Why do Dataloungers like such overblown, grotesque, cartoonish bodies?

During my time on this site I’ve noticed that guys here like men with overgrown hairless pecs, asses, legs, etc. Why is that? It’s not typical of the gay community from what I’ve seen.

Didn’t gay men like muscular bodies always? Steroids are just super popular now, that’s why you see all the blown out stuff. These blown out guys are dropping like flies though, so it’s not that hot.

It’s not typical of the gay community from what I’ve seen.

Some people are still conditioned to look up to an ideal (look), like little girls looked up to the Mattel Barbie Doll ideal about two decades ago.

Post what you like, OP, if you don't like what other people are posting.

replies 3Oct 21, 2017 8:02 AM +00:00

OP is old and out of touch. It's not just gay men who like buff fitness bros, it's the mainstream hot look for guys today, as reflected by the popularity of the look on Instagram (see all the drooling followers-male and female-they have), the look that is popular among leading men in Hollywood and in commercials, all the young men training in the gym to look like this, and the covers of fitness magazines today. It's the mainstream hot look.

replies 4Oct 21, 2017 8:05 AM +00:00

It’s also the look and type that is wildly popular among men seeking men on apps and in personals. It’s not rocket science

replies 5Oct 21, 2017 8:11 AM +00:00

It’s likely two or three people posting about it. Even if it’s a handful, it doesn’t represent the entire DL population. I don’t open the soap threads and also never assume that everyone on here is into daytime dramas.

We do collectively hate hall monitors here, though.

replies 6Oct 21, 2017 8:14 AM +00:00

Those guys don't look human, they remind me of insects. The muscle men look very freakish to me, they look sad.

replies 7Oct 21, 2017 8:18 AM +00:00

R6 Yeah, these countless Instaho threads haven't been around DL forever; that's a recent addition. It would be wrong to think all DLers are into something based on the number of certain types of threads alone.

replies 8Oct 21, 2017 8:22 AM +00:00

Muscle turns me on. Not sure why, perhaps it's due to my insecurity. I rarely post any muscle pics on DL and when I do it's only on existing threads that call for it.

replies 9Oct 21, 2017 8:46 AM +00:00

Maybe the old men who like these dudes just discovered Instagram, R8? It takes awhile for some of these technologies to filter down to the grandpa level.

replies 10Oct 21, 2017 9:00 AM +00:00

And I agree that it could be just a handful of people. Posting a single thread about a new find could easily create many threads with very little effort at all.

replies 11Oct 21, 2017 9:01 AM +00:00

OR, r10, maybe younger guys who like muscle men just found the site not that long ago, and wanted to take part in it.

--You judgmental cunt
replies 12Oct 21, 2017 9:05 AM +00:00

Not very likely, R12. The younger generation are busy actually hanging out with real people.

replies 13Oct 21, 2017 9:11 AM +00:00

On Instagram, it is young, straight-identified dudes drooling most over buff fitness bros

replies 14Oct 21, 2017 9:12 AM +00:00

It is just a handful of people. I actually like the hugely muscled look (because of my own body issues), but I find the constant Instagram posting of guys who look like that boring as hell here, and so I block those threads. If I want to look at Instagram muscled nobodies I know how to do it myself without Datalounge's help.

replies 15Oct 21, 2017 9:14 AM +00:00

r13 you'd think (although, do you know, if you aren't there hanging out with them too?), but that isn't always the case. Weren't there at least 40 threads on painting entire generations with a broad brush?

replies 16Oct 21, 2017 9:15 AM +00:00

I don't like men with too many muscles!

replies 17Oct 21, 2017 9:21 AM +00:00

I don't like the look either. It looks like they are wearing a body suit. I do like the look of natural muscles from straight testosterone, sports (not lifting), or blue collar varieties of work. Prefer little to no gym augmentation and definitely no roids. Much more beautiful.

