Lou Reed was probably the rudest man I ever met. This was maybe 30 years ago when I worked in a bar in the village. I was a twinky grad student and reached my limit with that asshole. I ignored him for maybe 15 minutes and told him “Grandpa, go somewhere else. You’re a dick.”

Jaco Pastorius was also an ass, but he seemed bipolar.

R4, you're awesome. I'm so glad you said that to Lou Reed, one of the most notorious assholes to have ever walked the earth. He was just a rude, pompous, insufferable piece of shit, and always has been. I have two friends who were very prominent during the NYC / Bowery / CBCG punk scene in the mid-70s, and Lou Reed was so goddamn awful back then, they still don't really have words to describe his personality.

I was managing a record store that hosted a Barry Manilow in-store appearance in the late 80's. His list of demands was insane - room temp water, cold water, various trays of food, dry towels, warm damp towels etc. All he used were the towels (to wipe his hands between shakes) and a bottle of room temp Perrier. I got to feed over $300 in food and drink to my staff after the event (remember this was the late 80's). Turnout was depressed by a pretty significant snow storm so Barry decided to leave early - despite the fact we had made him aware there was "Fanilow" on route from the airport, which was less than 15 minutes from the store, who had flown into the US from Tokyo specifically to attend the event and meet her idol and was delayed by the weather. From the minute he walked in the door he was rude, surly and a complete asshole about the turnout. Frankly, considering we got about a foot of wet sloppy snow that day, I though the turnout of a few dozen was pretty good - and he was already pretty much a has-been by that point.

I read Sammy Hagar's memoir. He came off sounding like a pompous, narcissistic prick. Hated (actually jealous) of Van Halen's first lead singer, David Lee Roth, and kept on saying that he was gay in a demeaning manner. He outed him in a very nasty way. He also said hateful things about Eddie Van Halen despite the fact that the man had cancer. In fact he didn't seem to like much of anyone that he worked with. An uncouth, ignorant man who I wouldn't turn my back on. His book left me with an awful feeling about him. Very mean-spirited at times.

There were plenty of moments in my music retailing career to compensate R13. Pizza and an acoustic set with a completely charming up and comer named Melissa Etheridge ( I ate Dominos while listening to Come to My Window live before it was released); Lunch with En Vogue promoting their second album; shooting the shit with Donny Osmond at a promo event at Paisley Park; meeting& frequently dining with opera stars I had idolized for years; watching Spinal Tap perform live at an 8AM private show in their PJ's. Barry was one of my few truly awful experiences - only surpassed by her Royal Cunty-ness Cathy Lee Gifford.

Madonna is notorious for being rude to people. I read a story in a magazine a number of years ago about a well known male Country singer (I've forgotten his name) who just happened to be on the same plane as Madge. He stated that she was frowning, unfriendly, and looked to be in a terrible mood. He stated that after awhile an airline stewardess came up to him, said that Madonna liked his boots and wanted to know where he got them. He said that if Madonna really wanted to know she could get up and damn well ask him herself.

Re Barry Manilow's requests. I worked on a music festival for a few years, and some of the demands were absolutely insane. Donna Summer, for instance, had a list of ridiculous requests, which we adhered to, because hers was a benefit concert, and she was charging much less than her then going rate. I was backstage with her, and I don't know it came up, but she, herself, didn't make any of those demands, and didn't even know they were asked for on her behalf. Her overzealous road manager made the list. It could be the same with Manilow, and any other group who asks for absurd shit.

Patti Smith was a foul, starfucking diva in her day. When she made it big (and to this day, nobody I know is quite sure how she managed to wrangle an excellent backing band who played along with her "poetry," or how they fashioned whole songs together since she was never a musician or vocalist) she had a dreadful attitude. I can't remember which venue it was, but she was backstage and Debbie Harry found her way in there, among all the guys--this was before Blondie became massive--and Patti, who was subservient to men and jealous / resentful of any other woman, especially those she considered rivals, yelled, "Get that CUNT out of here!"

I heard Sting is a complete jerk. An older guy I know who sold guitars in the 70's and 80's who would bring in his merchandise backstage for the rocks stars to look at and possibly buy. He met a countless number of big name musicians. He knew he was dealing with some big ego types, many he met were generally friendly and gracious and some were not and he was cool with this. Out of all of them, he said Sting was the worst of the worst. He said he was allowed back stage and into his dressing room. Sting was getting a massage and looked up and said "Just leave the stuff (bass guitars he brought to show him) in the corner and get out. I will check them out later and we'll get back to you." . He said Sting looked at him like he was the scum of the earth when he looked up from his massage. I don't think he was exaggerating. Yeah, from what he described, Sting sounds like a certified jerk. My theory is, Sting was just about to get a happy ending right before my friend walked in. The male masseuse was some dark skinned guy, and my friend said he was very handsome. Maybe he was turning Sting out. Or vice versa.

I've worked in music for 22 years. Major labels, indie labels, management companies.

Mike Love - complete asshole. Caught him talking shit about Brian Wilson out in the open in a green room. Such audacity. Robert Plant - Snubbed every person who came up to him at a Grammy event. Miley Cyrus - Not a lot of people know she decided that she was done with Hannah Montana halfway through the last season. Then she refused to sing anymore songs from the show. 8 songs were cut, 4 episodes had to be rewritten, 12 songwriters, 2 publishers, 5 managers all lost out on revenue from the songs that were supposed to be cut. Fuck that cunt.

Another vote for Robert Plant. I waited tables in Nashville a few years ago, when he was living here. He could not have been a bigger asshole. He got the manager fired because the waiters weren't making enough of a fuss about him, and we treated him like we treat everyone. He was pissed that he didn't get special "we are in the presence of greatness" treatment. He also was cheap as fuck, and complained that we charged him for additional sides. He used to come in regularly, and he was a total ass.

r14 no, Hagar is right on this one. Although he also could be an asshole, he's correct. Eddie is a notorious prick. Valerie wasn't too thrilled about him in her book, but she allegedly held back because of the family. This is Hagar from a few years ago, on the book tour describing how EVH treats people, including everyone around him.

BTW, Hagar's also right about his status-he was an established rock singer, although he can sound arrogant if you didn't know his pre Van Halen history.

Belinda Carlisle was a complete bitch once when I saw her in Philly a few years ago. My cousin worked sound, so I got to go in for soundcheck, and she was so fucking rude to the workers. "Is this your first fucking night?" and "Can you get someone here who's not an idiot?" and the funniest - since supposedly in her autobiography she talked about "coming clean" was then screaming about how her wine wasn't chilled.

Best part was, as she was coming on stage, someone screamed "marry me" and she "get a life" and then proceeded to painfully sing her stuff. I stayed anyway, since I do like a bunch of her songs, but she was so nasty!

r37 Lou Reed is a fucking piece of garbage who used his money and status to get an organ he didn't deserve due to his own lifestyle choices that finally caught up to him. Not only that, he should never have been given a liver because he was nowhere near stable and sober enough to handle it. Of course, he went back to using, and it killed him.

He's a complete no talent cunt who took advantage of being at the right place at the right time (much like Patti Smith), and rode it for the rest of his miserable life. Oh, and he was another asshole who was gay when it served his career, but then crawled into hetero life when he was done using us to be trendy, like the other 70s poseur extraordinaire David Bowie.

He and Bobby McFarrin had visited our studios together. Instead of Al's talking/answering questions, interacting with people, he chose to 'talk' through Bobby.

I have encountered few musicians or rock musicians, but have seen Patti Smith in action, a total cunt.

She was a guest at a fancy Park Ave dinner party. Her attitude and personality were grim and rude when addressed, of course! Most people ESPECIALLY Jewish matrons do NOT allow smoking in their homes! It just isn't done these days, especially in a fussy bespoke co-op with millions of dollars of art on the walls. Patti lit a cigarette and used a fancy painted drink coaster as an ash tray! I thought the hostess was going to die on the spot. Of course when she asked at me to get an ash tray, she realized she didn't OWN an ashtray! What a gross pig Smith is! Oh, and she wore tattered jeans and a peasant blouse, she was dressed for a casual lesbian poetry reading!

Cindy Lauper is really whiney and difficult. She HATES cigarette smoke and acts like she's "allergic" and suffering anaphylaxis if there's one part per trillion in her rarified air, and has to berate everyone (the people who aren't even smoking) for her discomfort. Oh, shut UP, BITCH!

Bonnie Raitt is a living doll! What a sweet lady!

Years ago I played in an ensemble that accompanied Anne Murray during a performance she gave in my hometown. She was amazing as both a performer and human being. Impressions from hanging with a buddy in the Seattle music scene: Nick Cave, self-important prick. Was unnecessarily rude and condescending to a kid from a local radio station who was interviewing him and obviously idolized him. Asshole.

Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie), very nice and unassuming. I didn't know who he was, and thought he was a college student. No posse, no "do you know who I AM?"

Exene Cervenka: twat. Bitchy, no eye contact with the little people. Her ex husband John Doe and sometime bandmate Dave Alvin, just a couple of good old boys. Laid back, no attitude.

Lady Sovereign (Brit rapper): a real sweetheart. She should have been as big as Adele but never got her big breakthrough. She was like some bright, sassy working class girl you'd meet in a pub in one of the outer London boroughs.

Courtney Love: drug addled mess. Not a surprise, but still a shame.

George Harrison had a sexual and emotional affair with Ringo Starr's wife, Maureen in the mid 70s. In front of his wife, Pattie, Ringo, and Maureen he confessed to Ringo that he was in love with his wife. Ringo took it rather while and simply replied, "At least it's someone I know."

What happened after that is a mystery. Maureen denied they were ever involved. This is based on an account that was retold in Pattie Boyd's book, 'Wonderful Tonight'. Her account of the affair is backed up in another book by Chris O'Dell, who George Harrison tried to bed, but she turned him down because she didn't want to ruin the friendship she developed with Pattie.

