Miami: South Beach

What does DL think of South Beach? What neighborhoods are the most ideal? How is the gay scene?

TIA

I was there in the mid-90's when I was still young and beautiful and I hated it. It was all about wannabe models. I found it very vapid and shallow.

Ovah.

South Beach has been over for about 10 years now. It's just a shit hole of decaying Deco buildings and high rises populated by Euro and South American trash. I lived there from 1988 to 1998 and got the fuck out. I made a shit load in real estate and left for somewhere that english was the language spoken.

Best vacation cock you'll ever get.

by Anonymousreply 402/23/2011

Nobody cool lives there.

by Anonymousreply 502/23/2011

Nobody interesting in Miami goes there any more.

by Anonymousreply 602/23/2011

More, R4. Describe please.

by Anonymousreply 702/23/2011

R6 is based on the wholly mistaken notion that there is anyone interesting in Miami.%0D

It's like Branson, MO for trashy douchebags.

So is Miami really "ovah" in terms of popularity? I was thinking about possibly visiting (never been there) but if it sucks, then I won't bother.

Is it a shithole now or something?

by Anonymousreply 1003/15/2013

For a brief moment in the early, mid 90's it was a pretty cool place.

Then Puff Daddy (or whatever the fuck his name is) and the bling/rapper wannabe/Courvoisier crowd took over and that was all she wrote.

by Anonymousreply 1103/15/2013

So is it just South Beach or all of Miami that's trash now? Is it worth visiting?

Miami is still fabulous, it's very South American...in many good ways....yet, there is still the USA with the European connection too. The arts, the food, the scene, all great, the Miami music scene is happening, the gay life is decentralized...go up to Lauderdale if you want a 80's (good) feel, with birds of a feather flocking together.

Negatives...the driving can be insanity (hint, NYC is orderly) road signs, direction, not so good.

How does Fort Lauderdale compare? Just got back from a short vacation in Miami and what I like is how walkable it is and the plentiful places to eat or buy food. Something tells me you'd need to rent a car in FLL.

What R1 and R11 said. I visited in 1997 and it was very gay, had lots of gay clubs (including Salvation). Then returned in 2006 and it was COMPLETELY different. Kind of like Vegas without the casinos. I'll never go back.

The three guys who lived in the DC townhouse where young attorney Robert Wone was stabbed to death, moved to Miami.

by Anonymousreply 1603/22/2013

Miami is more current and happening, more diverse culturally, r14, whereas Ft. Lauderdale is more centralized gay and laid-back with a lot less nationals.

Yeah, a car, definitely. If you are over at 'the beach' in Miami, no car needed, anywhere else...Miami, FLL yes, it's car country.
