Streisand to release her first new single "Love Will Survive" on April 25

Barbra Streisand, who turns 82 on April 24, will release her first single in 6 years the day after her birthday. Streisand announced this week she has recorded "Love Will Survive" for the last scene / end credits of the Peacock /Sky series ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’, a six part series which premieres May 2. Streisand said she wants the last scene 'to be memorable'.

“Because of the rise in antisemitism around the world today, I wanted to sing ‘Love Will Survive’ in the context of this series, as a way of remembering the six-million souls who were lost less than 80 years ago. And also to say that even in the darkest of times, the power of love can triumph and endure,” Streisand said in a statement.

The song “Love Will Survive” is produced by Walter Afanasieff and Peter Asher, with Streisand, Jay Landers and Russell Emanuel executive producing.

by Anonymousreply 1April 18, 2024 2:15 AM

If she wanted this to go to number one, she should have duetted with Taylor Swift on this one.

by Anonymousreply 2April 18, 2024 2:17 AM

I just hope her voice isn’t too husky and hoarse.

by Anonymousreply 3April 18, 2024 2:21 AM

How will the last scene be memorable? Is she going to get her tits out?

by Anonymousreply 4April 18, 2024 2:24 AM

The last scene shows Yentl getting off the boat at Ellis Island. She starts humming, then breaks out into "Love Will Survive".

by Anonymousreply 5April 18, 2024 2:37 AM

Streisand has also been in the recording studio (it's been reported) working on her new album. Apparently, Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney are collaborating on this with her (not sure if this means 'duets').

by Anonymousreply 6April 18, 2024 3:38 PM

She looks good there. I guess the slutty choker hides the neck.

by Anonymousreply 7April 18, 2024 4:14 PM

R7 That picture is from more than five years ago (at least).

by Anonymousreply 8April 18, 2024 4:16 PM

Her voice is basically shot.

by Anonymousreply 9April 18, 2024 4:58 PM

Too bad she’s not in the film. After singing, she could throw her head back as the lights dim as in “Funny Girl” and “A Star is Born.”

by Anonymousreply 10April 18, 2024 5:03 PM

She's overdue to make a house record.

by Anonymousreply 11April 18, 2024 5:05 PM

Teenagers will flock to get this!

I like it, r13

by Anonymousreply 14April 24, 2024 11:18 PM

Her face looks like Muppet fabric.

by Anonymousreply 15April 24, 2024 11:20 PM

Yeah, i like it too and it is kinda awsome that she still raising her voice in song at 82 years of age.

Never thought this would be a possibility when i discovered Babs 40 years ago!

by Anonymousreply 16April 24, 2024 11:25 PM

Can love survive as long as a tattoo?

by Anonymousreply 17April 24, 2024 11:49 PM

This is what California and old age has done to her. If Babs was still a real New Yorker, she’d sing Stop being such assholes, mutherfuckers!

by Anonymousreply 18April 25, 2024 12:03 AM

R13. The video has been taken down.

by Anonymousreply 19April 25, 2024 12:35 AM

Who? I hope she enjoyed and was inspired by my and my background vocalists’ “Funny Girl” album.

by Anonymousreply 20April 25, 2024 1:03 AM

She’s still got it especially for 82.

by Anonymousreply 21April 25, 2024 4:39 AM

It sounds very auto-tuned and quite possibly like her voice has been layered with younger, more talented singers. Just a hunch, because I have heard of this thing happening a lot in the industry.

by Anonymousreply 22April 25, 2024 6:10 AM

I thought it would be awful but it’s quite lovely. Good for Babs.

by Anonymousreply 23April 25, 2024 6:25 AM

That's not how she sounds live. Lots of tech manipulation there. And another of her shit pop songs. Did the Bergmans come back from the dead? Or is only one of them dead and they communicate by seance?

by Anonymousreply 24April 25, 2024 6:26 AM

R24, There’s only one dead Bergman, unless you mean Ingrid.

by Anonymousreply 25April 25, 2024 6:40 AM

R21, Is that one of Marvin’s piano bench songs?

by Anonymousreply 26April 25, 2024 6:44 AM

FAKE singing

by Anonymousreply 27April 25, 2024 10:43 AM

Her voice has been lifted a few notes and the huskyness has been cleaned up. She hasn't sounded like this in a few years and it isn't exactly how she used to sound.

