You Need a Credit Card to Post on the IMDB (International Movie Data Base) Website?? WTF??

That or be linked to your Amazon.Com account.

What kind of shit is this?

by Anonymousreply 5106/04/2014

Whatchu talkin' 'bout, OP?

by Anonymousreply 102/05/2011

Yeah, they're the worst message boards on the Internet and they have the highest barrier to entry, it's weird. I look forward to my future Senatorial campaign being derailed when they connect my bank account to the time I was writing a paper drunk in college and decided that taking a break to troll the IMDB Mac and Me forum was a vital part of my process

by Anonymousreply 202/05/2011

That's a new way to discourage spammers (and fangurls who scream KEANU IS NOT GAY!!).

by Anonymousreply 302/05/2011

Register a new account and they make you link to a credit card or Amazon account. Try it.

by Anonymousreply 402/05/2011

Assume you mean Internet (not International) Movie Database? Or are there 2 sites with those initials?

by Anonymousreply 502/05/2011

One in the same, R5.

by Anonymousreply 602/05/2011

Amazon was doing that back when it first bought the IMDb. I submitted shit to the IMDb for years, but when that guy in the UK sold it to Amazon, I went a decade without submitting ANYTHING because of the policy. Finally, a ridiculous mistake made me sign up just to correct it, but they wouldn't take my submission. It took 6 months and 2 posts to their "help" boards to get the mistake corrected. ONE mistake. The IMDb is as bad as Wikipedia, I swear.

by Anonymousreply 702/06/2011

Only for new people. People who were there before the change in policy did not and do not have to give any CC info.

by Anonymousreply 802/06/2011

Yes but if you change your email address....

by Anonymousreply 902/06/2011

Oh dear.

by Anonymousreply 1002/07/2011

First they came for the IMDB accounts...%0D %0D %0D and I was silent.

by Anonymousreply 1102/07/2011

I can't STAND the forums on IMDB. Full of fangurls reaching for every excuse they can come up with to defend the actors they have crushes on to "prove" the actor in question is not gay. %0D %0D Bunch of sad freaks.

by Anonymousreply 1206/27/2011

IMDb has refused to list a feature film which exists, is of public interest, has been screened, was part of a film festival. has numerous cast and crew members with other credits, etc. for almost ten years. I was a producer and they refuse to list it. It's not porn. It's a feature length drama. They'll list some random reality show person's two seconds on another reality show but refuse to list a sag-franchised feature film.

by Anonymousreply 1306/28/2011

I've never given any credit card info to imdb. I've had an account for years; maybe that's a new thing?

If true, it sadly doesn't keep the homophobes off those boards. It's amazing how anti-gay the posters over there are. There was one guy posting about "Super 8" that couldn't understand why people were offended he kept using the word "fag." He kept falling back on the freedom of speech/1st Amendment argument and yelling at other posters for reporting him as hateful.

by Anonymousreply 1406/28/2011
IMDb has refused to list a feature film which exists, is of public interest, has been screened, was part of a film festival.%0D %0D May I ask what film? Does IMDb give a reason for refusing to list it?

by Anonymousreply 1506/28/2011

Homophobic, fangirly, and annoyingly race-obsessed. You can't get through an attractive black person's board without seeing an "Is s/he all black?" question, or a variation thereof. It's as if they have to find the white in someone before they can justify finding them attractive.

And the John Spencer board is just nauseating, as an example of the blinkered, "I'm not a homophobe, but I hope Actor X isn't gay"/ "He's not gay, he had a GIRLFRIEND!" attitude.

by Anonymousreply 1606/28/2011

First I didn't know they had an international board. So thanks to this post I found out I can post there. Sorry OP. %0D %0D One question wouldn't any movie be listed on the regular board? Whats the point in the international one. I know I'm slow forgive.

by Anonymousreply 1706/28/2011

OP, your problem is that you visited the International Movie Data Base and not the [bold]Internet[/bold] Movie Database. I'd say the "International Movie Data Base" is some sort of phishing scam.

by Anonymousreply 1806/28/2011

IMDB is full of trolls posting nonsense looking for a reaction. Many, if not all, are grown adults.

When I go to IMDB it's just to look up a date or cast list or title. I don't bother with the MBs anymore.

by Anonymousreply 1906/28/2011

Much of the time, I can find better information at Wikipedia.

by Anonymousreply 2006/28/2011

Most of the message boards on IMDB are filled with vile and hateful people condemning other groups of people they dont like or calling other posters ignorant or wrong. Most conversations devulge to attacks on religion, sexuality, or politics.

Never give your card #'s out in a non transaction format over the internet. Most likely nothing bad will happen, but if money were to be withdrawn IMDB would be in no way legally responsible for its recovery.

by Anonymousreply 2110/01/2011

The absolute worst IMDb board is the Politics board. It's full of vile idiots.

by Anonymousreply 2210/02/2011

IMDb is filled with idiots. Only YouTube has worse commenters.

by Anonymousreply 2310/03/2011
Most conversations devulge to attacks on religion, sexuality, or politics.

So kinda like datalounge

by Anonymousreply 2410/03/2011

Let's tell it like it is: Only ignorant fools use the internet. The cool and classy people have walks in the park and feed the ducks while discussing Plato or Nietzsche.

We're all bottom feeders. Don't deny. It would embarrass you and me even more.

Now if you excuse me, a dear friend from Nigeria needs my assistance in a financial matter.

by Anonymousreply 2510/03/2011

I don't know which is more ridiculous: fangirls screaming "He's not gay" or gayboys screaming "He is gay".

by Anonymousreply 2610/03/2011

Bump. Who gives their credit card or telephone number to talk about movies with a bunch of nimwits...