However, she did end up sleeping with Ringo. O'Dell stated that George told her in no uncertain terms that he was, "...in love with, Maureen." Her reaction was to laugh him off until she realized he was serious.

I can't remember who said this, maybe it was one of the Beatles, perhaps John himself. It goes something like this...to make it as big as the Beatles you had to be a bastard, and the Beatles were the biggest bastards around. Out of the four of them, Lennon was the worst by all accounts. The rest weren't angels either though.

What happened after that is a mystery.

No, it's not. Ringo divorced Maureen, but stayed friends with George. Pattie Boyd still slags off Maureen, even though Maureen is long dead. And, of course, Pattie stayed with adulterer George......until Pattie decided on a little adultery for herself.

Maureen was banished from the Beatles "family," which devastated her. Eventually she married the guy who owned the Hard Rock Cafe. She had leukemia & her son Zak gave her bone marrow, but she died shortly after the operation. Very sad.

R89

The mystery I'm referring to is what happened directly after George confessed that he was in love with Maureen. Pattie never followed up with anyone else's reaction to the news except for Ringo's. The book was poorly written which is unfortunate because if Pattie had a better ghost writer the book could've been leaps and bounds better than the final product.

Interesting tidbit. The two banished Beatle wives, Maureen and Cynthia Lennon were together when they found out John was murdered in New York.

I saw Pattie in an interview that took place in the last few years and she's still talking about how her best friend betrayed her by having an affair with Pattie's husband. George got off Scot free.

An interviewer asked Pattie about George's many, many, many infidelities. You must have been aware of them, the interviewer said. Did you just expect him to be unfaithful?

And she said yes. The Beatles were the most famous men in the world. Women were going to throw themselves at them, so of course George would have affairs. George's second wife said the exact same thing. He was a very famous man; it was to be expected.

I guess being married to a very rich, very famous man made up for his being unfaithful. You didn't get to go to the best clubs & restaurants, use private jets, vacation whenever you felt like it, and you didn't get treated like a VIP if you left your world famous husband.

R42, years ago, friends, relatives, and I went to a taping of a "live" music show. It could've been Divas Live or one of those other VH1 programs. Cyndi Lauper was one of the performers, and while the other musical guests before her sang a song or two and moved on, Miss Lauper stopped and started her set half a dozen times until she and her band got it right. She was whiney and demanding, berating the band, the sound guys, etc. The other acts were fun and spontaneous, but she killed the mood by being a perfectionist diva. Love her, but I thought she behaved like a jerk for holding us hostage and boring us with what should've been done during sound check.

Another interesting thing about Clapton, Harrison, and Boyd that involves Boyd's younger sister. At one point, George wanted to 'swap partners' for a bit and bed Pattie's younger sister, who Clapton was dating at the time. It didn't end up happening though. I can't remember why.

I was wondering when/if someone would mention Joni Mitchell, and, alas, someone has. I don't know if she can be considered a jerk; rather she is just opinionated and strong willed. I'm not sure that is the same thing. I had read a bunch of interviews with her, and she comes off very negative and mean, but, then I saw an interview -- vs just reading the transcript of one -- and much of what would sound negative in print was actually said in such a way to be humorous. I also read in the "Disaster Artist" that she invited a store clerk who had just sold her a sweater out to dinner, despite him not knowing who she was. So..is she a jerk? or just someone who has no problems speaking her mind? I prefer to think the latter, because I think she's tremendous.

Heard some good stuff from a publicist recently. Prince was near-autistic and just insanely talented; could pick up an instrument he'd never touched or heard before and play it, immediately. He was a terrible judge of people, and surrounded himself with manipulative idiots. David Bowie was smart, kind, and actually cool as hell without being pretentious. Just a truly lovely guy. And Sting? An arrogant prat who --along with his wife--is ashamed of their autistic child. Also, he does a lot of good for the rainforest, which is admirable, but undoes it by having such a large staff he flies EVERWHERE on any whim. Publicist said that Sting's staff is something like 30 people, all of whom dislike Sting and loathe his wife. By comparison, Mick Jagger has a staff of 4.

Surprised to read above about Sting's generosity--however, my source is a real insider so I don't know what to think.

A book by Marc Bolan's manager said he was a narcissist who ran off most of his friends. When he died, he was doing an afternoon kids' show and David Bowie was one of his last guests - there's a video somewhere of Marc accidentally falling off the stage and Bowie laughed. Soon after, he was riding home with his wife and she ran their car into a tree, immediately killing him (impaling him I think). His first wife refused to give any money to his black baby-mamma and David Bowie paid for the boy's schooling at expensive private school in the US. I've got the book around here somehwere - I can't remember the manager's name but he went way back to the beginning w/Bolan when he was playing psychedelic type stuff acoustically with a partner he later parted with (angrily as usual). This guy also produced records for Bowie who he said was a good guy and a great friend.

John Lydon was really good to my other half who walked up to him after watching others, including myself, shake his hand when he was drinking in our local. Other half said he didn’t like Lydon’s music that much. Lydon laughed and asked him who he did like. When he replied Johnny Mathis Lydon jumped up, asked him his name ( Paul ) and said ‘That’s our music, isn’t it Paul’, grabbed him and proceeded to waltz around the pub with him. We had a few drinks with him. He was a laugh.

Mate of mine out on the town in NY with his mates met Liam Gallagher and they spent the rest of the night going from bar to bar. He was a laugh apparently.

Met Freddy Mercury at a party when he was quite ill. Sat with Kenny Everett in the kitchen. I knew Everett from the bar where I worked the door so said hello and he introduced us. He was charming.

Chatted with Jimmy Page at a poetry reading his girlfriend was doing. Laid back friendly. Van Morrison was with them. Kept himself to himself.

Drank with Shane McGowan some years back. Good bloke and, again, totally charming to my other half. He’s older than me so would have been in his 50s then and, while an avid Little Richard and Fats Domino fan, knew of McGowan’s reputation and was intrigued by him, being something of a drinker himself. They sat and chatted at the bar for a while.

No bad experiences. Darn.

Lou Reed, one of the most notorious assholes to have ever walked the earth

A couple of documentaries recently ("Danny Says" and "Shot!") have used audiotapes of Reed talking with people and colleagues and even when around friends, even when the tapes were edited to show him in a positive light, he came across as a dick.

Neil Diamond is super touchy, and it depends on which venue and his mood as to whether staff can look at him or not. Some of it is because of the crazy things fans have done in the past, which were sometimes scary. But it's also because he has major back problems and requires medical and PT staff, and until recently he was trying to hide all that.

I don't know if any of you are old enough to remember his heyday in the 1970s and how people would make fun of how he was always running up to a mic, even when just presenting Grammy awards. That running was actually to cover a limp he had because of a huge tumor pressing on his spine. He had that removed but then had a couple of motorcycle accidents later on, and now his back is a disaster. If anyone saw him on The View in about 2010, you probably noticed he was high as a kite on painkillers and could barely walk up the steps to get to his chair.

Anyone have the misfortune to come across Elton during his cocaine years?

I once talked to a girl who was in group rehab with him in the late 1980s. Everyone paired off and shared contact info with someone else so they had someone to call if they were feeling weak or relapsing, and she was paired off with him, but he gave her a number to a manager's office and she couldn't get hold of him. He stopped showing up to group pretty quickly, too.

I only knew her because the replacement guy she was paired off with was a friend of mine who joined the group after Elton left, apparently.

Don Henley called paramedics to his home on November 21, 1980, where a 16-year-old girl was found naked and claiming she had overdosed on quaaludes and cocaine. She was arrested for prostitution, while a 15-year-old girl found in the house was arrested for being under the influence of drugs. He was subsequently charged for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, fined and put on probation.[75][76][77] Henley was arrested and pleaded no contest. He was fined $2,500 and put on two years' probation.[78] Chiles, who was no longer in a relationship with Henley at the time of the incident, later said, "I was shocked to hear about it. He didn't have drugs around the house. It was an accident, I'm sure."[74]

R162, I have an artist friend who makes the same claim. Like you, I don't believe they're tortured, just really self-absorbed. My sarcastic saying about them is: Being an artist means never having to get up in the morning (until you feel like it). I once knew a female artist (unsuccessful) who developed female problems and became voluntarily bedridden. She refused to get the recommended hysterectomy, claiming the uterus is the seat of female creativity and she couldn't be an artist without it. Instead, she tried to get on disability. Yeah, for a problem that could be fixed with an operation.

As for famous rock jerks, forget Ted Nugent and his underage girlfriend. But Glen Frey was a real loser, too. A complete asshole and obnoxious bully who believed he WAS The Eagles. To listen to him, none of the other members (except Henley) contributed anything. I saw the Eagles on their Long Run tour, and he was such an ass, constantly telling the happy, rowdy crowd to shut the fuck up, and threatening to walk off the stage after every song.

Before the Beatles made it big, while they were in Germany, John Lennon supposedly pissed out of a window onto some nuns passing by underneath. He also savagely attacked Stu Sutcliffe, and Sutcliffe's head injury has been attributed either to being jumped by thugs or by the beating he took from Lennon. In the Beatles' heyday, Lennon supposedly raped a girl at a concert just before he went onstage. The story went that he told his manager that he had to have sex before he would go on. They had a couple roadies go into the audience and grab a nearby girl, dragged her backstage, John raped her, and the band ran onstage to perform. But my favorite asshole Lennon story was that he supposedly would pull cat turds out of the litter box and ploppthem in Yoko's path, so she'd step in them before she'd realized what she'd done.

Sting has an autistic child? Never heard this gossip. Which one?