replies 18Oct 21, 2017 9:28 AM +00:00

If you get fit from work or sports, those muscles look healthy and reasonable, not sick and fearful. Huge muscles are just ugly, pretty much like a huge fat body. Same difference.

replies 19Oct 21, 2017 9:34 AM +00:00

I think a lot of people are bitter they are disqualified from consideration from the top shelf hot guys because their physiques are inadequate.

replies 20Oct 21, 2017 9:36 AM +00:00

Not all fitness bros want to look like, or end up like Rich Piana.

replies 21Oct 21, 2017 10:51 AM +00:00

Some of us like the look, some of us don't. Get a grip, get a life and get over it.

replies 22Oct 21, 2017 11:14 AM +00:00

Don't like it either OP, freakish and creepy.

replies 23Oct 21, 2017 11:29 AM +00:00

It’s the popular look now

replies 24Oct 21, 2017 11:33 AM +00:00

It's gross. I'm with R18.

replies 25Oct 21, 2017 11:36 AM +00:00

I've noticed the inverse, that twinks who are nothing but bones get a lot of attention and threads. Just check that Timothée Chevalier or whatever. I'd much rather those "cartoon" guys, OP. Being attracted to bigness is normal. Being attracted to smallness is perverted.

replies 26Oct 21, 2017 11:37 AM +00:00

THE old white gay guys like twinks. It’s perverted

replies 27Oct 21, 2017 12:14 PM +00:00

Because gays tend to like things in the extreme. You have overly muscled and 'masc' at one end, and super-femme drag pushed to the limit at the other end. The middle is boring and everyday. Same with the US. You have sunny, warm and sprawling LA on the west coast, and snowy, cold and condensed NYC on the east coast. Two opposites. Most gays leave "middle" America and migrate to one or the other. Or both over time.

Because gays tend to like things in the extreme. You have overly muscled and 'masc' at one end, and super-femme drag pushed to the limit at the other end.

Way to pathologize male homosexuality.

And there's no evidence for what you're saying. Compared to straight people, gay people (male and female) are much more tolerant of partners who are intermediary in their levels of masculinity or femininity. Straight people give a lot more emphasis on height and muscularity (in straight women's case) or stereotypical femininity (in straight men's case) when they look for a partner. There's data on that.

As for drag queens, I've never seen a gay man who thought they were a turned on. Usually, people who chase drag queens are bisexuals or men with tranny fetishes, and these don't tend to be gay.

replies 29Oct 21, 2017 5:47 PM +00:00

* a turn on

replies 30Oct 21, 2017 5:54 PM +00:00

Straight people are exalting muscular men even more than gays now.

replies 31Oct 21, 2017 6:01 PM +00:00

Agree. Some of the men in photos posted here are absolutely horrifying to look at. It's not just the hyper exaggerated physique but knowing how many hours and resources went into that boring achievement.

replies 32Oct 22, 2017 12:31 AM +00:00

It's a porn/sex site OP. I don't like the type of men you describe but to each their own.

replies 33Oct 22, 2017 12:40 AM +00:00

Personally, overly muscled with veiny no fat skin does not turn me on. Slightly muscled, normal fat, and without all the veins showing is a turn on.

replies 34Oct 22, 2017 1:18 AM +00:00
Steroids are just super popular now

Are you typing from 1993 or something? The only people who take roids these days are a few old gym dinosaurs.

replies 35Oct 22, 2017 1:35 AM +00:00

Bigness is an American thing. I remember being overseas and walking behind two American gay guys with the exaggerrated footballer physique and tight little muscle walk and people were smerking at them.

replies 36Oct 22, 2017 1:39 AM +00:00

r35 Please tell me you're joking. Either that or you're incredibly out of touch. Steroids are everywhere and tons of people use them.

replies 37Dec 6, 2017 7:56 PM +00:00

R13, the kids are busy skyping and texting and facetiming and jerking off to pornhub, not interacting person to person.
