Can someone make this out - dropped as his final film or dropped making it altogether?

"As for The Movie Critic, originally planned to be his 10th and final film, Tarantino has simply had a change of heart and Deadline hears he will not be moving forward with the project. Sources close to the director said he changed his mind and is going back to the drawing board to figure out what that final movie will be."

I guess he realized the image of Pauline Kael screaming "Eat hot lead, cunts!" while mowing down the cast of Love Story with an AK-47 was not a feasible one.

SEE R1.

R3, I would stand in line overnight in February for that.

Any movie he makes will instantly be derided as “this is what he chose to do?” if it’s not Pulp Fiction good.

It had nothing to do with Pauline Kael. It was to be about a guy who writes movie reviews for a porn magazine. Maybe he realizes it’s not that interesting.

I'm confused by this "10th and final"
Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill 1&2 (counted as 1 film), Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Grindhouse, Four Rooms.
He's already at 11 movies.

He’s probably not counting the ones that had multiple directors.

Death Proof was his segment inside Grindhouse, OP. You’ve counted them as two films.

I always enjoy his movies, but never have the desire to see them a 2nd time.

R11, I'm just like you, minus the "enjoy his movies" part.

Ah, you're right.
That still leaves 10 already unless there is another double count.

Why does he feel the need to announce that this will be his final film? He's not very old, and he'll probably change his mind.

I think he's said that after that, you really don't have much more to say and start becoming repetitive and derivative - see Scorsese for examples.

R14, despite his age, he’s something of a perma-child. He would hold forth in the 90s about he was so amazing and had his whole trajectory in his mind already — he’d make ten movies that would blow us away and then PEACE OUT.
Now he can’t unsay it … so has to do it. A more mature person would just attribute it to youthful bravado. Not Tarantino.
Can you imagine him pacing the floor with no movies left to make, waiting to die?

One can only dream, R16.

He'll wind up making more, if nothing else just to keep hopeful starlets' feet in his mouth.

Imagine it? We masturbate to it!!!

He can always just run “auditions” for that.
