That would have to be a lot of Xanax.

replies 10Nov 15, 2017 9:13 PM +00:00

r9 I hope not, but from the beginning he was always a gloomy person, and all the internet abuse must not have helped.

And as a very young celebrity, I guess he did google himself.

I really didn’t think DL was hard on him, all things considered.

That's how I feel r14. We might have been critical but we were hearing his voice. We wanted him to do well.

Other sites were downright hateful. Some telling him to off himself. That never happened here.

He comes from a family of academics including a Harvard professor grandfather and a professor father, teacher mother, so it’s not like he had a bad start or was stupid. Depression is a bitch. As is the nihilistic enabler fucks who romantise and profit off it

I really believe he had potential. if only he have focused on the art (his output fell off with his last effort) he couldve gone on to be a great artist (or a zeitgeist defining pop cultural figure) — this generations Kurt Cobain (or maybe he kinda just achieved exactly that in this social media insta fame world)

This is his best work. He sound is haunted and doomed but never cynical, and reaching out for love

replies 81Nov 16, 2017 2:09 AM +00:00

...Wow. So that British punk's friend a globally known artist dies and his first thought is "how can I make a joke about this"? What goes through a person's head to think that's a good idea. It's ghoulishly psychopathic even beyond Davey Blackburn levels. Had they even called the police yet or just using his corpse as a prop?

replies 82Nov 16, 2017 2:14 AM +00:00

Here's that same guy on his public Instagram, clearly upset about Peep's death. Presumably this was after making a joke about discovering his body and getting hated on for it so he needs to show his emotional side. He's so completely out of it, maybe it just seemed funny at the time Peep was dead because he didn't know how else to react and it hadn't sunk in yet. I don't know, it's just so inhuman I'm trying to come up with an explanation for that callousness. The fact he was able to concoct a joke about Peep working out and getting in shape when he knew he was dead and the impact of the reveal is... Wow.

The kid was very mentally ill, but he was an up and coming rapper, so everyone around him figured that was no big deal. Creative people frequently have severe mental illnesses, so I guess nobody thought anything of it. But just looking at him and seeing how he was mutilating his face and body with tattoos it was obvious that he had extreme self loathing and hatred for himself. He ended up exactly the way you would expect someone like him to end up: dead at a young age.

The guy saw that, which likely gave him the idea for the video in the first place, recorded himself talking up his activity, and then after filming what is obviously a corpse added in a joking "oh" to complete it.

If Peep was taking a nap, a pretty normal thing people do, is there really a reason to concoct a whole joke about how hard he's working out just to show him sleeping? I mean maybe, since they thought he had been 'napping' for hours, but I mean come on. The stupidity involved is so off-the-charts that it should be criminal anyway if it was an honest mistake, and definitely so if it wasn't.

His death was downright stupid because he had these 'best friend's idiots around who allegedly don't know an overdose or corpse when they see one, despite having a great familiarity with drugs. You don't need to have ever touched a drug to know he was dead. The whole thing is just incredible in the worst way possible.

Maybe I'm underestimating his popularity and fame, but I really don't think he'll go down as a legend, even to the young generation. Think of all the huge stars of the past who fizzled out. Sure dying young helps your chances, but with the 5 second attention span of society today and the lack of mainstream level of his songs, I really think most people will just move on after the initial shock and grief wears off.

replies 137Nov 16, 2017 8:29 AM +00:00

R136 I have no idea how you can tell he’s dead in that shaky 1 second of footage from a distance and not just wasted/passed out. Also young people/drug users don’t always have the best judgement. I’ve known more than one person who ODed and died because they were with people who didn’t recognize signs and were mostly wasted. Maybe the friend is that fucked up that he’d film a dead friend. I don’t know, but neither do you.

I'm not r136 but he did look dead in that footage. He was totally grey.

