What'd you get at the Dollar Tree? I'm heading there tomorrow and inspiration is always welcome.

Sad!

Do you shop at Goodwill or donate there? Or both?

Pound cake!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 13, 2024 10:41 PM |
I got garden pots and solar lanterns at each. I also got mozzarella cheese and wine at Walmart. I saw on my neighborhood Facebook plant page that our goodwill had been donated a metric shit ton of ceramic pots. Then we were hongry. etc!

r8, we had so much fun! I also got pizza pockets and wine at Walmart for a classy dinner.

Chinese buffets still exist? I thought COVID mostly wiped them out.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 13, 2024 11:04 PM |
we have at least 2 in Chittenden county. I think they survived because they are owned by the same people and even pre covid were known to be surprisingly clean and sanitary.

No. Covid wiped out many of the patrons.

Did you get crab rangoon?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 13, 2024 11:16 PM |
How many times did you get a new plate of food?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 13, 2024 11:18 PM |
no r14, I dislike crab rangoon. I got various chicken in sauce, green beans, egg roll, spring roll, mushrooms, broccoli, something supposedly seafoody, and those not on the bone rib things
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 13, 2024 11:19 PM |
r15, I got 2 plates, their plates are smaller than a traditional buffet and I dislike everything being put on top of each other.
They had a dessert table too but I don't have a sweet tooth and just had a second egg roll while my friends had desserts.

I broke it open, don't remember what it said but took it to mean I really love my dog. I didn't eat it, usually I give them to my dog(s) when I order in.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 13, 2024 11:27 PM |
It sounds like a perfect afternoon. Friends, food, and bargain shopping.
Are you renting a roto-tiller to do the turning up soil thing or doing it tge old-fashioned way with a shovel?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 13, 2024 11:28 PM |
I can honestly say I’ve never been inside a Walmart or a Dollar Store. Nor have I ever been to a Chinese buffet. I do donate to Goodwill, but their floor plan does not require you to enter the actual selling space.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 13, 2024 11:29 PM |
r20, I bought a Sun Joe TJ603E Electric Garden Tiller Cultivator | 16-Inch | 12 Amp on ebay (open box from the manufacturer) for $75 in January 😊
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 13, 2024 11:32 PM |
I went to Costco because it was my birthday and I was binging on the free food samples. I told him it was my birthday.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 13, 2024 11:36 PM |
I didn't realize they made tillers that small. My neighbor has an older one that's huge and looks like it would need Mr. Brawny to maneuver.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 13, 2024 11:37 PM |
I am cheap but crafty/ cunning r24. if you get all those things in the winter you pay far less. I would have just rough raked the ground, no way I was shoveling if I could not get a tiller!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 13, 2024 11:42 PM |
o, and the super trashy thing - I got crock (adjacent) clogs for gardening.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 13, 2024 11:43 PM |
I bring my clothing that is in good condition but no longer wear to Goodwill. I buy windshield wash and various other auto items at Walmart, it's cheaper. I buy Christmas wrapping paper at a dollar store. I don't do Chinese buffet.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 13, 2024 11:48 PM |
R17 I'm going to guess the dessert table included slices of banana, drizzled with some kind of neon pink sauce.

holy shit yes r28!

Were there green mussels the size and appearance of a booger?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 14, 2024 12:20 AM |
I was at a Chinese buffet place last week, but what I did was use one of those styrofoam containers they have near the cash register and did a buffet take-out.
The comment above about the banana in neon sauce made me laugh because there was a buffet place near where I used to live that did the same thing.

Do NOT give anything, including money, to Goodwill. They are a for profir organization. They regularly fire managers who dont meet sales goals, and they get all that Target return garbage for free. Then they charge retail prices for broken shit that should have long been in a landfill. The Salvation Army actually helps the communities they serve. Donate to them, not Goodwill. Rant over. And I know.....MARY!

Box wine fits in with my image of you, rescue chick.
My friend once took me to a special Goodwill. It's the Goodwill where all the unsold stuff from the regular Goodwills go. Everything is in deep bins, like the kind you imagine would be at a prison (for laundry).
Everything at this special Goodwill was $1.00.
My back was aching, reaching into those deep bins (I'm short). My friend was in the zone, sorting through things, reaching into bins, and it felt like we were there FOREVER. I hated it. Afterwards, I said: "I think I can afford the regular Goodwill."

I meant this in the best possible way. No offense.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 14, 2024 1:01 AM |
r35, I am ABSOLUTELY a box wine kind of gal! Tell your friend I will go to the special GW with her!
I agree about never donating to the goodwill, fuck them. We looked every item up online while we were there before we would put it in a cart and they had many items priced higher than the exact same it3m at Walmart.
and Zero offense taken, I think only a specific kind of person is a box wine gal and I am happy to be one!

Not OP but at Dollar Tree I buy Pop Up Aluminum Foil Sheets. They are the perfect size to line the little baking sheet for my toaster oven. Much cheaper than the Reynolds brand foil sheets at supermarket. I also buy index cards, paper plates, Russell Stover milk chocolate caramels and Riesen candy.
At Walmart I buy Motor City Detroit Style frozen pizza which I rave about here every chance I get, so good. I also get Wow Bao Chinese Style BBQ Pork frozen bao, also very good.

Box wine lover since early 90s. Pry it out of my cold dead hands. Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon.
I have no idea what brand I buy. It's in a black cardboard box and delicious; the wine, I mean.
So glad you had a happy day, RC. And thanks for keeping DL alive in a goid way.

Sounds almost like the day i had OP. Except for the Chinese buffet. We did everything else. They closed the only CB we had back in 2021. I miss it, too. So we ate at Arby's, which was just ok. I went to the Good Will store looking for drapes, and I found a nice pair that are yellow and pinch pleated and have a tag on them that says Sears. It was a pretty good day.

r43, I was in St Albans Vermont today.

this morning I took my coffee and beloved Big Guy and we sat out watching the birds on my new bird feeders, so far we have chickadees, about 4 different types of finches and a shy cardinal. I actually teared up, that may have been my best morning ever. We had the turkey vultures enjoying the morning sun floating overhead and later today I am going to bring gifts to the crows. Simce I have been removing the underbrush in the way back there is a pair who have come down and poked around on the ground. They've never expressed interest in the yard before so I am SUPER excited. I can't wait until May for the hummingbirds!

I am happy with every purchase and regret NOTHING. except maybe not getting more cheap wine.

I received in the mail a bottle of vintage Guerlain L'Heure Bleue. I had chores to do all day at home. Eventually I chopped up some white asparagus and white mushrooms and nuked them with water, butter and a splash of sauternes. I added chopped up precooked St. Galler Bratwurst and a container of fresh velouté de morilles and mixed it together and put half back in the fridge and ate the other half. Then I sprayed on my L'Heure Bleue, a 100 year old creation that is meant to evoke the color of Paris at sunset, and I relaxed on my bed to watch Les nuits de la pleine lune and remembered when I was that young, too, in 1984.
