Newborn Bourne star Jeremy Renner is looking to diversify. After lining up several action franchises over the last year %E2%80%94 in addition to supplanting Matt Damon as the lead in the Bourne movies, he's also committed to future installments of Mission: Impossible and Marvel movies that will feature his Hawkeye character %E2%80%94 the actor has started a production company and is developing a biopic of one of the coolest action heroes ever: Steve McQueen. The Hollywood Reporter says James Gray %E2%80%94 who last directed Two Lovers %E2%80%94 will write the screenplay. We can definitely see Renner as McQueen, but who should play his Ali MacGraw?
Jeremy Renner Wants To Play Steve McQueen

Umm..wouldnt JR have to be better looking or even good looking at all to play SM? The ego on some of these actors once they grab a minute of fame. Sheesh.

[quote]Umm..wouldnt JR have to be better looking or even good looking at all to play SM? %0D %0D [quote]Too ugly.%0D %0D Unfortunately, I have to agree, even though I love Renner and his work. He's not a pretty boy like McQueen was.
|by Mia||reply 3||04/28/2011|
Poor little Princess Geranium thinks she's a beauty now she's famous.
|by Mia||reply 4||04/29/2011|
[quote]He's not a pretty boy like McQueen was.%0D %0D I thought Steve McQueen was 'rugged' rather than pretty.
|by Mia||reply 5||04/29/2011|
Isn't it amusing how these actors in small films think they can become huge stars?
He's not rugged, nor handsome.
And he's a short pint to boot.
|by Mia||reply 6||04/29/2011|
No no no.
|by Mia||reply 7||04/29/2011|
[quote]I thought Steve McQueen was 'rugged' rather than pretty.%0D %0D Welll, McQueen is a pretty boy compared to Renner. Renner's got big, thick, unattractive features.
|by Mia||reply 8||04/29/2011|
Craig would make a good McQueen. Renner, not so much.
|by Mia||reply 10||04/29/2011|
Forgot to add, Jennifer Connelly for Ali.
|by Mia||reply 11||04/29/2011|
Why this? He is Jason Bourne, Mission impossible, and now this?
I think he should be in musicals.
|by Mia||reply 12||04/29/2011|
[quote]Jennifer Connelly for Ali.
Or Jordana Brewster.
|by Mia||reply 13||04/29/2011|
emperor. clothes. new.
|by Mia||reply 14||04/29/2011|
What did McQueen do that made his life so interesting? A bunch of largely forgettable movies, racing cars, marriage to a terrible actress and early death. Zzzzzzzz.
|by Mia||reply 15||04/29/2011|
McQueen was an angry, pushy, dull head case.
And Hollywood loved him.
Renner is such a sis.
|by Mia||reply 16||04/29/2011|
Actually wouldn't be surprised that Jeremy Renner Wants To Play WITH Steve McQueen.
|by Mia||reply 17||04/29/2011|
He's got butter-face and no amount of critical accolades is gonna change that. Wonder if he's got a plastic's guy on hold? Or maybe they can CGI him? Or maybe he does his own makeup and can contour himself into McQueen?
|by Mia||reply 18||04/29/2011|
That would be 'plastics'. Didnt want to get a 'mary' from the grammer troll.
|by Mia||reply 19||04/29/2011|
I agree with this link - If Renner wants to play a real-life person he should be playing Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The resemblance is uncanny.
|by Mia||reply 20||04/29/2011|
Appropos of nothing, I wonder what ever happened to Barbara Minty, who was McQueen's widow. She'd been a model and was prettier than Ali.
|by Mia||reply 21||04/29/2011|
I wish he'd play "the Queen" and come Right Out!
|by Mia||reply 22||04/29/2011|
OP got it all wrong. He wants to play BUTTERFLY McQueen.
|by Mia||reply 23||04/29/2011|
It's too bad he's "just a TV actor," but the lovely Eric Close is nearly a dead ringer for McQueen. My brother swears Close is McQueen's illegitimate son.
Good actor, too.
|by Mia||reply 24||04/29/2011|
Not really seeing the Close resemblance at all.
|by Mia||reply 25||04/29/2011|
I thought Steve McQueen was a little better looking but I think Renner could do a good job. He seems to be a great actor...hope he won't sound like a southie.
|by Mia||reply 26||04/29/2011|
Eric Close looks nothing like McQueen. You need glasses.
|by Mia||reply 27||04/29/2011|
Anything to get that third Oscar nomination.
|by Mia||reply 28||04/30/2011|
Maybe he meant Alexander McQueen.
|by Mia||reply 29||04/30/2011|
Eric Close looks more like Stephen Daly.
|by Mia||reply 30||04/30/2011|
Renner looks like a cross between Jason Bateman and Simon Le Bon.
|by Mia||reply 31||04/30/2011|
I think he could pull it off if they make him look like this. Renner:
|by Mia||reply 32||04/30/2011|
|by Mia||reply 33||04/30/2011|
Maybe they can CGI some hotness into him.