Sting's eldest son, Joe Sumner, from his marriage to his first wife Irish actress Frances Tomelty, is a working musician, he sings and has a band. One of Sting's daughters, Coco Elliot Sumner, with Trudie, is a lesbian, she sings and plays bass, she reminds me of Jaco Pastorious and her voice sounds like Sting's. Coco has worked with singer Robyn. Coco is dating some famous model, forgot her name.

Sting's eldest daughter with his first wife, Kate Sumner, is an actress as is the eldest daughter Bridgette Mickey Sumner, with Trudie. Mickey has been in several films with Greta Gerwig.

I gather the autistic child is one of the younger kids, two boys? Giacomo or Jake? I used to be a huge Police/Sting fan, I never heard about any of his kids being autistic.

Here's Coco, she looks a lot like Sting, pre-nose job.

R132, Gene Simmons is the douchiest fuckwad who ever picked up a bass. All accounts paint him out to be an arrogant, condescending, insufferable mama's boy who lives up to the stereotype of the rapacious Jew. The latest story I heard about him (not counting his recent incident of walking into Fox TV staffroom and exposing his chest and saying something lewd as a mockery of the spate of sexual-harassment charges currently going on) involved a hotel employee. He helped Gene and his wife with their luggage, brought it into their room, and the prick--with that godforsaken wig and ever-present sunglasses--said, "I suppose you're waiting for me to give you a tip." He opened his wallet and threw two one-dollar bills on the ground.

R56, I am so happy to hear that Roger Daltrey is a sweetheart. I fell in lust with him when I was very young and saw his hotness in "Tommy," and have adored him and The Who ever since. Great, solid, talented, hardworking man with no scandals I can think of.

R193

John was pretty shitty to Cynthia throughout their relationship and marriage. Some of the highlights:

She came home from a vacation, found John and Yoko in bathrobes in the sunroom, acting nonchalant about her presence.

After their trip to India (Which John tried to get Yoko invited to as well. However, that was vetoed by the other Beatles or maybe that was when they went off to Bangor...) on the plane ride back home, John get really drunk and told Cynthia about all of the affairs he'd had during the course of their relationship.

He also sent one of his hanger ons 'Magic Alex' after Cynthia to seduce and bed her. He'd planned on being the once to file of divorce on the grounds of infidelity. It didn't work. Cynthia didn't sleep with 'Magic Alex'.

R200

According to Julian, that's the reason why he rarely smiles in photos. His father's harsh words about his smile made him quiet self conscious.

I've told this story before but here goes again. I was backstage at a Linda Ronstadt concert in 1978 at the, then, Universal Amphitheater. There was a VIP room and in walks none other than Phil Spector with entourage. Linda was a doll but she was clearly disturbed by his presence. Anyways, he proceeds to chat her up and then it came time for the show. Linda tried to leave and Spector grabbed her arm and told her she was going to stay and talk to him. Linda's people intervened and Linda yelled at him "Go back to the fucking zoo." It was weird but considering what happened to Lana Clarkson, I couldn't get it out of my mind. I sent an account to the prosecutor's office but they obviously didn't follow up on it.

Speaking of James Taylor, about a decade ago, he rented a house in my neighborhood from Jackie Collins. He and his wife Kim wanted to put a vegetable garden in the front yard but the rental agent told them they couldn't Both very cool and humble people. Lydon was pretty focussed on two ladies at the next table initially. He was also far more patient than I would be with the constant approaches from people. Rambo couldn’t stop them all. I wasn’t going to bother him but the friends I was with knew how punk had truly been a bit of a lifesaver for me ( I was 16 in ‘76 ). Glad I did. He was a laugh. I think he took to my partner because he’s a straight talking Yorkshireman ( worked down the pits etc ) and not an arse kisser.

R195 - that time he was drinking the largest bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale I have ever seen. Never seen bottles like that on sale. With a full pint of Cinzano or Campari or something as a chaser. He was also wearing an immaculate grey sharkskin suit.

R212 - He used to drink in Filthy McNasty’s a lot and a bunch of us were working just around the corner. Also in a couple of Camden watering holes. Depp used to hang out with him and he was there in one of those places one time. Kept it all very low key. There was a big group of us around three tables. They just mucked in like anyone else. All of us were big drinkers back then.

A close friend living in ATL would frequently encounter Whitney Houston at an A&P as she came off her 2nd shift job. Whitney would stroll in for cigs, milk , etc. She said that often women or teens would go crazy to see her, alone usually. Every time Whitney was as gracious, patient and would chat them up briefly. She noted that Whitney was so ordinary, kind. As for her, she said that she was totally in awe and so shy to approach her, she just couldnt believe she was watching her. My friend really deeply regrets not having shared her love and admiration for Whitney with her. She said Whitney hardly put on airs.

LOL at the idea of Jane Wiedlin being a Heather girl. A friend of mine was hired to be an ASSISTANT chef for her. Yeah, she needed her chef to have a helper. Having worked with professional musicians, I tend to think for the so-called insightful tidbits involving sound checks - are just that. Real deal sound checks. The performances (and recordings) are their livelihood and you’d be surprised at the number of: inept, incompetent, unprofessional fuckwads that get sent or assigned to a musician at a public venue. Is it wrong to ask for professional sound equipment and engineers? I don’t think so. I highly suspect the butt hurt stories around sound checks are due to people who deserved to not be there. And they know it. They just got called on it, and had to make up an exaggerated story to explain why they weren’t going to open for X musician. I’ve known some of the above mentioned. They love music, could jam all day with friends and new friends. But the performance stage is their bread and butter.

Bizarre example? A flamboyant bottom was supposed to be doing sound at a venue. All of a sudden onstage he appeared behind equipment, laying on his side, smiling and blowing kisses to the musicians. Amazingly, he didn’t last.

LOL at the idea of Jane Wiedlin being a Heather girl.

She may have been a quiet frau at home but her and Belinda were bad around each other. They did turn into Heathers. Belinda was the leader, and Jane would follow.

To be clear - this is how it's been since they reunited. Jane did fight back against Belinda when she left for her solo career. Jane poured her soul into Talk Show and others took credit. She wasn't able to sing on a song she'd expected to sing on. But everything they've done since 1990 has been all business, and a lot of manipulation and shitstirring. Kathy's court filing has a hysterical (but sad) outline of Who Are We Mad At Today?

R257 Well, a lot of usual bullshit. Don't look him in the eye. We had to relay all messages to our manager, who would then tell Morrisey's person, who had to write it on a piece of paper because HE wasn't allowed to look Her Royal Highness in the mirror, either.

He was supposed to appear in a talk with a local radio DJ for 15 minutes, and sign something for 15 minutes for a select group of people - I think it was his latest album. We had maybe 15-20 people who had won tickets through a big radio drawing to get things signed. And then he and his band were supposed to sing a few numbers from the album, for which we had thousands of people outside waiting for.

The DJ interview starts and it's a bomb. Monosyllabic replies and after three or four questions, Morrissey removes his lav mic and is all "OK, done with that." He walks over to the signing table, complains about the marker that's there, and signs, I think, two or three items. He gets terribly angry because a store patron has food in their hands which is distracting him, and then he flounces to the back room, which him and his crew have commandeered.

They come out, do one song, and they are gone. So, of their three commitments, they completed NONE of them.

There isn't a single person I know of who was there and didn't just want to shit on his records after that day. I still have my Smiths records, but that day killed my ability to appreciate his solo stuff.

R269 The sad thing is, I loved him, and we all knew he was a bit eccentric. We were willing to give him a wide berth. Having a generation of fans who just so deeply identify with your work - and the Smiths had those "stans," partly because there was no one else like them - can be overwhelming. But this went way beyond the "hey, he's been on tour, he's tired, he's in a bad mood" thing. He treated everyone as if they'd just taken a flaming dump on his shoes.

But it was a good lesson, which I've kept in mind when working with freelance clients. I worked with a rising indie musician recently and told him the story with the admonishment "You can have a bad day, but try not to be THAT asshole."

Derek Trucks who used to play with the Allman brothers band and DTB (Derek Trucks Band), and who has a band Tedeschi Trucks Band with his wife Susan Tedeschi used to be really nice and down to earth and would talk to fans after shows. But now he's snobby, forgets where he came from, really loves coke, smokes lots of herb but only after shows, cheats on his wife despite them touring together, and apparently has a micro penis from what a friend who hooked up with him said.

Warren Haynes is very kind and nice but he smokes a lot of herb, does drink alcohol despite claiming in interviews he does not, loves coke when it's around, and basically hits on any groupie/backstage scenester chick even if they are not that good looking. His wife Steph is annoying though and thinks he's the next Hendrix or Duane Allman when he's just a generic blues player and basically now a professional cover artist.

Jimmy Herring is the nicest musician ever. Always talks to fans, is kind/considerate, and doesn't cheat on his wife.

Gregg Allman was also very nice and would talk to fans but only when he was outside venues, and when his security was around.

Dickey Betts is the nicest member out of all of the Allman brothers. He is very kind to fans, and a nice guy, but if he's extremely drunk and not in a nice mood he will let you know this. My friends in college helped set up the stage for him at a local venue and they were told not to approach him as he just wanted to relax before the show, so that's what they did.

Oteil Burbridge of the Allmans and dead co. loves herb and mushrooms, and acid, is a nice guy, married but gets with some side piece chick that does yoga and tried to scam rich scenester/Trustafarians that if they paid a lot of money they could go to Iceland with her and Oteil, and apparently that never happened.

Butch Trucks was very nice and kind, but if he was angry, in a bad mood, or did not like you he would let you know.

Bill Kreutzmann is nice, only if you have drugs or are a hot chick with tits. Uses coke even in his 70s, loves herb, still trips occasionally, and is a total garbage can when it comes to taking drugs. Really does not like most of his fans, but only puts up with them to get free drugs.

Bob Weir is nice and loves to party with fans but goes overboard with it. Is a major alcoholic, loves opiates and even coke if it's around, and loves to hook up with young adult women.