Somebody should have written to Dr. Phil about him. It's highly possible that if someone intervened he would have gone on Dr. Phil's show (if insane Sinead O'Connor did it why not Peep?) and boy what a show that would have been! I think Dr. Phil, in his infinite wisdom, would told him what his problem was and offered him the help he needed. Yes, Dr. Phil probably could have saved Peep.

Bexey was most likely high out of his mind when he discovered Peep. A combo of drugs and just general shock is probably what compelled him to make that humorous vid. Now that he's coming down and really becoming aware that he just joked about and filmed his "bruh's" corpse and shared it with the world, there's a chance we might have a second suicide on our hands. Especially since so many people are accusing him of letting Peep die.

replies 163Nov 16, 2017 11:52 AM +00:00

I agree with [R152]. I heard of him through data lounge and have just listened to some of his music. I don't know to call it rapping or singing, but it definitely came from a dark place. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but clearly he had far too many demons to write about on paper and express through his music.

Just because he came from a family in a particular wage bracket doesn't mean that he would be less likely to suffer from some form of mental illness. Because who in their right mind runs around doing class A drugs? Drugs can cause new mental illnesses and exacerbate mental illness that is already present.

I'm sure many people of any sexuality and gender on data lounge can identify that there is always some form of struggle with one's sexuality. Unfortunately it seems that it's harder for young men. Young men, if i remember correctly, are one of the most prone groups to suicide (moreso when divergent sexuality is involved.) LGBT people, in general, are more likely to take drugs and suffer mental illness, be bullied and feel isolated and that they don't belong in the world. I'm sure people on data lounge can identify with that. I am only speculating of course.

I really hope he finds the peace in death that he wasn't able to find in life. And that his family can forgive him and not judge themselves to be responsible for his death.

Carry Narcan kids - maybe a few of them - if you are chasing the fentanyl.

Quick way to tell someone passed out from a corpse: look at the chest - is it rising and falling?Maybe put a finger or two on the neck - there is a big artery on both sides of the neck.

" Assess the scene for safety. If it’s safe approach the victim from the side. Attempt to establish a response by tapping on the victim’s shoulder and shouting loudly, “Hey! Hey, are you okay?” It the victims is unresponsive this is an emergency. replies 201Nov 16, 2017 5:54 PM +00:00

Fentanyl is a pain medication - 100 times stronger than morphine- it was used for severe cancer pain and was provided in a patch that would provide 24/7 coverage of excruciating pain. Then people started abusing it, slapping on extra patches, and dying. Now it is less available and harder to get.

The xanax/fentanyl Peeps got was most likely made in Mexico. The big cartels in Sinaloa are manufacturing fentanyl - its much cheaper than heroin to make. They have distribution sites throughout the East Coast. The Mexican fentanyl is very strong - you have to dilute it before you inject it. The cartels are starting to produce a more dilute version, as they are concerned about killing off their customer base.

Xanax, cocaine - a lot of drugs are being contaminated by fentanyl now. Poor Peeps - should have had Vistaril, Gabapentin and Paxil prescribed for his "nerves". But a lot of opiate addicts like to use xanax as the high wears off. So maybe that was what he was after.

A Pennsylvania coroner believes that a 69-year-old woman who died earlier this month likely came into contact with a deadly substance while cleaning up her son’s drug paraphernalia. Theresa Plummer…

The fentanyl comes from China, it's not illegal to manufacture there, just not legal to sell to their own people. It's exported and ends up in different gang supply chains. I suppose it's karma for the Opium Wars.

TPTB here won't do jack shit about it because they want to do business with China-corporations and governments (which is basically the same thing these days).

People didn't "just start abusing it"; it was always a highly controlled substance. The pharma industry, along with unregulated medical professionals in US/Canada, started writing too many scrips for it for unintended, non-researched uses. They had no experience in pain medicine and didn't care. After the market became apparent, then the criminal element came in.

