Today I went to a Chinese buffet, Good Will, Walmart and a Dollar store.

Jealous bitches?

Doing my part to contribute to the demise of DL, you're welcome.

by Anonymousreply 68April 20, 2024 9:27 PM

What'd you get at the Dollar Tree? I'm heading there tomorrow and inspiration is always welcome.

by Anonymousreply 1April 13, 2024 10:39 PM

Sad!

by Anonymousreply 2April 13, 2024 10:39 PM

Do you shop at Goodwill or donate there? Or both?

by Anonymousreply 3April 13, 2024 10:40 PM

Did the power chair ever need a recharge?

by Anonymousreply 4April 13, 2024 10:40 PM

[quote]What'd you get at the Dollar Tree?

Pound cake!

by Anonymousreply 5April 13, 2024 10:41 PM

I got garden pots and solar lanterns at each. I also got mozzarella cheese and wine at Walmart. I saw on my neighborhood Facebook plant page that our goodwill had been donated a metric shit ton of ceramic pots. Then we were hongry. etc!

I'm a fat basic bitch so this sounds like a great day to me OP! Hope you had a great time!

by Anonymousreply 8April 13, 2024 10:46 PM

r7, I am going to have to ask you to not continue posting my beauty shots. tyvm.

r8, we had so much fun! I also got pizza pockets and wine at Walmart for a classy dinner.

by Anonymousreply 9April 13, 2024 10:48 PM

Chinese buffets still exist? I thought COVID mostly wiped them out.

by Anonymousreply 10April 13, 2024 11:04 PM

we have at least 2 in Chittenden county. I think they survived because they are owned by the same people and even pre covid were known to be surprisingly clean and sanitary.

by Anonymousreply 11April 13, 2024 11:13 PM

[quote] I thought COVID mostly wiped them out.

No. Covid wiped out many of the patrons.

by Anonymousreply 12April 13, 2024 11:13 PM

[quote]Good Will

For hunting?

by Anonymousreply 13April 13, 2024 11:15 PM

Did you get crab rangoon?

by Anonymousreply 14April 13, 2024 11:16 PM

How many times did you get a new plate of food?

by Anonymousreply 15April 13, 2024 11:18 PM

no r14, I dislike crab rangoon. I got various chicken in sauce, green beans, egg roll, spring roll, mushrooms, broccoli, something supposedly seafoody, and those not on the bone rib things

by Anonymousreply 16April 13, 2024 11:19 PM

r15, I got 2 plates, their plates are smaller than a traditional buffet and I dislike everything being put on top of each other.

They had a dessert table too but I don't have a sweet tooth and just had a second egg roll while my friends had desserts.

by Anonymousreply 17April 13, 2024 11:21 PM

No fortune cookie?

by Anonymousreply 18April 13, 2024 11:26 PM

I broke it open, don't remember what it said but took it to mean I really love my dog. I didn't eat it, usually I give them to my dog(s) when I order in.

by Anonymousreply 19April 13, 2024 11:27 PM

It sounds like a perfect afternoon. Friends, food, and bargain shopping.

Are you renting a roto-tiller to do the turning up soil thing or doing it tge old-fashioned way with a shovel?

by Anonymousreply 20April 13, 2024 11:28 PM

I can honestly say I’ve never been inside a Walmart or a Dollar Store. Nor have I ever been to a Chinese buffet. I do donate to Goodwill, but their floor plan does not require you to enter the actual selling space.

by Anonymousreply 21April 13, 2024 11:29 PM

r20, I bought a Sun Joe TJ603E Electric Garden Tiller Cultivator | 16-Inch | 12 Amp on ebay (open box from the manufacturer) for $75 in January 😊

by Anonymousreply 22April 13, 2024 11:32 PM

I went to Costco because it was my birthday and I was binging on the free food samples. I told him it was my birthday.

by Anonymousreply 23April 13, 2024 11:36 PM

I didn't realize they made tillers that small. My neighbor has an older one that's huge and looks like it would need Mr. Brawny to maneuver.

by Anonymousreply 24April 13, 2024 11:37 PM

I am cheap but crafty/ cunning r24. if you get all those things in the winter you pay far less. I would have just rough raked the ground, no way I was shoveling if I could not get a tiller!