|by Mia||reply 34||04/30/2011|
he's hotter than FUCK
|by Mia||reply 35||04/30/2011|
DANIEL CRAIG must play him! He already has a great sense of style (like McQueen)! He already has the exact face & eyes (like McQueen)! He is simply an amazing actor, and since doing the Bond movies, Girls love him, and guys want to be him (like McQueen)! Renner should direct/produce the movie and cast Craig!
|by Mia||reply 36||05/03/2011|
Renner does resemble Fassbinder a lot! However, no biopic is being planned for this filmmaker. Renner is the same height as Steve McQueen so he'd be perfect as Steve. But he'll have to deal with kissing women because S McQueen was a ladies' man. Other than that, he'd be a natural.
|by Mia||reply 37||10/07/2012|
Think of an actor that is sex on a stick to women and men, boyish good looks, the camera loves and acting ability in spades and you have the guy to play Steve McQueen. Renner is not that guy.
|by Mia||reply 38||10/07/2012|
Steve McQueen/Steve's a Queen...potatoes, po-tah-toes...
|by Mia||reply 39||10/07/2012|
Renner is quickly morphing into La Spacey. Pretty soon he's going to want to play the lead in "The Justin Bieber Story."
|by Mia||reply 40||10/07/2012|
Unfortunately, Daniel Craig can't do American accent. He tried in Dream House but somewhere in the middle, couldn't go on and they let him slip back into his native Brit accent.
|by Mia||reply 41||10/07/2012|
He'd be perfect to play a queen, but not Steve McQueen. How about Anderson Cooper, Paul Lynde, or Ryan Murphy?
|by Mia||reply 42||10/07/2012|
You people are talking about him like he's the elephant man. He's not bad looking at all.
|by Mia||reply 43||10/07/2012|
Why would there be a need to film the life of an actor who was okay at his job and okay at driving a race car but never did anything outstanding or memorable?
Ask the next five people you see to name a Steve McQueen film.
|by Mia||reply 44||10/07/2012|
Clearly he's born to play Ellen DeGeneres.
|by Mia||reply 45||10/07/2012|
Jeremy Renner is too ugly to play Steve McQueen.
|by Mia||reply 46||10/07/2012|
|by Mia||reply 47||10/07/2012|
A man who looks like a middle-aged lesbian wants to play Steve McQueen? The King of Cool must be spinning in his grave.
|by Mia||reply 48||10/07/2012|
On tv Wanted Dead or Alive
Love With the Proper Stranger
The Magnificent Seven
Thomas Crown Affair
to name a few.
|by Mia||reply 49||10/07/2012|
Love With the Proper Stranger is one of my all time FAVORITE guilty pleasure. Bocci!
|by Mia||reply 50||10/07/2012|
This is almost as bad as Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone.
|by Mia||reply 51||10/07/2012|
Daniel Craig did a passable American accent in that gangster movie with Tom Hanks. He'd be a great Steve McQueen, with Angie Harmon as Ali McGraw.
|by Mia||reply 52||10/07/2012|
I don't know about the Steve Mc, but he's def got the "Queen" part down...
|by Mia||reply 53||10/07/2012|
Damien Lewis should play Steve McQueen.
|by Mia||reply 54||10/07/2012|
Daniel Craig does look a bit like Steve McQueen, but really, he looks more like McQueens bigger, butcher, sexier, more muscular brother.
McQueen was a small, thin, ugly man, and I just don't his appeal.
|by Mia||reply 55||10/07/2012|
[quote]Jeremy Renner Wants To Play Steve McQueen
Well, he's a third of the way there already, syllabically speaking.
|by Mia||reply 56||10/08/2012|
He is more the Ali McGraw type.
|by Mia||reply 57||10/08/2012|
Damian Lewis is actually a better choice ...
Has Renner ever played a leading role opposite a female star ? I don't think so, he doesnt seem to relate to women that way, he is just an action hero macho man.
|by Mia||reply 58||10/08/2012|
McQueen may have been brave facing up to his illness and decline but as an actor he was rather one note - I liked him in Love with the Proper Stranger and of course Thomas Crown, but felt no need to see most of his movies like The Sand Pebbles or Papillion. He just was not that interesting. Are the rumours true that he was rent originally ?
|by Mia||reply 59||10/08/2012|
People in Hell want ice water.
|by Mia||reply 60||10/08/2012|
The only "Mick" queen he'll get to play is Elizabeth II or Victoria.
|by Mia||reply 61||10/08/2012|
That's 'grammar' R18.
|by Mia||reply 62||10/09/2012|
r59, I've been here a while and always heard that in the good, old gossip threads late proven true.
AFAIR, no one ever contested it whenever it was mentioned.
r38 is absolutely right.
The real question is why would this even get to a planted story level? I can't believe his people wouldn't have discouraged him from publicly embarrassing himself angling for a part for which he's clearly unsuitable.
|by Mia||reply 63||10/09/2012|
Butterfly McQueen would make a wonderful role for Viola, no?
|by Mia||reply 64||10/09/2012|
This should be a riveting biopic. I hope this won't take attention away from the biopic on Pat Sajac.
|by Mia||reply 65||10/10/2012|
Craig is even uglier than Renner.
|by Mia||reply 66||10/10/2012|
In other news, Rosanne Barr wants to play Pamela Anderson.
|by Mia||reply 67||10/10/2012|