R226 the Sinaloa cartels in Mexico are now running the fentanyl/heroin market in the US. Heroin is more expensive to produce, so the cartels are producing fentanyl and mixing it with all types of drugs. They are still trying to find the right strength, because they don't want to kill off their customer base, which sadly, included Peeps until recently.

American officials warn that the cartels are using their own labs to produce fentanyl, a synthetic opioid tied to a rise in overdose deaths.

“If you were going to bet on the young musicians most likely to soon be superstars, until yesterday, a lot of smart money would have been on Lil Peep. The rising trend on the Billboard Hot 100 is a woozy-slow mutation of rap, obsessed with drugs, emotionally open but still marked by macho posturing. Gustav Åhr, the Long Island–raised 21-year-old who went by Lil Peep, spiked that brew with the catchy yelping and self-loathing sensibility of emo and pop punk, just at the moment when a popular revival of those scenes seemed imminent. And he arrived as a fully-formed, totally watchable generational symbol. To dive into his world, as hundreds of thousands have done in the two years since he started uploading his music to SoundCloud and YouTube, is to be magnetized.”

The rapper—who died at the age of 21—fused hip-hop, emo, and a magnetic persona that earned him legions of fans in a short time.

Lil Peep, "shy" drug-addled mess that he was, knew what he was doing with his flesh and look to get an audience. So he got one. Partly by dying. Which he ALSO knew. Where is the problem, here? He put himself on display for everyone, on purpose. He was a total fashion freak. He walked in Milan this year.

r265 Armstrong is definitely bi, don't know about this guy.

You don't need an industry machine behind you anymore, so the fact that he didn't register on it doesn't really matter. You could just tell he had "it".

For me, he was a GenZ Machine Gun Kelly for the emo set, which meant less actual rapping, more whinging snap stories & instagramming. Kelly made it without mainstream industry support on the force of his "scene" around him, his charisma and an intense live show. He ran full out buck wild for a few years until he got his shit together. It's too bad Peep couldn't drag himself out.

replies 278Nov 18, 2017 4:40 PM +00:00

The press are saying he o'd-ed on Xanax but nah, not unless he downed 2000 bars. His songs and social media were full of references to 'lean' so it will be the usual Heath/MJ/Whitney combo of benzos and opiates that did him in.

How do you overdose on Xanax? You can't it's impossible. If you wanna die, underdose instead. 12 hours after your last dose, you'll go into seizures and expire, unless more benzos are administered.

replies 279Nov 18, 2017 4:43 PM +00:00

There are two others called Lil Pump and Lil Xan who look really similar to this guy - skinny and white with bad tattoos and lyrics about Xanax and lean. They are soundcloud rappers too.

Sarah Stennett, who managed Lil Peep, is also Zayn's manager and she is apparently VERY concerned about Zayn's drug use. On his last album he sang this about hanging out with Lil Peep and drinking lean for the first time:

I'm sipping pink lucozade

We're blazing on this new found haze.

That's a reference to drinking codeine in a soft drink (lean) and smoking weed at the same time.

Zayn's second album is unfinished because he keeps sleeping through all his studio time, wasted on Xanax and lean. It's worrying.

It does not make a gay man heterosexual if he's married to a woman and has kids, and it doesn't make a bisexual man hetero if he marries a woman and has kids and it doesn't make a bisexual man gay if he's partnered/married to a man.

Lil Peep's older brother Karl Åhr, who goes by Oskar, calls his death an accident. He was 'super happy with where he was in life'.

Oskar says that the pill Peep took may have been laced and caused his death accidentally.

“We, the family, have heard there was some sort of substance he did not expect to be involved in the substance he was taking,” Oskar, 23, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “He thought he could take what he did, but he had been given something and he didn’t realize what it was.”

As to the possibility of it being an intentional overdose, Oskar says Peep “was not struggling” at the time and that finding out about his death was a complete shock.

While Oskar says that he and his brother went through their fair share of struggles growing up with their father, who he describes as a “selfish man,” much of the sadness Peep portrayed in his lyrics and on his Instagram came as a part of his job.