by Anonymousreply 25April 13, 2024 11:42 PM

o, and the super trashy thing - I got crock (adjacent) clogs for gardening.

by Anonymousreply 26April 13, 2024 11:43 PM

I bring my clothing that is in good condition but no longer wear to Goodwill. I buy windshield wash and various other auto items at Walmart, it's cheaper. I buy Christmas wrapping paper at a dollar store. I don't do Chinese buffet.

by Anonymousreply 27April 13, 2024 11:48 PM

R17 I'm going to guess the dessert table included slices of banana, drizzled with some kind of neon pink sauce.

by Anonymousreply 28April 13, 2024 11:57 PM

holy shit yes r28!

by Anonymousreply 29April 14, 2024 12:08 AM

Were there green mussels the size and appearance of a booger?

by Anonymousreply 30April 14, 2024 12:20 AM

I was at a Chinese buffet place last week, but what I did was use one of those styrofoam containers they have near the cash register and did a buffet take-out.

The comment above about the banana in neon sauce made me laugh because there was a buffet place near where I used to live that did the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 31April 14, 2024 12:32 AM

Do NOT give anything, including money, to Goodwill. They are a for profir organization. They regularly fire managers who dont meet sales goals, and they get all that Target return garbage for free. Then they charge retail prices for broken shit that should have long been in a landfill. The Salvation Army actually helps the communities they serve. Donate to them, not Goodwill. Rant over. And I know.....MARY!

by Anonymousreply 32April 14, 2024 12:39 AM

Replace Wallmart with a big ole thrift store and it'd be my ideal day.

by Anonymousreply 33April 14, 2024 12:44 AM

And what’s WRRRONGGG with Savers!????

by Anonymousreply 34April 14, 2024 12:45 AM

Box wine fits in with my image of you, rescue chick.

My friend once took me to a special Goodwill. It's the Goodwill where all the unsold stuff from the regular Goodwills go. Everything is in deep bins, like the kind you imagine would be at a prison (for laundry).

Everything at this special Goodwill was $1.00.

My back was aching, reaching into those deep bins (I'm short). My friend was in the zone, sorting through things, reaching into bins, and it felt like we were there FOREVER. I hated it. Afterwards, I said: "I think I can afford the regular Goodwill."

by Anonymousreply 35April 14, 2024 12:58 AM

[quote] Box wine fits in with my image of you, rescue chick.

I meant this in the best possible way. No offense.

by Anonymousreply 36April 14, 2024 1:01 AM

r35, I am ABSOLUTELY a box wine kind of gal! Tell your friend I will go to the special GW with her!

I agree about never donating to the goodwill, fuck them. We looked every item up online while we were there before we would put it in a cart and they had many items priced higher than the exact same it3m at Walmart.

and Zero offense taken, I think only a specific kind of person is a box wine gal and I am happy to be one!

by Anonymousreply 37April 14, 2024 1:03 AM

Not OP but at Dollar Tree I buy Pop Up Aluminum Foil Sheets. They are the perfect size to line the little baking sheet for my toaster oven. Much cheaper than the Reynolds brand foil sheets at supermarket. I also buy index cards, paper plates, Russell Stover milk chocolate caramels and Riesen candy.

At Walmart I buy Motor City Detroit Style frozen pizza which I rave about here every chance I get, so good. I also get Wow Bao Chinese Style BBQ Pork frozen bao, also very good.

by Anonymousreply 38April 14, 2024 1:17 AM

Plus, where else can we feel like beauty queens r38?

by Anonymousreply 39April 14, 2024 1:19 AM

Box wine lover since early 90s. Pry it out of my cold dead hands. Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon.

I have no idea what brand I buy. It's in a black cardboard box and delicious; the wine, I mean.

