Russia Banned for Olympics!

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Russia has been banned from the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics after evidence emerged of widespread doping but some of its athletes will be allowed to compete under the tag of "Olympic Athlete of Russia," the IOC said on Tuesday.

The International Olympic Committee also decided to suspend Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) president Alexander Zhukov as an IOC member given that his membership is linked to his position as chief of the ROC who have been suspended from the Games.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko was also banned from any future participation at the Olympic Games.

The IOC told a news conference that the Schmid report confirmed "the systematic manipulation of the anti-doping rules and system in Russia."

Some athletes will be allowed to compete under the tag of "Olympic Athlete of Russia," the International Olympic Committee said on Tuesday.

We will bury us!

replies 15Dec 5, 2017 12:46 PM +00:00

Poor Russia. They poured all of that money into their doping regime, in an effort to try and Make Russia Great (at sports) Again, and look how it ended up for them!

replies 16Dec 5, 2017 1:22 PM +00:00

Now they need to go after China in the summer games.

replies 17Dec 5, 2017 1:36 PM +00:00

I hope this ban extends all the way straight to the 2020 Games.

replies 18Dec 5, 2017 1:37 PM +00:00

Now if Russia could be banned from the planet, we might make some progress.

replies 19Dec 5, 2017 1:41 PM +00:00

Betcha Trump'll pull the US out in solidarity with his pal.

replies 20Dec 5, 2017 1:43 PM +00:00

I wonder when Trump will tweet?

replies 21Dec 5, 2017 1:44 PM +00:00

I don't understand the news reports about Russia considering "boycotting" the Games in response. How can they boycott something that won't let them in?

replies 22Dec 5, 2017 1:55 PM +00:00

I'm sure their enterprising whores (i.e., all their women), will make the journey down from Vladivostok. Someone has to get the vodka and krokodil money.

In related news, water is wet.

replies 24Dec 5, 2017 3:01 PM +00:00

Figure skaters & individual athletes can still compete with the "neutral" team, as long as they prove they are clean.

replies 25Dec 5, 2017 3:05 PM +00:00

What's the "neutral" team?

replies 30Dec 5, 2017 3:34 PM +00:00

Neutral team is a team that not connected to any country. They compete as an "independent"

replies 31Dec 5, 2017 3:42 PM +00:00

The documentary Icarus on Netflix about the doping scheme is really great. The director/star of the film also flashes his ass a few times early in the film.

replies 32Dec 5, 2017 3:46 PM +00:00

Which they will never do as it would be beyond degrading to the Motherland.

replies 33Dec 5, 2017 3:46 PM +00:00

replies 34Dec 5, 2017 3:47 PM +00:00

Are the figure skaters doped up, too?

replies 35Dec 5, 2017 3:47 PM +00:00

I'm loving it - tell that to the deplorables.

replies 40Dec 5, 2017 4:07 PM +00:00

Russia has one great shot at a gold in figure skating (ladies) but she’s said she won’t compete as an independent.

replies 41Dec 5, 2017 4:08 PM +00:00

R34 in 1992 Olympic with the break-up of the Soviet Union, the team was forced to compete under the "Unified" banner

replies 42Dec 5, 2017 4:09 PM +00:00

But But her emails!

Trump just tweeted #CrookedHillary doped thoughout her campaign and she still got to run. How is this fair to Russia? #SoUnfair

replies 43Dec 5, 2017 4:10 PM +00:00

When an athlete competes under the "neutral" flag they compete as an independent and they don't represent any country. They compete representing themselves, hence being an independent

replies 44Dec 5, 2017 4:11 PM +00:00

WTF is Dump going on about at R43? What an idiot, per usual.

replies 45Dec 5, 2017 4:20 PM +00:00

With the Russians out of the figure-skating competition, does that mean that Ashley Wagner will finally win an Olympic medal higher than bronze?

She's probably hyper-ventilating right now.
replies 46Dec 5, 2017 4:24 PM +00:00

R46 they are NOT out of the competition, They can still compete as an independent under the Neutral team

replies 47Dec 5, 2017 4:27 PM +00:00

Putin will probably kill any athlete who dares compete as "neutral."

replies 48Dec 5, 2017 4:31 PM +00:00

Alternatively, he will force everyone to compete as neutral and just pretend they're competing for Russia. They can always Photoshop the uniforms for their propaganda newspapers.

replies 49Dec 5, 2017 4:33 PM +00:00

R47, --- R41 said the main contender in the ladies event won't compete as an independent - so they are in fact out.

