Wonder Woman? Who else?
Which Superheroes are Immortal?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | April 22, 2018 7:23 AM |
I'm pretty sure Wonder Woman has been dead at least once.

Isn't Thor?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 13, 2011 5:30 PM |
Marvel's Asgardians (including Thor) aren't immortal, just very long-lived. Marvel's Olympians, including Hercules, are supposedly immortal, though I pick up that several of them are currently dead, so I'm not sure how that works. And I'm vaguely ashamed I know this, though it is many years since I bought a comic book!

Iceman--technically an "immortal" since he's an omega mutant and, after 50 years, we have yet to see the full extent of his powers.
Mr. Sinister--a mutate who tampered with his DNA and is already about 200 years old
Apocalypse--ancient Egyptian mutant--incalculable power--can't be killed
Shadow King--a force of psychic evil, can't die
Phoenix/Jean Grey/Marvel Girl (Rachel)--pure energy when possessed by the force--could outlast the universe
Galactus/ Silver Surfer/Super Skrull--fueled by cosmic energies--can't die
Snowbird--demigoddess
I'll leave out the various pantheons of gods since some , like the Asgardians, are always in a death-rebirth cycle and *can* be killed.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 13, 2011 9:13 PM |
Technically Kirby's Eternals and New Gods are immortal. They seemed to be souped-up humans who have defied the aging process

[quote]Phoenix/Jean Grey/Marvel Girl (Rachel)--pure energy when possessed by the force--could outlast the universe%0D %0D More appropriately, the Phoenix Force is immortal, but the host can be killed.%0D %0D I guess if we're getting down the brass tacks, Death from my beloved Sandman is immortal. She even has a line at some point (although I don't remember if this was in the series proper or one of her miniseries) that when the last being in existance dies, she'll be the one to "put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe" behind her.%0D %0D Sent from my Batcave.

If any Marvel fans can remember the Avengers from 1981, there was a minor mutant/sorceress named Elfqueen that made a memorable appearance. Her husband was killed but allegedly she is an immortal.

Is The Phantom Stranger (DC) considered immortal? There have been hints that he can't be killed and at one point, when the Spectre threatened to kill him, The Stranger remarked along the lines of "That is not in your power to do so".

The Hulk. Supposedly immortal.... though Banner might not be.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 14, 2011 6:15 AM |
The Doctor can regenerate a total of 13 times, but then that's it, he's dead.
Jack is immortal, but we know he eventually turns into The Face of Boe and dies.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 14, 2011 6:17 AM |
I wouldn't consider The Doctor or Jack Harkness to be superheroes though.

The Face of Boe died, but Jack dies over and over and over comes back. Nothing says the Face didn't gasp himself awake ten minutes after the Doctor left.

[quote]Which Supermarkets are immortal?
Albertson's. Not even Patricia "Sparkle, Patty, Sparkle!" Heaton could kill them.
[quote]But isn't Wonder Woman a goddess?
With what's been done to her recently, who the fuck knows, but no, she is not a goddess. The DC Comics Amazons are meta-humans.
The current Wonder Girl is a demigod, her father being Zeus and her mother being an archaeology professor.
As far as Donna Troy goes, it's probably best not to think about that too long.

the Stranger is one of the most under-used characters in DC which is a shame because he is so interesting. Supposedly having unlimited power and knowledge when it comes to the supernatural, he's often unremembered while some other mystic characters remain in the forefront.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 15, 2011 2:15 PM |
What about Ghost Rider, as long as he is possessed?
And I don't consider them Superheroes, but the Watchers are immortal.

The ladies on Paradise Island are immortal. When Diana left the island she gave up immortality.

R14, VOTN, the Hulk, really? I didn't know that. Can't be killed? Won't die?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 9, 2011 5:45 PM |
The Amazons are immortal only as long as they are on Paradise Island (AKA Themyscira) but once they travel to the outside world, they age normally. Wonder Woman is no exception.%0D %0D On the Wonder Woman TV show with Lynda Carter, the Amazons were immortal and eternally young no matter what. That's why Wonder Woman looked exactly the same in the 1970s as she did in the 1940s.

What about deadpool?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 5, 2014 7:04 PM |
The "Doctor Who" writers officially dropped the limit on regenerations, if I'm not mistaken. So potentially The Doctor could live forever, if someone doesn't kill him. He can be killed, even if doing so is difficult, so technically he's not immortal.
Probably the same for Wolverine. He's technically mortal, even if he's almost impossible to kill and doesn't age the way normal humans do.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 5, 2014 10:27 PM |
Dead pool is immortal because thanos cursed him so he would never die and yes he does have the regeneration power but he was still able to die like wolverine but then thanos gave him a curse
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 18, 2015 8:58 PM |
Ice-man is not an immortal. Wonder Woman is now a God in the current incarnation. She's actually the God of War. She is immortal and the best thing going for DC right now.
Rachel Grey is an Omega level mutant but she is not immortal. They just "killed" off Namor who I assumed was immortal but guess not.
Being Omega Level does not automatically make you immortal.

W&W for R60.
The sentient alien symbiote Venom (although not a 'hero' and not a human/oid so perhaps an OT example) is more or less indestructible. No-one has ever come close to destroying it, and the closest it ever came to demise was by its own hand in SPIDERMAN: REIGN (06-07, Andrews), when it was dying of loneliness and so duplicated itself to relieve the pain of sentience.
The fact that Venom is an organism is something of a weakness, but so far it has not proved fatal. Venom can feel pain (from sonic or thermal barrage especially) and become exhausted, but in the case of vulnerability to these things will simply detach from it's host, find a safe zone away from danger and live independently (which technically means it isn't a Symbiote, but whatever Marvel) until it encounters a new suitable host. No matter the host Venom chooses, the organism retains super-strength, shapeshifting abilities (it can mimic human form), telepathic abilities, and the ability to become completely invisible. Furthermore Venom can reproduce via mitosis and grow its host to several times it's own size. In short, it's fucking terrifying.
To put Venom's power some context, in the Marvel Universe, S.H.I.E.L.D consider the symbiote one of the top 3 Most Wanted, with only Dr. Doom (wtf) and megalomaniacs Red Skull & Magneto posing an equal threat. It has been suggested by some that Bruce Banner could devise a way to at least contain it, since in SECRET WARS (84-85, Shooter), Banner was the scientist behind many of the machines in the Avengers base where Peter first freed the symbiote (using a different machine than he was instructed to and accidentally releasing the alien, like an idiot).
In Raimi's SPIDER-MAN film trilogy (02-07), Peter can only scare off the symbiote by exposing it to the unbearable sonic overload of church bells, and following this it quickly escapes unharmed directly to a new host, disgraced photojournalist Eddie Brock. Raimi's films exemplified the design for the symbiote, but the scene where Venom transfers from Peter to Eddie is camp-erotica. It was just too much to have all the screaming and nakedness and sticky fluid...in a church, no less. It's about two steps away from a gay-porn parody of a Meat Loaf video. The transfer is staged and shot with a campiness that ruins any villainous credibility. Having two cute twinky guys playing our hero & nemesis didn't much help the matter (but thanks from the DL for that, Sam).
