Olivia Coleman is definitely better than average. OP hates her because she has the audacity to be a frumpy late-middle age woman.

by Anonymousreply 8March 26, 2024 5:09 PM

Olivia seems down to earth, funny, and is also quite a good actress. Eat shit, OP.

I hate Olivia Colman. She's always so ridiculous with her acceptance speeches. Like all Brits, she tries so hard to seem funny and tells some stupid joke, but then she tries to seem "you picked me? little old me?"

I haven't watched anything she's been in since she won her first award in America. Before that, I only watched her in some tv crime dramas. She was ok in them. Nothing special

But I truly can not stand Jamie Lee Curtis. She is an insufferable, attention seeking, fool. She thinks she's the best actress in the world. She harassed everyone into giving her that award.

You're an idiot for caring that much about acceptance speeches, r10. How many Olivia Coleman acceptance speeches have you seen? One? Two?

by Anonymousreply 11March 26, 2024 5:57 PM

Olivia Coleman, just on CNN, seems to be on Ozempic

Olivia Colman is a genuinely great actor, but she's almost one despite herself. She doesn't seem to have learned much technique--she just goes up in front of the camera and does it intuitively. Her performance as Elizabeth II in seasons 3 and 4 of "The Crown" is extraordinary.

The high point of the whole series for me in terms of acting is the scene where after visiting the town of Aberfan in the wake of the landslide disaster she has a meeting with Harold Wilson and explains to him in incredible shame she thinks there's something deeply wrong with her because she cannot cry empathetically with her suffering subjects. There are much more highly trained actors in the show than Colman (Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, John Lithgow, Vanessa Kirby, Elisabeth Debicki) , and yet that is the moment that will always stay with me.

Jared Leto, Mandy Patinkin, Nic Cage. None of them is as good as they think they are (although after years of ridicule I think Cage finally has come to realize this).

The weird thing, though, is most of the people who I hear about who are often characterized as ridiculously intense and self-important on the set actually are (or at least once were) overall superb actors, although almost all of them have occasionally given hammy performances: Dustin Hoffman, Vanessa Redgrave, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jessica Lange, Sean Penn, Christian Bale, Russell Crowe.

With Colman's Oscar, 4 BAFTAs, 2 Emmys and 3 Golden Globes, it seems others also think she's a great actor.

OP FAIL.

Cage can be good when he has a good director and is reigned in. He did so many paycheck parts in order to furnish his lifestyle it damaged his reputation and it hasn’t recovered.