Later in her career she got into very wordy songs with little musicality. They are fucking boring. A song is about music, not about a monologue.

by Anonymousreply 28April 25, 2024 10:50 AM

R28 Sure, she had a little help with some reverb and maybe a little help from autotune (not as much on the 2018 album Walls), but she really doesn’t sound hoarse if she rests her voice. Her head voice doesn’t have any huskiness even live.

I was there for the 2006, 2012, 2016, and 2018 concerts.

by Anonymousreply 29April 25, 2024 10:56 AM

R11,

She was beaten to it.

I like it. Not bad, not bad at all.

by Anonymousreply 33April 25, 2024 11:53 AM

R29, I saw her three times at Madison Square Garden in the 90s and at her last concert series in Brooklyn a few years ago. It was night and day, unfortunately. People were leaving en masse even before the last song at the Brooklyn concert, between the quality of her voice and her disposition, people had had enough, especially after paying so much to see her. People were too polite to boo, but it was called for.

by Anonymousreply 34April 25, 2024 11:56 AM

R34, your entire post is bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 35April 25, 2024 11:58 AM

Sorry, I burst your little Barbra bubble. I guess I hoit your wittle feelwings, R35.

by Anonymousreply 36April 25, 2024 12:02 PM

She’s not auto tuned- sheesh. Here voice is definitely deeper. Rasps can be dealt with by vocalizing which I’m sure she has been doing, because while she says she dislikes it, she has also said she has to if she wants to keep singing.

Barbara Cook’s voice remained quite good although it to deepened with age- well into her 70s.

As Leontyne Price would say, not too shabby. What’s going by on the Israel and the Middle East is heart breaking and this is Streisand’s attempt to address it. Her philanthropy has been directed at Israeli institutions.

by Anonymousreply 37April 25, 2024 12:09 PM

“What’s going on in the…” auto correct as crazy as auto tune.

by Anonymousreply 38April 25, 2024 12:11 PM

R36, then you went to every concert in the Garden in ‘94? I believe she did two and maybe added a third. Yes I sense bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 39April 25, 2024 12:14 PM

R34 I didn’t know anyone leaving at the 2012 or 2016 Brooklyn concerts.

by Anonymousreply 40April 25, 2024 12:17 PM

R37, In her later years, Barbara Cook could still hit high notes, but she could not sustain them.

by Anonymousreply 41April 25, 2024 12:21 PM

They’re on video and you can judge for yourself if the audience was “cheated”.

R34 is a troll.

by Anonymousreply 42April 25, 2024 12:23 PM

Could use a disco mix, but not bad for what it is. I was hoping she was going to open up with the ear splitting power of yore, but there’s an old lady elegance at work in not busting the chops of a Holocaust dirge.

by Anonymousreply 43April 25, 2024 12:41 PM

R39, she did three nights in 1994, which I attended. I also saw her at MSG in, I believe, 2006, which I forgot about. R40, I saw with my own eyes people walking out at the Barclays' Center in 2016. It was the night the Clintons where there. I felt bad it happened but I don't blame people for leaving. I wish she had sounded better and had been more gracious because I wanted the two family members I brought, and I had spent $600 on tickets, to enjoy her show as much as I had in the past.

by Anonymousreply 44April 25, 2024 12:41 PM

I'm not a fan (different generation) but she looks very good for 82.

by Anonymousreply 45April 25, 2024 12:44 PM

How naive are you, R45?

by Anonymousreply 46April 25, 2024 2:21 PM

[quote]Rasps can be dealt with by vocalizing which I’m sure she has been doing

With Streisand's arrogance and distain for performing, it's doubtful she spent much time studying and perfecting what's left of her voice.

by Anonymousreply 47April 25, 2024 2:39 PM

R42, the 2012 concert in Brooklyn was recorded and televised. The 2016 Brooklyn concert I was referring to when I said the last Brooklyn concert series, was not recorded/televised.