So glad you had a happy day, RC. And thanks for keeping DL alive in a goid way.

by Anonymousreply 40April 14, 2024 1:31 AM

^good not goid! 🫣

by Anonymousreply 41April 14, 2024 1:32 AM

Sounds almost like the day i had OP. Except for the Chinese buffet. We did everything else. They closed the only CB we had back in 2021. I miss it, too. So we ate at Arby's, which was just ok. I went to the Good Will store looking for drapes, and I found a nice pair that are yellow and pinch pleated and have a tag on them that says Sears. It was a pretty good day.

by Anonymousreply 42April 14, 2024 2:06 AM

Where does this take place? Wichita, Kansas?

by Anonymousreply 43April 14, 2024 2:06 AM

r42, I am glad you had a good day too!

r43, I was in St Albans Vermont today.

by Anonymousreply 44April 14, 2024 2:09 AM

It's a shame that COVID didn't run all Chinese buffets out of business.

by Anonymousreply 45April 14, 2024 2:22 AM

Thanks Rescue Chick at R44. The Goodwill store I went to was near St. Albans her in WV!

by Anonymousreply 46April 14, 2024 2:23 AM

Why R45? You really don't like Chinese food?

by Anonymousreply 47April 14, 2024 2:24 AM

R47: It's because I like actual Chinese food.

by Anonymousreply 48April 14, 2024 2:53 AM

“So like, um, where the’s real menu? Lived in Beijing 7 years, I know this list is a load of crap!”

by Anonymousreply 49April 14, 2024 3:38 AM

Rescue-Chick, you are my HEROINE!!! So proud . . . *sniff*

by Anonymousreply 50April 14, 2024 3:41 AM

rescue-chick: we are FAMILY!!!!

by Anonymousreply 51April 14, 2024 3:49 AM

this morning I took my coffee and beloved Big Guy and we sat out watching the birds on my new bird feeders, so far we have chickadees, about 4 different types of finches and a shy cardinal. I actually teared up, that may have been my best morning ever. We had the turkey vultures enjoying the morning sun floating overhead and later today I am going to bring gifts to the crows. Simce I have been removing the underbrush in the way back there is a pair who have come down and poked around on the ground. They've never expressed interest in the yard before so I am SUPER excited. I can't wait until May for the hummingbirds!

by Anonymousreply 52April 14, 2024 1:44 PM

Did you check for any rat and mice feces on your Dollar Tree purchase? You know the mess they can make! I like the milk chocolate bars from Germany!

Any purchases you regret, or anything you regret passing over?

by Anonymousreply 54April 14, 2024 4:40 PM

I would never buy food from the dollar store, my goodness. I am trashy but not like, Appalachian.

I am happy with every purchase and regret NOTHING. except maybe not getting more cheap wine.

by Anonymousreply 55April 14, 2024 5:09 PM

Rescue Chick that sounds like a very fun day!

by Anonymousreply 56April 14, 2024 9:25 PM

R28 Chinese buffet dessert offerings are mostly abysmal.

by Anonymousreply 57April 14, 2024 9:35 PM

I've been to Chinese buffets that have palmiers as a dessert offering. They're pretty good.

by Anonymousreply 59April 14, 2024 9:58 PM

We have two kids (13 and 11) and one income - so we have to be careful with our $$. Chinese buffets, Good Will, Walmart and Dollar Store help has manage our budget.

by Anonymousreply 60April 16, 2024 2:12 AM

R21 Just stop. Everyone has been a Walmart out of desperation if nothing else. Who else is open all night?

by Anonymousreply 61April 20, 2024 3:06 PM

I had a friend who did that ritual on the first of every month minus the Goodwill store.

by Anonymousreply 62April 20, 2024 3:10 PM

I'm pleased you have the income to shop at THREE places in one day in these days of Bidenflation

by Anonymousreply 63April 20, 2024 3:26 PM

this morning I was steam cleaning dog puke, how exciting!

by Anonymousreply 65April 20, 2024 5:04 PM

Ah, that's the only way to handle dog puke, R-C! 👍

by Anonymousreply 66April 20, 2024 8:44 PM

whoo, got rather drunk in the yard with friends, drunk ordered WAY too much Chinese food, smoked way too much, am ready for a nap. I really need a responsible adult.

by Anonymousreply 67April 20, 2024 8:59 PM

I received in the mail a bottle of vintage Guerlain L'Heure Bleue. I had chores to do all day at home. Eventually I chopped up some white asparagus and white mushrooms and nuked them with water, butter and a splash of sauternes. I added chopped up precooked St. Galler Bratwurst and a container of fresh velouté de morilles and mixed it together and put half back in the fridge and ate the other half. Then I sprayed on my L'Heure Bleue, a 100 year old creation that is meant to evoke the color of Paris at sunset, and I relaxed on my bed to watch Les nuits de la pleine lune and remembered when I was that young, too, in 1984.
