The World Trade Center is an insatiable bottom?

Did someone really post that during 9/11? How was it received?

by Anonymousreply 2709/15/2013

It was posted early in the thread, before anyone really knew what was going on. So, it was funny and no one thought it was in bad taste.

It's now in bad taste, but still funny as hell.

by Anonymousreply 104/15/2011

I would like to interview the DLer who posted that. Did he grasp the magnitude of the disaster at the time? Did it go from being funny to not-so-funny and now is it back to funny? Etc.

by Anonymousreply 204/16/2011

I remember it was an 'r1', in all senses of the word

by Anonymousreply 304/16/2011

I think that meme is hilarious. Whenever I think of it, I get this big grin on my face.

by Anonymousreply 404/16/2011

It needed to be said and r1 was just the poster to say it.

by Anonymousreply 504/16/2011

It's not a meme, dumbass. Stop using terms that you don't understand.

by Anonymousreply 604/16/2011

You are a moronic cunt, R6.

"A meme ( /%CB%88mi%CB%90m/[1]) is a unit of social information. The concept comes from an analogy: as genes transmit biological information, memes can be said to transmit idea and belief information."

The meme of the World Trade Center as an 'insatiable bottom' certainly does transmit the beliefs of the people who share it, namely that the hysteria and the supposed sanctity of the event was poorly supported.

by Anonymousreply 704/16/2011

Also, R6 is an insatiable World Trade Center.

by Anonymousreply 804/16/2011

Seriously though...r1 posted it and it would have been posted before anyone really knew what was going on. The OP basically just said there was a report that a plane hit one of the WTC buildings. %0D %0D Those were the days when someone posted "so-and-so is an insatiable bottom" in every thread. Kind of like "Sent from my iPhone" today.

by Anonymousreply 904/16/2011

It was R2. %0D %0D The first posts of that tread:%0D %0D World Trade Center%0D by: anonymous 292 09/11/2001 @ 09:09AM This isn't gossip, but since this is a major gathering place, I wanted to tell everyone that 2 airplanes have crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. It's on TV right now. %0D RE: World Trade Center%0D by: anonymous 09/11/2001 @ 09:12AM what the fuck ?! %0D I can't get into CNN or MSNBC. Please post more when you hear. %0D RE: World Trade Center%0D by: anonymous 09/11/2001 @ 09:12AM I hear the World Trade Center is an insatiable bottom. %0D RE: World Trade Center%0D by: anonymous 09/11/2001 @ 09:14AM It's shocking!!! The first plane was a mid-size plane and the second one appears to be a 727. They say at least one tower is leaning. %0D The communication transmitters for local NYC TV are on top of the World Trade center so viewers there aren't getting the info on local news. %0D RE: World Trade Center%0D by: anonymous 09/11/2001 @ 09:18AM i just heard about it! god, that is awful %0D RE: World Trade Center%0D by: Torta 09/11/2001 @ 09:24AM NBC is now reporting that it was a double hijack-suicide terrorist attack. %0D God... this is terrifying. %0D %0D %0D

Thanks, r10. Those were the days before our society was truly saturated with the 24/7 news cycle. I really miss the way things felt in early 2001. I feel like we, as a culture, didn't get to grow in a normal way. It's like the nation was raped and we've been suffering from PTSD and it's interfered with our ability to function normally.

The Datalounge helped a lot of people that day. I know I used it as an outlet because I couldn't get in touch with my friends in NY. It was both a source of information and humor.

by Anonymousreply 1104/16/2011

Well. Now the meme is apparently being applied to Ohio governor John Kasich.

by Anonymousreply 1205/15/2011

R12, that site deserves its own thread!

by Anonymousreply 1305/16/2011

I sure wish they hadn't deleted the original thread!

by Anonymousreply 1509/15/2013

Why do people keep bringing this up? It was never the least bit funny.

by Anonymousreply 1609/15/2013

I agree r16, not offensive, but not funny either

by Anonymousreply 1709/15/2013

It spoke to an earlier DL where gossip reigned supreme. Any subject was steered toward who was an insatiable bottom, including this.

Simpler, happier times, which I never thought I would be saying about 9/11.

by Anonymousreply 1809/15/2013

It's really weird how Datalounge is filled with people obsessed with 9/11 like the OP. Every year they post the same thread topics -- 9/11 insatiable bottom, 9/11 sky so blue, 9/11 never forget, 9/11 grief porn, 9/11 jokes, we deserved 9/11, 9/11 traditions.

What's wrong with them? Some of them think they are witty, but they are just repetitive. Sounds like OCD.

by Anonymousreply 1909/15/2013

I think this particular reference is not just about 9/11, but about what Datalounge was like at the time. This place still shows some wit and intelligence, but moves at the barest fraction of the early 2000's speed. That thread was really moving - to see the snark disappear and mutate as people realized something very real was happening. Datalounge was real refuge from the Homeland, saber-rattling rhetoric of the Bush administration.

by Anonymousreply 2009/15/2013

You're welcome.

by Anonymousreply 2109/15/2013

R21, how did you get that??!! And the links to other threads at the bottom of the page all work!

by Anonymousreply 2209/15/2013

Another funny one on that thread.

[quote]CNN's Jon King is reporting that the President has indeed gone to a wartime command facility. Yikes!

[quote]By the way, Jon is getting fat.

by Anonymousreply 2309/15/2013

You're not funny, OP.

by Anonymousreply 2409/15/2013

It took much longer before Seinfeld get away with the JFK assassination episode. While not offended, I didn't find it the least bit funny.

by Anonymousreply 2509/15/2013

People really do post some pathetic shit out there. I'd like to have that poster come face to face with people who lost loved ones in the attack.

It's not funny except to people are straight up miserable cunts. When you're unhappy with your own life, you'll find something like this funny. The rest of us don't.

by Anonymousreply 2609/15/2013

Chill out, R26. I'd like the people who lost loved ones in the attack to come face to face with the 72 Iraqis who died for each of the 9/11 deaths. Even though not a single Iraqi was on the planes.

Humor is how we deal with the incomprehensible. That day was a moment none of us were prepared to face, and bitchiness and camp were as valid a way to deal as any other - and didn't result in invasions or scapegoating. Sorry that you can't understand that.
