Something Borrowed is Something ELSE!
I saw a special advanced screening (press pass. Yeah, I know, don't you wish you could be me?) of Something Borrowed and there are just no words. It really is something else. It was sexy, raunchy, exciting, funny, scary, thrilling, heart-breaking and all of the above.
Kate Hudson is simply delicious as the beautiful, klutzy career gal Darcy who just can't get a date. I can't even begin to describe how much she shines on screen. She has Goldie Hawn's piercing blue eyes and infectious laugh and Kurt Russell's amazing body. Her winning smile and gentile demeanor radiates off the screen confirming her pedigree as Hollywood royalty. It's just so unrealistic that no one wants to date her. Enter her childhood friend Dex who has now grown up to be a burning hunk of a man. Mesmerizing newcomer Colin Eggsleworth plays Dex all sauve and confident with a dash of spunk thrown in for good measure. Even though Colin is almost 40 he injects Dex with a youthful exhuberance never before seen on screen. Watch out Brad Pitt and George Clooney, with his taunt skin and dark simian looks I think there's now a new go-to Hollywood hunk.
Will her evil coworker Ginnefer Goodwin be able to steal Dex away from her? Not if Darcy's sassy gay best friend, John Krasi has anything to do about it. John's lanky body, sassy floppy hair and gorgeous potato nose had many a moviegoer's heart aflutter and people in the theater were even visibly turned on (I see you there, Manohla Dargis). Will Darcy triumph and finally be able to be win a man's heart? Will she and Dex wind up together at the end? My lips are sealed. You will have to watch to find out!
I know people haven't given romantic comedies a chance yet since they think they're too formulaic but this one is different. It could be a game changer. Something Borrowed is something wonderful.

"...the beautiful klutzy career gal Darcy who just can't get a date."
How many times has this movie been made?
Just another rom-com that will quickly fade into obscurity.
You said "this one is different". Sorry, but your review says otherwise... except for the part where you say that the leading man, who's name you misspelled, looks like an ape. Now that's different.

For starters, the comment about her "gentile" demeanor is odd, considering that her mother (and, thus, she) is Jewish. And her costar's "simian" looks? Who wants someone who looks like an ape?

Kurt Russell is not Kate HUDSON's father. Bill HUDSON is. So I'm not sure how she got Kurt's body.

Good job trying to make a shitty Kate Hudson movie sound good, OP.

Folks the review is meant as satire.

"Folks the review is meant as satire"
Thank you Captain Obvious.

Potato nose! lol
I don't think R1, R2 or R4 realized it was satire.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||05/07/2011|
I liked the potato nose comment too.

I admire Jennifer Hudson for never submitting to rhinoplasty. She proudly sports her mother's unblemished visage.

Is Krasinski really playing the gay best friend? From the commercials I figured he was in love with Goodwin himself.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||05/07/2011|
Kate Hudson's life is groundhog day. She's stuck in a horrible romcom.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||05/07/2011|
My guess is that OP's on the payroll.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||05/07/2011|
Krasinski is not gay in the movie.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||05/07/2011|
OP is made of awesomesauce.
For you. *mwah*
|by Anonymous||reply 16||05/07/2011|
And yeah, there's no way R1, R2, or R4 knew this was satire.

What! 40 and no walker! It's a miracle!

I thought it was entertaining, and Ginnifer Goodwin was excellent.

OP, this series of overly positive reviews has been hilarious.

Love it, though I don't want to think about how Manohla Dargis was "visibly turned on."
|by Anonymous||reply 21||05/08/2011|
I wish Kate Hudson would die already.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||05/08/2011|
serious question--isn't this the exact same movie as bride wars, with Kate Hudson playing the exact same character, except this time the homely brunette is the lawyer?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||05/08/2011|
What? No "the gays will love this movie?"%0D %0D Imposter!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 24||05/08/2011|
Came in 4th place.
Who the hell is paying Kate Hudson to make movies anymore?
|by Anonymous||reply 25||05/08/2011|
I doubt Kate will be making many more movies. She's washed up. As for it not being realistic that someone wouldn't want to date her? You have got to be kidding?! I can't look at a KH movie, a KH interview a KH picture w/o cringing. No one would want to date that ugly man obsessed creature. No sex appeal, no looks, and she reeks of desperation. With the way she chases men across the globe it's surprising she even had time to make a movie. Her poor kid. Women are sick.

[quote]Women are sick%0D %0D Because no men ever treat their children badly, chase after sex all over the globe, are ugly, have no sex appeal or reek of desperation.%0D %0D And no one on DL is ever man obsessed.%0D %0D

That review is so......GAY!

This sounds more like the Katheryn Heigl formula.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||05/08/2011|
Ashley Williams has a ams a nice small role as Claire.

Are they making the sequel?

Maybe she can't get a guy because the straight ones all prefer a girl with a woman's body?
|by Anonymous||reply 33||12/08/2012|
She has full hips and ass.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||12/08/2012|
She peaked in "Almost Famous" and has never been better than she managed in that performance.

That's wonderful to know.

I actually pity Kate. She's one of those women nobody truly wants when they figure out how desperate she is. She doesn't even want her. Life after 40 will be devastating for someone of this weak character.

I hated Kate Hudson's character. She's a loud, spoiled, obnoxious brat. I actually liked Ginnifer Goodwin's character & glad she stood up for herself at the end.
