Kansas may require pornography websites to verify visitors are adults

Looks like Kansas will be joining Texas and other states in 'age verification' to access porn sites in the state.

Eventually, everyone online will be "from California," thanks to VPN.

by Anonymousreply 1March 27, 2024 3:01 PM

I can't believe how this is taking off, state by state. Isn't there 'parental controls' on most every device these days ? Why can't parents use these if there is a problem?

by Anonymousreply 2March 27, 2024 3:10 PM

There are right wing orgs that have these laws written on a boilerplate. This is how they roll.

by Anonymousreply 3March 27, 2024 3:11 PM

Here's a link with some background on them. ALEC is the big one, as is the Kochs' Americans for Prosperity.

My guess is it's actually a sneaky way to monitor what sites you visit specifically gay or deep web stuff.

by Anonymousreply 5March 27, 2024 3:28 PM

This is really terrible if they get away with this.

by Anonymousreply 6March 27, 2024 3:52 PM

I want to make sure my son doesn't visit any porn sites.

by Anonymousreply 7March 27, 2024 6:00 PM

Too late, Dad!

by Anonymousreply 8March 27, 2024 6:33 PM

So, take away sex ed.....

by Anonymousreply 9March 27, 2024 6:54 PM

why is this a bad thing? kids should not be looking at porn

by Anonymousreply 10March 27, 2024 6:56 PM

Yes kids should not be looking at porn but they're also shouldn't be a database of people who are held by anyone — especially the government.

by Anonymousreply 11March 27, 2024 7:12 PM

There* (oh dear to my voice to text generator)

by Anonymousreply 12March 27, 2024 7:13 PM

These right wing politicians are retards. No one wants to upload his driver license to a porno site.

by Anonymousreply 13March 27, 2024 7:27 PM

"they're also shouldn't be a database of people who are held by anyone"

Is this your first day on the planet? We are all on databases held by the government. Social Security, Credit reports, etc.

People can start paying for their porn like the old days.

by Anonymousreply 14March 27, 2024 7:28 PM

It's a form of control, they are losing control and thus the egregious laws and such, they are fearful and that's a good thing.

by Anonymousreply 15March 27, 2024 7:31 PM

Of course they are using this to try to get rid of pron sites all together.

by Anonymousreply 16March 27, 2024 7:34 PM

R10, teens have been figuring out a way to look at porn ever since porn was invented.

by Anonymousreply 17March 27, 2024 7:36 PM

Anyone who thinks that this is about "protecting" children is a moron and a fool.

This is to create an electronic trail to use as a weapon against people who visit these sites and get their usage information.

by Anonymousreply 18March 27, 2024 7:38 PM

R14 doesn't know the difference between regulated and unregulated data storage, the difference between a data controller and a data processor, and probably missed school when they were talking about totalitarian governments and human rights abuses.

by Anonymousreply 19March 27, 2024 7:39 PM

Ah yes, requiring age verification for something that requires age verification is = to totalitarian governments and human rights abuses. I'm sure when you get carded trying to buy alcohol you rage about your human rights being abused.

by Anonymousreply 20March 27, 2024 7:41 PM

I have no problem with stricter controls on internet porn. You can't compare sneaking a look at a playboy or playgirl to the garbage kids are exposed to today. You won't stop it, fine. But at least you are slowing it down a bit. Gnarly stuff out there.

by Anonymousreply 21March 27, 2024 7:46 PM

They're not sharing or storing an ID inspected on the spot when I'm carded, smartypants.

by Anonymousreply 22March 27, 2024 8:13 PM

Yes they are. They now scan your id when you're carded.

by Anonymousreply 23March 27, 2024 8:26 PM

If you’re under 6 inches, you can’t view it sorry.

by Anonymousreply 24March 27, 2024 8:32 PM

Don’t red states have the highest consumption of porn?

by Anonymousreply 25March 27, 2024 9:25 PM

People should police their own children and stay off their phones.

by Anonymousreply 26March 27, 2024 10:33 PM

Some conservative politicians want to ban porn altogether, including J.D. Vance and Mike Lee

by Anonymousreply 27March 27, 2024 10:52 PM

R10 that's not what this is about. You're buying into their disingenuous tactics.

by Anonymousreply 28March 28, 2024 1:00 AM

then what is it about, r28? School me.

by Anonymousreply 29March 28, 2024 1:04 AM

Mommy would rather aggravate the gay guys on DL than watch them like mothers should.

by Anonymousreply 30March 28, 2024 1:07 AM

R21, the stuff "kids are exposed to today" is the same stuff I was exposed to in 2004 when I was a kid. Let's not pretend that porn has gotten nastier in the last few years and now we need all this creepy government invention. No one loves the idea of kids looking at porn but it's something they'll survive. I think a better solution would be to talk about porn in sex ed and how it's unrealistic and possibly addictive.

by Anonymousreply 31March 28, 2024 1:39 AM

R29, if they wanted to protect children they'd fund schools and ban guns. It's about low hanging fruit, making the fundies feel they're doing something, and control. Plus when your candidate is a rapist it helps to try to look more "moral". Nothing the Republican party does is a real agenda or policy beyond tax cuts for billionaires.

by Anonymousreply 32March 28, 2024 2:40 AM

So, r31 is ok with letting kids watch porn. Got it.

by Anonymousreply 33March 28, 2024 2:49 AM

Kids have always viewed porn, in one form or another.

by Anonymousreply 34March 28, 2024 2:54 AM

And I bet that those two photographed gentlemen will be first in line volunteering to personally strip-search and verify all the website users’ adulthood status.

by Anonymousreply 35March 28, 2024 3:13 AM

Any VPN suggestions?

by Anonymousreply 36March 28, 2024 11:02 AM

At 57 with no kids, I have no skin in the game. I will say I have never seen a convincing argument as to why access to hardcore porn is a good thing for kids to have.

by Anonymousreply 37March 29, 2024 5:55 AM

Maybe the parents could actually do some parenting instead of having the government do it for them?

by Anonymousreply 38March 29, 2024 1:38 PM

R37 is a retard.

by Anonymousreply 39March 29, 2024 1:40 PM

[quote] I have no problem with stricter controls on internet porn. You can't compare sneaking a look at a playboy or playgirl to the garbage kids are exposed to today. You won't stop it, fine. But at least you are slowing it down a bit. Gnarly stuff out there.

Mind your business, commie loon.

by Anonymousreply 40March 29, 2024 1:41 PM

No porn, no jobs, lots of Jesus, and lots of guns.

What could possibly go wrong?

by Anonymousreply 41March 29, 2024 1:44 PM

Alex, I’ll take things people do when their dicks stop working for $800

by Anonymousreply 42March 29, 2024 1:48 PM

Georgia is following suit:

"Lawmakers on Friday gave final approval to Senate Bill 351, which also would ban social media use on school devices and internet services, require porn sites to verify users are 18 or over and mandate additional education by schools on social media and internet use."

I wonder if anonymous speech on the internet will go next.

by Anonymousreply 44March 29, 2024 3:05 PM

R44 Hopefully, it will be Trump's.

by Anonymousreply 45March 29, 2024 3:15 PM

R27

Oh sweetie don’t worry the lack of online porn will be the least of your problems. We have much bigger plans for you starting in 2025. Enjoy what you can now.

And a big thanks to GenZ and those on DL that claim they have seen the light and will not vote for Biden. Without your help we would likely lose.

See you next Feburary.

by Anonymousreply 46March 29, 2024 3:22 PM

Exactly r46. These are all distractions.