Dave Matthews is really stuck up, snobby, loves coke and had a heroin addiction, and hooks up with college aged women.

Mike Gordon of phish is a total douchebag asshole, who is stuck up and who thinks he's the next Jaco.

Worst musician I've heard about is Prince. Not to talk ill of the deceased but I'm gonna...

When flying in, he wouldn't tell the transportation company which airport he was flying into (big city-2 airports) so they driver just had to keep driving around. Then threw a hissy fit that it was a smaller vehicle (SUV) and wanted a large tourbus- mind you this is just an airport pickup. During sound check, fired his guitarist, rehired him and then fired him again (was told to stay because who else is going to fill in at the 11th hour?). Oh and the worst part was that after the show was onsale, venue was told that the "symbol" (stage) couldn't face west so venue had to put up new section signs to basically reconfigure the arena. And a coworker was shoved in a closet by security when Prince was approaching. After show party at a bar in the city supposed to start around 1130 and he showed up about 2am. So we had many complaints about that for the show the next day and had to accommodate these people with new tickets. Worst fucking show I ever worked- from the crowd to his diva antics. Small man, literally and figuratively.

Rest in Peace, Prince(ss).

Well I'm not a woman [R282], and did that woman go to the police or file a police report about being sexually assaulted? What you described sounds more like something Louis CK did.

This was something I read online years ago, it could have been at the old Groupie Central website, which nutcase groupie Bebe Buell helped destroy. I have no idea if the woman filed a police report. Situations like this can get twisted, especially if she was a groupie, even people law enforcement assume groupies are game for anything. Real life is usually not a case of "Law & Order: SVU", most cops and detectives do not go the extra mile to really help crime victims, especially as Olivia Benson does!

I find all the positive stories about Henry Rollins odd, especially as most musicians are egotistical assholes. You've got to have a huge ego to get up on that stage, very few performers are ego-free. Don't assume punk rockers are any different than other types of musicians.

It may have been Usenet, R291, because I remember the story too. I was friends with a guy on Usenet who had gone to high school with Rollins (he had the signed yearbook to prove it so he wasn't lying) and he was LIVID about that story. But then he'd tell me stories about hanging out with Rollins which were supposed to impress me but just made Rollins sound like a fucking asshole -- punching people in the shoulder really hard "just for fun," stealing food and weed when crashing at people's houses, and something about how he insisted a friend get a tattoo and he'd pay for it but then he didn't and the friend got beat up because he didn't have enough cash on him. Ugh, that was 20 years ago so I can't remember details, unfortunately.

--Anonymous
replies 294Nov 30, 2017 12:37 PM +00:00

Second hand I've been told Rollins is now privately "bisexual" but had a hard time coming to terms with it because he was molested, and was told by a therapist the molestation screwed up his sexuality. I think he's gone public about the molestation.

The two times I met him, over 20 years ago, he was very porny flirtatious but clear it wasn't going anywhere. I'm a lot taller than he is and he made a point of saying how he outweighed me and I'd be easy to pin down (not that I'd have put up a fight). At the time I wondered if he was too drunk to fuck.

So still more questions than answers.

It's true he oozes masculinity. Even his heavy perspiration smell (it didn't fill the room, but it was noticeable when you're next to him) was pungent but sexual. And he's very touchy-feely for the ten minutes he sits right next to you. Then he moves along to someone else for another ten minutes. I remember noticing that he was nowhere near as physically affectionate with the many women in the room but I later heard he went home with one of them. This is more about the second time I met him.

I don't remember much about the first time. I was high on E and weed and booze, and blown away because he was talking to me, and he appeared to be sober, we briefly discussed Tanika Tikaram (sp) of all things.

My first job out of college was being a media escort and handling authors/artists on promotional tours.

I spent 5 days with Boy George while he was on a media tour for his book. (This was a period where he was sober and partnered.) He was this tall, hulking Irishman. He was a perfect gentleman. Really funny. Great with fans at book signings. He and his tour companion, the make-up artist Paul Starr, just hung out with my boyfriend and I wanting fo her a sense of what our life was like. Genuinely engaged. We ended up seeing the film Too Die For when it was opened, we had to crane our necks from the front row. Didn’t seem to mind at all. He was very reserved and quiet when he was out of face. It made the stories that came out later even sadder.

I joined a group of friends at a dive bar for drinks one night in the 1990s and Elliott Smith was among them. Ended up at the seat next to him. He was kind, sweet and engaged.

Krist Novoselic from Nirvana is a great human. The survivoring members of Nirvana both despise Courtney Love and seem to see her as responsible for Kurt Cobain’s death.

About 10 years ago, I was standing in line to get drinks at a party. A voice from behind mumbled, “Do you think this line is moving?” I said, yup and turned around a minute later to realize it was Stipe. We chatted about nothing in particular for a while, he seemed like a decent fellow. Accessible, low key, just one more person at a great party.

YES. Joni Mitchell even wrote a song about it. She hasn't publicly confirmed it, but it's so obviously him.

I spent 5 days with Boy George while he was on a media tour for his book. (This was a period where he was sober and partnered.) He was this tall, hulking Irishman. He was a perfect gentleman. Really funny. Great with fans at book signings.

Despite his various issues I've heard and experienced this too. My company did an instore for him during his Take It Like A Man book tour, too. I was away and didn't meet him but everyone raved about the experience.

I have friends who saw him on a solo tour and talked to him after the show. A few years later, they went to another show, and waited to talk to him again. He walked over to them and said, hey, I know you two, you were at such and such show. He didn't, like, remember their names, but he knew them, gave them a hug and said, Thanks for your support.

Sad that he's lost the plot a few times. I think he's a very smart and soulful person with brilliant taste, but sometimes he is truly his own worst enemy.

An old friend of mine -- male -- slept with Dave Matthews, so he has dabbled with men before. My friend was in his early 20's and breathtakingly handsome. He said that Matthews had some weird sock fetish, but I've forgotten the details. Maybe they were all lined up by color ? or he had a lot? I don't remember the details, just something about socks. I did not ask him details about the encounter, because I felt like he thought he said too much to even say that they slept together, so I didn't push him on the specifics. That was the first I had heard that Matthews played with men.

The rumor is, Jackson Browne wrote "These Days" specifically for Nico. Nico recorded the song way before Jackson did. Jackson played guitar on Nico's version.

Jackson was only 16 when he wrote the song! It's on Nico's "Chelsea Girl" LP which was released in 1967. Jackson recorded his own version of the song in 1973 and even Glen Campbell did a version, in 2008.

"These Days" has also been recorded by Paul Westerberg, Gregg Allman, St. Vincent, Fountains of Wayne, and Drake! Yes, that DRAKE!

IIRC, Stevie Winwood was addicted to heroin around the same time Eric Clapton was. I think they both started shooting up when they were in Blind Faith, that's why the band split.

Stevie was only about 15-16 when he was in the Spencer Davis Group and had a huge hit with "Gimme Some Lovin". Stevie formed Traffic in 1967. There were two early deaths in Traffic, Chris Wood died at 39 and Jim Capaldi died at 60.

Traffic singer/songwriter/guitarist Dave Mason is still around, he moved to California many years ago, not sure where he now resides. Dave was briefly in Fleetwood Mac, in 1985. Dave is 71 and Winwood is 69. Stevie is now married to an American woman from Tennessee, where he has a second home. They have four children. His eldest daughter Lily is a singer and she's worked with Stevie. They performed a duet of his song "Higher Love" in a Hershey commercial.

I heard a rumor and read in a book about bisexuality that Clapton is bisexual and had sex with Mick Jagger.

Most of these rockers from the 60s and 70s shared the same girlfriends, it was all quite odd. This was discussed at DL awhile back.

Most of the women were supposedly models and/or actresses, these women hopped from people like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Clapton, Jimmy Page etc. Jimmy Page's longtime live-in girlfriend, Charlotte Martin, was a French model who went from Clapton, to George Harrison to Page. Sounds like musical beds! I have to wonder why their circle of available women was so small.

Mick Fleetwood, from Fleetwood Mac was married to Pattie Boyd's sister Jenny, who dated, well, everyone! She was Fleetwodd's first wife. Jenny also married King Crimson drummer Ian Wallace, he died at 60 of esophageal cancer.

Some straight guys in the 70s actually tried to be bisexual.

Harry Reems said something to that effect. He admitted to it, said it was pleasurable, but he had to try too hard. He might have named names about other straight celebrities, Roger Moore seems to ring a bell but I could be wrong. He also said something about being invited to a few Hollywood bisexual swinger parties because all the scared guys wanted him there, they'd seen him in Deep Throat and somehow felt more comfortable with him fucking them, maybe his sense of humor.

Christopher George was a 70s actor who died of a heart condition in his 40s, or so they said. Other sources say he was a serious bisexual swinger who did too much poppers while fucking the actor who played Lionel on All in the Family.

R333, it might be one of the old groupie threads, maybe about Pamela Des Barres or Bebe Buell. I can't remember. I do remember there were a lot of trolls coming in to complain about "40+ year old gossip". There is always the option for the reality show viewers to skip rockstar threads!

I recall the thread kind of evolved, much like this one, this thread has changed into discussions of rockstars personal lives. That's how that old thread evolved into the discussion of the rockers girlfriends and wives. I found it so odd that the same group of women ended up dating and marrying a very specific group of rockers, who all knew each other.

There was even a discussion about George Harrison having an affair with Charlotte Martin when she moved in with him and Pattie Boyd. Charlotte had just split with Clapton, she hadn't yet hooked up with Jimmy Page. Charlotte is the mother of Page's oldest daughter, Scarlet, she's a photographer.

Yes it is very odd R337, also what's even more odd is that the wives of the musicians all knew that their husbands were cheating and hooking up with their friends' wives, and random women who they met while touring.

Lennon's whole "lost weekend" when he had sex and used lots of drugs with Yoko's assistant May Pang was fully known and advocated by Yoko.