Someone who tells the truth you do not want to hear and repeatedly proves you wrong is not a troll. Who the fuck would bother trolling a Streisand thread FFS???

by Anonymousreply 48April 25, 2024 2:56 PM

I saw that series on amazon. It is a tragic story of a Tatooist who tattoes the gas chamber numbers on the people but one Jewish man fell in love with him and they try to escape the camp together and then the song plays with Babz

by Anonymousreply 49April 25, 2024 3:07 PM

Except, R49, the people sent directly to the gas chambers in Auschwitz weren't tattooed.

by Anonymousreply 50April 25, 2024 5:28 PM

R34 it was recorded and it’s on Netflix titled Barbra: The Music…The Magic…the Mem’ries

by Anonymousreply 51April 25, 2024 5:49 PM

A musical artist can be listened to any generation who have ears to listen. It doesn’t matter if you’re 8 or 80 yrs old

by Anonymousreply 52April 25, 2024 5:51 PM

R51, that was recorded in Miami, not Brooklyn.

by Anonymousreply 53April 25, 2024 6:09 PM

R53, The Brooklyn concert was recently aired on PBS.

by Anonymousreply 54April 25, 2024 6:41 PM

A friend who is a huge Babs fanatic but never had the money to see her was taken to one of her last concerts in Brooklyn by her boyfriend. He paid $300 a ticket so they were pretty high up. She filmed some of it and played it for me. Babs sounded horrible and I said her voice is shot. My friend agreed but she was just happy to have seen her live.

by Anonymousreply 55April 25, 2024 7:55 PM

R47, she does not have disdain for performing. Rather it frightens her and she also worries she cannot live up to expectations. It’s called stage fright although toward the end of her career she seems to have gotten over much of it.

by Anonymousreply 56April 25, 2024 8:25 PM

Time for this old hag to hang it up.

by Anonymousreply 57April 25, 2024 8:27 PM

The Miami concert is from 2016 and the Brooklyn with the orange down 2012. Both were recorded- the Brooklyn concert aired on PBS.

by Anonymousreply 58April 25, 2024 8:28 PM

Gown not down

by Anonymousreply 59April 25, 2024 8:28 PM

I'm not going to watch the movie. I've had Holocaust fatigue for a few years now. The more I learn about history, or even watching video clips of human behavior, the more I understand how horrific, evil and despicable our species is, even just what once lovers do to each other.

by Anonymousreply 60April 25, 2024 8:31 PM

A JimHenson muppet

by Anonymousreply 61April 25, 2024 8:44 PM

R56, Streisand admits she counts down the songs, she can’t wait to get OFF the stage. That’s distain, dear.

by Anonymousreply 62April 25, 2024 9:31 PM

R58 The gown was coral!

Miss Streisand dislikes the color orange because it is ”too in-your-face." She elaborated on this topic in her design book, her bio and interviews with Gayle King and Oprah W.,who immediately made fun of Miss Streisand. A moment immortalized by Kathy Griffin in a stand-up special ,which in turn is best remembered for talking about Miss Streisand having Oprahs black mic spraypainted off-white to match her Donna Karan sweater.

Therefore no orange flowers in Miss Streisands garden, and the apalling colored fruit, which she can´t eat anyay because she has reflux(but Jim likes them, get buried underneath peaches and apples.

bonus fun fact: Not too long after the Oprah interview Babs gave a luncheon for Sydney Poitier at her home. Guess what color Oprah was wearing in stark contrast to the burgundy to dusty rose colorsheme of the dining room?

