Dateline Port Charles: Pikeman Mystery Continues

With Valentin now in charge of Pikeman, how long before Anna figures it all out?

Will Jason and Carly continue their longtime friendship or succumb to their feelings?

Will Sonny go full-on manic before they discover his meds have been switched?

Plus, who all will be exiting the show in the coming months?

So many questions to be answered. Continue your discussion here.
[R577] Sean criticized Ron's writing, which created a rift between them. There was also the fact that Frank wanted Carly with Franco, after Carly with Todd was the story, before the whole Prospect Park issues came to surface. Elizabeth and AJ were well received; AJ's return as a whole was welcomed, initially; he primarily left because of Ron's writing (Ron, being his usual self, included fat jabs about AJ gaining weight, as personal jabs towards Sean's weight gain)

More than that, it was the GH old bait and switch crap they pull all the time. Kanan agreed to return only if they stopped making A.J. the butt of jokes as the perpetual loser creep. They reportedly agreed. Then 10 minutes after filing starts he's back to being loser A.J. replete with panic attacks and fat jokes. For whatever reason, TPTB have always hated A.J. (whoever played him) and that character has been trashed almost from day one. Kanan also made it public how disappointed he was with the direction the character was taking and that nothing that he was promised was kept. Sonny shot him dead and got off with a blue ribbon medal for it. I have hated Michael ever since he was written to concede that Sonny was justified in shooting dead his unarmed father who was pleading for his life.

I don't think Ally Mills will win again as Guest Actor.

Dick Van Dyke is nominated in the same category and he will win for the nostalgia factor and publicity. "Oldest Daytime Emmy nominee in history WINS!! The Daytime Emmys will get a lot of exposure with Dick winning.

by Anonymousreply 3April 19, 2024 9:54 PM

As a side note, I met Kanan briefly (professionally) in NYC in the early-mid 90s. Sexier in person, and seemingly straight (had a GF), but didn't seem to mind my checking him out...

by Anonymousreply 4April 19, 2024 9:56 PM

Is Dick Van Dyke guesting on The Young and the Restless? He'd be the youngest cast member on there!

by Anonymousreply 5April 19, 2024 9:57 PM

R2 Right AJ has been written as the perpetual loser. Billy Warlock made similar comments, saying AJ always loses to Jason and Sonny, among other things, which was primarily why he grew tired of playing AJ as well. Not exactly trying to blame her for everything, however Korte has made her preference for Jason known, so she was also writing scripts that made AJ look bad as well. Ron initially was the one who tried rectifying AJ's relationship with Michael, which Maurice became extremely pissed off over. When it comes to Sonny, Jason, Carly, others (outside of their inner circle) are unfortunately almost always made to look like fools.

R3 Alley Mills definitely should not be nominated in the Outstanding Guest Performer category once again. I remember when Vernee Watson was nominated (and won) in that category, she was nominated the following year in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category (and won) which should have also happened with Alley Mills.

by Anonymousreply 9April 19, 2024 10:21 PM

R4 Interesting 😁 😁 but MAGA aside, he was pretty attractive back then.

by Anonymousreply 10April 19, 2024 10:23 PM

R7 😂 😂 😂 😂

by Anonymousreply 11April 19, 2024 10:24 PM

AM winning for Guest Performer last year is the reason why there’s so much Heather on the show now. Frank finds a new pet and plays them out.

As for the Violet kid, I knew the minute she performed that stupid song Frank would submit her for an Emmy. I wouldn’t be surprised if he bought it for her. Her mom was promoting it on Spotify.

As for NAC, he didn’t enjoy the bts politics at the show. This was his first gig and he didn’t know how to play the game. He just wanted to do his job and go home. A few actors weren’t fond of his seemingly instant popularity. They offered him a substantial raise to return for a limited contract and he turned them down. He was worried how he’d be received bts coming back after such a huge project.

by Anonymousreply 12April 19, 2024 10:58 PM

Soaps went off the rails when they decided, thanks to the incredible popularity of Tony Geary's Luke, to focus on the anti-hero. Think of all those who followed Luke...Todd Manning, Jason Morgan, Sonny Corinthos. These are all men who have done despicable acts. The notion that Laura could view Sonny as a friend, and that nearly the whole town is sympathetic to Jason Morgan -- a gun for hire! -- tells you quite a lot. I wonder if this pattern has to do with the writers believing that women want to fix broken men. Honestly, I have found Sam much more appealing because she loves a truly good man, Dante. Thank goodness the current writers are having Liz, Sam, and Laura re-think their loyalty to mobsters who -- let us not forget -- mete out vigilante justice and are doing something illegal and harmful in that coffee warehouse. Drugs? Arms? Someone's getting hurt -- we just don't see them on screen. Sadly, all will be forgiven when it emerges Sonny has not been on his drugs (and Ava will probably be accused of having meddled with them).

by Anonymousreply 13April 19, 2024 11:35 PM

R12 The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth 😁

by Anonymousreply 14April 19, 2024 11:54 PM

R13 That's an excellent point; so Luke pretty much spearheaded the anti-hero movement? I'm also wondering if this has always been more of an ABC thing.

by Anonymousreply 15April 19, 2024 11:59 PM

r12 BTS?

by Anonymousreply 16April 20, 2024 12:14 AM

Lujack… Bo…. Patch… they all copycatted the antihero archetype.

by Anonymousreply 17April 20, 2024 12:18 AM

R16 Short for behind the scenes.

by Anonymousreply 18April 20, 2024 12:21 AM

R17 Oh right. All popular too, like the others mentioned. I think it has a lot to do with what R13 said about some women having that whole "save him" complex when it comes to certain men.

by Anonymousreply 19April 20, 2024 12:23 AM

This wacky writing for Laura has to be facilitating GF’s vacation or something. Suddenly Laura wants to play superhero for Heather and Cyrus? What?

by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2024 12:44 AM

R18 - Thank you

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2024 1:32 AM

There is a difference between the antihero and straight up criminals. Sonny and Jason are straight up criminals. They don't name their particular crime, but it's either girls, guns, or drugs or all 3 and even if you can overlook what they're trafficking in, they still murder people. Then what the show tries to do is bring another mobster who is supposed to worse, but it's all the same.

Luke Spencer was a true antihero. He dad bad things and was redeemed by the love of a good woman. The actor didn't like the redeemed by a good woman part and fought to make sure that Luke, post Laura, always danced on the line.

Bo Brady was just a bad boy. Todd Manning was a spoiled preppy, turned psycho, turned grey.

But Sonny has always been a criminal and his been taking advantage of brain damaged man on and off for 30 years. They try this Jason is the quiet good guy who just happens to murder people for the mob, but Jason should be in a rest home somewhere or being overseen by a responsible adult.

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2024 2:07 AM

R22, you've captured it well. What I dislike most about the approach of making criminals the characters we're supposed to root for is that it assumes the audience is made up of idiots. It also dumbs down the female characters (Anna, Laura, Alex) who fall for the charms of these men. In fact, we (the audience) love when the characters behave intelligently; we love when they deal with real life issues. It's enough with the comic-book characters -- I'm on my last nerve with the "new improved" GH. I may have to drop it soon because it's just too dumb.

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2024 2:18 AM

Sadly, at this time point, Sonny's domination of General Hospital is for nearly half its entire lifetime. In terms of history, Sonny is more relevant than Dr. Steve Hardy and possibly even Luke Spencer.

by Anonymousreply 24April 20, 2024 12:14 PM

R20 Alley Mills appeared on Michael Fairman's Live Emmy Talk yesterday evening. She revealed that Heather and Laura are going to be friends, for the time being, with restrictions.

She also revealed that the hip replacement side effects, of cobalt poisoning, being responsible for Heather's psychotic breaks was actually Chris van Etten's idea; Patrick Mulcahey liked the idea so much, he decided to keep it (Patrick and Alley have been friends going back to their time at B&B. Patrick loves Alley and wanted to keep her storyline going; Frank and the network love her too, which is why she's sticking around). Alley, who became friends with Chris prior to joining GH (a mutual friend introduced them, which played into her becoming Heather) said that Chris is "still with them."

by Anonymousreply 26April 20, 2024 1:09 PM

How incredibly dumb R25.

There is no need for this much Heather. Wow.

by Anonymousreply 27April 20, 2024 1:31 PM

How long will it be before GH fans, who were so excited about the arrival of Patrick Mulcahey, turn against him?

by Anonymousreply 28April 20, 2024 1:54 PM

R21 You're welcome.

by Anonymousreply 29April 20, 2024 1:57 PM

R27 😂 😂

by Anonymousreply 30April 20, 2024 1:58 PM

R28 It's already started; he's being referred to as boring, just as bad as Korte and all the other head writers under Frank's tenure, how long before The Gates scoops him up so he can stay away from GH, etc. The malaise has seemed to set in.

by Anonymousreply 31April 20, 2024 2:01 PM

I'm already lost faith in Mulcahey. He's a Korte fan so by extension a Carly Rules the World advocate. Heather is NOT needed. Air Fryers? Kristina saying to Anna "Sonny is my sister's father" as opposed to a more succinct "Sonny is my UNCLE". Ugh.

The only possible saving grace is Nina and Ava becoming enemies and fighting like true soap vixens should. Taking turns winning with great dialogue and machinations from two strong actresses with nuance. Not the Carly/Nina granny bickering with Snarly all coming out on top and Nina being the punching bag.

by Anonymousreply 32April 20, 2024 2:02 PM

^Snarly [italic]always[/italic] coming out on top.

by Anonymousreply 33April 20, 2024 2:08 PM

R32 Looks like you're about to get two for one with the upcoming Nina and Ava confrontation scenes this coming Monday, followed by Nina going to Carly and sharing her suspicions with her that Friday, which could start a bond.

by Anonymousreply 34April 20, 2024 2:20 PM

R20 Genie could take an earlier vacation if she joins her husband in Bulgaria for that directing job; if not for that, she also may be out sooner than expected if unconfirmed reports of her 89 year old mother passing away are legitimate.

by Anonymousreply 35April 20, 2024 2:26 PM

It's interesting that GH originally wanted Jesse Lee Soffer as Michael (when he first exited ATWT as Will Munson) and Tom Pelphrey as Dante (upon him being away from GL as Jonathan Randall) seeing how recognizable they both are outside of daytime (especially Jesse Lee)

by Anonymousreply 36April 20, 2024 2:32 PM
Snarly always coming out on top.

It does indeed get tiresome. And on the show too.

by Anonymousreply 37April 20, 2024 3:09 PM

R36 - I can't imagine Soffer or Pelphrey have any regrets on losing out.

by Anonymousreply 38April 20, 2024 3:10 PM

Soaps would be wise to avoid corny and predictable stories and dialogue. We're supposed to believe Jason and Carly have this amazing friendship in which they can almost read each other's minds. We're supposed to believe that Jason, who sentences are never longer than four words and is emotionally stunted, is a hero. We're supposed to believe that Sonny, a mob boss, with his stuttering and diminuitive body size, is a scary mob boss (just because he shouts!). Give us twists! Give us the unexpected! Insert a little sophistication into characters' minds and motives. Yes, a little hate sex is unexpected but it's also out of character given that Nina is still pining for Sonny. Does that kid's interest in cooking have to come up every time he is mentioned? Does he not have any other interests? Do the straight kids have any interests?

by Anonymousreply 39April 20, 2024 3:30 PM

R38 Most definitely. Without a doubt 😁 😁

by Anonymousreply 42April 20, 2024 3:36 PM

This show won’t get better unless Frank leaves. I know there are rumors he doesn’t have as much power anymore but he needs to be booted.

by Anonymousreply 43April 21, 2024 12:30 AM

Someone posted a video on X of Frank telling Jophielle (Violet) in the middle of a scene rehearsal that she got an Emmy nomination and then Becky and Michael Easton hug her. So Michael is still there as of 4/18

by Anonymousreply 44April 21, 2024 12:36 AM

^ If you listen closely, you can hear in the background Laura Wright yelling "Jophielle?! That fucking cunt! FRANK! A word, now!"

by Anonymousreply 45April 21, 2024 12:39 PM

JPS tweeting he would have liked to have seen NAC and Charles Shaughnessy get Emmy nominations.

by Anonymousreply 46April 21, 2024 12:42 PM

Mo on X begging for 15 more subscribers to his YouTube channel so he can reach a certain level (aka monetary level) while showing photo of the views from his home.