I guess they all got used to the whole lifestyle of being a well known rock star's wife and cared more about money, status/fame, etc. and keeping that.

R338

When Yoko sent John off to California with Pang, she was having an affair of her own. John was still John Lennon, but he wasn't making albums. He indulged in drugs and drinking. Over time, he decided to start making music again. It seemed that he was trying to get his life back together. When Yoko caught wind of that she beckoned John back to New York. He did go back with May. He eventually ended up leaving May to go back to Yoko.

He could be just as much of a bastard to Yoko as he was to Cynthia. John and Yoko had friend's over, just a small gathering. He took an unattractive woman back to their bedroom, and proceeded to have very loud sex with her as the small get together continued, everyone trying to ignore what was quiet obvious. Even May Pang wasn't safe from his cruelty. He had a violent outburst when they were in LA. He was black out drunk and in a rage. He started to choke May, and Harry Nilsson of all people had to pry John off of May.

May Pang married Bowie's main producer Tony Visconti.

"After divorcing his first wife Siegrid, Visconti married the Welsh folk singer Mary Hopkin in 1971 before divorcing in 1981. The pair have two children, musicians Jessica Lee Morgan and Morgan Visconti. He married for a third time, in 1989, to May Pang, with whom he had two children before divorcing in 2000."

George was the unsung hero of The Beatles; his solo output reflects that. After the band broke up, Paul wrote embarrassing crap and John wrote amateurish nonsense. The treacly nonsense known as "Imagine" completely contradicts the lifestyle he led, full of Rolls-Royces, fur coats, and specially-designed rooms with controlled temperatures to store those furs. A few weeks later Culture Club started getting a lot of attention and the rest is history.

Good to hear he is still a diamond.

Two friends came across Bowie and ziggurat late at night on a street in Mayfair. Ended up drinking with them until the early hours. Good people apparently.

Paul was a douche. But, in his 'defense' if I were that beautiful up until my early 30s in arguably the biggest band of the 1960s I'd probably be a bit of a douche as well. Ha. I've always viewed Paul's douchecaneo behavior as enjoying sleeping around. He seems to have settled down with old age. I still believe that he is a pothead despite his claims otherwise after the birth of his daughter, Beatrice. Smart thinking on his part, one less thing for Heather Mills to try and use against him. She accused him of beating her. Which I tend to not believe.

I have to sort of give it to Paul. He was the only Beatle to 'defy' John and see Cynthia after the Lennon's separated and John went public with his relationship with Yoko. John made it clear that they were all to cut Cynthia out of their lives in the same manner he had with her. Paul went to go see her and Julian and on the way there came up with what would become 'Hey, Jude'. They commiserated over their break ups. Jane had left Paul after catching him in bed with another woman. Their on and off relationship finally ending after five years.

Donna Summer — met her 1996 at the bar in Elaine’s 1:30am. There were 8 people total in the restaurant at that hour. I was drunk and having fun, then suddenly looked up and I was face to face with this tall, gorgeous woman (her hair was long and straight and she was stunning). When I realized who it was, I SCREAMED her name, basically in her face. I’ve loved her music so much and just freaked out. There is a story in John Phillips' very...vivid and odd...1980s memoir about Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall coming to Long Island for a visit. Things declined rapidly as Phillips was a raging mess and Genevieve Waite stole Hall's jewelry. Hall and Jagger ended up pulling his two young children out of the home and hiding them from the duo because they were too drugged/drunk to even function. Phillips charged over to where Jagger was staying and screamed that he wanted his kids back. Jagger refused. When this didn't work, Phillips went home and tried to burn down his house in anger. I think Jagger needs to keep it in his pants, but this did at least show that he had some sort of sense of right and wrong...In other news, the Phillips bio is absolutely insane and good for dishy rock stories.

When I realized who it was, I SCREAMED her name, basically in her face. I’ve loved her music so much and just freaked out. She was incredibly sweet - she stopped and talked with me, her entourage waiting patiently behind her.

The same thing happened to me with Bette Midler at a buffet table. She asked me "Is this stuff any good?" I realized who she was, muttered something like "I think so" and then kind of exited stage left. Just left her standing there. Very embarrassing.

Like R126 knows anything about Kate Bush. I've been a huge fan of Kate since I was a teen and I've never heard anything bad about her. She seems to be a very private person which is the reason people think she's weird. BTW, who cares if she really is weird. She can be whatever the hell she wants.

She's also written one of the most beautiful gay songs I know, Kashka from Baghdad.

Re "These Days." I read an interview with Jackson Browne in which he said he had long forgotten about the song, and was reminded of it when Greg Allman recorded it on one of his albums. Jackson learnt the song form the Allman cd, and recorded it for a subsequent cd of his own. I can believe that he had forgotten the song, especially considering he was so young when he wrote it. I've never heard the original Nico version; I wonder how far it deviates from the version Jackson recorded himself.

R243. I heard the same exact thing about Whitney. My friend said she would walk in at very odd hours during her night shift, in a fur coat, reeking of cigarettes but would start with small talk with anyone from my friend behind the register or it could’ve been the cleaner mopping the floor. Before long you’d hear her very loud, distinctive, cackling laughter as Whitney chatted with a bunch of strangers as if they were old friends. She once told my friend that she was a true night owl and does most of her sleeping during the day.

I once knew somebody in the very tiny Beatles inner circle. They told me tons of stories, wish I could remember more. Some of my favourites: during the 65 US tour (think it was in Texas), Lennon fucked two 14 year old twins at the same time. The parents were supposedly outraged and shook down Epstein for, get this, $2K.

Also, from Hamburg till he got married to Linda, McCartney knocked up tons of women, most (but not all) ended in abortions. He and Linda would occasionally share a woman in their bed. They both liked black girls.

George was the resident sex maniac though. Slept with hundreds/thousands.

Nothing on Ringo.

I used to be part of a college Amnesty International group from '87-'89. When U2 came to town there was a rumor that Bono had hooked up with a girl from our school's group and one from another nearby. I figured it was wishful thinking until I went to a nationwide conference. A lot of females had the same story. We had something of an "in" to shows, being part of Amnesty. So he'd pick a girl for the night, act like she was getting special treatment by riding to a show/event/whatever with him, then make his move in the limo. Always and only in the limo.

Paul and Linda sharing women is interesting. What makes it interesting is that they both had a penchant for black women.

About Ringo, the only thing I can add is that when the Beatles toured in the early 60s with Little Richard. This was during Little Richard's 'I'm a Christian and refuse to play my rock n' roll tunes', Little Richard's young lover Billy Preston was also on the tour. Heck of a piano player that guy. Little Richard had a thing for Ringo, unbeknownst to Ringo when he was invited back to one of his musical idol's hotel rooms. He tried to put the moves on Ringo, but he rebuffed Little Richard's advances. I always get a tickle out of that story. Yes, I know sexual assault isn't funny, but the visual of short statured Ringo Starr having rebuff an amorous and fey Little Richard is funny to me.

His long running marriage to Barbara Bach went through it's fair share of rough patches. One major incident that was the catalyst for checking himself into rehab and getting sober is one of his blackouts. He got so drunk that the next day when he sobered up he was horrified to discover just how badly he'd beaten Barbara Bach that he knew he needed to get help. It does make me wonder if he ever laid a hand on his first wife, Maureen. He grew up in a home of functioning alcoholics. When he made it big the first proper home he bought with his Beatles money out in Surrey, Ringo had a bar constructed in the home, which he named, I believe 'The Flying Cow'.

Epstein would've done anything for the Beatles. He would pay off girls to have abortions or to have them go away and name one of the Beatles as the father of their baby. He was a shitty manager in regards to business/financial affairs and left a mess behind after his death.

Worked for Madonna during her Drowned World tour. I actually wasn't a big fan/stan (at the time, was much more into stuff like Interpol, Low...the last days of decent indie rock, in my opinion) and the pay was nice, so it wasn't a life-changer. I didn't interact with M too much, but the fleeting few times that I did, she was curt, impatient, snappy, brash, and seemed overall very stern and harsh. I know this may not sound like a big surprise, but what got me is that she came across as an inherently VERY unhappy woman--like she had gotten herself into this overwhelming mess of a superstardom career, had no way out, knew her obligations and promises, and got more than she bargained for. It seemed a real burden for her. She was always a real professional and gave the audiences exactly what they came for, but backstage, just a miserable woman who was over it but had virtually no other options. She likely would have wanted to just be with her husband and kids at the time, but even I was hearing murmurs that their marriage was dysfunctional.

Luckily, I didn't care much and did my job. Just found it interesting that such a supremely famous, wealthy, adored woman could be so entrenched in unhappiness and could lack such grace towards a gigantic crew making all of this happen for her.

R428

There are different stories regarding Stuart Sutcliffe's death. The one his sister tells about Lennon being the one to kick him in the head during a fight. The other one being that after a show The Beatles were attacked by some jealous guys in the audience and in the scuffle he was kicked in the head. If people think John and Paul were infatuated with one another, they really should take a closer look at John and Stuart.

John really did looked up to Stuart and value his opinion, talent (painting), and style. Yet, at the same time he and the others, especially Paul really ripped into Stuart and took the mickey out of him. Stuart being the good natured fellow that he was didn't speak up to defend himself.

Stuart's association with Astrid and her friends and adopting their style with the long hair and bangs and moving away from the 50s look inspired the others to do the same.

Cynthia is another interesting character in the Beatles story. She never really gets her due. She wrote two auto-biographies about her life. The first one was a money grab that she was pressured into by her then husband to write. In it, she didn't mention John hitting her. He was still alive at this point when that book was written and released. The second auto-biography came much later in life, long after John's murder.

