Because they believe those groups wouldn't vote to convict

California never misses a chance to release convicted criminals back onto the streets

(The last execution that took place in California was in 2006)

Not the point. The defendant is supposed to be tried by a jury of peers and this seems to be a pretty flagrant abuse of the Constitution. I’m not a lawyer so maybe I’m overreacting but at minimum, it looks bad.