Gawd, I can't stand that guy.

by Anonymousreply 47April 21, 2024 2:09 PM

R44 Jophielle will most likely win (for her song "Shine" in the "Best Original Song" category, just in case anyone was wondering what she's nominated for).

Michael Easton is still filming, although he's scheduled to be out soon. There's still speculation that Gregory will die a hero; also there's a possibility of an explosion at Bobbie's (which is why they had those scenes with the city employee)

Dick Van Dyke should be a lock for guest performer, as someone already mentioned, although Guy Pearce reprising his role on Neighbours seems definitely a close second. Alley Mills winning over either one of them seems like a longshot, however stranger things have happened.

by Anonymousreply 48April 21, 2024 6:13 PM

Finola Hughes was also a guest on Michael Fairman's Emmy talk the other day. She was asked which man is Anna going to be with next; she immediately mentioned JPS, saying she wants to work with him more, how they're texting each other constantly about wanting to work with each other often again (for they've both been wondering when/if are Anna and Valentin going to get back together together). She also mentioned she loves the direction Valentin's going in and feels that he's capable of pulling it off.

When told that Anna/Jagger seemed to be in the cards, she sort of lit up and mentioned that she loves working with Adam Harrington. She then brought up Charles Measure, saying how she loves working with him as well; she complimented both actors. She said that both of them are in love with Carly, so what can she do (Jagger and apparently Brennan too will have more interaction with Carly) however she's willing to take the leftovers. She then pivoted back to JPS, saying she would love more interaction between Anna and Valentin.

(This wasn't mentioned by FH, however Adam wanted to cut his hair. Frank told him no, for it would only make Jagger "look stiff")

by Anonymousreply 49April 21, 2024 7:21 PM

*Meant Charles Mesure at R49; autocorrect.

Soap Opera Blind Items (from Crazy Days & Nights)

1. This long time ABC staple was due to make his return. However, they want him to take weekly drug tests and to lay off the booze during actual work hours.

2. This actor from an NBC show was fired for being too aggressive during sex scenes. This is the same guy who hooked up with an underage co-star and everyone pretended it didn't happen.

3. This former CBS teen actress was fired from the show when everyone threatened to quit if she wasn't. Everyone hated working with her and she hasn't acted since.

4. This former ABC actress moved on and has had a very nice career. It was huge at one point during a very popular movie franchise. She was sued by her show because she tried to leave it for a big primetime opportunity.

by Anonymousreply 54April 21, 2024 7:59 PM

Who is Blind #1? Walt Willey? MEK? Who else from AMC/OLTL was a "staple"?

Sidenote: Did James DePaiva know his character was going to be a predator when he took the GH role or did they change the storyline to get rid of him? Seemed like he could have been a viable character, he looked good and could have been paired with a variety of ladies but they ruined him. I thought he reformed his difficult ways from his OLTL heyday.

by Anonymousreply 55April 21, 2024 8:08 PM

R55 I'm confused about #1 as well.

I'm assuming that James DePaiva knew what type of character Dr. Bensch was going to become, for Nancy Lee knew as well, which led to more animosity between her and Frank. She refused to have Alexis involved with a potential predator (Alexis would have been with him, oblivious to his true nature, which Nancy Lee refused to play) before it was even revealed that he wasn't a good guy. This article might be of interest to you:

I've got it!

Blind #1 is Real Andrews/Taggert.

by Anonymousreply 57April 21, 2024 9:08 PM

R57 I think you're right. He is a recovering alcoholic/drug addict.

by Anonymousreply 58April 21, 2024 9:11 PM

Are they writing Anna younger than she's supposed to be? Why is she getting all of these love interests? Shouldn't she be cashing a social security check?

by Anonymousreply 59April 21, 2024 9:25 PM

R59 😆 They could have de-aged her, for she's supposed to be 63. They shaved off Sonny's age, among others. You know that younger characters ages are typically SORAS'ed while older characters are de-SORAS'ed 😊

by Anonymousreply 60April 21, 2024 9:45 PM

Meg Bennett passed away. She was married to Bob Giza; she also wrote for GH off & on from 1987-2011. She also appeared onscreen as Alicia Montenegro's mother, Allegra (Sam's doppelganger) in 2005. Other writing credits include Y&R, Santa Barbara, Sunset Beach; acting credits include Search For Tomorrow, prior to Y&R.
4. This former ABC actress moved on and has had a very nice career. It was huge at one point during a very popular movie franchise. She was sued by her show because she tried to leave it for a big primetime opportunity.

My first thought was Tia Carrere but I don't think she was "HUGE" at even her peak in the late 80s. In any case, ABC did do her dirty.

by Anonymousreply 64April 22, 2024 12:13 PM

R63 😆 😆

by Anonymousreply 65April 22, 2024 2:15 PM

R64 Tia Carrere was done dirty by ABC, when she was on GH? How? Right she wasn't exactly huge, but somewhat known. I'm not sure if it's her either.

by Anonymousreply 66April 22, 2024 2:17 PM

Demi Moore?

by Anonymousreply 67April 22, 2024 11:02 PM

R66 - I don't recall all the details, but she was starting to break big and wanted out of her contract. They played hardball and I don't remember if she missed get cast in a big movie or if she broke the contract and got blackballed in the industry. Her biggest movies were the hot chick in "Wayne's World" and the hot chick in "Jade" (with David Caruso) so, no, not really a huge star. But she did have a lot of buzz in the late 80s and I think ultimately had a decent career as a sexy action hero type in syndicated TV shows in the 90s/early 00s. Wayne's World had a sequel that she was also in so maybe that's the franchise?

IIRC, she was forced to honor her contractual obligations to GH which, in turn, spitefully, gave her the bare minimum of screen time and turned her into a glorified extra.

by Anonymousreply 68April 22, 2024 11:15 PM

Did Frank ever allow William Lipton (Cameron) to play any of his original songs on the show so he could get an Emmy nomination like little Miss whatshername?

by Anonymousreply 69April 22, 2024 11:22 PM

R67 Don't think it's Demi. Frank really wanted her back as Jackie Templeton before he cast Kim Delaney; Demi apparently isn't interested in reprising her role. Jackie might not make it to Chase's wedding.

by Anonymousreply 70April 23, 2024 1:07 AM

Jackie should be recast yet again, Kim Delaney was not appealing.

by Anonymousreply 71April 23, 2024 1:09 AM

R68 You're probably right, for Wayne's World was a franchise wasn't it? They also didn't mention which decade this occurred in, so it could very well be her. She had a pretty decent acting career outside of soaps and everything you're saying that transpired lines up. I guessed Sarah Michelle Gellar, for she was part of the Scream franchise at one point, however she was fired from AMC after her Daytime Emmy win (she even admitted to Kathy Griffin that Susan Lucci got her fired) so it's definitely not her.

by Anonymousreply 72April 23, 2024 1:12 AM

R69 😆 yes. William actually performed four or five songs on GH- two of which were nominated for best song: North Star in 2020 and Darling Darling in 2023

by Anonymousreply 73April 23, 2024 1:15 AM

R71 😆

by Anonymousreply 74April 23, 2024 1:17 AM

I hope that dopey Violet kid is out the door with Easton.

Also, putting Jagger with Anna would be weird. The man went to high school with Robin. 😂

by Anonymousreply 75April 23, 2024 2:37 AM

R75 She appeared to be, however since Frank and Nathan both love her so much, she's probably going to stick around.

by Anonymousreply 76April 23, 2024 1:15 PM

Alley Mills apparently accidentally let the cat out of the bag with her comment referencing Chris Van Etten, saying "he's still with us" for him (and possibly Dan O'Connor too) are allegedly still employed as either "creative consultants" and/or uncredited breakdown writers. Former GH writer Shannon Peace (who was recently fired, yet initially hired by Chris and Dan) commented vaguely "When the secret is finally out," while others are questioning the network's decision to even keep them there.

by Anonymousreply 77April 23, 2024 1:21 PM

Over on the Soap Opera Network forums they’re saying NAC was a pain in the ass as soon as he won the Emmy and asked to get out of his contract even well before he got the Monsters gig. This doesn’t really track for me; if he was a pain, why would they give him so much to do in ‘22 and ‘23?

by Anonymousreply 78April 23, 2024 6:45 PM

R78 Doesn't track for me either. That could be someone who's trying to smear his name. The network is apparently holding out hope that he'll return one day, which is primarily why they're refusing to recast. There were certain people on set, such as Maurice and Chad who weren't necessarily receptive to him, yet as for practically everyone else, he got along with them fine. I suppose only the people who weren't close to him would consider him somewhat of a "pain in the ass."

by Anonymousreply 79April 23, 2024 7:55 PM

Chris Van Etten is apparently the only one out of the previous head writing team who's still connected to the writing team, either in a consultant or writing position; Dan O'Connor is allegedly preparing to file a lawsuit with them, for wrongful termination.

by Anonymousreply 81April 23, 2024 8:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 85April 23, 2024 9:24 PM

Is Amanda Setton pregnant or not?

Whatever the case, both she and LW dress badly. LW dresses matronly.

I give up on Storms. I can't even tell if she's looking slimmer.

Lois' quirkiness is not working this time around and is not cute. On X they are calling her hair do at the shower today Lisa Simpson hair.

by Anonymousreply 86April 23, 2024 9:35 PM

I guess the Brook Lynn actress isn't allowed to sexy dance either due to her super duper commitment to her marriage and her blazers.

Why is she even on this show?

When I lived in L.A. you couldn't walk ten feet without bumping into an aspiring actress/actor willing to do anything for a job. But Frank is too busy running his rescue charity for unemployed actors from defunct soaps to hire the right people for the job.

Jane Elliott is a gem.

R86 She hasn't confirmed or denied a pregnancy or not. She's still being extremely secretive about her life outside of GH.

KSt is supposedly on Ozempic, both her and Jeff Kober. She's somewhat slimmer, with still a ways to go.

Lisa Simpson 😆😆 I can definitely see that.

by Anonymousreply 89April 23, 2024 10:28 PM

🤣🤣 that's exactly why she's on the show, Frank's charity for unemployed actors is open to practically anyone who's asks him, provided they didn't burn any bridges with him or someone over at the network.

JE really is incredible.

by Anonymousreply 90April 23, 2024 10:31 PM

R84 No wonder she didn't eat it 😂 that makes perfect sense.

by Anonymousreply 91April 23, 2024 10:32 PM

R91 was meant for R88 that was very clever 😂

by Anonymousreply 92April 23, 2024 10:34 PM

Poor Swickard, wasted in this dull pairing.