She spoke about him being possessive, jealous and demanding of her during their time in college. He dictated how she was to dress and style her hair. He also told her she was not allowed to smoke cigarettes. When she went out with him and his friends she was to be seen by not heard. She only mentioned as you noted in Howard Stern interview that John hit her once. He was apologetic about the violent outburst and never did it again. I think she might've been taking the high road and left out other incidents of physical and verbal abuse.

Another college girlfriend, Thelma Pickles before John started going out with Cynthia also stated that he was difficult to be with because he was an angry young man. She recalled one incident in which they were at a college party. He'd taken her off to another room, which was dark and where other couples were fooling around. He wanted to take it further, and when she rebuffed him he smacked her. She went onto say that she was relieved when the relationship with John ended.

I saw Cyndi Lauper sing Amazing Grace a cappella at a small theatre on Bleecker Street. It was for a staged reading of a piece about prisoners who were wrongfully convicted. Any information on Julian. I've heard that he is a genuinely nice guy. Cynthia did an excellent job raising him. He turned into a fine young man.

Not surprised about James. For someone whose father was such a babe, James is such a fun house parody of his father. He has emotional issues/depression. Which may account somewhat for his shitty behavior. He was the most effected out of Paul and Linda's children after her death.

Sort of surprised about Dhani though. I wouldn't have thought that he'd been stuck up. If you're going to go into music he should take into consideration that their is a curiosity factor of fan's of your father and his music turning up. Sure, that can be annoying, but suck it up. You're the one that decided to make a go out of music.

Sean also seems like he'd be a pretentious cunt. However, I've had a couple of conversations with him through private messages on Tumblr. Not sure if he still uses that anymore because I don't. Any more gossip on sting or the police members - Andy summers and Stewart Copeland?

Nothing truly scandalous, the usual assholery which happens when a band goes from struggling to superstars in the matter of literal months. It involves lots of cheating on their wives and drugs, particularly cocaine.

I remember first seeing them at CBGB's, then the Bottom Line and Diplomat Hotel, literally a few months later, they sold out Madison Square Garden and did a secret gig at The Ritz (Webster Hall) under the name Three Blond Men or something..

Sting left his first wife Frances, mother of his two eldest children, for the much hated Trudie Styler. Trudie was his first wife's former best friend. They were in The Royal Shakespeare Company together. Trudie even went as far as moving next door to Sting and Frances in London! This is all old news to Sting fans.

Stewart Copeland was romantically involved with prog rockers Curved Air vocalist Sonja Kristina beginning in 1974, they were married from 1982 to 1991. Copeland was the Curved Air drummer. Copeland adopted Kristina's son Sven from a prior relationship, and they had two more sons together, Jordan and Scott.

In 1981, Copeland fathered a son, Patrick, with Marina Guinness, daughter of Irish author Desmond Guinness. Copeland currently lives in Los Angeles with his second wife, Fiona Dent, with whom he has three daughters (Eve, Grace and Celeste). Last year, I saw Stewart on a episode of Salvage Dawgs! He was selling his drums. It seemed kind of weird.

Andy Summers had a tumultuous relationship with his second wife, they divorced then ended up remarrying. Her name is Kate Lunken, they married in 1973 , had one daughter in 1978, Layla Zoe Summers, an actress. They divorced in 1981, remarried in 1985. In 1987, Kate and Andy's twin sons Maurice X and Anton Y were born.

Andy's first wife was Robin Lane, a singer songwriter, who had some success isn the late 1970s with her band The Chartbusters. Robin the was the daughter of Ken Lane, songwriter and pianist for Dean Martin! From 1968 to 1970, she was married to Andy.

Andy is a bit older than the rest of the Police, though he still looked quite young when the band formed. Andy is now 74! Andy currently resides in the Los Angeles

To me, the nicest of the Copeland brothers, was the late Ian Copeland. I worked in the music biz, Ian was always decent, funny and cordial, even to fans. At one point, after his divorce, he dated Marianne Faithfull as well as Courtney Cox! Ian dated actress Courtney while she was working for his company Frontier Booking International as a receptionist. Ian died of melanoma at age 57.

Police manager Miles Copeland was an asshole as well as Sting's bitter former manager Kathryn Schenker, what a nasty POS. I don't know who this bitch thought she was, but she was nasty to everyone. She was always in attack mode. She looked like a Rottweiler, if the shoe fits.

In fact, there's an encounter, on film, between her and Sting about the clothes his backup singers should wear during The Dream of the Blue Turtles tour. There is bit of the argument in the documentary of the tour, but most of it was cut out. Man, was that woman a nasty sour bitch. IIRC, Fiona Apple used to be her kid's babysitter!

The best story I ever heard about Copeland was that he used to play drums with his cymbals positioned almost vertically so his view of Sting would be blocked; didn't want to even look at him.

The same person who told me this (he was in the music biz) also mentioned that he was in a corner store beneath a recording studio when one of the guys from A Flock of Seagulls came in, wearing sunglasses. The FOS guy pointed to a Twix bar and said to the clerk, in his thick British growl, "Give me one of those motherfuckers." This story had me howling for months, for some reason.

R454, I knew Kathy Schenker! I interned at her company while in college. yes. she liked to scream a lot, i though she was going through menopause at the time or something, her moods were nuts. but overall, very nice to me. And Fiona Apple was the best friend of her babysitter and that's how she got discovered. Fiona Apple was also very difficult, always late to everything, a lot of problems. I think she was raped growing up or something...don't remember, been so long.

Kathy was PR for many, many top music artists at the time. Her firm repped Janet Jackson, Melissa Etheridge, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, the list is very long.

wow, so kathy is no longer working with sting? they worked together for a long time!

I've read countless times the Sting and Stewart Copeland couldn't stand each other, for various reasons. Andy Summers wasn't really involved in the rift and was more of a neutral observer who knew he had a good gig with the Police. For all the alleged tension and conflict, they managed to have a great career as a band. In fact, breaking up early only helps their legacy since they don't have a weak album among their five releases. They were smart enough to put their shit aside for their massively successful (third highest grossing) reunion tour in 2007-08; and were just as smart for not getting back together for good.

Copeland was with the drug band Oysterhead, which really were not that good and had Trey Anastasio on guitar and Les Claypool on bass, and they all used way too many drugs together. There's a video of them at the Bonnaroo music festival and Trey and Les are on coke or dope, and Copeland is on Ecstasy.

You forgot to mention that not only did Courteney Cox date Ian Copeland, he was her step cousin as his uncle had married her mother years earlier. It was this connection that brought her from AL to Hollywood after high school.

Heard interesting rumor: Sting and Trudie are now grandparents as their eldest girl had a baby recently (Sting of course already a grandfather by his older kids). There's worry from her west coast friends the guy she's with is tied to Scientology and has made plays to snag Mickey and the family.

is it true Clapton is seriously ill and not long for this world? That's been the rumor.

Someone upthread said Roger Daltrey is a great guy without scandal. The first part is true, but he's one of the biggest womanizers when on tour and that's saying something given his peers. Was known to have his own suite of rooms on the '82 US tour where he'd party and screw groupies while his wife and kids slept next door. Very open marriage.

Bono also a dog, I had friends from school (late teens) who partied with U2 on tour in the late 80s, Bono was all over them. Ali also gets her kicks, loves the ladies, that's a longtime open marriage that's managed to work.

Steve Winwood and his family live mainly in the UK even though the wife is American, their oldest daughter married Prince Charles's nephew (Camilla's nephew Ben Eliot) so they're related to the Royal Fam which I find crazy.

I've heard about Trudie's bisexuality many years ago. A friend's close friend was a guest at Sting and Trudie's former CPW duplex apartment, at the time, the woman was dating Sting's guitarist Dominic Miller. On the way to the Grammy's they were all in one limo, Trudie started rubbing the woman's knee and trying to make her way up to the woman's crotch, Dom's GF wasn't interested. When Trudie didn't get what she wanted, she threw Dom and the GF out of their apartment. Trudie was so pissed off that she was being rejected. Trudie never mentioned to the GF that Sting was part of the deal. The GF wasn't bi and she sure wasn't interested in swinging. Dom ended up marrying someone else.

Trudie Styler comes from an extremely dysfunctional working class family. The poster who said she worked as a call girl nailed it. She somehow got involved in the art house scene and then became friends with Sting's first wife. I've heard that she lied about any qualifications that she had and was basically very uneducated grifter type when she hooked up with Sting. Think Yoko Ono in how she won Sting over, except she was more careful and weeded her way into the first wife's life before she made her move. Sting was probably bored with his first marriage anyway but she took advantage of the situation and made herself amenable to his every whim until they got married. After they were married she became more controlling but not stupid. She allows him to sleep around when he wants and he was even photographed coming out of a brothel in Germany one time. She is apparently ashamed of her roots and has nothing to do with her family up north, she also puts on a fake accent and has a back story about her work history and education. According to people who have worked for her she is completely delusional, and likes to pretend she's part of the upper crust horsey set. When she and Sting are at home she insists on having a full complement of butlers and maids, and when they have dinner they have to be served by a full complement of wait staff.

Gene Simmons is the asshole, r132.

Besides being a conservative Republican who supported the Iraq war and ANY human rights violation Israel wants to commit, Paul Stanley and others have reported that he basically ditched the band in the '80s, didn't contribute to songwriting any longer so he could pursue acting and other commercial scams. But Simmons took songwriting credit, anyway, and wanted to be paid ever-higher sums for staying in KISS, even though he was absentee.

He also lied and backstabbed Paul ad the rest of the band repeatedly. Lied to the press a lot. Manipulative, arrogant pig.

Simmons also insists on sexual affairs outside his marriage, but forbids his wife from doing the same -- they went on a talk show to argue about it.

Read Paul Stanley's books about it:

THX for the Sting & Trudie gossip R484. I heard a bit about Trudie's working class roots, she grew up without a toilet in her home, actually so did Bryan Ferry, like Sting, he was born in Newcastle.

