I do watch realty TV (mostly competition shows), but I have never seen a single episode of any of the RH series. I don't like the shows that just follow the lives of random people.

Best: Atlanta & New York & Beverly Hills%0D %0D Worst: New Jersey, Orange County (YAWN!) and Miami%0D %0D So-so: DC%0D %0D Atlanta & New York are the only shows where I enjoy watching EVERY housewife. On Beverly Hills, a few of them are fun, and a few are boring.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||05/06/2011|
They are random except for the perception that they will make good TV. It's not enough of a hook for me. Same problem with the A-List, the MTV shows about that girl from Laguna Beach, Jersey Shore, etc.

Like you are asking "Which turd us best?"
|by Anonymous||reply 9||05/06/2011|
Oh--I forgot the worst of all: The Kardashian shows. It's disturbing that two separate reality TV series bled into each other like Eva Gabor showing up at petticoat Junction.

I like BH, OC, and NJ the best.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||05/06/2011|
NY started off interesting, but has become totally scripted and doesn't try to hide it.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||05/06/2011|
They all suck out loud
|by Anonymous||reply 13||05/06/2011|
All of them are awful and the women in the shows are horrible creatures.

[quote]NY started off interesting, but has become totally scripted and doesn't try to hide it.%0D %0D Totally agree. Too bad. It was fun to watch.%0D %0D BH seems the least scripted but most stage managed.%0D %0D Miami, DC and Jersey sans Danielle holds little interest for me.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||05/06/2011|
NY used to be at the top of my list, but it kind of blows this year without Bethenny. OC has been shit for some time - they just keep casting new versions of the same vapid big titted blond whore to the point where there's nothing to see anymore. I always thought NJ sucked because the ONLY story line appeared to be how the Manzos didn't like Danielle - it was stretched out to the point where the whole show just became a snore.
Atlanta is ok.
Beverly Hills was epic.
I thought DC was very underrated. It wasn't spectacular or anything, but I loved Cat's total lack of a filter, plus it was interesting to get an insider look at the Salahi train wreck.
I didn't even bother with Miami. I just couldn't at that point. There's such a thing as over-saturating the market. (Although part of me still thinks they should do Dallas!)
|by Anonymous||reply 16||05/06/2011|
New York is the only I get excited over, and I live in Texas.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||05/06/2011|
Beverly Hills, hands down is the best. These people are rich and personify ostentatiousness.%0D I want to see real mansions, not mini-mansions.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||05/06/2011|
I didn't watch much of DC, but Kat (and the gay guy) was the only thing that show had going for it. Maybe they'll find a way to bring her into another housewives show.%0D %0D I never liked Jersey. I didn't like the fact that most of the cast was related. And that hairy ape named Teresa is just gross.