He should go over to Hallmark and replace disenchanted Ryan Paevey.

Swickard could make replacing Paevey on shows his thing! A running gag. 🤣

by Anonymousreply 93April 23, 2024 10:38 PM

Whoever posed Amanda and Josh with the hotdogs was messing with her and I like it!

Hotdogs are so out of the blue and have nothing to do with the story or theme, it was intentional.

by Anonymousreply 94April 23, 2024 10:39 PM

R93 That's actually not a bad idea. He apparently wanted to leave back in February, because he was so disenchanted with his storyline. Frank and the network talked him into re-signing his contract

by Anonymousreply 95April 23, 2024 10:57 PM

R94 LMAO could see that. She's so uptight what better way to try and loosen her up by holding a hot dog lol

by Anonymousreply 96April 23, 2024 10:59 PM

It took 25 replies but even a GH thread is now a Trump thread.

by Anonymousreply 97April 23, 2024 11:18 PM

I agree that the Chase/Dex scenes were electric. Frankly (and excuse the pun), the pairing drew (again!) out Chase's dom side and Dex looked like a first-rate sub.

by Anonymousreply 98April 23, 2024 11:21 PM

So many Hall Monitors and Sheriffs here on DL. When did Muriel deputize them all? Was there a ceremony to induct them?

by Anonymousreply 99April 23, 2024 11:31 PM

The Blaze actress looks so different from different angles.

Up close she looks like she has a very round face and is chubby.

In full length shots she looks petite and slim.

There was a social media photo of her at some lunch with other soap actresses and I didn't even recognize her she looked so totally different to me.

by Anonymousreply 100April 24, 2024 12:53 AM

R98 Lol two puns for one huh but that's exactly how I saw it too 😁 the dominant top cop welcoming the submissive rookie, making him feel more comfortable

by Anonymousreply 101April 24, 2024 2:17 AM

R99 Ha you mean in here, or on this site overall?

by Anonymousreply 102April 24, 2024 2:18 AM

R100 I've noticed that too, from both angles. In the luncheon photo, I didn't recognize her immediately either. She's really enjoying being there, even though responses to her and Kristina have been pretty lukewarm after initially gaining steam.

by Anonymousreply 103April 24, 2024 2:23 AM

Just curious if Kate Mansi has caught on as Kristina. What are the fans saying? They made this big deal about her casting and then nothing.

by Anonymousreply 104April 24, 2024 2:56 AM

R104 Mixed reviews. Some say that they love her, including DOOL fans who want her back as Abigail, especially with Jennifer and Jack set to return soon. There's also been mentions of preferring her over Lexi. They also seem to love her chemistry with Alexis, Sam Sonny and Nina, in particular, along with some comparisons to a young Marisa Tomei.

Others are saying that she's boring, lacks chemistry with practically everyone, aren't buying her being bi or her relationship with Blaze overall, finding her feud with Josslyn unrealistic- because of the age gap between the actresses, also the dynamic with the Davis girls as a whole seemingly unbelievable, especially with Molly and the surrogacy storyline; asking why was Lexi fired over her, how'd they prefer Lexi back, etc.

Giovanni "Gio" Mazza is still slated to debut soon as Giovanni "Gio" Cerullo.

by Anonymousreply 106April 24, 2024 3:31 AM

OMG IT WAS ALICE!

by Anonymousreply 107April 24, 2024 4:59 AM

Alice? Alice Grant, Heather Webber's mother? Lol idk

by Anonymousreply 108April 24, 2024 5:21 AM

Kate's acting is SOOOOO affected. She lets everything -- every emotion, every reaction, every thought -- wash over her before she says anything. I can 'see' the acting.

Of course, Kristina KNOWS what Sonny's about.

She's known for a long time. But here we have a new writer writing a new story for a new Kristina.

I was watching B&B today. I'm actually a fan of KKL's but her reaction to RJ telling her Luna and Zende slept together was cringe worthy. How can this woman be nominated for an Emmy and Maura West not be?

by Anonymousreply 109April 24, 2024 5:26 AM

R109 I see what you mean, in regards to Kate Mansi; which is odd because she's seemed to have regressed somewhat as an actress, for she was pretty good as Abigail, at least after awhile, yet her performances now are reminiscent of her early days, when she first started on Days.

I like KKL as well, however there's a few reasons why she's never actually won an Emmy. She has an expressive face, so her facial reactions are very entertaining, yet her style of acting isn't exactly best; KKL has her moments, yet she's not like a powerhouse. MW must've submitted scenes that weren't deemed Emmy worthy.

by Anonymousreply 110April 24, 2024 8:21 AM

Daily Mail has an article about twitter comments upsetting Ryan Paevey and Nicholas Bechtel.

Is Paevey going to make this his "brand now? Complaining about how mean social media and the entertainment industry are? Did someone hold a gun to his head and force him to become an actor? He should thank his lucky stars he has been able to earn an above average salary on soaps and Hallmark being the wooden, one note amateur he is.

by Anonymousreply 111April 24, 2024 10:39 AM

I've gotta say GH has gotten better. Still many FF moments but the "break up" scenes between MW/CW followed by LW/MB along with this whole JAS fighting about Danny made for a great episode. The Danny actor is soo cute.

by Anonymousreply 112April 24, 2024 11:30 AM

Danny actor is doing well. I think it's his first acting job so extra kudos to him.

by Anonymousreply 113April 24, 2024 11:33 AM

The problem with social media soap fans is that they want to dish it out, but can't take it when someone claps back at them. Ron used to do this regularly and, I believe, got in trouble for it. I see some of the shit they post on Twitter, it's wild. And Facebook is just one big Klan rally.

And don't get me wrong, I think most actors need to have a tough skin to get into acting and most do, but some of these soap fans are unhinged in their comments. Oh and when the fanbases swarm, God help everybody.

by Anonymousreply 114April 24, 2024 12:56 PM

R112 Monday's episode was phenomenal. It should be noted that it was written by Emily Culliton and Kate Hall, who are both daughters of famed soap writers- Emily's being Richard and Carolyn Culliton, Kate's being Courtney Simon and Ed Simon, who met while both acting on Search For Tomorrow, with Ed being more known for his role as Dr. Ed Bauer on Guiding Light. Either one of them could possibly be great head writers someday, though neither wanted the GH hw position.

Nina and Ava's confrontation fared better than the usual Nina vs. Carly battles, for there was balance, with both women allowed to have a POV without a clear winner or Nina being made out to look like the bad guy, which is usually the case when she's up against Carly. Cynthia and Maura showed, once again, that they are two of the best actresses that GH has to offer. Maurice, who is indeed insufferable at times, was pretty amusing, especially when he was imitating Carly and calling her out on her commitment to Jason. Kelly Monaco even stepped it up in her scenes with Steve, which is rare for her since she pretty much gave up around the time Sam left Billy's Jason for Steve's, although many believe she gave up even before that.

In a way, you can sort of see Mulcahey's direction; though Korte is and will always be obsessed with all things Carly, to her detriment, along with network interference still pushing certain stories, there's the whole family/friends/work/sex interpersonal dynamics that Patrick loves to play; if paired with another hw who shares his same style of writing, the show would probably have more episodes like they had on Monday.

by Anonymousreply 115April 24, 2024 3:18 PM

R112 R113 Agreed. Asher is an exceptional talent who could also have a pro baseball career, should he choose to go a different route as an adult. GH is officially his first professional acting gig; no one was more excited than his father, who grew up watching GH. He also commutes back and forth from Chicago to film.

by Anonymousreply 116April 24, 2024 3:29 PM

r115, couldn't agree more. An engaging, balanced high charged exchange between Ava and Nina, showcasing both characters and actresses.

Not a Queen Snarly snarl fest to dump on Nina.

by Anonymousreply 117April 24, 2024 3:30 PM

R111 Make this his brand now 😁 I've never thought that, however now that you mention it, that could very well be what he's doing, to further his sales. He's currently adding a clothing line to the jewelry he's already selling, so wonder if that's his angle. Nicholas still seems interested in resuming his job at GH, with fans not necessarily being too receptive of that idea, while Ryan himself tried to make a u-turn towards GH after he initially quit, only for Frank to turn him down, for he was under the spell of Josh Swickard by then and more interested in making him his top cop.

R114 You're absolutely about Ron and the fan bases 😁 Ron did run into trouble frequently, for engaging in Twitter feuds with fans, so much so that he was reprimanded for "threatening" someone who turned out to be a child (a student who criticized his writing). However, the fans, particularly GH fans (as mentioned on here) are a different breed. When Sonny and Alexis had their dalliance, CarSon fans were so livid, they sent NLG death threats and certain strange gifts to her at the studio. Maurice ended up hiring bodyguards for NLG.

by Anonymousreply 118April 24, 2024 3:42 PM

R117 Exactly as you described. It was classic soap with two actresses/characters on equal footing, without biased writing being in favor of one over the other. They were both allowed to fully express themselves.

It's a shame that whenever anyone is up against "Queen Snarly" 😂 she has to always win, then have her family or others quickly coming to her defense, like she's some wounded bird while everyone else is in the wrong, when it comes to her.

by Anonymousreply 119April 24, 2024 3:54 PM
both daughters of famed soap writers- Emily's being Richard and Carolyn Culliton, Kate's being Courtney Simon and Ed Simon, who met while both acting on Search For Tomorrow, with Ed being more known for his role as Dr. Ed Bauer on Guiding Light.

Peter Simon.

by Anonymousreply 120April 24, 2024 5:14 PM

R120 😆 I didn't realize I referred to his character Ed as his real name. Yes, Nancy Lee, his name is Peter Simon. I was thinking of his character and some of his storylines as I posted that, I stand corrected.

by Anonymousreply 121April 24, 2024 6:11 PM

r121 Don't get so defensive. It's an easy mistake to make. Many of us here do it from time to time.

by Anonymousreply 122April 24, 2024 7:17 PM

R121 What? I wasn't being defensive, I was going along with the whole correction being from Nancy Lee, I even found it to be funny with her name signed to it.

by Anonymousreply 123April 24, 2024 7:47 PM

I meant that for R122 at R121

by Anonymousreply 124April 24, 2024 7:48 PM

I mean that was meant for R122 at R123 😆 I'm making mistakes now obviously but no wasn't being defensive is the point I'm making.

by Anonymousreply 125April 24, 2024 7:49 PM

I thought Jason and Joss were going to hook up today. And I was here for it, and Carly's subsequent exploding head.

by Anonymousreply 129April 24, 2024 11:47 PM

Spoiler Alert: Apparently they've decided who won the Daddy Sweepstakes in terms of Dex. It came down to Jagger, Jason and Dante; the winner is Jason.

by Anonymousreply 130April 24, 2024 11:49 PM

Jason actually being the father of Dex was rumored here for awhile; Courtney and Karen Wexler were even mentioned as potential mothers. Apparently, this is the direction they're headed towards.

by Anonymousreply 131April 24, 2024 11:52 PM

Should be AJ and give Michael a brother. Could put Dex at odds with Sonny and complicated dynamic with Jason. Could make sense timeline wise unlike Jason who has enough kids!

by Anonymousreply 132April 25, 2024 12:31 AM

R132 Good idea, this would give Jason three to AJs one. Probably because AJ isn't on canvas, their reasoning for not going that route. Then again, a son of Justus Ward and Faith Roscoe is apparently on the way, with neither of his parents on canvas (for the time being) so that's actually not enough of a reason lol

by Anonymousreply 133April 25, 2024 12:52 AM

Spoiler alert: Laura killed David Hamilton. Not Leslie. Laura remembered it long before she testified about it!

by Anonymousreply 134April 25, 2024 1:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 135April 25, 2024 2:26 AM

Rose and Hutch. Those were the days...

by Anonymousreply 136April 25, 2024 9:38 AM

Oh, GOD. Why does Dex have to be anyone's kid? ESPECIALLY, Jason's. I hate that shit.

