“Sunset Boulevard”- Tom Francis is INCREDIBLE in this show!
They let us know the revival is coming to Broadway later this year at the Olivier awards, and they are bringing him to NYC. He’s one of the West End’s biggest breakouts this year!
He performed at the Olivier’s and was, as usual, incredible! And he just won the Olivier!!!!
I can’t wait to rewatch this revival when it comes to NYC!!!

I saw him in London last November. It's the best version of the show I've seen. There's a real story there, once you strip away all frippery that accompanied the original version. It's still not perfect but a far, far better show than it was ever given credit for.

Yes they won 7 of their 11 nominations. I was shocked they didn’t win in both supporting categories though.

I saw the show around Christmas time at the Savoy and it was excellent and really pushing the envelope in production. Loved it.

I just realised I also saw Tom Francis in &Juliet. I didn't make the connection that it was the same actor. He was excellent in that as well. His award and performance at the Olivier's last night has sealed his fate as a huge star. Can't wait to see what he does next.

Flesh that out a little, R7.

R7 clearly hasn't seen this production. It's groundbreaking in terms of the stage production.

I have such a strongly-developed distaste for ALW as a person that I am having a hard time rooting for this incarnation of the show.

Frankly, I don't think this stripped down version will be a hit on Broadway.
Unlike Europeans, Americans like big and lavish.

Clearasil should take care of those breakouts.

I saw it in London and loved it - it isn't perfect but it's interesting and engaging. It's not nothing for such a radical reimagining to work. I have no doubt Broadway will be contrarian because ALW is associated with it.

I used to ignore all that noise, r19, but ALW really is an asshole.

Yeah, R20, I don't disagree. He sounds like a Grade A jerk. And he's funny looking. But he's had a hand in some enduring shows and songs that can't be denied. The snobbery is unfair because his work tends to be more popular than revered.

R19 ALW is associated with this production anywhere it opens. He was associated with the West End production as well. I mean, the singer even stood by a cutout of Andrew Lloyd Webber during this performance.

^^You can see why. ALW is so dreamy.

Agreed, R23. My turn: the sky is blue on a clear day.

It was announced at the Olivier awards but this revival is coming to Broadway.

Looks promising. Let's see how much of the original West End cast ends up in the Broadway production.

R27, it's all four of the principals.. Norma, Joe, Max and Betty. I assume the company is homegrown.