“It makes me laugh to think about the days we watched WWE together but Peep mentioned how being a hip-hop artist is like being a pro-wrestling character. You have to be an actor,” Oskar says. “He gets paid to be sad. It’s what he made his name on. It’s what his image was in a sense.”

Oskar continues. “He was not as sad as people think he was. It’s frustrating as someone who remembers a happy brother.”

Oskar explains, adding that his brother did use marijuana, though, starting at a young age. “I can guarantee drugs are not something that would’ve been a part of his life if he was not a part of that specific culture. Not only was he a part of it, he’ll be remembered for making waves in it.”

Oskar makes it clear that he and his family have great trust in Sarah Stennett, the CEO of First Access Entertainment, which partnered with Peep in the last year, but he blames the hip hop industry as a whole, in part, for putting pressure on artists to portray a certain image.

“My brother didn’t take five Xanax pills every day, but he would take them and then post on Instagram about it,” he says. “I wish it would have paid for him to be a little safer, but the world needed him to have superlative problems that he dealt with in superlative ways. Gus dealt with these problems much better than Lil Peep did, but people didn’t know Gus, and there’s a reason Gus doesn’t sell.”

replies 334Nov 19, 2017 5:14 PM +00:00

Lil Peep had actually played 43 dates out of a 44 date tour and was on the last night of the tour the day he died. Zayn is so spazzed on lean and weed he can't bring himself to even stand on a stage and record a performance for a chat show.

Sarah Stennett sure likes herself some junkie popstars.

replies 335Nov 19, 2017 5:34 PM +00:00

In one of his final posts to Instagram, Peep, barely coherent, said that he’d taken six Xanax pills. The post has since been deleted. Chase Ortega, who has been described by several media outlets as Lil Peep’s manager, broke the news of his death in a tweet: “I’ve been expecting this call for a year. Mother fuck.”

Ortega’s tweet, which is no longer visible to most because the account was made private, vividly illustrates the tensions many fans and onlookers have felt consuming Lil Peep’s music and persona alike: To what extent can listeners be held accountable for the struggles of the artists whose work and lifestyles they revere? With no obvious place to direct their pain, many fans began to lash out at Ortega in the initial hours after Peep’s death. The questions they asked of him, and of themselves, echoed many of the moral dilemmas fandom grapples with: If Ortega had been expecting the call for a year, then why hadn’t he done anything about it? How come no one took him to the hospital? Why are you sad about Lil Peep? Have you ever even listened to him?

He claims Peep put on an entire identity and sold it to win fans. Emo, sad, sensitive, tragic, etc. He says Peep was happy. Therefore, he's saying Peep was cynical because the relationship of kids with their emo-esque stars is all about intimacy and honesty. So he's calling the fans, dupes, and his brother doing shtick. Now, if Peep wasn't as together as the brother argues, he's still being a dick to Peep, his brother. Also calls their dad a dick in so many words. What a charming family.

Lil Peep was a tiny guy, probably only weighed 120 bs, no muscle whatsoever. That kind of build isn't great for heavy duty opiate consumption. You're better off with a bit of fat or height to soak it up, like Drake and Chris Brown. If he'd been a bit bigger, he'd probably have lived.

Nevertheless, he still had it together to do a 43 date tour. He knew six Xans wouldn't kill him, but he hadn't bargained on these Fentanyl laced Xans.

He said that Peep "was the only one" of GothBoiClique "that was signed to anyone" and now he's dead.

Lil Peep was fit and working, he'd done 43 dates of his tour when he fell victim to the overdose. People say it was Xanax laced with Fentanyl, but Fentanyl is very expensive, much more so than alprazolam. Maybe that isn't the story after all. He probably took too much of everything.

Others have reversed their original stance of describing Lil Peep as a "A Basement Amateur" to rename him with the positive spin of describing Lil Peep as a "Lo-Tech Wizard" in the rap genre."