Oh wait.

by Anonymousreply 2712/03/2012

Remember the original imdb with the WashedUpdate?

by Anonymousreply 2812/03/2012

R25 While you're walking in the park, what aspect of Dana Plato's role on "Different Strokes" do you talk about?

by Anonymousreply 2912/03/2012
he IMDb is as bad as Wikipedia, I swear.

Actually studies find Wikipedia was just as reliable as the Encyclopedia Britannica

by Anonymousreply 3012/03/2012

I don't find anything appealing about IMDB unless it's just for a source of information. A TV show's or film's cast. The bio. But for posting at the site, it's not remotely useful to me.

by Anonymousreply 3112/03/2012

R26, you nailed it! If you even remotely ask, which I have done in the past on the messages boards, if someone was gay, they simply ignore your post or the blast the hell out of you! Another common factor they'll say, its their business! Why do you ask if he or she is gay for! who cares! Then they'll have a thread about who is the actor or actress is dating or he or she is married to, which is more acceptable.

Here is a common response that is hilarious! He is not gay! he is dating this actress or he is married to this person, LOL!

Never ever remotely bring up Tyrone Power was gay or even bisexual on the Tyrone Power message board. They think its a major fifthly insult! and you will pay dearly for that one. They will use every excuse to claim he was 150% straight 8!

by Anonymousreply 3212/03/2012

R26 When gayboys scream "He's gay" is because is likely they have met that closeted singer or actor somewhere (private clubs, gay bars) R32 These women are totally delusional and very easily fooled. If a celeb is suspected to be gay, the fangurls don't want to deal with it and hide behind "privacy" policy while if male celeb is suspected to be dating a woman, they'll toss privacy out of the window and try to dig up everything about her and them and talk it out till they are blue in face.

by Anonymousreply 3312/04/2012

The OP Is too poor to afford a credit card

by Anonymousreply 3412/04/2012

Yes, you need a credit card number or telephone number to post messages on the IMDB forum.

Of course they will not tell you this until AFTER you have already given them your email address.

Pretty sneaky trick.

I deleted my account just moments after registration.

IMDB is owned by and they try to acquire your personal information without your knowledge or consent.

by Anonymousreply 3512/25/2013
they try to acquire your personal information without your knowledge or consent.

If you type in your CC and phone numbers, you are doing so with your knowledge and (implied) consent.

by Anonymousreply 3612/25/2013

R33 you must be talking about jeremy renners imdb message board.

by Anonymousreply 3712/25/2013

Or Wentworth Miller pre- coming out. There were a group of rabid fangirls led by a total bitch named Ice-Wine on the WM board who claimed she had insider Hollywood connections and she knew Wentworth was not gay. Anyone who said anything different she would attack, berate, and talk down to. After Wentworth came out I told her I wanted an apology for how she treated me but she refused.

by Anonymousreply 3812/25/2013

R38, you sound pretty fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 3912/25/2013

I get a new Yahoo or Gmail account for new websites I join that are too nosy. It just takes a few minutes. I put in a fake DOB/phone # and anything else they ask for. Fuck them!

I have my real info on Amazon so if I had to share that account with a website I would not join that website.

Now on Huffpo they won't let you post unless you link to Facebook. I guess Ariana (SP?) got paid millions by FB to do this. I have fake info on my FB account anyway as I'm not looking for any friends, old or new, just access to FB to go to other people's FB page. But the damn Huffpo link to sign on with FB doesn't seem to be working. I emailed HuffPo. Maybe I'll hear back at he turn of the NEXT century. So fuck them too.

by Anonymousreply 4012/25/2013

r39 eat dog shit. And merry christmas, cunt.

by Anonymousreply 4112/25/2013
the IMDB Mac and Me forum

This is brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 4212/25/2013

IMDB claim that they started it to reduce the amount of trolls, but if that truly was their intention, they failed because there's still just as many trolls on there as there have always been.

by Anonymousreply 4312/25/2013

R38/R41, you do sound pretty fucking crazy.

by Anonymousreply 4412/26/2013

I have to agree with R39 and R44.

Asking for an apology from some rabid fangurl on the internet? Cray.

by Anonymousreply 4512/26/2013

Don't be silly.

Go to the proper site, create your account and stop to freak out.

by Anonymousreply 4612/26/2013

I don't know what sort of fake IMDb site you're talking about, but the real IMDb doesn't require anything more than an email address. And god knows it's easy to create alternate email addresses.

by Anonymousreply 4712/26/2013

This is a scam. 1st rule of interneting is DON'T GIVE OUT VITAL/PERSONAL INFO. Unless the site needs a c.c to process a transaction or they need your phone # to contact you by phone. Or your address to deliver a purchase you have made... IMDB needs none of this info, BUT amazon does. I fell for it and within a week I started receiving "free vacation" phone calls, the first time I have never given out my cell # since I bought it 5 years ago except to "activate" a 5 year old IMDB account.I would get 3-5 calls a week which I did not answer, however, when I called the number it would just ring, give a busy signal or just beep twice then hang up. I searched the number on google to find thousands of hits per number. THIS IS A SCAM BY AMAZON to spam your phone or credit card with ads. I had to put each # on the "do not call" list, took a while but I am now amazon spam free.

by Anonymousreply 4806/03/2014

Buy a Gift Visa Card to use for these types of purchases.

by Anonymousreply 4906/03/2014

I created an account at a month ago and didn't need anything but an email address.

You can sign up using your accounts from Google, Amazon, Facebook, etc.

So maybe it's something that happens when you try to sign up using your Amazon account.

I never connect any accounts with another like that.

by Anonymousreply 5006/03/2014

IMDB has finally hit rock bottom,I have deleted my account.