Trudie must have had some acting ability, how the hell was she a member of The Royal Shakespeare Company, that's where she met Sting's first wife, Irish actress Frances Tomelty.

From the few early Police bios I read years ago, Sting never wanted to marry his first wife, she got pregnant with his eldest son, so he married her. Frances was also his ticket out of Newcastle. Sting met her when his band was hired for a play she appeared in which toured Newcastle. At that point, Frances was the more famous of the two, he headed straight to London with Frances.

That's a really good find! I'd never heard that story. George's libido didn't go down with age. He was a horny old guy.

He's in a book written by a call girl to the stars, which I can't remember the name. She said that she blew George Harrison and the entire time he played a ukulele. He didn't say anything to her the entire time. After he finished, he said 'Thanks, love.' and left.

Also, in the 60s George Harrison was obsessed with Bob Dylan. He even wrote a song about him 'I'd Have You Any Time.'

R483

Even before the death of John's mother, he was still a little shit. Her death definitely added to it. However, after his Aunt Mimi essentially took him from his mother, he grew up pretty comfortable in a good neighborhood. A step up from the other Beatles. Paul and George lived in council housing. Ringo grew up in a slum called the Dingle. I'm convinced that John had some sort of mental health issue in his youth that became worse with fame and all its trappings.

That was the documentary I mentioned upthread, where Sting and ex manager Kathy had an argument over his female backup singers outfits, that part was severely edited for the film.

The documentary was called "Bring On the Night". Sting had an excellent group of musicians on that tour, all were established jazz musicians, including Branford Marsalis, who was living in Brooklyn at the time. Branford's first wife Theresa gave birth during the tour and Sting was pissed when Branford had to take few days off to visit her and their new baby.

I saw Sting three times during his Radio City Music Hall concerts during that tour. You might dislike Sting, but he always puts on a great show. The best Police concert I ever attended was at The Palladium, before the theater became an infamous disco. The band were still hungry and their music was excellent. Think there's a bootleg of the gig out there. It was broadcast live on WNEW-FM. It was one of the best concerts I'd ever attended in my life and I've been to hundreds of shows.

So many of the famous readily forget, if they didn't have fans, they wouldn't have their careers. Let alone, their millions.

I remember reading about the Queen coming to Newcastle, Sting was a child. He was standing outside waving, the Queen looked at him. Sting said he wanted to be like the Queen, getting all the adulation. Think this was in his autobiography.

No one should be surprised by the revelations of the famous, you need to have a tremendous ego to be in show business.

Robert Zimmerman/Bob Dylan can either be apparently really nice and professional, or be really cold and distant.

Chris Robinson of the black crowes is major asshole, believes he's actually talented, and his brother Rich is considered to be a lot more nice or friendly but not by much.

Miles Davis was apparently full of himself, conceited, self absorbed, and would beat up his wives/girlfriends while on coke/heroin, but this isn't some secret or something that should be shocking to anyone.

Ryan Adams is a huge asshole, drama queen, and is not even that good of a musician but hipsters love his music.

All of the members of Metallica are known to be douchebags and are really rude/mean to people setting up their stage, doing sound, lighting, etc.

Donald Fagen is a total asshole, thinks he's so incredibly intelligent and his music is sophisticated, still uses drugs, and beats his wife.

Robert Plant comes across as a decent guy, however I've read numerous accounts of him being an entitled prick who's used to getting his ass kissed. I remember reading one story that while his wife was in hospital undergoing surgery he was out hitting the nightclubs and trying to pick up women.

I remember reading one story that while his wife was in hospital undergoing surgery he was out hitting the nightclubs and trying to pick up women.

While Maureen was hospitalized after their auto accident with head trauma, Robert had a badly damaged Achilles and broken leg and was in a cast for months. He was pretty badly injured as well so both were hospitalized immediately after.

Once he was up and hobbling around though, Peter Grant and business managers whisked him out of the UK and back to the US to keep his 'tax exile' status intact. This while Maureen was still slowly recuperating and his kids as well. They allegedly holed him up in Malibu and also took him out clubbing on the Strip in LA for diversion as he was totally miserable. This is probably what you're referring to r533.

Didn't Plant and Maureen's car accident happen in Greece?

Their son Karec had that mysterious illness, which killed him, during the lest leg of one of Zep's US tours. Karec's death also sealed the death of Led Zeppelin. Well actually, Bonham's death was basically the final nail in their coffin. Sorry for the death jokes.

Yoko Ono, the biggest poseur associated with the rock world. She was a celeb hanger-on and wannabe from way back. She'd deliberately get pregnant, then have abortions. She did give birth to Kyoko/Rosemary, but from infancy would abandon her, leaving her alone inside the apartment on the floor (covered with newspapers to soak up her feces/urine) of while Yoko was out trying to make celebrity connections.

When she decided to try to bag a Beatle, she wasn't choosy. She targeted Paul McCartney first. He wasn't interested and half-jokingly suggested she try John. She met John, saw her chance and seized it.

The reason the rest of the band hated her so much was because, once she'd hooked up with John, she decided her input on the Beatles' music was every bit as valid as theirs, even though she had no rock music background and no real history as a musical artist (goat yodeling doesn't count as music). So she'd arrogantly tell the most famous rock musicians in the world what they should be doing with their music.

The best thing that ever happened to Yoko was John's death. Finally, her whiny bastard of a husband and primary competition for the spotlight was gone. She was rich, famous, and free...and suddenly, instead of ridicule, she was revered as the Bereft Widow of the Great Man.

Barf.

I'd have to argue that his death wasn't the best thing for Yoko. She probably hates having to play the grieving window honoring 'Saint John' 40 plus years on. Sure, it's a good gig, coasting on the good will afforded to you because of your husband's murder, but damn it must get old. Plus, she knows what a shit John was in his everyday life to life.

r536 I've followed Zep for yrs and never heard about that. Maureen has serious head trauma after the '75 accident and may have had to have other surgeries after. Robert had to spend a lot of time out of the UK for tax reasons back than and may have been away. But if you follow Zep you would knew that after their son died in '77 he barely left her sight, until the band ended in '82. He was home with her in the UK from '77 to '80 when they did the last Euro tour, and she was on the road w/him for that as was Charlotte Martin for many of the dates (from pap photos at the time).

From what Ive read/inferred, she may have even been with him in Windsor where they were rehearsing when Bonham died. Jason B. has said many times the call re his dad's death came from Maureen, 'who was there' when it happened.

I know Courtney Love is low-hanging fruit by this point (actually, always has been), but she isn't so much of a jerk as she is a very fucked-up, troubled woman who completely agreed to burlesque her "angry punk rock widow" persona for a public image and for publicity. She is what we used to call a poseur. Courtney always wanted to be famous and did what she had to do in order to latch onto those who were going somewhere. I'm going to spare you the story we all know about the Widow Cobain and the theories about having him killed; that's for many other threads. In the 90s, when she was having "the most cake," she amped up her persona because that is what she was paid to do, and what she was told to do, and she was ready and willing because it meant the spotlight, it meant notoriety, the likes of which she always wanted. Courtney actually wanted to be a famous actress before music came along (kind of like Madonna). Yet in order to deal with her innate trouble and the mess of fame she found her way into, she self-medicated so much that she ruined any chance of making something of herself; she never had the stuff. For moments here and there, yes, but she is so undersocialized and crass and mental that she could never have worked with the chances she was handed. Courtney is a very messed-up, coarse, uncouth, tragic person who is actually a gross version of modern-day reality stars. I honestly don't know how else to describe her.

Ummm, not a "rock star" but my mom was a private duty nurse for Noel Coward when he was hospitalized in Chicago in the late 1950s. She was just out of nursing school and worked on the floor at Northwestern Hospital that got all the famous people. Said Coward was her favorite. He gave her a silk scarf and advice on men.

When I read his diaries, he mentioned her! Can't remember the direct quote, but he said she was very pretty. My mom dined out on that for years: "Noel Coward called me pretty!"

I never met Walter, r529, but I can tell you that his sister Wendy and niece Danny (Danielle) are batshit crazy New Age nuts. At least they were when I knew them. They were customers at my friend's used book store in the Valley.

A bird flew in and built a nest in the fan above Danny's bed. It shit on her bed every day until the eggs hatched, then the babies chirped all the damn time and also shit on Danny and her bed.

Wendy got mad when I told her giant, untrained dog not to jump on me, and kicked a potential date out after he pushed her dog off of him. Danny is a talented musician (oboe) and a tolerable actress, but an incredibly manipulative brat, too. Both are sweet people, but very passive aggressive.

Wendy used to help sell tshirts at the SD reunion shows. If you went to any, you probably saw her- she's a tiny brunette who always looks startled. She always spoke highly of Walter, but made him sound autistic when she described his lack of common sense and inability to judge people's intentions.

Here's what little I've seen living in LA for too many years:

Francis Bean Cobain was like a kid in "Family Ties". Wacky 'groovy' parents so had to act as the de facto parent most of her life (ex: at 12 y.o. putting her wasted mother to bed theb hiding her drugs, that sorta thing). Never had a childhood.

Bowie. Great guy. Almost too great whereas people (particularly those Tin Machine rubes) took advantage of his talents and good graces.

Elvis Costello: Nasty piece of work. Enjoys being unhappy. Patronizing and condescending to everyone around him and ten times worse towards the "little people" around him. Apparently a great record collection but an absolute shit human being.

Brian Setzer: Full of himself. Somebody please find a reason.

Eddie Vedder: Stuck in that tortured artist role after Cobain died but without the slightest fart of talent. Self-serious even when he's not being self-serious.

Glen Frey: Did MASSIVE amounts of drugs (mostly coke and weed) until the day he died.

Bangles: An eighth-grade clique that turned against each other. Hoffs looks down at the others as untalented, lucky yet ugly cows.

