Hopkins, MN

Has anyone ever been to or lived in the city of Hopkins, Minnesota? What's it like?

My partner and I are moving out of California and are looking into purchasing a home. There seems to be affordable homes there listed online. Is this a gay-friendly area?

I don't know anything about it, but the city had its first Pride festival last year

Near Minneapolis?

Near Rochester?

If not, no

Not sure about pricing but Golden Valley is nearby and likely to have more gays.

I moved over 20 years ago, but knew it well. It’s a nice Minneapolis suburb. Most American suburbs of decent-sized cities now offer a good lifestyle. You can get to downtown (or Uptown) in 20 minutes. You could have a good life being near a lot of cultural activity while having a neighborhood and a yard. The Minneapolis airport can get you out of the Midwest or US without a lot of fuss. Hopkins is relatively progressive as suburbs go.

Have you checked with Marcus Bachmann?

It is where Mystery Science Theater 3000:the original series was filmed.

It's one of the older suburbs of Minneapolis (some of the older neighborhoods have alleys) - about 15 minutes away from Minneapolis. It has a small downtown/Main Street with several antique stores, a supermarket, and some restuarants. There's a strawberry festival every summer. They're building the light rail through the city right now (which is both good and bad). It's on the West side of the metro which is considered the nicest part of the region, near the wealthiest suburbs of Minnetonka, Wayzata.

OP lives there in a trailer with his mom.

Is it near Lake Minnetonka?

by Anonymousreply 10March 26, 2024 12:31 AM

It's the Paris of the Minneapolis suburbs.

It depends on what part you're in, same with Golden Valley, the gayest suburb.

We left Orange County, CA and moved to a leafy suburb in central Virginia. We love it. Go wherever you can have the best quality of life. There are great and interesting people almost everywhere and certainly in the Minneapolis burbs.