My 82 YO mother just started watching GH, and it's fun talking to her about it. ANY young person that comes on the screen she assumes is either Sonny's or Jason's kid. She says "SHIT, they have so many WHO can keep track." And as for most of the female characters, I simply say..."Sonny's baby mama. Jason's baby mama OR She slept with Sonny, Jason, and currently, Sonny's son"

Old people are funny.

by Anonymousreply 137April 25, 2024 11:26 AM
When Sonny and Alexis had their dalliance, CarSon fans were so livid, they sent NLG death threats and certain strange gifts to her at the studio. Maurice ended up hiring bodyguards for NLG.

by Anonymousreply 138April 25, 2024 11:47 AM
KSt is supposedly on Ozempic, both her and Jeff Kober. She's somewhat slimmer, with still a ways to go.

GH missed the boat with Storms' weight gain. They could have easily written it into the show. The struggle of a vain, narcissistic person with rapid weight gain owing to either depression (count the reasons) or medication side effects. It could be a character-driven story about how this impacts her view of herself in the world of fashion and interacting with skeletal models. Weight issues are common, and probably more so for soap fans, and this is one way they could have made Maxi more relatable as an actual person with feelings rather than a shrill vapid cartoon.

Oh well.

by Anonymousreply 139April 25, 2024 11:53 AM

Dex as Aj’s son makes sense if they insist on connecting him to the canvas. Would make him a Q. Built in conflicts and if we had Monica around she’d spoil him to correct the mistakes with AJ. Dex could also struggle with alcoholism.

by Anonymousreply 140April 25, 2024 2:31 PM

ABC should have a contest to have a couple of long-time viewers join the GH writing team.

by Anonymousreply 141April 25, 2024 2:38 PM

I SAW BEVERLY DEFREEST EATING BREAD IN THE LADIES ROOM!

by Anonymousreply 142April 25, 2024 3:35 PM

Dex being AJ's son, thus Michael's brother, and the vengeful son of a man murdered by Sonny, as well as a true Q heir, would be far more dramatic, and something OLTL or THE GL would've done.

by Anonymousreply 148April 25, 2024 8:40 PM

Nikolas being transferred to an out of state prison doesn't bode well for a recast or for Adam Huss' "on call" status.

by Anonymousreply 149April 25, 2024 8:42 PM

GH's ratings are slipping:

Week of April 8th-12th (Preempted April 8th because of the eclipse)

Y&R 3,088,000 (-55,000 from previous week)

B&B 2,678,000 (-25,000 from previous week)

GH 2,014,000 (-113,000 from previous week)

by Anonymousreply 150April 25, 2024 9:36 PM

R137 Because Korte wants to keep revolving everything around Carly's World, so having Dex as Jason's son solidifies him in with Carly, Jason, Michael, Josslyn, etc. Dante and Jagger were other possibilities; apparently, it's Jason, although the network can always change it.

That's actually a beautiful story about you and your mother. Old people are funny, no filter

by Anonymousreply 151April 25, 2024 9:42 PM

R138 😂

by Anonymousreply 152April 25, 2024 9:43 PM

R139 That's something they definitely could've done, however they probably didn't because KSt is extremely sensitive in regards to her weight gain (she even takes offense to fans weighing in on it on SM) that she most likely couldn't handle that type of story. When they were putting together outfits for Bobbie's memorial, KSt had a panic attack backstage because of not being able to fit in mostly any of their outfits, which led to her having to be calmed down.

Frank is so close to her that he won't fire her, although it was mentioned how she was recently put on notice by the network, prior to her current weight loss journey, to shape up or ship out, in so many words, like more along the lines of show enthusiasm, bring back previous peppy Maxie.

by Anonymousreply 153April 25, 2024 9:51 PM

R140 R143 IA but I'm thinking they're giving Dex to Jason as a way to prevent Sonny from killing him, like Dante as his father would've stopped that as well. Jagger being his parent would've definitely not stopped Sonny. Also, Korte wants to create this whole circle with Carly, Jason, Michael, Josslyn and Dex, so I guess if he's AJ's it wouldn't exactly fit to her. On the bright side, Korte has to have final approval from the network, so Dex can still have his paternity changed, although it's Jason apparently, with possibly Courtney or Karen.

by Anonymousreply 154April 25, 2024 10:00 PM

R141 That's an excellent idea.

by Anonymousreply 155April 25, 2024 10:00 PM

R145 😆 😆

by Anonymousreply 156April 25, 2024 10:01 PM

R146 That's what some are thinking:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 157April 25, 2024 10:04 PM

R147 He keeps saying how he's enjoying where they're going with this storyline. He's also happy to be working more with Maura and also enamoured with Eva La Rue

by Anonymousreply 158April 25, 2024 10:06 PM

R148 😆 probably. What's interesting is that the head costume designer, Shawn Reeves, is really good friends with Laura Wright. He was designing costumes at GL when they met (even her wedding dress when Cassie married Richard) and she was instrumental in getting him hired at GH. Emme Rylan claimed that he would dress Lulu terribly because it was "personal," against her, for he's been accused of favoring some actors over others by choosing to dress his favorites better than those who aren't exactly his favorites.

by Anonymousreply 159April 25, 2024 10:17 PM

R149 Adam Huss filmed a one day stint in prison garb, when he interacts with someone. You're absolutely right though, there currently aren't any plans to bring him, or another actor, on full-time as Nikolas.

by Anonymousreply 160April 25, 2024 10:20 PM

How long are TPTB giving the show to "bring back lapsed viewers" before there's another regime shake up? Or is this it before it either gets disemboweled and sent to Hulu, or cancelled altogether?

by Anonymousreply 161April 25, 2024 10:23 PM

That monstrosity he had Emme/Lulu in at the Nurse's Ball when she was pregnant was so over the top ridiculous and unnecessary. He could have put her in something simple and they could have had strategic shots of furniture, her handbag and other characters blocking a full view of her.

LW needs to reassess her friendship with her wardrobe guy, I think he secretly hates her. Although she could stand to lose a couple of pounds (not a lot, 10-15 tops), the utilitarian outfits (uniforms) he puts her in are so drab and frumpy. Compare that to 70-year-old Melody Scott Thomas (Thomas Scott??) on Y&R, she is dressed well from clips I see.

by Anonymousreply 162April 25, 2024 10:33 PM

R161 No exact time limit was given, although they're supposedly not into the whole wait "years and years" game anymore, so Korte/Mulcahey aren't exactly "end all, be all." There's also talk of Mulcahey exiting if he becomes too dissatisfied, to join his other bestie MVJ at The Gates. Execs aren't always upfront with their ideas, however, the network is apparently committed to having GH on ABC in the foreseeable future, with strictly steaming or outright cancellation not on their radar, as of now.

by Anonymousreply 163April 25, 2024 10:37 PM

R162 Right there's barely any outfits that Emme's Lulu were in that seemed flattering, with that being possibly the worst, if not then definitely one of the more dreadful ones. Especially when there are obvious ways to conceal someone's pregnancy without making them look ridiculous.

Honestly, I believe that he secretly despises LW too 😆 for she hardly ever looks good. Especially in comparison to Cynthia/Maura, who's outfits are almost always nice. It's rare when he has LW in flattering attire. She has been getting somewhat heavier, possibly from all the good food and good dick from Wes, 😊 perhaps? Utilitarian lol right definitely not on the same level as MTS on Y&R, seeing how she is supposed to be GH's Nikki by Frank's standards.

by Anonymousreply 164April 25, 2024 10:49 PM

Someone on the Have You Ever Hooked Up with a Celebrity thread is claiming to have been with both Travis and Jacson Montgomery from AMC. I knew about Travis but Walt W illey is news to me. Were all of La Lucci's husbands gay? Did Susan's husband insist on it?

by Anonymousreply 165April 25, 2024 11:16 PM

Just speculating, but did something happen between Mo and CW? He seems to have taken the breakup of their characters a little too easily after all the gushing about how he loved working with CW? Or was it fake Hollywood gushing? Although he never gushed about LW...

by Anonymousreply 166April 25, 2024 11:19 PM

R165 😆 No all of Erica's ex-husbands weren't gay irl. Never heard anything about her husband Helmut Huber insisting on her having a clause being with gay men exclusively, although that would be an interesting provision.

I remember once Regis asked Lucci (on Live!) why was Helmut always lurking around, watching her along with everyone she interacted with. She laughed it off, saying something about Helmut just being protective, while Regis compared him to Quasimodo or something, saying it was sort of creepy, jokingly of course with traces of truth in it.

by Anonymousreply 167April 25, 2024 11:38 PM

R166 No it wasn't fake gushing lol he really likes Cynthia and was upset about the network/writers wanting to break them up. He never really liked working with Laura's Carly lol but he was initially upset about them breaking up Sonny and Nina. It seems like he's adjusting to it because he gets to work with both Maura and Eva La Rue, also with his current story about his medication being tampered with. He's already mentioned how Sonny's going to get worse soon, so being in a front burner story is making him happy too.

by Anonymousreply 168April 25, 2024 11:42 PM

I was joking about Susan's husband, I should have made that clear. 😊

I thought Walt was married to a woman with kids....not that that means anything in showbiz...

by Anonymousreply 170April 26, 2024 12:08 AM

Adam Harrington is dipping his toe back into X with safe and innocuous comments and photos about how massive the lighting behind the scenes is. Doesn't seem to be answering anyone's off topic questions about storyline like he previously did. Definitely playing it safe.

by Anonymousreply 171April 26, 2024 12:25 AM

R169 Oh sorry about that lol just wasn't aware of any clause if you weren't joking, although you know as well as I do that actors do sometimes have clauses in their contracts, or like in the case of GH, they don't necessarily even have to have anything written, for the network and writers were interested in busting up Ned and Olivia, in favor of a Ned and Lois reunion. Wally and Rena both agreed that out of respect of their current spouses, they felt that it would be disrespectful to reunite them, so they believed it would be in everyone's best interest that they remain exes, in an effort to keep the peace.

by Anonymousreply 172April 26, 2024 12:47 AM

R169 Right he's been married a couple of times, believe he has a couple of kids too. Right that doesn't necessarily mean anything though.

Take this with a caring of salt: there's a storyline idea on the table where Danny accidentally shoots Jake, causing brain damage, ala AJ/Jason's accident retold. Although Jake survives, it'll create a ripple effect between their families, particularly Liz, Sam and Jason. Jake will become a completely different person; he'll have a personality more in sync with Jason's, becoming rebellious and withdrawn. Jake would also resort to pushing Elizabeth away, in favor of forging closer bonds and stronger relationships with primarily both Jason and Carly.

by Anonymousreply 178April 26, 2024 1:36 AM

Will Violet write and sing a song dedicated to Carly?

