The last military draft in the US was December, 1972. If you were a male, aged 18-25, you could be drafted (unless you enlisted first, in which case you would have your choice of branch of service). Baby Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964 (you do the math). According to the NYT article posted below, "Over 10 million boomers served in the military, some 40 percent of the males of their generation." I myself am a "late boomer," i.e., Generation Jones, and I enlisted in the Army in 1977 (BTW, women have never been drafted in the US).

Yes, some young men weaseled out of being drafted. FT college students got a deferment, as did married men with children. You gentlemen could tell them of your sexual proclivities and get out of serving.

But this whining and moaning about "the boomers had everything, and poor me, I have nothing" is entirely misplaced. And it only serves to put your ignorance on full display when you do it. And those of us here who won you the right to vote at 18 and went to the streets so you wouldn't be drafted (not to mention my being out and proud and marching since 1972) are up to our eyeballs with your bitching and ignorance of the facts. Crack a book every now and then -- you might learn something!

That said, no one should be fighting for Israel except Israelis or volunteers. No one.
