Otto Preminger's notorious race melodrama, 1967's "Hurry Sundown," has a few redeeming qualities, but the sleazy script & some ham acting are stupefying. The plus side: Jane Fonda, Diahann Carroll, Robert Hooks, & in her film debut, Faye Dunaway, offer good performances. They minus side: "southern" Michael Caine & scenery chewers Burgess Meredith, George Kennedy, & Madeleine Sherwood. What are these folks REALLY fighting about? Why, land, Katie Scarlett! My take on this guilty pleasure trash:

Quite the trailer for "Hurry Sundown." Focusing on that great cast, natch!

Embarrassing film. Descends into cartoonishness in the latter part. Caine is awful and that scene with him, Fonda, and a saxophone is cringe-worthy.

Don’t forget Jane hitching up her skirt to play a phallic saxophone. It was justifiably panned by the critics but I think it made money.

Imagine Faye Dunaway under personal contract to Otto Preminger! When egos collide!