Beverly Hills, high drama
Miami only for Alexia's HOT and barely legal son Peter
|by Anonymous||reply 22||05/06/2011|
I write this fully aware that I should be hugely ashamed that I watch these shows and can write this much about them, and I am. Hugely ashamed.
Beverly Hills: by far the freshest and really well cast. I think it's rare that a housewives series delivers such juicy, multi-layered drama in its first season.
Camille Grammar's was a fantastically slithery love-to-hate villainess who ended up being not wholly unsympathetic in the end, and her three sheets to the wind, electronic cigarette puffing attack dog Allison DuBois should have her own development deal with Bravo.
Some real shit hit the fan with the Richards sisters, and for once the "whose side are you on?" questions posed to the audience weren't quite the foregone conclusion they had been with previous casts -- and the discussions on here about who was in the right (exacting, frauish alpha dog Kyle or needy, "used to be in pict-shahs" screwup Kim) were heated and quite revealing.
As for the others, Taylor's marital woes weren't anything new when it comes to the housewives franchises (fortyish trophy wife sees the writing on the wall), but it was fun to watch her turn out to be the season's stealth bitch, and she proved to have quite a cunning brain inside her mannequin head. Lisa and Adrienne served up some good lifestyle porn, with Lisa clearly loving her "the funny, sexy one" edit and Adrienne serving as the cast's tinsel-haired voice of reason.
New York: As a New Yorker, this will always be my sentimental favorite, and pretty much the entire third season was as good as it gets in terms of a housewives series. The franchise gave us reality TV's biggest success story (It's clear now that everybody has been playing Bethenny Frankel's game all along-- including you, Andy Cohen), and reality TV's biggest face plant (In retrospect, you almost have to feel bad for Jill.)
I find each of the original women endearing in their own way: Ramona and her incredible talent for ruining things for other people; Luann and her ability to reconcile being punishingly snobby with the fact that she was born the daughter of a construction worker in the wrong part of Connecticut; Alex, who no matter what, never quite gets it right, no matter how hard she tries. Embattled woman-child Kelly and always-on-the-verge-of-self-parody Sonja have both been welcome additions. This season, however, is struggling to find its footing.
Now that perennial heroine Bethenny is off the show, it's not so clear who we should be rooting for, and several of the housewives are too clued into how these shows work and that's throwing a wrench in things: Kelly is clearly working her tail off to avoid coming across like a lunatic again, and Jill is similarly trying to prove just how nice she actually is.
Also, the editing seems reeeally apparent this season, they seem to be manufacturing story lines that either don't ring true or aren't particularly interesting: everybody knows Ramona is an appalling drunk. You're not going to get much mileage out of that, and Sonja's such a fruitcake that I find myself laughing at her ridiculous antics as opposed to being outraged by them.
Unfortunately, new girl Cindy adds nothing and her refusal to go native while hanging out with the other women just makes me resent her -- I was (appalling) totally with Sonja last night: who are you with your terrible bangs and your parties in Quogue with no Pinot Grigio? Get with the program.