I know all this fom the advanced eldergay diva worship knowledge class, as par of the dl scholarship.

Streisand's voice was exceptionally beautiful up to the mid-90s, when she started to lose power and began having difficulties negotiating her way through the upper passaggio. By 1999 a tremolo had appeared and her tone started to sound raspy and opaque, which has only become increasingly evident as time has progressed, because she refuses to acknowledge the physical changes that affect the way in which her vocal tract operates, by adapting her technique.

Nowadays her voice is a mess and while she always had a preference for insipid, lackluster ballads, since her diminished vocal capabilities became apparent she's become increasingly dull and mannered in her delivery, which makes her albums unlistenable by anyone who doesn't want to fall into a coma. This song is a testament to the style on which she has relied more and more since the late-90s: painfully slow, lushly orchestrated, soporifically dull and gradually building to a crescendo that she cannot deliver. Honestly, she ought to have retired at least 5 years ago. She has more money than God and at this point, she's only embarrassing herself.

by Anonymousreply 64April 25, 2024 9:58 PM

R63, with all of that MISS stuff, I thought you were the advanced eldergay diva.

by Anonymousreply 65April 25, 2024 10:01 PM

This getting tedious correcting some of the stupid things being said here. There were two concert tours, one was in 2012 and called Back to Brooklyn, maybe that was recorded in Brooklyn, I don't know and I don't care. The other concert tour was called Barbra the magic memories, blah blah, and was in 2016. That is the one I made clear from my first post about it that I saw people walking out en masse Brooklyn. That tour was recorded in Miami. Thanks, R55, that was exactly my and my siblings' sad experience also.

-R34, et al.

by Anonymousreply 66April 25, 2024 10:09 PM

What do you queens expect? No 80 year old singer has half of their original singing voice left. And with Barbra Streisand - who used to BRAG about not warming up, not seeking coaching/instruction, not taking care of it - sucks at her current age without electronic help, what's the fucking big deal? GET OVER IT.

by Anonymousreply 67April 26, 2024 1:22 AM

Damn if it isn't #28 currently on the iTunes sales chart. For an old like Babs this is impressive.

I listed to a bit of it - she definitely does not have the power she had nor the range but it still sounded like Barbra....I mean she was EIGHTY ONE FUCKING YEARS OLD when this was recorded and she sounds damn good for that age.

Having said that, it's generic treacle and it didn't do much for me. But, I mean, most movie songs are.

by Anonymousreply 68April 26, 2024 1:29 AM

I want to hear a song from Barbra like Stoney End. Enough with this other stuff. And I love Babs, but come on.

by Anonymousreply 69April 26, 2024 1:53 AM

[quote] Who the fuck would bother trolling a Streisand thread FFS???

Well, you, namely, R48.

Are you joking with that completely disingenuous question? On Datalounge, no less?

And no, I don't believe there were walkouts.

by Anonymousreply 70April 26, 2024 2:03 AM

The song is whatever. More than anything: I'm glad she's still doing things. Even if I don't listen to anything from her post-1999.

by Anonymousreply 71April 26, 2024 2:09 AM

Nobody is complaining about Joni Mitchell’s voice. Let these great artists be and let them express themselves. If you don’t like it don’t listen. What a bunch of cunts.

by Anonymousreply 72April 26, 2024 3:05 AM

Truth is that it’s a beautifully delivered song by a great artist- at any age. Bunch of angry nasty unhappy trolls on DL. What else is new?

by Anonymousreply 73April 26, 2024 3:12 AM

This should finally blow the Andrews Sisters out of the number one spot. Go Babs!

by Anonymousreply 74April 26, 2024 3:20 AM

[quote]Miss Streisand dislikes the color orange because it is ”too in-your-face."

And yet her most iconic moment on film "Don't Rain on My Parade" has her wearing orange.