Squeeze: Glenn Tilbrook: Nicest, most genuine guy you ever want to meet. Chris Difford: Not Glenn Tilbrook.

Zeppelin had their fave groupies in the US. They never had their US groupies fly back to the UK with them, at home the guys were with their wives and partners.

There were a few groupies who traveled with them, the much talked about underage LA groupie Lori Maddox and Texan Audrey Hamilton, who was actually married when Plant brought her on tour. She was very androgynous, to me she looked like a teenage boy. Audrey claimed to be in an "open marriage", her husband thought it was OK that she just up and toured with Zeppelin.

One of Zep's New York based groupies died of AIDs, it's a miracle no one in Zep ever got sick. From what I heard, they sure didn't use condoms.

Plant with Audrey, she was 20 when they met. She looked much younger.

R569, the groupie wasn't famous, she was actually a very good looking blond woman Plant used to hook up with in NYC, she was under the radar. She modeled for awhile. She actually had a job. If she 'toured' with Robert, it was only local, on the East Coast, just for a few days.

The only reason I knew about her, I knew a photographer who was close friends with her. I shouldn't have said she was a groupie, because she actually wasn't, she was basically Plant's East Coast hook-up for several years.

I think Page was the only Zep member injecting drugs, he was on heroin and coke for quite awhile, he was even injecting the coke.

John Paul Jones cheated on his wife like the rest of them, but it didn't appear he was as much into the drugs as the rest of them, that probably explains why he still looks pretty good, while Plant and Page look awful.

She's not androgynous, she's very pretty going by that pic.

Maybe androgynous isn't quite the word, boyish? To me she looks like an attractive young teenage boy of that era who had long hair.

Audrey was very young looking, which I found creepy. Zep seemed to be attracted to underage groupies. Audrey was not the usual type of groupie Zep were attracted to, they were usually with groupies who looked like street hookers. They groupie were very young, but very garish and slutty looking. Page was well into his 30s when he was with Lori Maddox, who was supposedly 14 or 15. The tradition continues, he's 73 and his current GF is in her 20s.

That crazy blond LA groupie, the one who died of brain cancer, Sable Starr, was another of their faves, she was 14 when she started hanging out at Rodney's English Disco. Sable claimed to have fucked, Bowie, Jeff Beck, Jagger, Iggy Pop, Rod Stewart, Marc Bolan, Plant and Alice Cooper. She claimed to have lost her virginity at 12 with the late Spirit guaitist Randy California.

Sable came from a wealthy family, her parents basically threw money at her, they allowed her to tour with rockers. After Zep and everyone else she fucked while in LA, she ran away from home at 16, to NYC, to live with The NY Dolls late guitarist Johnny Thunders.

Sable then moved on to the punk rock scene, she spent a lot of time in NYC with The Dead Boys, Richard Hell and Nancy Spungen, Sable was a hot mess. By the early 1980s, she was no longer a groupie. Before her death at 51, she was a card dealer at a Nevada casino. Sable supposedly had two kids, I have no idea who the father was.

Sable, Johnny Thunders and Iggy Pop.

Richard ended up going to jail, for something completely unrelated.

Led Zep certainly surrounded themselves with shady characters The rumor was, their late manager, that obese slob Peter Grant, was an actual gangster before he started managing bands. Richard Cole was shady too. I'm sure lots of groupies were raped by Zep's road crew over the years.

While looking Audrey up I found this:

It did pull at the heart strings a little when she said, " I should have waited, I don't know." She said they talked for a while in the 80's and she did confirm that "Hot Dog" was written for her. She was fully aware of the heavy drugs on that tour, and when I asked about Jimmy, she just said: "Jimmy was a full blown heroin addict." She told me that Bonzo was very serious and stern when he told her aboard the first flight: "DON'T LEAVE MY SIDE" and "Be very careful" She didn't seem to keen on John Paul Jones, and said the feeling was mutual. She went as far to say that Jones "hated" her, and called her a "home-wrecker" She told me the only time Plant asked her not to walk off the plane with him was when they got to NY. There was a very strong feeling from talking with her that the romance was very real, and very passionate. Funny story from the interview was her recollection of Jimmy's obsession with transvestites. She said Robert would point out the transvestites hanging around Jimmy’s suite while on the tour. (Royal Orleans)???

How is this for a whacky Yoko Ono story...during her pregnancy in the late 60s (Which ultimately ended in a miscarriage) she was ordered to 'bed rest' because of her high risk pregnancy. John was recording with the Beatles, they had a bed set up at the recording story for Yoko to be there. When she didn't like something she would say, "No Beatles, do it this way."

Here's a bat shit John Lennon story for you...in the audio dairies that he record in 1979. Which I think snippets of can be found on YouTube. Lennon mentioned an incident with his mother, Julia. When he was a teenager, he went to visit her. They laid in her bed. He touched her breasts. She didn't swat his hand away or tell him to stop. He said he was too much of a coward to try for more. Keep in mind that he never thought anyone would hear these ramblings. So, I tend to think he wanted to fuck his mother.

It seems like a lot of the very successful (note I didn’t say ‘good’) popular rock bands have a 50/50 split between asshole members & halfway decent ones. It’s like a Golden Ratio, almost.

Motley Crue is a great example. Nikki Sixx owns this fucking thread all by himself, ask anyone over the age of 40 who knows rock or who grew up in L.A. Or go read the Vanity threads here for more horror stories. Vince Neil wasn’t much better, didn’t one of his wives accuse him of beating her? But then to make up for those two you have that adorably goofy walking-STD Tommy Lee, and Mick goddamn Mars himself I.e. the nicest dude in rock (and the one with greatest cause to be unhappy, between depression & illness),

I'm being unfair, the other thread's fantastic. Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane... This one's Beatles and Sting.

Both are pretty curt on Costello.

Saw Squeeze at many downtown NYC venues before they became more popular, they had awful taste in groupies. They were always with odd looking women,

At one venue, which would later become Irving Plaza, the guys were with some of the weirdest looking women I'd ever seen in my life. I saw Jools, Glenn and Chris with very unattractive groupies, One was very skinny with very short hair and huge implants, the others were so nondescript, I don't even remember what they looked like. The guys were parading these women around as if they were beauty queens. Rumor has it that Glenn is hung.

I met a make up artist who said rock star adjacent Pam Anderson was really sweet and Cher was very cool.

r587 no disrespect to Mick Mars, because I know he's been through a lot (it hurts just to see him poor soul), but he had no business being anywhere near that scene. He was unattractive, untalented and had absolutely no charisma, in a 'rock star' sense. I forget who it was, their producer or an A&R guy who used to go nuts over Mars being in the band because it was hard to work with him because he couldn't play for shit. He was a decent guy though, but it is easier to do when you're not out front, or the talent behind the band (like Stephen Stills).

John Lowery is like that--another great guy who drafted behind bigger artists and that's probably why no one apparently has a bad word to say about him. I was going to mention him in the "celebrities you'd be devastated to learn had a scandal around them" thread, but he's not really a celebrity.

Never heard that Beals rumour about Sting, but, who knows, he's cheated on both wives and has an open marriage with Trudie.

Elvis and Nick Adams were an odd couple. Adams's daughter published a book Nick wrote about his trips to Graceland where he and Elvis would share a room. Adams was getting a lot of publicity because of The Rebel TV show and Elvis was very impressed by him. There has always been a rumor they had an affair.

Elvis's other crush was Tom Jones. There an awkward encounter in the bathroom:

"He was standing there cleaning up, looking in the mirror and so I'm naked and he's half-naked; his pants are down by his ankles," Jones tells U.S. chat show host Conan O'Brien. "He's singing this song to me.

"I'm trying to towel down and Elvis is singing... and then of course I said, 'Elvis, you know your pants...' and he went, 'Red!', because he used to have a bodyguard called Red... so Red busts through the door, thinking there's something wrong... and he says, 'My pants, man...'"

The minder, Red West, then proceeded to help Elvis squeeze back into his skintight leather trousers.

I read an article about one of Elvis's girlfriends after he broke up with Pricilla. She was lying in bed with Elvis, nothing much was happening so she got up, went into the next room and said to his gofers that she believed that Elvis liked guys better than girls.

He seemed to be at least bi back in the day but couldn't come out at that time period.

R565 I was backstage with my brother waiting to watch a band his friend was performing in. Circa 1980. The Bangles (then known as The Bangs) were up on stage first. No one knew them yet. No record deal or hits. After their set, they ran to a dressing room I was sitting in. Susanna Hoffs collapsed against the wall and yelled, "We were awful!" I couldn't stop laughing. They really were awful, but at least they knew it.

I'm a Canadian and I read a biography of Celine Dion written by a fellow French Canadian like her from the province of Quebec. He stated that her manager Rene Angelil (and future husband-to-be) believed that she had a great voice and started to mentor her - he also started to sleep with her when she was underage, only 15 at the time, and him being a married man being 25 years older than her.

He saw her as the goose that could lay the golden eggs and eventually asked his wife for a divorce so that he could marry Celine. He gave his wife anything she wanted, including unlimited money, in order to keep her mouth shut. Whatever he and Celine got financially he shared with his ex-wife and they were always on good terms. There was a method to his madness.

I'm listening to Pete Townsend's autobiography, and he says Mick Jagger was the only guy he ever wanted to fuck. I find that really hard to believe, considering Pete said one chapter earlier that he kinda hoped the Who's first manager would try to seduce him.

But it's amazing how many of those British rock stars/bands (and Jimmy Hendrix) were all in London, all hanging out and watching each other's shows in the early-mid 60s. The Who, Stones, Beatles, Kinks, Pink Floyd, Jimmy Hendrix, Clapton, Steve Winwood, etc etc etc.

She didn't have much of a figure, but I think Led Zeppelin liked them thin.

That's what makes her look boyish- not much hip curvature in that pic.