Atlanta: I think Atlanta and New Jersey always get the best ratings. In Atlanta's case, I'm sort of surprised because it really feels like it has much lower stakes than the other franchises. I mean, the ladies are definitely willing to mix it up, but they always feel like they have made a mutual agreement to keep a lot of shit off camera. I have also grown tired of the show's anchors -- Nene and Kim, who are at core twinned egoists who are not nearly as cute as they think they are. I will say that Phaedra turned out to be a hoot last season, and the ladies are very generous when it comes to sharing the spotlight with their various gay hangers-on.
New Jersey: The other big ratings franchise. I don't know, one season of poor unhinged Danielle and her insanity was more than enough for me. Watching her caper around a group of women who steadfastly refused to have anything to do with her was both sad and tedious. I find all the self-conscious Italian-americana played out, and the show also has a really high assholes-with-no-redeeming-qualities quotient: Teresa and Joe, Jacqueline%E2%80%99s awful daughter, the ghoulish Kim G. Blech.
Orange County: The show has the highest assholes-with-no-redeeming-qualities quotient, and is so beyond being on its last legs. Is there a single nice thing that can be said about any of them? Schadenfreude is pretty much the only reason to watch Orange County -- a place populated by people who consider San Diego too edgy to live in. I will say that the show is interesting on a sociological level -- it pretty much is a first hand account of the total collapse of the %E2%80%9Cminimum monthly payment%E2%80%9D new money class in the sunbelt.
D.C. and Miami. Both suffered from casts that were way too impressed with themselves and their respective second-tier cities. Miami was completely unwatchable. I agree with the poster above brittle Cat being the best thing about D.C., she would have been a much better addition to New York. The Salahis were so impenetrable in their shared delusion that I quickly got bored with them.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||05/06/2011|
I really loved your masterful analysis of BH, R23, even though I think NJ and OC are also quite fascinating, if only for - as you say - their sociological qualities.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||05/06/2011|
Also, in my depravity, I think they should have a Real Housewives all-stars season. Putting them on a boat worked like gangbusters for the New York wives. Or I'd also be interested in seeing an "Amazing Race" type show wherein various in-cast enemies (Kyle and Camille, Luann and Ramona, Nene and Kim, Tamra and Gretchen, Danielle and any of them) are forced to buddy up and race around the world.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||05/07/2011|
Atlanta is my favorite least favorite New York.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||05/07/2011|
The only one I can slightly relate to is Beverly Hills. Perhaps because I'm a native Angelino. Camille is my favorite. I've tried the others, but they suck.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||05/07/2011|
I like New York. I'm enjoying this season a lot more than I have in the past. Do not like Cindy though. Didn't like Bethenny either. In all of New York they couldn't find better than those?%0D %0D I watched Beverly Hills and thought it was ok. Lisa is a fake bitch who most definately got it on with that house guest from hell. How dumb is that husband of hers? Kyle is a bitch too but she met her match in Camille. %0D %0D I love watching hetrosexual women. I hope they never resort to adding lesbians. When that happens I'm done.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||05/07/2011|
Favorite: New York. Love the drama, love the setting, love the crazy Alex and Simon and the rest of the cast.%0D %0D %0D Least Favorite: Orange Country.. most boring shit EVER! too little drama and that Christian pathetic housewife looking for love just sickens me.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||05/07/2011|
Atlanta is fabulous. I'm white, but even I find it ridiculous how "white" these shows are, except Atlanta. I think Phaedra was a fantastic addition to RH/ATL. She gave us more hilarious one-liners this year than anyone since Will Rogers. And Cynthia was a great addition, too. That wedding dress was gorgeous. Kandi is sweet and I think it's good to have ONE cast member who is dependably good.%0D %0D New York is fun, though less fun than it used to be. Kelly & Cindy have dragged the show down. The NY women all treat gays like they treat their servants, or their pets, not like humans. The Atlanta housewives have a far less condescending attitude towards gays, and Kandi even helped Lawrence with his career.%0D %0D Orange County is the most boring thing I've ever seen. In fact, even if you offered to pay me $500 to watch an hour of it, I would turn down the money. THAT's how boring Orange County is.%0D %0D New Jersey is also boring, but I probably WOULD watch it for an hour if you paid me $500.%0D %0D DC was good at times, but there were too many Republicans on the show. Which is amazing, since there are about 7,000,000 people in Metro DC and there are only about 13 Republicans there, even when a Republican is in the White House. Yet most of the Real Housewives of DC were Republicans. How did THAT happen?
|by Anonymous||reply 31||05/07/2011|
They are rich.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||05/07/2011|
Love and hate New York, haven't paid attention to the other ones.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||05/07/2011|
I really only watch ATL and Bev Hills. Just started watching NY and am becoming addicted.
I tried to watch OC but couldn't stomach it. Same with Miami. Could not watch DC because a) I refuse to give the Salahis any attention and b) I live just outside of it.
I refuse to watch NJ because of that fat bitch with the short red hair's accent and that Theresa girl's face gives me nightmares!
Fave Housewife: Miss Phaedra! That woman should be a stand-up comic, not an attorney.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||05/07/2011|
I think an all-lesbian housewives show would be fantastic! I know some great lesbian couples in LA that would be perfect!
|by Anonymous||reply 35||05/07/2011|
I agree, great post R23/24. We share similar opinions.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||05/07/2011|
Worst: Tie, Atlanta and Miami.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||05/07/2011|
Now Beverly Hills by a MILE
New Jersey second
NY now a distant third.
The worst is ATLANTA. God that version is the pits. I did end up liking Phaedra.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||05/07/2011|
The glory days of the RH franchise are behind them.
NeNe, the star of Atlanta, has left the show.
Danielle, the psychotic villain of NJ, was fired from the show.
Bethenny left the NY cast.
DC was officially cancelled last month.
Miami will be cancelled, too.
All of the OC women are either bankrupt or foreclosed upon.
BH is the only viable show anymore.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||05/07/2011|
I think America would be FASCINATED by an all-lesbian Real Housewives. Fred Phelps would be protesting it... Everyone would be talking about it... It would be fabulous!%0D %0D
|by Anonymous||reply 40||05/08/2011|
Lesbians aren't interesting.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||05/08/2011|
I just hope we never see that awful "A List" show again. We must have lost a good 20 years of building goodwill with straights because of that show.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||05/08/2011|
Atlanta reinvented itself with Phaedra. She is a mess and a half.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||05/08/2011|
You said it R41! The thought of dykes having a show makes me want to vomit. As I said before, I Like watching the women of New York. Glad fake scripted Bethenny is gone! Not liking Cindy though. What were they thinking? That ugly bitch looks like she could be a lesbian. No no no! Sorry just no. They need to dump that one quick.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||05/08/2011|
R42, only NYC queers watched that show. No harm, no foul.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||05/08/2011|
A-List just cast the Dallas version. The NY show will air later this year. No word on when the Dallas show will start.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||05/08/2011|
'The NY women all treat gays like they treat their servants, or their pets, not like humans. The Atlanta housewives have a far less condescending attitude towards gays'%0D %0D I agree, R31. And those are the two shows of the franchise where the gays have the strongest presence. %0D %0D I haven't enjoyed Atlanta since the first season but I came back this year to watch Phaedra. I enjoyed NY in the past, but it's pretty bad this year.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||05/10/2011|
I would rank the shows as following:
#1 Atlanta YES but I do miss Sheree and the drama she brings and I think Marlo should have been a cast member as she would give Kenya a run for her money
#2 Miami recasting the show helped but overall there are some expendable ladies, unlike in Atlanta. I would have kept the controversial Cristy Rice and instead axed Marysol and her mother. Adding Karent and Joanna helped fuel the drama, but Lisa is harmless and Ana is just boring.
#3 New York it's slipping for me without Bethenny and Jill. I didn't enjoy watching them fight with each other but I enjoyed watching them fight with everyone else. Aviva is a good addition with her crazines, but Heather and Carole are boring and Luann was dull this season too
#4 New Jersey they need to recast the show...I don't enjoy seeing families fighting and I'm sick of the same storyline. Teresa has now officially fought with everyone who was ever on the show except for Dina and Kim D, so as long as the producers can find some new strong personalities, the show will pick up again. Kathy needs to go cuz she's too nice.
#5 Beverly Hills I don't see why it's so popular...I think it's rather boring except for Brandi. The first season in particular I just couldn't watch it. A bunch of phonies who have more money than brains doesn't make for great tv. I don't think new addition Yolanda will add anything either...Lisa vs. Adrienne might be interesting but I can't stand the Richards' sisters.
#6 Orange County the cast pretty much sucks. Vicki is tv gold and Tamra is a hot mess but Gretchen has really toned down her act, Alexis is just too stupid and Heather is pretentious and boring. They need to add 2 new complete bitches, or else just cancel this franchise.
#7 DC Cat is great for reality tv, even though I can't stand her. Bravo should put her on NY to fight with Luann lol. People complained the Salahis took over the show with their antics, well that's because except for Cat, the other 3 women had 0 personality. Bravo really missed the mark with this by picking mostly bland women. They needed to have a bigger cast.