"Like a lot people that lack talent, never learned to play an instrument and think music lyrics schould sound like a 3rd grader trying to write Dr. Seuss Fanfictions Lil Peep decided to assault our ears by becoming a rapper. Much like every wannabe that dreamt himself important and believing themselves a somebody, Lil Peep's idea of fusing his deep, painful emo thoughts about cutting himself, drug addiction, his lose r lifestyle and thoughts about suicide with rap only achieved notice when he finally, either, worked up the courage to Kill himself or finally got depressed enough when a boyfriend dumped him to take a handful of Xanax and chase it down with a couple grams of Heroin. A few weeks before his Self Deletion, Lil Peep was being accused of Plagiarism by the band Mineral for the popular rap music creative style of using an unlicensed sample of their 1998 song Love Letter Typewriter. Like every rapper to come before him and every rapper that will come after him, Lil Peep claimed that he wasn't stealing by illegally using the song without permission but was rather a fan of the song and never wanted to steal from anyone, especially his favorite group. Lil Peep's excuse was that he was using the song in "Tribute" to the band Mineral and wasn't aware that permission, along with crediting the creators was needed to use someone else's intellectual property."

Nedarb, one of Lil Peep's friends is having a dispute with Peep's latest girlfriend, Arzaylea Rodriguez, who had known Peep for only 3 weeks. Originally, Arzaylea wanted to sell some sweat shirts with the logo, "Fuck Xanax, Rest in Peep" in memory of Peep and give the proceeds to a charity, MusiCares Foundation and Peep's family.

So, Nedarb, made several tweets on 22 Nov 2017 in response:

"just delete ur whole shit pls and don’t associate a drug with his life after death please we want to remember HIM not what KILLED HIM"

"if i see anyone in those “fuck xanax rest in peep” hoodies i swear to god".

A fan tweeted back,

"Why the disrespect tho , that was still Peep's girl and the money is going to his mom".

Nedarb then accused Arzaylea of trying to capitalize on Peep's death and replied,

"she knew him for 3 weeks and only a PORTION was supposed to go to her".

Adam22 from Rope Gang also responded with the following tweet,

"Anti Xan message is good but making corny ass merch that he would never have supported is wack. Ask his family/closest friends before you even think about making shit with his name on it."

Arzaylea Rodriguez has since removed the logo, "Fuck Xanax" but is still selling the merchandise online through a pop-up shop.

Rapper, Riff Raff's tribute to Lil Peep

I believe that Lil Peep had a serious mental illness, most likely bipolar disorder.

In an interview with V magazine, Lil Peep said, "I’m probably bipolar”.

In a Pitchfork interview, he said, "I suffer from depression and some days I wake up and I’m like, Fuck, I wish I didn’t wake up. That was part of why I moved to California, trying to get away from the place that was doing that to me, and the people I was around. I realized it was just myself—it’s a chemical imbalance in my brain."

Bipolar disorder previously known as manic depression, is a mental disorder that causes periods of depression and periods of elevated mood. The elevated mood is significant and is known as mania or hypomania, depending on its severity, or whether symptoms of psychosis are present. During mania, an individual behaves or feels abnormally energetic, happy, or irritable. Individuals often make poorly thought out decisions with little regard to the consequences. They may exhibit behaviors characterized as impulsive or high-risk, such as hypersexuality or excessive spending. The need for sleep is usually reduced during manic phases. During periods of depression, there may be crying, a negative outlook on life, and poor eye contact with others. The risk of suicide among those with the illness is high at greater than 6 percent over 20 years, while self-harm occurs in 30–40 percent. Other mental health issues such as anxiety disorders and substance use disorder are commonly associated.

The causes are not clearly understood, but both environmental and genetic factors play a role. Environmental factors include a history of childhood abuse, and long-term stress.

The first manic or depressive episode of bipolar disorder usually occurs in the teenage years or early adulthood. The symptoms can be subtle and confusing; many people with bipolar disorder are overlooked or misdiagnosed—resulting in unnecessary suffering.