Will Danny and Scout ask their newly re-instated lawyer grandma Alexis to have the Court name Carly their guardian.

by Anonymousreply 183April 26, 2024 3:47 PM

R181 Honestly, its beyond ridiculous at this point. Korte probably would actually consider all of those if she wouldn't get any pushback from the network. The Carly propping is excessive.

by Anonymousreply 184April 26, 2024 4:15 PM

R183 Right. Favoritism and preferences towards some actors over others, especially when their characters aren't necessarily required on a regular basis, or have overstayed their welcome, is not good for the show.

by Anonymousreply 193April 26, 2024 9:53 PM

R191 She originally wanted to accept Carly's offer to work at the Metro Court, until Olivia reminded her that by choosing to work at the Quartermaine's, she'd essentially get to feed Cody a few times a week, for he shows up for meals. Sasha's face lit up, then she accepted the offer not too long after that.

by Anonymousreply 194April 26, 2024 10:04 PM

R192 Apparently they're keeping him because they didn't want to fully let him go, seeing how he's been in the hw position from 2017 until his firing.

On a more darker note, he knows about certain skeletons in the networks closet, which he could've used in the lawsuit that Dan O'Connor is planning to file against them, for wrongful termination. Keeping Chris helps them from having to deal with a joint lawsuit against ABC/Disney.

by Anonymousreply 195April 26, 2024 10:09 PM

R187 Interestingly enough, seems more criticism started to come her way when she became involved with a lesbian while also battling Carly's daughter. At first it was mixed, primarily because of an attachment to Lexi from many, now it seems overly critical. The lesbianism and disrespecting Josslyn has Fraus fingerprints all over it, imo

by Anonymousreply 196April 26, 2024 10:13 PM

R189 Agreed. Unfortunately the network has no use for Elizabeth, unless she's promoting favorites or propping Frank's OLTL hires. Other than that, they see no value. She would've been great with Gregory if he were Jeff.

by Anonymousreply 197April 26, 2024 10:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 199April 26, 2024 11:45 PM

No use for Liz. No they give the Finn character the family on canvas. Like the idea of him being Jeff. Hated the casting and storyline with her mother. Would have loved that story maybe with a Fiona Hutchinson. Sarah is a recast they should consider. A doctor. Could get a soap name. Christie Clark?

by Anonymousreply 200April 27, 2024 12:03 AM

R200 Right Gregory should've definitely been Jeff. The guy they hired as the Jeff recast looked more like Luke. Also Denise Crosby as her mother seemed miscast as well; it would've been nice to see Fiona in that role, although I don't know where she stands with Frank. Christie Clark, what's interesting is that if she were to play Sarah, it would be a full circle moment since she played a minor role on GH in the 90's, believe her name was Cindy? Nevertheless, great ideas except they're just not invested in Elizabeth enough to care about her family.

by Anonymousreply 201April 27, 2024 12:56 AM

Steve Burton is non too thrilled with the prospect of Jason being Dex's father; he thinks it'll be a retread of Sonny/Dante first learning their related, along with how Dex being Jason's son will make him feel old ("jokingly,"). Steve means it though, because he never really wanted Jason to have any bio children of his own to begin with.

by Anonymousreply 202April 27, 2024 1:02 AM

Dex would work better as AJ's son.

Maybe once the get the initial Jason storyline out of the way, they can discovered that AJ is really the father.

by Anonymousreply 203April 27, 2024 1:28 AM

R203 Looks like Steve would probably welcome that too. Especially since he isn't necessarily counting Michael as Jason's kid, for there wasn't any mention of Michael making him feel old, having kids of his own and whatnot. Guess it's a big difference to him between a grown surrogate son/nephew and a biological son.

Steve Burton is 53, and looks it. He is absolutely old enough to have an adult child, let alone on a soap opera where a decade separates generations. He's older now than Jackie Zeman was when Michael was born, thus making her a GRANDMOTHER.

Korte's fascination with Carly -- in a cast filled with so many other more talented actresses IMHO and her rumored dislike of Elizabeth -- makes her one of the most interesting characters in daytime.

It's no secret that there are millions (hundreds of thousands?) of fans out there who'd love to craft stories for their favorite soap characters. SHE gets to live out that fantasy. What must that be like?

Phelps was known for hiring her pals because God forbid she should go into a job and work with what she has. Though in fairness, everyone hires their friends in show business.

Jill mentioned on a Locher Room something about GL needing "A listers" -- so she brings in actors from Santa Barbara, a lower-rated serial.

If I were in charge of GL, I would have worked damn hard to keep McKinsey happy and worked at bringing Grant A. back ASAP.

In a few years, you'd tune in to GL and see Marj, Marcy, Justin Deas...that guy who play Bunny. Elena did a short-term role as the most beautiful hitwoman in soaps. Christopher Norris played the defense attorney who sided with Vanessa's attacker.

It's a wonder A didn't pop up but it was the 1990s and he was still busy in prime time.

There were quite a few GH fan club events held this weekend; The Ladies of GH Luncheon featuring Finola Hughes, Laura Wright, Cynthia Watros & Tabyana Ali; an event with Dominic Zamprogna; a joint event with Michael Easton & Evan Hofer. Some info from them:

Cynthia revealed that her friendship with Maura goes back to when they attended college together.

Finola spilled Valentin & Nina hooking up; Cynthia tried cleaning that up, though it was taken as sexually from Finola's way of saying it.

Laura stated that everyone knows Carly & Jason are going to end up together; she also referenced CarJax's love story, Morgan's exit and both of Jason returns as her favorite storylines.

Tabyana seems upbeat about the future for Trina.

Carly & Anna are also going to have a huge argument coming soon, per Laura Wright.

How big were the meltdowns?

by Anonymousreply 231April 28, 2024 1:54 PM

R232 😁 😁 bigger online. He's being accused of letting Monsters go to his head or having his handlers dissuade him from associating with the Trina's, or anything related to Spencer, for he primarily unfollowed Tabyana, Sydney Mikayla, Avery and Frank.

by Anonymousreply 232April 28, 2024 4:56 PM

Did NAC unfollow Eden?

Did NAC ever capitulate and kiss Mo's ring as expected and required? Or is he one of those "disrespectful young actors" Mo and Chad were referring to when Chad was on Mo's show?? Why didn't NAC want to be mentored by a sputtering choppy actor/egomaniac past his prime and reading from cue cards?? [bold]WHY?[/bold] 🤣

by Anonymousreply 233April 28, 2024 5:12 PM

Only in the minds of fans would somebody be expected to stay in constant contact with their ex-coworkers after changing jobs.

NAC started shooting Monsters the day after wrapping GH, IIRC. The show is still shooting—or at least it was last week. Murphy productions are known for their grueling shoots and 15-hour days. I can’t really blaming for being focused on the task at hand.

by Anonymousreply 234April 28, 2024 5:27 PM

I think the issue is he unfollowed certain people, which I personally find hilarious. I loathe soap fanbases, but that sprina fanbase was particularly repugnant.

by Anonymousreply 235April 28, 2024 5:34 PM

I agree r234, I don't keep in touch with former co-workers, they aren't my real friends.

However, I think soap fans buy the PR propaganda when actors bang on about how they are all so close and "like family" and are especially disillusioned when it doesn't turn out to be true what with all the romances, super couples, etc.

Think how disappointed we all were when it came out Betty White and Bea Arthur weren't really buddies. 🤣

by Anonymousreply 236April 28, 2024 5:44 PM

But even the unfollowing is kinda silly, R235–most actors have private accounts that they use to actually interact with people they know. It’s probably a junior exec at his PR firm that’s following and unfollowing people based on how they think it will affect the algorithm.

by Anonymousreply 237April 28, 2024 5:49 PM

R187 because she's so affected in her choices; fans are posting clips from year as ago of Lexi's Kristina blasting Sonny for stuff that Kate's Kristina is just finding out now.

That's not Kate's fault necessarily, Patrick dies t know the history, it appears.

Should Korte be saying to him ' Kristina knows all this.' ? Should Frank? Nathan?

And how much of the GH experts here translate into lost viewers?

by Anonymousreply 238April 28, 2024 9:26 PM
And how much of the GH experts here translate into lost viewers?

MANY!

by Anonymousreply 239April 28, 2024 9:41 PM

R233 Eden, along with Evan, as well as a few others from GH, are still being followed by NAC.

R235 That's what's bothering a lot of Sprina fans, the fact that he's seemingly being selective by following certain former co-workers while unfollowing others.

R237 Some are justifying it by saying it has to be a PR team member who's picking and choosing to keep following and/or unfollowing certain actors. They refuse to accept that he's doing this on his own.

by Anonymousreply 240April 28, 2024 9:48 PM

SPOILER Marcy Walker coming to Port Charles. The new Alexandria Quartermaine.

by Anonymousreply 241April 28, 2024 9:56 PM

R238 Right Mulcahey doesn't know the history all that well. Korte, who's been there since 1994, is actually in charge of continuity, well before she became HW, that was part of her position when she was AHW, so it is on her, Frank and Nathan to catch him up to speed.

Korte has never really liked Kristina, so it's possible that she just didn't care enough to pay attention to the discrepancies, while the whole Kristina vs. Josslyn battle was actually something Frank/Nathan were starting to push by signing off on it last year, along with furthering Josslyn's underlying distaste for the coffee importer. Mulcahey and Korte are just continuing on with it.

Sonny is being used as the reason because Kristina against Josslyn is the story they want, so another possibility is ignoring what happened with Lexi's Kristina, in order to advance this feud. Personally, I think they would've been better off having Dex be the main reason why Kristina and Josslyn aren't getting along, with him being stuck in the middle of the two of them. The producers, however, who were filling in as temp writers while the guild were picketing, preferred Kristina with Blaze over Kristina and Dex.

by Anonymousreply 242April 28, 2024 10:05 PM

You all make this Korte person sound unhinged. She's obsessed with this character, but doesn't like that character and doesn't care about the character over there, but this one here has to win all the time.

I've heard of headwriters not liking particular actors and writing fucked up material for them, but never the characters. When headwriters don't like characters, they write them out or assign their stories to others. Now that she's headwriter, why not just write out all of the characters she hates?

by Anonymousreply 243April 28, 2024 10:19 PM

R243 😆 ironically, she has been referred to as "unhinged" several times over the years. She's as obsessed with Carly as Guza was with Jason, vicariously living out their fantasies throughout the lives of their favorite characters.

Actually, that's a very good point however head writers don't have the authority to simply write a character out. Usually if they have an issue with the actor and/or character, they'll either write out their anger passive aggressively by taking it out on the character, or delegate that characters' actions to another co-hw, if there is one onboard, so you're absolutely right.

In order for an actor or character to he written out of the show, it has to come from the Executive Producer or the network, or both (the EP has to get permission from the network, for in some cases, the EP could want an actor or characters out, yet it'll be up to the network to sign off on it. Otherwise, the EP will be "stuck" with said actor and/or character)

Now head writers can absolutely suggest writing an actor or character out, if they don't want them on anymore, or feel that they don't have any use for them. It would then fall on the EP or network to either get rid of them or recast. Frank has, well had, power yet if he actually wanted someone out, as in the case of quite a few, the network would have to first agree to fire them.

by Anonymousreply 244April 28, 2024 11:11 PM

R243, unhinged?

She's a fan, at heart.