#3 - Beverly Hills
You can keep the rest.

Best: New jersey and New York ARE AMAZING
|by Anonymous||reply 51||05/24/2015|
Beverly Hills by far. Atlanta is the worst. And this season was a dud. I don't care what the ratings say. I wish Kenya and Phaedra could move to New Jersey or Beverly Hills! Love those two.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||05/24/2015|
Atlanta is BY FAR the best. No question. The women are all crazy and can give the drama but unlike the other housewives shows (full of trust fund babies and trophy wives) these women are constantly hustling and trying to make money and 'struggling' in an interesting way. And each have a dark backstory (deadbeat dads, husbands in prison or on the down low, money problems, Kenya's mental illness, Phaedra's weird funeral fetish etc). Its like a Southern Gothic soap opera for the WorldStarHipHop generation.
Beverly Hills was amazing in season 1-2 with crazy Camille, drug addled Kim and Taylor driving her husband to suicide. Every other season since Russell killed himself have felt really generic.
Parts of Miami are interesting from a visual standpoint (everything is so hideously vulgar and the women look like burn victims).
The rest of the franchises are pretty worthless imo (especially OC).
|by Anonymous||reply 53||05/24/2015|
Melbourne is by far the best.
|by Anonymous||reply 54||05/24/2015|
I like Melbourne too. Not sure it's the best, but it's definitely the most fun of any of the RH franchises. Gina and Janet manage to be both evil and comedic at the same time.
I dislike Atlanta these last couple of seasons. Nene, Phaedra and Kenya are despicable and awful people with no redeemable qualities. Same with Brandi and Kim on BH.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||05/24/2015|
Atlanta, of course. All the other shows are inferior.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||05/24/2015|
I'm enjoying Melbourne.
