Are any native English speakers featured?

It looks like an ad for some gay cruise line. I wouldn’t be surprised if the cruise put up the cash for the documentary.

Cruises are for cheesy gays.

Yes, there's a black guy from New York. There really wasn't much advertising for the cruise line (at least that I noticed) and if their intent was to get me to want to go on one of their cruises, they failed miserably. I have a hard time imagining anywhere else on earth I'd feel more out of place than aboard that ship. I actually felt bad for the staff who had to clean up allllllllll the used condoms off of the deck. Talk about a workplace bio health hazard.

replies 2Dec 6, 2017 8:47 AM +00:00

Used condoms???Puhleeze, probably not one condom was unwarpped during this cruise. And the thought that anyone from DL is on board is just silly. Unless they filmed the shuffleboard caftan festival on the aft deck

What a dreary-assed waste of time this was. A friend recommended it, so I held on. Otherwise, I would have jumped this ship in the first 10 minutes.

To be avoided.

Pretty people don't have to pay to have a good time.

But I do like the docu's angle of people from anti gay countries doing these circuit (ship) cruise parties to celebrate who they are.

If you are looking for love and long term relationship than a gay cruise isn't the best place to find it.

Come to think of it, there aren't many places that gay men can meet other gays without a "I'm only here to fuck" mantric tone.

--Anonymous
replies 17Dec 6, 2017 10:50 AM +00:00

I am 100% homosexual, and even I can't fathom going on a cruise like that. That's just too damn many queers in one place at one time for me.

--Anonymous
replies 18Dec 6, 2017 10:53 AM +00:00

Its not my cup of tea or my crowd. But it seems churlish for "tasteful friends" to poo poo the tacky gays who choose such holidays and enjoy them. Eek gads, many probably save up their money for a year to buy such holidays, and want to have a good time. The scandal of it all.

Gay cruises are the male versions of Michfest where gay guys can't wait to escape the real world to be fabulous gays around other fabulous gays and be absolutely fabulously gay for a couple of days.

Reminds me of when a friend and I went to the White Party in Palm Springs one year. We felt so out of place. It's like we were looking into a fish tank with a lot of crazy multicolored fishes. Nothing that was going on clicked with us. It actually made me kind of sad. I'm not sure why. Maybe because I realized I wasn't a member of the tribe.

It's like a visit at a Disney theme park. It can be fun with the right people at your side for a little while but getting tedious when you are alone (or not with the right people at your side) and / or stay for too long.

I watched it and have to agree that it was sad. That ship looked filthy. There’s no way I would’ve been able to eat anything on that ship. I really think some of the guys on there had mental issues.

At least the guy from Dubai? knew the cruel ways of the gays and that he didn’t measure up. They showed him alone a lot and him staying in his room because he was being ignored by everyone.

replies 29Dec 6, 2017 7:37 PM +00:00

Sad depressing movie. Lonely guys from various countries flock to this once-a-year gay cruise (organized by an event production company who charters a cruise ship). Trying to escape their repressed environment, attempting to look and act in order to fit in some mythical tribe, or their perceptions of what it might be.

Documentary is produced by a German company with a lot of broken English dialogue, feels like we’re missing lots of the original message. Almost felt like a throwback to old Yahoo chatrooms at certain parts of the day.

replies 30Dec 7, 2017 4:53 PM +00:00

Was this really a documentary though? The shots all seemed too perfectly set up with a static camera angle, and the film has a writer. Do most documentaries have writers?

--Anonymous
replies 31Dec 7, 2017 5:28 PM +00:00

This ghastly film concentrated on the cross dressers and other freaks. The vast majority of guys on these cruises are normal guys looking for a good party and a vacation at sea

R31 strangely IMDB doesn’t list a writer, but it’s not that uncommon to have one. In a “classic” doc there often is some or tons of narration, to introduce topics, bridge segments, provide context, and obviously this needs to be scripted.

I get that, but this "film" had no narration at all. So...just curious what needed to be written if it was truly a documentary, as Netflix suggests.

These sorts of things belong to another time and place. Theres no reason now to have exclusive gay anything, according to the young people today. If I still partied, even as a fat 56 year old,Id jump right in to a cruise like that. I wouldnt give a fig what the "young and beautiful" thought of my old carcass, and I would have a blast. And I bet Id get laid (albeit for a cost!) . Young gays are so determined to ape hetero's theyve forgotten the joys of hedonistic fun.

I went on the local gay dating / hook up site yesterday. Presentable guy over 50 was looking for younger and many of the trolly guys over 50, the same. Half the guys who looked 55 or 60 listed 40 something as their ages. Plus, I go out, I dont meet over 50's anywhere.

I would go on an 0ver 50 cruise. Why not. Its not my cup of tea but at least some over 50's would be forced to deal with each other face to face and stop the virtual supermarket ridiculous categories.

I didn't see it but I thought about that immediately. If you are closeted from a country where homosexuality is scorned why would you agree to be filmed for a documentary? I'm from US and would incur some professional risk if filmed on a cruise as debauched and hedonistic as some have described this one.

I loved it and cried a little at the end. I loved all their flawed bodies and open desire for love, sex and to have fun. I'd like to have seen more about the friendships that sustained them but otherwise thought it was a really accurate account of gay life. Perhaps for some people it was a little too close to the bone?

And yet you claim you tried to kill yourself because of your sexual orientation. Life is what YOU make of it, not what others make of theirs and your approval or disapproval.

It’s one thing to encounter “no fats and no fems” and “no pecs, no sex” online but being trapped on a boat with those people sounds like torture.

What happens if a fatty dares to step on to the dance floor? Do the muscle queens merely give dirty looks and dance away or do they become violent?

Though i must say the palestinian has mental issues. My take away is that it is not always looks that wins. Even if u r fugly, if u r confident u will get laid. Tha explains why i do no hook up. Bit older & long partnered, I don't want that scene. Maybe years ago, but not now. I am fine with a little dancing, but I want away from crowds, drama, drunks, and stink.

Give me a lounge chair, beach unbrella, fruity cocktails, few around, and I am fine.

Admiring himself, preening in a mirror, but referring to his various “attributes” as India, almost like a 3rd person thing. Again probably missing something due to language issues.