Of course, she's unhinged.

by Anonymousreply 245April 28, 2024 11:14 PM

Frank still has power, btw, just at a reduced rate. The network stepped in and decided to strip both Frank and Maurice of certain liberties. For the longest time, both Frank and Maurice were running things as they saw fit. The network chose to stop letting them do so, moreso Maurice than Frank, although Frank has somewhat of a babysitter (many believe Nathan Varni) overseeing him.

by Anonymousreply 246April 28, 2024 11:19 PM

Why is Kin taking photos with Martha Byrne? Is she Frank's latest rescue?

by Anonymousreply 247April 28, 2024 11:19 PM

R245 Definitely 😁 she's a Carly Spencer Fangirl Forever

by Anonymousreply 248April 28, 2024 11:21 PM

R247 😆 remember she was already on GH as Andrea Floyd, the mayors wife, in 2009. She also appeared on Maurice's YouTube show not that long ago.

Prior to being on GH with Kin, she also knew him from his brief stint as Keith on ATWT, where he originally got to know Martha, along w/MW.

by Anonymousreply 249April 28, 2024 11:27 PM

Maurice uses some kind of hearing aide in one ear. It' there to help him with his lines - some crew member is giving him his lines. The camera man trys to be to careful - but I have seen it a couple times - once someone told me about it.

by Anonymousreply 250April 29, 2024 12:40 AM

I heard a story that ABC and Guza back around 2009 were interested in bringing on big names from other soaps to boost GH's ratings. That's how we got Martha. Someone said to either a producer or a writer at GH: "Great! I've got three big soap names you should bring on -- Stuart Damon, Rachel Ames and Denise fucking Alexander."

Real hasn't addressed his latest exile as far as I know but he has made videos in his car declaring "I am ready, willing and able to deliver EXCELLENT work anytime GH needs me" which I found odd and kind of sad.

Also wearing a dress shirt and tie on Mo's show recently seemed a bit over the top. Was that to prove he's got his act together? I didn't watch so I don't know what he said, just saw the thumbnail.

by Anonymousreply 257April 29, 2024 8:04 PM

don't these people realize that when they're cast on a soap -- after they beat out five other contenders who signed deals prior to the screentest -- and the hundreds of others who submitted for the part -- that THEIR FUCKING SHIP HAS COME IN???

Show up on time, know your lines, kiss Maurice's ass when you need to, and be GRATEFUL.

Earn hundreds of thousands of dollars per year for years, earn a pension, be a big star or a small star in an even smaller pond and be grateful.

by Anonymousreply 258April 29, 2024 8:19 PM

I agree r258. Being cast on a soap is hitting the jackpot. A steady paycheck, something elusive to actors more often than not.

Which is why I don't understand when someone gets pissed over something non-egregious and walks away. Especially if they are of a certain age. i.e. 40-year-old Kelly Thiebaud. Yes, what they did to her was not right but she still had a steady paycheck and wasn't in any danger. Everyone in every industry at every level endures injustices of varying degrees daily, except the spawn of the owner of the company. If you aren't being harassed, harmed, or pushed out, suck it up and stick it out.

Even Jane Elliott said she regretted leaving GH early on. The lapses in employment hurt her financially.

R250 Not excusing him using cue cards and hearing aids, but apparently his current medication, which he's been on for a few years, affects his memory.

by Anonymousreply 261April 29, 2024 11:58 PM

R262 Even years before that, ABC, along with other networks as well, were always scouting for talent from other soaps. GH found themselves in trouble back in 2001 when Jensen Buchanan and her then agent were sued by Procter & Gamble, with the producers of ATWT, for breach of contract and violating a non-compete clause.

Jensen had briefly brought her AW character Vicky McKinnon over to ATWT, upon AW's cancellation. ATWT felt that by appearing on GH, Jensen, who was a popular soap actress at that time, would essentially bring new viewers to GH, a competing soap on another network, resulting in revenue dollars being lost, especially since she was set to debut during the crucial start of the February Sweeps period. They also sued her then agent as well. Jensen was brought over to GH by her good friend Jill Farren Phelps; at one point, Jensen had relocated her family to Los Angeles, so she was pulling double duty going back and forth from LA to NY to film both shows. In an effort to clear up any confusion, GH temporarily recast Melissa with Sharisse Baker-Bernard, which led to the lawsuit being dropped.

by Anonymousreply 262April 30, 2024 12:12 AM

R253 R254 R255 That's sad. Addiction can really ruin things. For them to finally bring him back on their own, after he was practically begging them, says something about them now seemingly have moved on from him. For what its worth, his history with Michele val Jean could soon work in his favor.

by Anonymousreply 263April 30, 2024 12:17 AM

R256 R257 😆 😆 that laugh and clomping is all LW. She's playing herself, she doesn't know how to play a role as complex as Carly. She's even admitted that Jill instructed her to stop trying to emulate all the other Carly's before her, so from that day on, according to her, she took it upon herself to make Carly her own, which is actually herself.

She's also pissed because that "Ladies of GH Luncheon" over the weekend was secretly recorded by a fan and shared online. A statement was released indicating that anyone who's behind the leak is in violation, something to that effect. At the luncheon, she went on and on about how kissing Steve Burton, the few times she did, made her weak in the knees, how Jason and Carly will end up together, etc. She's completely delusionally in love with Steve and Jason, to the point that she's barely separating the two. Not too much different than how she can't separate herself from Carly.

by Anonymousreply 264April 30, 2024 12:25 AM

Is LW trying to make younger Wes jealous with all her fawning over Jason/Steve? Steve is single whereas I don't think Charles Mesure or Adam Harrington are and neither is Drewfus aka Cameron Mathison.

by Anonymousreply 265April 30, 2024 12:35 AM

R258 What's interesting about that is when Josh Swickard and the other four or five guys who were all selected as the primary guys to play Peter August, with Josh being the frontrunner, they all were sent home after Frank decided to do LW a favor by shoehorning Wes in the role. Luckily for Josh, Frank contacted him for the newly created role of Chase several months afterwards. So although some do see soaps as a step down or not worth their time, securing a prime role on a soap is a big deal.

I know you're referring to Nicholas Alexander Chavez, although there was an instance in the mid 90s where a guy actually dismissed the entire idea of soaps. George Pilgrim had landed a role as J Chamberlain on Guiding Light, the son of Nola & Quint. Once fired and replaced with Ethan Erickson, George went ballistic, blasting the entire soap industry, saying he should've never appeared on a soap for it's a step down in his career, that he'll never do a soap again, etc. He went on and on about how doing a soap was a huge mistake. Needless to say, his acting career didn't exactly go the way he thought that it would.

by Anonymousreply 266April 30, 2024 12:38 AM

R259 In your opinion, did Kelly Thiebaud make a mistake? She was thoroughly disappointed with her storyline after being shut out of a Britt/Jason romance, at the request of LW. When Steve left, it was official that they didn't have any plans for her besides propping Cody, which she detested. She probably felt that with Steve being there, even though Jason/Carly were "the story," she still had a chance with Sonny coming back from Nixon Falls and the inevitable Carson reunion. Steve leaving because of the mandate was what solidified Jason's departure, so from then on she knew there wasn't a chance. She might've jumped the gun because not only did he return, her overseas romance didn't work out. She had all her eggs in one basket when she asked Frank to have Britt killed off, for she was absolutely certain that she wouldn't need to walk through the doors of GH ever again. Now she's interested in a return.

by Anonymousreply 267April 30, 2024 12:45 AM

R265 You might be on to something lol for she has been laying it on pretty thick lately. There's also those rumors of her relationship with Wes as being nothing more than a "Sugar Mama" situation, which she has to be aware of, since she stays online. That could also be why she's really hoping Wes can return to GH in another role.

As for Steve being single, he may or may not have been hooking up with Chad's ex ("ex-wife" if you count that commitment ceremony) Courtney Hope (Sally Spectra, B&B/Y&R) although they're playing the whole "just friends" angle. After Steve's wife left him, it coincided somewhat with Courtney and Mark Grossman (Adam, Y&R) taking a break, which eventually led to them breaking up.

Steve and Courtney apparently became closer than close, which would be interesting, not just because of the whole Steve/Chad dynamic, but Chad's dick has been labeled as big in comparison to Steve's.

by Anonymousreply 268April 30, 2024 1:06 AM

Steve and his wife's marriage dissolved in 2022, during her first pregnancy post-Steve. Courtney and Mark were together after he was involved with Sharon Case (Sharon, Y&R) for three years; Courtney and Mark's relationship came to a conclusion in 2023, which is when Steve and Courtney seemed to take their friendship to another level. So although it wasn't exactly after his separation when they were spotted together, it wasn't too long after Courtney's breakup with Mark.

by Anonymousreply 269April 30, 2024 1:18 AM

r267, I do think KT made a mistake leaving, a knee jerk reaction. Not that I don't agree that the whole Cody thing was ridiculous and I'm angry for her that LW was able to sabotage the Britt/Jason pairing that was well received by a lot of viewers.

Being a Server/Bartender can't possibly be better than being on a soap and in a storyline you don't love.

Also, she's not at an ideal age for her career to take off in primetime or movies. Although that might happen, the chances are slim at this point despite her being attractive and both a good comedic and dramatic actress.

People put up with far, far worse at their jobs than a bad storyline and a not ideal scene partner.

That being said, a twin would work in this situation to bring her back. Her cousin Nina had twins, so it runs in the family. I'd prefer she came back as a twin rather than a totally difference character as I would like her return to also usher Dr. O. back.

by Anonymousreply 270April 30, 2024 1:30 AM

R271 IA that it was definitely a knee jerk reaction on her part, while I also believe she made somewhat of a mistake, although I suppose she did what she felt was best for her at the time. She probably regrets leaving in the manner that she did, for she seemed to believe that not only was Steve not coming back, her relationship was for keeps, based on her actions.

Asking that your character is killed off by practically guaranteeing you won't ever be back, particularly at a more seasoned age, is a little extreme. I think she might've overestimated her opportunities, for her brief role on Station 19 that some were wondering would turn into a regular role didn't exactly pan out that way. However, there's still a chance, albeit slim, for her to still land on a bigger show than GH.

True being a server/bartender isn't exactly ideal for an older soap star, nor is walking away in regards to a bad storyline, unless there's really something concrete to have as a landing to fall back on. She has mentioned that she would like to try her hand at hosting, possibly a game show.

Ultimately, the network and Frank can decide to extend an offer to her again. Frank was actually who reached out to her, via text, saying "Call me" when she received her last contract offer. The primary difference this time is that every other time she exited, it was mostly storyline dictated. This one was of her own doing, in what was assumed to be a permanent way, so it might be the other way around this time, with her reaching out to them.

The way she left, with the whole going away ceremony, should probably not be undone, so a twin would be the more logical way to go.

by Anonymousreply 271April 30, 2024 10:42 AM

R271 was actually for you R270 I mentioned myself lol

by Anonymousreply 272April 30, 2024 10:46 AM

My (probably unpopular) opinion is that everyone currently on a soap never wanted to be on a soap, they just ended up on soaps and some stayed because it was better than waiting tables or they started a family and realized how convenient being a soap actor is with raising a family. Not all, but I do believe that most actors, by nature, want to play many different roles in many different productions across the spectrum and not be limited to one character for 20 years - unless you're making a million dollars an episode like Mariska Hargitay.

Soap actors are the hardest working actors in the business, but don't see the kinds of benefits or respect or accolades that actors in other non-soap productions receive. A soap actor can have 5 Daytime Emmys, but it means nothing outside of daytime. Judith Light knocked it out of the park on OLTL, but is truly only known for Who's the Boss and her numerous primetime guest spots over the years. When she's on a talk show and they bring out that Karen on the witness stand clip, it's not lauded as high drama, but met with giggles. Susan Lucci brought attention to the Daytime Emmys not because of her work, but because she kept losing and it became a punchline.

