I've been making ice for years but I find it to be somewhat bland and sometimes watery. Is there anyone who can help me up my ice and take it to the next level. I just know there's someone one here who can help me elevate me ice.
Does Anyone Have a Good Recipe for Ice Cubes?

Shut. Up.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 12, 2024 2:37 PM |
Take an ice cube and stick it up your ass. Repeat until the glass is full and enjoy.
We know you will.

Preparing a good ice cube isn't as easy as many assume. I keep burning mine.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 12, 2024 2:55 PM |
It’s a great dessert!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 12, 2024 3:01 PM |
Ugh. Too spicy for me.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 12, 2024 3:07 PM |
OP, I assume you were looking for Greg and got everyone but Greg.

NUG-GET ICE!

Water, cold, and time.

Make your ice cubes from booze. This way you get more booze in your booze as the cubes melt.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 12, 2024 6:55 PM |
Cubes?! You type poor. Spheres and whimsical shapes are where it’s at. I’d die of shame if I served a drink with ice cubes. Oh the shame!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 12, 2024 7:01 PM |
What are ice cubes?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 12, 2024 7:24 PM |
OP, are you straining the water?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 12, 2024 7:28 PM |
Glacial ice!
Be careful though—a lot of it is “refrozen” mountain water. Make sure you get genuine Greenland glacial ice that has never been melted. Expensive, but so worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 12, 2024 7:39 PM |
Just like with your pasta, you should rinse your ice cubes off with water before serving.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 12, 2024 7:42 PM |
I think Trader Joe's has a mix.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 12, 2024 7:44 PM |
Boil distilled water.
Cool.
Place in silicone forms.
Freeze.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 12, 2024 7:47 PM |
No, no, no, R19! Not distilled water! It has no taste. Use fresh, mountain spring water, or good well water.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 12, 2024 7:51 PM |
I make ice balls. They are much better than cubes.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 12, 2024 7:56 PM |
Oh, fuck. It's the "blue balls" troll again!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 12, 2024 7:57 PM |
R13 Hexagonal ice cubes are a compromise for those who can't afford the luxury spherical ice and refuse to use basic, low class cubes.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 12, 2024 8:20 PM |
You must use Kona Nigari water. It's a bargain at around $400 per 750ml. The water is believed to help those who consume it to lose weight, gain energy, and have flawless skin. Kona Nigari has these supposed impacts because of the rare deep ocean electrolyte content absorbed as it rests over a thousand feet below a certain Hawaiian Island.
Only freeze it in a high-end refrigerator.

by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 12, 2024 8:49 PM |
Add delta 9 tincture to your ice cubes for a little extra extra.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 12, 2024 8:52 PM |
R12 This is when they come out watery. I think you can mix with plain gelatin...
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 13, 2024 12:25 AM |
I like to sautée them in garlic butter.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 13, 2024 12:40 AM |
You should use your guest property’s desalinization machine to siphon off huge batches of otherwise wasted ocean water to produce the sweetest cubes possible, OP, like I do here on my Vineyard (which I own). Try borrowing indefinitely and transforming your wealthiest neighbors’ private coves’ saltwater, at nightfall—this always makes for the tastiest ice cubes and failsafe margaritas on the rocks!

I can't find the original DL thread purporting to be a certain poster's recipe for ice cubes--I wish i could.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 13, 2024 1:34 AM |
The secret to good ice cubes is you puree the water beforehand
After you puree it, let it cool overnight in the refrigerator. Only then can you put the water in the freezer.

I've been making excellent vegetarian ice cubes for years, but next week I'm having some vegan guests. What do I do? Does anyone have a vegan ice cube recipe?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 13, 2024 1:51 AM |
I insist on organic ice cubes!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 13, 2024 2:02 AM |
don’t listen to them op. it’s not your fault ice is bourgeois.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 13, 2024 2:03 AM |
If you go over to YouTube, Julia Child did an episode on it for the first series of The French Chef. Not ice the traditional way my mom made it, but it looks like it's worth trying out.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 13, 2024 2:07 AM |
OP, my heart goes out to you. Please ignore the disdain of these philistines. I’ll tell you what changed my life. Giant ice cubes. I adore the hulking boulders. Fair warning: You’ll need to buy new drinking glasses with a larger circumference to accommodate these life changing ice cubes. Totally worth it.

That reminds me Graham Kerr, The Galloping Gourmet likewise once did a show on this subject. I'm afraid he passed out drunk before he could complete his instructions.

Supposedly the ancient Egyptians made amazing ice cubes, but today it's believed that it was actually aliens who created them, which is why the technology was eventually lost for a thousand years before being rediscovered during the Renaissance.

You have to gently fold the water into ice trays.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 13, 2024 3:56 AM |
It always comes back to technique, doesn't it?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 13, 2024 4:02 AM |
Along with regular cubes, my refrigerator makes clear ice spheres.
They are great when serving a negroni or a boulevardier.
Also good when pouring someone a scotch or a bourbon (if they like ice).

The best ice cubes are those from trays shot into space and frozen on an Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos rocket.
Carbon footprint friendly? No. Convenient for your butler or home waitstaff? No.
But they really are so fabulous.

There is something lovely about having a steady supply of ice that is made into perfectly shaped cubes that are also crystal clear and not cloudy like the ice made in many refrigerators.
Believe it or not, it makes a cocktail served on the rocks so much more attractive and appealing.
I also enjoy using the ice spheres.

get thee to your nearest Sonic drive in. Best ice ever and they sell it buy the bag.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 17, 2024 3:21 PM |
I know that people enjoy that Sonic ice (sometimes called hospital ice or nugget ice), but I don't like it.
Do you know how they make it?
Sonic ice uses a specialty ice machine that creates flakes of ice, that are then compressed into thin tubes. The machine then breaks the tubes into small chunks or pieces.
I have a refrigerator in town that makes what's called "ice bites"—it's not crushed ice but is rather very small cubes, that are sometimes likened to Sonic ice—but it's not the same.