I just wondered if Wagner will still be throttled by the Koreans, Japanese and Chinese, or if the poor gal now stands a chance.

replies 50Dec 5, 2017 4:36 PM +00:00
Alternatively, he will force everyone to compete as neutral and just pretend they're competing for Russia. They can always Photoshop the uniforms for their propaganda newspapers.

Exactly they did the same thing in 1992 with the "unified" team

replies 51Dec 5, 2017 4:36 PM +00:00

Yeah, but they weren't banned for doping in 1992..

replies 52Dec 5, 2017 4:39 PM +00:00

Sad - the Russian trannies were ready to sweep the ladies' competitions in all categories.

Ashley Wagner said "I'm not a quitter" last week....right after she quit at a Grand Prix event. She's worse than Gracie Gold and will come home empty handed.....and empty headed, as usual.

replies 53Dec 5, 2017 4:40 PM +00:00
Yeah, but they weren't banned for doping in 1992..

The point is that the athletes were stateless back then, like they are right now

Tonya, shouldn't you be taking whatever it is you take for your dry-pussy disease?

--Sasha Cohen ... HAAAAAY BITCHES
replies 55Dec 5, 2017 4:44 PM +00:00

I actually liked both Gracie Gold and Sasha Cohen. Sure, they fucked up their jumps and landed on their assess a lot, but they had a nice style. Cohen was like a ballerina and Gold was a living Barbie doll.

replies 56Dec 5, 2017 4:51 PM +00:00

Oh well, look on the bright side: at least they still have their vodka and Krokodil.

Has Adelina Sotnikova released a statement yet?. Bitch is lucky she won when she did.

Dope and judge collusion aren't so hard to figure.

The scoring and judging that gave Sotnikova the gold medal over Kim Yu-na shows why figure skating is popular among mainstream fans only every four years.

replies 65Dec 5, 2017 5:51 PM +00:00

R46, no American Lady is likely to medal even without Russia. Japan, Catelyn Osmond (Canada) and Carolina Kostner (Italy) are the most likely beneficiaries. The highest ranked American woman this season is 12th internationally--Bradie Tennell and, no, you've never heard of her.

It's not even clear, at this point, if Ashley will get on the team, let alone medal.

replies 66Dec 5, 2017 6:02 PM +00:00

Sucks for Russia!

replies 70Dec 5, 2017 8:33 PM +00:00

The Olympics isn't just figure skating--- there are probably other sports where non-Russian countries will do better than expected.

replies 71Dec 5, 2017 8:34 PM +00:00

replies 75Dec 5, 2017 10:05 PM +00:00

Unfortunately the use of drugs extends far beyond Russia. You want to ban Russia, then ban China and the US and a host of other nations that are also approving or looking the other way on drug use.

replies 76Dec 5, 2017 10:06 PM +00:00

Do you imagine for one second that the Olympic committee hasn't been looking at all the major nations? The problem with the massive Russian doping operation has been public knowledge for a long time. All nations are not the same, and Russia is by far the worst offender.

replies 78Dec 5, 2017 11:57 PM +00:00

Russians don't care about lying, cheating and stealing. In their country, these actions are seen as noble. It doesn't matter if it's politics or sports, as long as they "win." They have no "right or wrong" conscience.

What's the point of the ban if the Russian athletes can still compete?

replies 82Dec 6, 2017 12:45 PM +00:00

They can compete, but they cannot wave Russian flags.

replies 83Dec 6, 2017 6:03 PM +00:00

Their stateless, basically. Nothing they do reflects on Russia, and they have to get some sort of special dispensation from the Olympic committee to compete. It's not like the Russian team just shows up like normal.

Russia was banned from the 2018 Winter Olympics. However, the IOC said athletes who could prove they weren’t doping could compete as “Olympic Athletes from Russia,” or OAR. So there are 150 Russian athletes competing this year. They marched in grey under the IOC flag.
