What is This New Trend of Pop Artists Sounding Like They're Singing in a Tunnel?

Sza, Doja Cat, Swiftie...their songs have this annoying echo-like effect that's annoying as hell.

It's like someone put the mic at the front of the studio, then told the pop tarts to go all the way to the back of the studio and start singing.

Is it meant to be "brave and artistic," or is it really meant to minimize the weak vocals?

Sounds like shit. Don’t listen.

I heard a song this morning by a singer whose name I can't remember. The melody itself was nice, but there was so much of that echo effect, it muffled her vocals so much, I couldn't understand a word she was singing.
