out what causes this also. I've never worn contacts?

by Anonymousreply 13201/30/2015

by Anonymousreply 13301/30/2015

As a teenager I had definitely blue/green eyes. Sort of an odd color, but they were the exact same color as my mom's eyes.

Now her eyes are light blue with no green whatsoever and I'm noticing that mine are far more blue than they used to be.

by Anonymousreply 13401/30/2015

I'm 58 and this year my dark brown eyes have the slate blue ring around them also. Sometimes they look almost all blue with a little brown in the center.

My eyes used to be dark blue. Then they changed to dark hazel. Now, they are REALLY LIGHT BLUE! I love them!

Or aggressive butch lesbians who hit on anything female and feel up non-consenting women all the time, like in Friends, Pitch Perfect etc, etc.

Sorry, wrong thread.

I hear people talk about their eyes "changing color" when they're mad, etc. Can anyone with medical expertise elaborate? It sounds like bullshit.

My eyes are hazel, I guess, golden brown at the top and green at the bottom. They were brown when I was a kid and have lightened up over the years. My Mom's eyes are exactly the same.