One out of two people with bipolar disorder attempt suicide at least once during their lifetime and many attempts are successfully completed. The annual average suicide rate is 0.4 percent, which is 10–20 times that of the general population.

There has been debate regarding the causal relationship between usage of cannabis and bipolar disorder.

But with proper treatment, self-help, and support, people with bipolar disorder can function normally and lead a rich and fulfilling life.

I was just about to post that that sounds essentially like Good Charlotte circa 2002. Nothing original about it.

But sure, new Kurt Cobain...

P.S.: I’m obviously referring to the regular version of the song. I‘m aware that the link at R429 is actually Good Charlotte.

I can see the Kurt Cobain influence in this lot.

R459 Lil Peep was considered as an icon for introducing the emo rap movement just like the Sex Pistols were considered as icons for starting the British punk rock movement. You might not like their music but they did start a new movement.

The city decided to pay respects to the rapper because the city considered Lil Peep as one of their own after he took up residence in London for the past year.

Have we had the toxicology back yet for Peep?

Fentanyl pressed Xans, was it? Weird, xans are very cheap to manufacture and Fentanyl is expensive. I don't really get it. More likely that Fentanyl was cut with alprazolam.

replies 466Dec 9, 2017 5:12 PM +00:00

R464 Just because you had never heard of him doesn't mean that he wasn't an icon. An icon is a celebrity whose exposure in popular culture is widely regarded as constituting a defining characteristic of a given society or era. A millennial or Generation Z might not have heard of the Sex Pistols, which doesn't negate the fact that they were icons of the British Punk Rock movement. In Lil Peep's case, he was an icon of the emo rap movement.

replies 467Dec 9, 2017 5:27 PM +00:00

These spazzy emo rappers can't be compared to punk rockers. The emo rappers grab a track from another band and then rap over the top and add in some distortion. Punk songs were original, there was no sampling.

This was in the Mail today - he has nine drugs in the tox but they concluded that the Fentanyl and the Xanax combined to kill him accidentally.

Lil Peep's death last month at 21 was the result of an accidental drug overdose on substances such as Fentanyl and Xanax.

The 21-year-old rapper, whose real name was Gustav Åhr, died November 15 on his tour bus in Tucson, Arizona due to 'combined toxic effects of fentanyl and alprazolam' - the latter a generic term for Xanax - according to a report from TMZ, citing the Pima County Medical Examiner.

The New York native also had recreational drugs including cocaine and marijuana - and prescription medications including Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone and Tramadol - in his system at the time he died, the outlet reported, citing the medical examiner, adding that he did not test positive for alcohol at his time of death.

R468 Did you know that the Sex Pistols was created by Malcolm McLaren as joke? Malcolm believed that he could sell bad music to the public if the members of the Sex Pistols had the right look. The critics, at the time, hated the Sex Pistols's music because it was basically awful music created by people with very little musical ability or talent. Yet, the Sex Pistols were considered as icons because they did define the Punk Rock movement.

R469 Lil Peep took painkillers for psychological pain. He was diagnosed with depression as a teenager but never received proper treatment for it. He, later, believed that he might have bipolar disorder, which is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks.

These moods range from periods of extremely “up,” elated, and energized behavior (known as manic episodes) to very sad, “down,” or hopeless periods (known as depressive episodes). This would explain why Lil Peep would seem super happy in one moment and extremely depressed in the next moment. In fact, on the day of his death, he posted the Instagram caption, "When I die You'll love me" and "fucc it."

replies 473Dec 9, 2017 7:46 PM +00:00

Oh FFS, r473, are you his fucking p.r. guy? For psychological pain...right, and not to get high. This is why the ban hammer comes down so heavily on prescription meds, cause of punks like this. He was a fucking junkie, stop trying to make all admirable and tortured, he fucked up and took too much, it happens to junkies everyday. Seriously, why do you know so much about this kid?
