Homemade puff pastry

Have any of you fat whores done it? Is it more difficult than it seems? I'm pretty good at pie crust, but this seems next level.

by Anonymousreply 40April 23, 2024 11:07 PM

OP- The more important question is – are you a

FAT WHORE?

by Anonymousreply 1April 21, 2024 12:46 PM

Ina says just buy it at the store.

by Anonymousreply 2April 21, 2024 12:50 PM

I think we all know the obvious answer to that questions, R1.

by Anonymousreply 3April 21, 2024 1:11 PM

Why bother?

by Anonymousreply 4April 21, 2024 1:13 PM

I love pastry of all kinds OP. But I follow Ina’s advice and buy it at the stores You can also buy GF (gluten free) puff pastry.

by Anonymousreply 5April 21, 2024 1:38 PM

R4- I feel the same way about Chinese food- Why bother?

by Anonymousreply 6April 21, 2024 1:47 PM

because it is fun

by Anonymousreply 7April 21, 2024 1:52 PM

Made it. Wasnt as good as store purchased, lacked the crispness but...it came out like quality croissants.

by Anonymousreply 8April 21, 2024 3:00 PM

You got too much time on your hands-help someone who is in need-do the right thing-OMG

by Anonymousreply 9April 21, 2024 4:06 PM

[quote] Ina says just buy it at the store.

So does Greg.

Ina-shminer.

by Anonymousreply 10April 21, 2024 4:51 PM

Thanks, r8 and all. I don't mind a bit of extra effort for gains in quality/flavor, but it doesn't sound like there's return on investment.

R10

Referring to oneself in the third person constantly can sometimes indicate a disconnection from reality or a mental health condition, such as schizophrenia or dissociative identity disorder.

It is important to approach such behavior with empathy and sensitivity, as it may signal distress or impairment in functioning.

Stigmatizing or labeling the person without understanding the underlying reasons is not beneficial.

Professional evaluation and support from mental health professionals may be helpful in such cases.

by Anonymousreply 12April 21, 2024 6:39 PM

OP, look for a rough puff pastry recipe. It’s not as involved as traditional but provides perfectly acceptable results in a fraction of the time and effort.

by Anonymousreply 13April 21, 2024 7:14 PM

[quote] Referring to oneself in the third person constantly can sometimes indicate a disconnection from reality or a mental health condition, such as schizophrenia or dissociative identity disorder.

Well, Greg’s glad he doesn’t do it constantly.

Do you know what ‘constantly’ means?

What a dumb shit you are.

Now go fuck off.

R10 What does "Ina-shminer" mean?

by Anonymousreply 16April 21, 2024 7:53 PM

R16, it means go fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 17April 21, 2024 8:03 PM

They're always doing "rough puff" on the Great British Bake-Off. I'd never heard of that, or hot-water pastry, until I started watching that show.

by Anonymousreply 18April 21, 2024 8:05 PM

R17 No seriously, what does it mean? Does it not mean anything at all?

by Anonymousreply 19April 21, 2024 8:07 PM

It's like Ina-Schmina, r19.

by Anonymousreply 20April 21, 2024 9:35 PM

R20 It wasn't funny and he fucked it up.

by Anonymousreply 21April 21, 2024 9:38 PM

That happens.

by Anonymousreply 22April 21, 2024 9:42 PM

Just what did I fuck up, R21?

by Anonymousreply 23April 21, 2024 10:17 PM

R22, thanks for your always kind comments.

by Anonymousreply 24April 21, 2024 10:20 PM

Not worth the trouble. Buy it at store.

by Anonymousreply 25April 21, 2024 10:31 PM

I haven't bought any in a long time, but I seem to recall that some brands of the frozen puff pastry didn't use all butter. I can't imagine that would be too good.

by Anonymousreply 26April 21, 2024 10:34 PM

What the hell, why not give it a try?

It looks to be more tedious than difficult.

I would give it a try.

by Anonymousreply 27April 23, 2024 2:50 AM

Every pastry student does the swan thing.

by Anonymousreply 28April 23, 2024 2:57 AM

Puff, strudel, phyllo.

I do them all.

by Anonymousreply 29April 23, 2024 3:15 AM

I love eating puff pastry so I sometimes just think about it rather than actually do it. It's really unhealthy and addictive. And to actually make it? Way too much effort - even for a boring rainy day.

by Anonymousreply 30April 23, 2024 8:28 AM

[quote] Every pastry student does the swan thing.

And I made them for bake sales in junior high.

by Anonymousreply 31April 23, 2024 12:50 PM

I tried once but it doesn't work in a warm and humid house. A good cooking exercise but not worth the trouble.

by Anonymousreply 32April 23, 2024 12:55 PM

R31 Well I made them in fifth grade.

by Anonymousreply 33April 23, 2024 5:23 PM

R33, Well, I made them in second grade—but perfected them and sold them in junior high.

R34 I made them in the womb.

by Anonymousreply 37April 23, 2024 9:53 PM

r35 Is he Puff, the Magic Drag Queen?

by Anonymousreply 38April 23, 2024 10:30 PM

Frozen parathas are a cheap and easy hack for puff pastry. It was a game changer for me.

by Anonymousreply 39April 23, 2024 11:00 PM

I agree with the buy it. There is no real point why you would go through the trouble of making your own puff pastry. It's a lot of work, things can go wrong, and the end result is unlikely to be better than just buying it.