To land this plane, I'll wrap up by saying that soap work is the blue collar work of acting. While it may be better than some alternatives, for most actors the money is not all that great and the hours are far too long and backstage politics are far too tough to navigate to want to stick around for another contract. There's always real estate.

by Anonymousreply 273April 30, 2024 12:21 PM

Although the lack of rehearsals and only one or two takes must be high stress, I thought soap actors, or specifically GH actors, had a pretty nice schedule?

Only work a couple of days a week and blocks of time throughout the year when they are "dark" and not working at all for a few weeks. Do I have this wrong?

Maura is the perfect example of someone who stuck around soaps for the set schedule and steady income so she could have a bunch of kids. She has no other credits besides soaps. Other actresses at least do a guest appearance here and there over the years. She did have to take a demotion in status when she went from lead at ATWT to secondary on GH but I imagine she still commands a nice salary for less work.

by Anonymousreply 274April 30, 2024 12:41 PM
I thought soap actors, or specifically GH actors, had a pretty nice schedule?

I think "nice schedule" is subjective. Soaps are no longer filming one episode a day, it's now 2 or 3 episodes a day. Multiple directors, multiple wardrobe changes, multiple script pages. I do believe that a few actors have first in/first out clauses in their contract. But most actors don't have the kind of clout for that kind of clause, that's reserved for the big names.

"Nice salary" is also subjective. For as good as Maura West is, I bet Steve Burton returned to the show making double what Maura's making.

LW just makes matters worse with her incessant responding to criticism she isn't tagged in.

For the past couple of weeks it's been endless articles from the soap sites about LW "weighing in" on Jason and everything else under the sun. Now the running joke is "LW weighs in on weighing in".

It would behoove her to STFU. Is she bored with Wes and has to read every last X #GH comment to fill her time? She comes off unhinged not cool with her xoxoxo.

by Anonymousreply 278April 30, 2024 8:38 PM

I'm not going to link any more of LW's tweets but she is continuing to blather on about how she just did one interview and SOD chose to break it up into multiple interviews and that's why it seems she's doing tons of interviews.

NLG is also going on about how poor Hayley Pullos has "suffered tremendously" and has "taken her lumps" and shouldn't have to be in the "filth and despair" of a jail. This stance is not well received either. The crowd pointing out that if the situation was reversed and Hayley had been injured by a drunk driver NLG would be calling for the driver to be given a severe punishment.

They both need to shut up. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 282April 30, 2024 10:07 PM

Josh Taylor once said "wanna hear an actor complain? Give 'em a job."

I get it. Light probably made more in three months on Who's the Boss than she did in 3 years on OLTL.

When soaps are great, there's nothing better but people would rather hold a spear in a Gerad Butler movie than play a cancer storyline on soaps.

by Anonymousreply 283April 30, 2024 10:11 PM

I remember Josh Taylor as Chris SCROTCHYSCRATCH.

Him of the tight jeans that often needed rearranging.

by Anonymousreply 284April 30, 2024 10:45 PM

R273 👏 👏 👏 👏 excellent points. What's interesting is that many actors site wanting to branch out into other roles as one of their main reasons for exiting their prospective soaps. The ones with families who have set up roots nearby the studio locations of their soaps usually become settled in their lives as soap actors and think nothing of leaving.

There's also those who have exited soaps, only to return either to their original soaps or a competing soap, after testing the waters in film and prime-time; for one reason or another, a career outside of soaps just didn't pan out.

Judith Light was fantastic as Karen Wolek on OLTL. Although slightly before my time, I saw clips of her performances over the years. I remember reading about Judith going on a hike with her good friend Robin Strasser in LA, after Robin had quit OLTL. Robin said it was difficult finding work in Hollywood; besides guest appearances here and there on Matlock and such, she couldn't find steady employment (at this time, Robin was over 40). She went on and on about the struggles of finding substantial work in the industry outside of soaps, in comparison to the safety net provided by a career in soaps. Judith listened to her and said, "You want to go back to OLTL, don't you?" which Robin confirmed. Not too long after that, Robin was back as Dorian.

Soaps are definitely the blue collar version of acting. I've actually heard soap actors refer to themselves as that, saying how theater actors are the closest to soap actors in that aspect, with a lot of soap actors either coming from Broadway or doing double duty during their soap stints.

by Anonymousreply 285May 1, 2024 5:45 AM

R274 R275 Conversations such as these tend to remind me of when Kristen Alderson quit GH after Frank offered her a contract renewal with a pay cut; instead of $2000 per episode, I believe he went down to either $1000 or $1500 per show. Kristen balked and ended up walking away, only to try returning several different times, which Frank constantly ignored. At one point she became a realtor, which as R273 mentioned, is pretty much a go-to career for former (or in between gigs) soap actors.

by Anonymousreply 286May 1, 2024 5:52 AM

R276 Lol a pretty big adjustment. Steve's 53, Chad's 36, while Courtney's 34.

by Anonymousreply 287May 1, 2024 5:55 AM

R278 Isn't her tweet edited? She has another one where she came off really meanspirited. What's crazy about her behavior is that sometimes she responds to tweets that she wasn't even tagged in, or they're speaking badly about Carly, which she internalizes because she feels that she is Carly. She constantly stays on there arguing with ppl or taking offense to something someone mentions, such as why are the soap mags constantly seeking her out for interviews, which set her off. It's rare when she's justifiably upset, such as someone recording and leaking "The Ladies of GH Luncheon" event she attended, that is actually warranted. However being upset over fans complaining that she gives too many interviews, while asking are there other actors from GH they can contact besides her 😆 is extreme, even for her. She's oversensitive because she knows that she's not really anyone's preferred Carly, so it's bothering her.

by Anonymousreply 288May 1, 2024 6:05 AM

The network is apparently now reconsidering a Spencer recast. Although Trina is supposed to connect with Lois's nephew Giovanni, who's a trained violinist outside of GH (and expected to play the violin at Brook Lynn & Chase's nuptials) Giovanni might only be on to keep Trina's attention until Spencer comes back.

by Anonymousreply 289May 1, 2024 6:11 AM

Kristen Alderson also waitressed and babysat after GH and tried to spin it as it was "so much fun" and she always wanted to try being a Server. She said this on Mo's show I believe, she also told Mo when she was living with Chad he didn't like her family coming to visit and stay with them so often.

by Anonymousreply 290May 1, 2024 11:37 AM

I hope they milk this Ava shit for a while. MW is FINALLY back in the mix, and she looks A-MAZ-ING. Bringing Burton back has really lit this show up. Also just go ahead and make Nina a full-fledged villain and aim her at Carly, Ava, and Sonny. Hell, throw in the Davis women too.

by Anonymousreply 291May 1, 2024 12:10 PM

Ratings were abysmal last week, back under 2 million viewers and tying lows in the demo. Hope that Burton salary was worth it.

I think Ingo was making $3500 per ep before he got sacked, according to his court claim. Seemed low for such a vet.

Jane Elliott is on an ep of Barnaby Jones airing now on Pluto. She has aged incredibly well.

Although Y&R/B&B apparently pays somewhat higher than DOOL/GH

by Anonymousreply 296May 1, 2024 4:24 PM

Any idea what a newbie like NAC would have been making?

by Anonymousreply 297May 1, 2024 4:30 PM

R290 Oh that's right she did try her hand at babysitting and serving, for iirc she was made fun of for taking jobs that were more suited for a teenage girl, either in high school or college (ironically she also went back to school if I'm not mistaken). She also kept submitting herself for other soap roles as well, most notably as a Summer Newman recast on Y&R when Hunter King wouldn't return.

by Anonymousreply 298May 1, 2024 4:30 PM
There's also those who have exited soaps, only to return either to their original soaps or a competing soap, after testing the waters in film and prime-time; for one reason or another, a career outside of soaps just didn't pan out.

It really is a matter of timing. I think with both Strasser and Zimmer, their serious go at Hollywood and/or nighttime TV was just a little too late. Strasser was definitely a little too old to do much other than occasional guest spots by the time she arrived on the West Coast in the late 80s. Zimmer was a bit younger but her West Coast attempt came at a time where she was at a weird age - too old to be the ingenue, too young to play someone's mother. Plus she got screwed over by Linda Bloodworth Thomasen, who was supposed to give her the lead in Evening Shade.

by Anonymousreply 299May 1, 2024 4:38 PM

R297 Since he was still under his original "rookie" contract, at least about $1000 per show, with a three show a week guarantee, so roughly around $3000 per week/$12000 per month/$144000 before taxes, per year? Although ABC/Disney were willing to offer him a significant pay raise with plenty of outs, to appear in other projects, had he re-signed.

The network, btw, still wants him back. They're supposedly going back & forth as to whether or not to recast Spencer, or just wait for him to come back. They want Spencer on canvas, particularly NAC.

by Anonymousreply 300May 1, 2024 4:39 PM

I'd be very surprised if NAC even thinks about coming back. He's on the precipice of stardom, as soon as that Murphy show hits the air. He'd be a fool to return.

by Anonymousreply 301May 1, 2024 4:43 PM

R299 I totally agree for even Kim Zimmer herself admitted how she "stayed too long at the fair" by continuing her career in soaps instead of leaving. She was at least 35 when she left GL so I see what you mean, in regards to the whole "too old/too young" slippery slope that she found herself on. One good thing about her is that she would constantly tell younger performers on GL to "get out while you still can" instead of being stuck in soaps, with a lot of them heeding her advice.

I've heard something about that before, Evening Shade, what exactly happened there? How exactly did Linda screw her over? Kim was up for the lead role, that went to Marilu Henner, I believe? I've also heard about Linda herself being screwed over, wasn't she a mistress of Les Moonves, or he propositioned her in exchange for having her shows greenlit?

As for Robin Strasser, right she was at least 42 when she left OLTL. I've also heard about her being up for GL as an Alexandra Spaulding recast when Jill was there, upon returning as Dorian on OLTL in the early 90's.

by Anonymousreply 302May 1, 2024 4:52 PM

When the Murphy show comes out, NAC will be hitting the talk show circuit and the Daily Mail will start featuring him.

He will soon have an up-and-coming starlet girlfriend either naturally or prearranged by his publicist to give the celeb magazines and gossip sites something to write about and the paps a reason to chase him.

by Anonymousreply 303May 1, 2024 4:56 PM

R302 I think Linda told her that the role was hers, then Linda caved when CBS said they didn't want a no name in that role.

Robin was on a long list of actresses to take on Alexandra and went as far as talking with Jill Farren Phelps about it, but I guess once TPTB got wind of that at OLTL they asked her if she'd be interested in coming back.

by Anonymousreply 304May 1, 2024 4:56 PM

R301 Right. Honestly it seems like a fools bet if they're banking on him to return. Stranger things have happened of course, however after everything that transpired while he was there, particularly with Maurice and Chad indirectly calling him out, along with someone leaking stories about him supposedly being an asshole on set, which seems like a smear campaign, he could feel that it's not worth it. He's also being called out for unfollowing Avery and the Trina's, while also not keeping in contact with him. He seems to be interested in leaving GH behind him, now obviously if he really needed an income, all of those instances probably wouldn't be enough to keep him from returning. However the career trajectory he's currently on will probably catapult him beyond GH significantly, to the point where he wouldn't have to return.

by Anonymousreply 305May 1, 2024 5:00 PM

*He's also being called out for unfollowing Avery and the Trina's, while also not keeping in contact with them at R305

by Anonymousreply 306May 1, 2024 5:02 PM

R304 No name 😆 that's funny they would say that, especially since she was one of the biggest soap stars on their network back then, although soap stars were still stigmatized as second rate actors in the 80's/90's when it came to prime-time roles, unless it was for prime-time soaps.

