Survivors from the 80s Brat pack generation

At the top of the list...

Robert Downey Jr. (unexpectedly)

Jennifer Connelly (also unexpectedly but for entirely different reasons)

/several hundred degrees down

Kevin Bacon

Matthew Broderick

Kiefer Sutherland

Ralph Macchio, Molly Ringwald, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe are all still working.

Anyone else?

It seems this generation lit the firmament and then burned out pretty violently.

Andrew McCarthy survived. I hear he's now more a travel writer. I saw him a couple of times in L&O series.

by Anonymousreply 1April 18, 2024 11:04 PM

Keanu Reeves.

by Anonymousreply 2April 18, 2024 11:05 PM

R1, true - I was thinking more of people working regularly in the film industry.

Elizabeth McGovern had a good run on Downton Abbey.

by Anonymousreply 3April 18, 2024 11:06 PM

Nicholas Cage, for better or for worse

by Anonymousreply 4April 18, 2024 11:06 PM

Sean Penn

by Anonymousreply 5April 18, 2024 11:07 PM

R4, it might be an unpopular opinion, but he can turn in a complete masterpiece of a performance with the right director. And I thought he was sexy as hell.

But he's a disaster.

by Anonymousreply 6April 18, 2024 11:08 PM

Matt Dillon

by Anonymousreply 7April 18, 2024 11:10 PM

Johnny Depp and Charlie Sheen are still alive, but not much more.

by Anonymousreply 8April 18, 2024 11:10 PM

Does Sarah Jessica Parker count? She was more a TV actress...

by Anonymousreply 9April 18, 2024 11:11 PM

Anthony Michael Hall and C. Thomas Howell. Howell wasn’t part of the brat pack though.

by Anonymousreply 10April 18, 2024 11:11 PM

R10, relatively few actors actually were - it was mostly the cast of St. Elmo's Fire.

I'm talking about that generation of talent.

by Anonymousreply 11April 18, 2024 11:13 PM

Andrew McCarthy’s son played Christina Applegate’s older son on DEAD TO ME.

by Anonymousreply 12April 18, 2024 11:14 PM

This is not quite on topic, but speaking of that generation who never got their proper due, I wish Heather Langenkamp had been able to break out of the scream queen role. There isn't a fake moment in A Nightmare on Elm Street and she is a big reason why.

by Anonymousreply 13April 18, 2024 11:14 PM

Does Jamie Lee Curtis predate the brat pack era?

by Anonymousreply 14April 18, 2024 11:15 PM

Jennifer Connolly?

by Anonymousreply 15April 18, 2024 11:15 PM

Why did you put her at the top of the list R15?

by Anonymousreply 16April 18, 2024 11:16 PM

Sorry I mean OP.

by Anonymousreply 17April 18, 2024 11:16 PM

Because she is an academy-award-winning actress whose reputation in Hollywood is impeccable in terms of professionalism and who has maintained her business profile, likability and beauty to this day.

She may not be working regularly, but she could be if she so chose.

by Anonymousreply 18April 18, 2024 11:19 PM

Judd Nelson seems to have vanished.

by Anonymousreply 19April 18, 2024 11:22 PM

Did Ione Skye slip down a storm drain?

Mia Sara too.

Loved them both, BTW.

by Anonymousreply 20April 18, 2024 11:23 PM

Ally Sheedy

by Anonymousreply 21April 18, 2024 11:31 PM

Jennifer Connelly wasn’t a part of The Brat Pack.

by Anonymousreply 22April 18, 2024 11:40 PM

R22, she was of that generation, as I hope my title makes clear.

Very few people were actually part of the Brat Pack.

by Anonymousreply 23April 19, 2024 12:19 AM

Jennifer Connelley was not part of the brat pack.

by Anonymousreply 24April 19, 2024 12:26 AM

Tom Cruise would be considered part of the Brat Pack generation.

May not be an actual Brat Packer, but began making his mark in the movies at the same time as the other official members of the Brat Pack.

by Anonymousreply 25April 19, 2024 12:28 AM

FFS I SAID BRAT PACK GENERATION.

NOT BRAT PACK

Aspire / foreign entity thread

by Anonymousreply 28April 19, 2024 1:42 AM

Aspie

by Anonymousreply 29April 19, 2024 1:42 AM

Diane Lane deserves a mention.

by Anonymousreply 30April 19, 2024 1:46 AM

Some of them are working regularly, but just not in high profile projects or in starring roles.

You have to remember: the Brat pack with 30-40 years ago. In 1985, there would have been plenty of leading actors from 1945-1955 who were not working in high profile projects anymore.

OP's argument is not a valid one.

by Anonymousreply 31April 19, 2024 1:53 AM

r31, the Brat Pack generation had two factors earlier generations didn't:

A hard R rating to work with.

Frank use of drugs.