Wasn't Kim also up for the lead role in Body Heat? Only for them to give Kathleen Turner the part, because she was also more of a name? If I'm not mistaken, around that same time, Kim was Kathleen's replacement on The Doctors, ironically enough

by Anonymousreply 307May 1, 2024 5:08 PM

Another possible bullying storyline for Aiden is coming up, also either Danny or Jake could be hurt soon.

by Anonymousreply 308May 1, 2024 5:11 PM

The Robin Strasser/Kim Zimmerman accounts of leaving soaps in their mid 30s/early 40s and not being able to make it are what I'm talking about in regard to Kelly T. She's 40 and although she's very attractive and 40 in 2024 looks way better than 40 in the 80s/90s, it's still not the ideal age in Hollywood.

I suppose she could be cast in a sitcom as the attractive wife of a shlubby husband with a couple of kids and a sister or neighbor who keeps popping in but that's been done to death.

I hope Kelly and Frank are able to reach a mutually beneficial arrangement.

by Anonymousreply 309May 1, 2024 5:13 PM

I'm still unclear as to how they are trying to lure back lapsed viewers. Burton's exit, like his return, barely registered, and his fans certainly didn't follow him to Y&R or DAYS. Many of the front-burner characters are new in the last decade, so there's no nostalgia. They write shit for Liz and Laura, so there's no rooting value. I don't see any PR asking viewers to "check back in to General Hospital" anywhere. If they can't get Marcil back for a bit, what else is there?

by Anonymousreply 310May 1, 2024 5:33 PM

I don't know if Kim auditioned for Body Heat or what the sequence of events was, but Kim appears briefly in Body Heat because she looked so similar to Turner. And of course by that time was playing Nola on the Doctors.

by Anonymousreply 315May 1, 2024 9:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 317May 1, 2024 9:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 318May 1, 2024 10:21 PM

R309 You're exactly right for although she may not look 40, the reality is that she is 40, which could be frowned upon, since she's not already a "big star" outside of soaps. The sitcom with a typical formula such as you described could work, except even those sometimes go for "a name" actor or actress themselves.

Coming to an agreement with Frank and the network would absolutely work out in her favor. There's also a chance to either return to DOOL, most likely in a different role, or even either of the Bell shows, yet they both seem pretty stacked in terms of that age range. The Gates is still a ways out, however some in particular are interested already, so she could land there as well.

by Anonymousreply 319May 1, 2024 10:39 PM

R310 Korte doesn't like the character of Liz, while Mulcahey has had issues with Genie in the past, stemming from his previous writing stint in the 90's, so without the network stepping in to mandate more leading material for both Laura and Liz, Korte and Mulcahey will continue to focus more on their faves and center everything around them. Carly, Anna for Korte and Alexis for Mulcahey are mainly catered to, although Mulcahey seems interested in Nina, which has a lot to do with him helping to develop Cynthia's Annie on GL.

Vanessa Marcil is interested in returning, even if it's for a short stint. The network would have to override Korte, for Brenda would take the shine that she's constantly trying to force on Carly. The closest that Vanessa is coming to GH is her Zoom event with Rena on Friday and the personal appearance event with Maurice in August.

by Anonymousreply 320May 1, 2024 10:50 PM

R311 Probably don't have to worry about them fucking this time around 😆 what's interesting is that if he would've returned as his previous character of Zander's father Cameron, that would've given him more screentime with Liz, which Korte is trying to avoid for as long as she possibly can, so him being Neil's brother instead works out in her favor.

by Anonymousreply 321May 1, 2024 10:54 PM

Take this with a grain of salt, GH is planning a big wave of summer stories after May Sweeps. The Brook Lynn/Chase wedding, instead of one of Frank's faves, the Nurses Ball, is their May Sweeps centerpiece.

by Anonymousreply 322May 1, 2024 10:56 PM

R312 Maurice and Chad wouldn't warmly welcome him back, however he has a few, such as JPS, MW, Eden, Evan, among others who would love to have NAC back. Hopefully his career takes off so he won't have to come back lol I don't think it's in his best interest to deal with that toxicity.

by Anonymousreply 323May 1, 2024 11:00 PM

R317 Fraus from Facebook are probably enjoying this. Did you know that someone, possibly from those Facebook Frau pages, sent Tabyana a noose as a gift? It was sent to their studio.

by Anonymousreply 326May 1, 2024 11:07 PM

What's the story between Mulcahey and Genie?

by Anonymousreply 327May 1, 2024 11:07 PM

R318 Possibly bi?

by Anonymousreply 328May 1, 2024 11:09 PM

R318 Lane is/was married to a woman, and they have two sons, now both in their 30s. I question the divorce, because one of their sons was born two years after the date listed for said divorce at IMDb, and current address records show that Lane and this (ex?) wife still reside at the same address in Georgia. So even if he's the kind of actor who experimented when he was younger, he'd be bisexual leaning straight.

Lane's one-time traveling companion, Todd McKee, isn't gay either. I think that's where all the rumors started. Todd's just extremely weird, or goofy, depending on your perspective. He married his current wife in 2012. When he recently turned 60, he put up a video which showed her and their daughter.

Writers were instructed not to write any kissing scenes between Tony and Genie. Genie also pushed for Laura and Stefan, all of that drama started the animosity between Tony and Genie. While not specifically stated, some viewed it, especially the gay writers and crew, as homophonic on Genie's part. It also sort of began Genie's downfall on the set, because most sided with Tony. There were a couple of informative threads about the situation here on DL back in the day.

Was Genie another one whose husband dictated what she could and couldn't do on a soap?

Surely Genie knew TG was gay long before the 90s. What changed? In the early 80s, the height the Aids crisis, she had no problem kissing TG before she left and after she returned and they had their reunion at the Mayor's mansion.

She got married in 1988...

R327 What R330 said 😁 here's an article for reference:

R331 Interesting observation. Not sure where I heard this before, but there was some sort of issue between Tony and Jonathan in the 90's, when Luke & Laura returned; I think it had more to do with Tony & Genie not getting along well, with Jonathan stepping in. It could just be a rumor, though it was mentioned.

*Jonathan Frakes at R333 not Jonathan Jackson 😊 just in case some may not know Genie's husband's name.

Adam Harrington making an appearance on the newest episode of AppleTV's Palm Royale as a Secret Service Agent.

I haven't watched that show but I know there's a DL thread about it.

R259 - I thought Jane Elliot came from money IRL

by Anonymousreply 338May 2, 2024 12:04 PM

I recall Jane even saying in one of those exit interviews she gave when she left GH a few years ago that Deirdre wrote her a check for rent money when she moved back to California years ago after NYC soaps.

Looks like Mo has either been recruited to help do damage control for LW or has volunteered in order to get more attention for his show.

He's attaching his past YouTube interview with LW to his X post today because "everyone loved it so much". He says he will being doing a Part Two with her VERY soon.

I guess she needs a platform to moan about being attacked on social media. I believe all the recent backlash started with her proclaiming "it's Carly's world" in some interview or on social media.

I'm sure Part Two will include Mo doing his usual smirking and grinning about people complaining he took over GH with the mob. I interpret his smirking and grinning to be his middle finger to the audience.

Poor Cynthia is really eating a shit sandwich with some of the latest storyline choices she's been given.

by Anonymousreply 341May 2, 2024 3:06 PM

Watros and Hughes and West and Francis don't seem to give performances influenced by ego, but rather work to elevate whatever garbage they're given. Mo and Wright seem to be portraying extensions of themselves, which is why they always feel so personally attacked when the public calls out Sonny and Carly.

R342 THAT is one of the most insightful things I've ever read. Very true, I think.

I think there's a few others that feel they are their roles and vice versa. Braeden and Melody Thomas Scott over at Y&R come to mind.

To me Finola, Maura, Jane, Genie and Cynthia are the lemonade makers.

They can take the lemons the writers throw at them and make lemonade especially Finola.

by Anonymousreply 344May 2, 2024 6:06 PM

Lordy, they had Wiley and Violet in the opening montage today.

by Anonymousreply 345May 2, 2024 6:08 PM

What do you think Genie Francis made at the height of the shows popularity?

by Anonymousreply 346May 2, 2024 6:19 PM

NuGeorgie (possibly just temp), NuAidan, sorasd Amelia.

Wonder if old Aidan got another job or didn't want to do the gay storyline....

KStorms looking slimmer from her IG.

R339 True story. While there's been rumors for years about Deidre and Jane being scissor sisters, what's fact is that Jane has a beautiful bisexual son, Adrian Rojas Elliot, with her ex-husband, cameraman Luis "Louis" Rojas (for those who aren't aware)

R340 Maurice volunteered, being his usual attention seeking self. Apparently, the Laura Wright interview is his most viewed "State of Mind" episode, so he's trying to capitalize on all of the press that she's found herself embroiled in recently.

What actually set everything in motion was when a fan on Twitter casually asked Michael Fairman if there was anyone else on GH that he could interview, for practically every interview he had recently was with LW. LW then went ballistic, claiming that those interviews were actually just from one interview, which was broken up into several different interviews. She's almost always involved in some sort of negative Twitter exchange, either in regards to her or to Carly.

IA Maurice is definitely giving a big FU to the audience with his constant smirking and grinning. He knows that he has a lot of ppl who are almost as annoyed with him and Burton as they are with Wright.

by Anonymousreply 349May 3, 2024 12:25 AM

R342 ICAM 😆 especially with how they're both always trying to outdo their scene partners instead of being generous like the actors mentioned. Right they both have some strange attitude when it comes to their character, like they actually are their character.

R343 Without a doubt, regarding EB and MTS

by Anonymousreply 351May 3, 2024 12:35 AM

R346 Genie was supposedly making six figures, between $100k-$200k during her heyday as Laura (not when she first started of course, but after GH blew up when Gloria Monty turned everything around in 1978; somewhere between 1978-1981 Genie's salary most likely increased significantly). Gloria Monty was encouraging drug use, cocaine especially to keep Genie and other actresses skinny, so she was compensated somewhat for what she had to endure before quitting. After Luke & Laura left, top stars like Tristan Rogers was making about $500k per year. Susan Lucci was the first soap star to command a million dollar per year salary, which happened in 1987. When Luke & Laura returned in 1993, Tony & Genie were both given a million dollar year salary as well. In or around 2013, Tony was livid when his 1.5 million dollar salary was slashed to $750k (Eric Braeden and Susan Lucci were also unhappy about the pay deductions they were asked to accept in the 2000's as well, although Tony seemed to be upset the most)

by Anonymousreply 352May 3, 2024 12:47 AM

I imagine Burton hasn't been happy with pay cuts. Too bad, so sad, always hated him

by Anonymousreply 353May 3, 2024 2:33 AM

R347 Enzo DeAngelis was let go as Aiden, according to his mother, they were given that usual "We're taking Aiden in a different direction" speech. Tristan Riggs is Aiden going forward, apparently.
