It's perfect for me. Everything I want in a house.
More wood than an Olympic Village.

Money. Pit.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 25, 2024 12:58 AM |
That kitchen look cheap as hell. Cabinets from Home Depot, with some stainless steel appliances to make it “high end”.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 25, 2024 1:02 AM |
I acknowledge the kitchen is a travesty and will have to be redone.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 25, 2024 1:04 AM |
The problem with places like that is upkeep, not the initial purchase.
You'd have to pay a cleaning lady to come in 2-3 times a week just to dust and sweep the floors.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 25, 2024 1:08 AM |
The inside is pretty fabulous except for the horrendous renovation of the kitchen.
The outside needs a complete overhaul. Paint and landscape.
Otherwise it's a money pit.
Keep looking, OP.

That’s a handsome property, and will be even more handsome in spring, summer and fall. It has been photographed at a lousy time of year. I like the Pantry in particular.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 25, 2024 1:18 AM |
Is it on a major road? Seems like it would be
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 25, 2024 1:18 AM |
Beautiful home. Needs some work on the grounds to make the curb appeal better. The only disappointment I have on the interior is the kitchen. Big let down for me. Far too modern, and for too small. Everything squished up into a corner when there's so much space shows very poor planning.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 25, 2024 1:24 AM |
Not on a major road. Surrounded by mostly Victorian Mansions(much larger than this house), a park, a huge old church, and on winding one way no left turn types of streets. I know the neighborhood well. I've been waiting for something to go on sale for ages. I'm going into the process assuming something is wrong with the house. I'm shocked that it's not going for at least 300K more. Here's a house near it. Like I say though I'm going in eyes wide open because it seems like too much of a bargain.

Who died there?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 25, 2024 1:47 AM |
You're gonna need a lot of Pledge.
Meh - huge homes are beautiful - but so impractical unless you have a large family. A big home in the middle of nowhere has 0 appeal.
The owners had lived-in help most likely.
Heating costs in the Northeast are outrageous - particularly if it's oil heat.

by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 25, 2024 2:18 AM |
It looks like it could be haunted...👻
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 25, 2024 2:22 AM |
That neighbor's house is creepy. as. fuck.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 25, 2024 2:24 AM |
Why do you need 6 bedrooms?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 25, 2024 2:27 AM |
My Beanie Baby collection, my Franklin Mint Collection, a gallery for my macrame, my bedroom, and a guest bedroom. The last room would be empty except for a tv and vcr. I would play my Bonnie Franklin tap dancing DVD and get my exercise in and enjoy hearing my tapping echo throughout the house.

The library got me on your side, go for it.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 25, 2024 2:52 AM |
Is that a former sanatorium, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 25, 2024 2:56 AM |
R3- I agree. Many of the rooms are charming, unfortunately some FRAU decided to McMansionize the kitchen and some of the bathrooms- oh well.

How much do you guys think the annual maintenance/upkeep/gardening would average over a 10 years period starting once you've renovated everything?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 25, 2024 3:10 AM |
This one is giving me bad energy on a few levels. I would stay away. You don't need this.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 25, 2024 3:11 AM |
If I'm gonna be forced to live in Connecticut I want it to be something fantastically colonial, like this. Georgie boy himself slept here!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 25, 2024 3:27 AM |
Where's the open concept?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 25, 2024 4:01 AM |
Quite the showplace. I wonder what year it was built.
How much do you guys think the annual maintenance/upkeep/gardening would average over a 10 years period starting once you've renovated everything?
It's 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Plus, there's a pool and the mini Versailles garden.
Off the top of my head, I'd say $3,000 per month or $36,000 per year.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 25, 2024 4:23 AM |
Actually, over a ten-year period ... some of the shit you did during the renovation would have to be done, again. I'd say $60,000 per year to maintain.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 25, 2024 4:25 AM |
It looks more like Washington died there R24
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 25, 2024 4:28 AM |
No spy window so you can see who has come to the front door? What's the point of having a little front courtyard then?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 25, 2024 4:56 AM |
Op, that home is the definition of uninspired. Clearly, a wealthy tradesman (lawyer, doctor, shop owner) built that place to show off, but the style screams middle class taste. It's both too big (for the lot) and too small overall for what it's attempting. The original finishes on things like the fireplace, wood work, and design are not impressive. The floor plan is boring and it's just sort of there. A 1908 McMansion.
Now, you could make it work but why bother. Homes half it size are in that price range with modern comforts. Either the neighborhood is terrible or you looking at a whale.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 25, 2024 5:14 AM |
Op, here is an estate for your real estate porn collection. I know I'm in love with the grounds and home.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 25, 2024 5:16 AM |
I'm shocked by how well kept the interior is. After all the focus on the exterior, I expected run-down at best.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 25, 2024 6:15 PM |
The kitchen really is laughable.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 25, 2024 6:39 PM |
OP, it’s beautiful, though I’d change that godawful kitchen.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 25, 2024 6:40 PM |
R32, that’s a positively gorgeous house! It’s more beautiful and vibrant than OP’s dream house.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 25, 2024 6:42 PM |
You need to get 100 of your gay friends to move to the neighborhood. In a wink of an eye, the whole little village will be screaming "Currier and Ives".
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 25, 2024 7:06 PM |
Haven't even looked at the house, OP, but if you are comfortable living in Vernon, CT, I don't even want to know you.
When I left UCONN in 1996, I always told people, "I didn't leave Connecticut -- I [italic]escaped[/italic]."
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 25, 2024 7:13 PM |
It's not so bad west of the river, but the closer you get to Mass, the worse the people get.

That kitchen would be adequate for me as I am extremely basic when it comes to food. But my partner would require it to be rebuilt and extended. It does need landscaping. Otherwise its a beautiful house, can imagine what it would be like stuffed with Victorian furniture etc
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 26, 2024 4:28 AM |
The yard is so depressing (and overlooked), but with time and money could be transformed into something pleasant and private.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 26, 2024 4:42 AM |
The intense symmetry reminds me of the Overlook Hotel from The Shining. Beautiful, but creepy AF.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 26, 2024 5:03 AM |
The house is in the Historical Register. Here's a house in the same neighborhood.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 26, 2024 5:04 AM |
One more house in the neighborhood. Gives you an idea of why I've waited and waited for something to come up for sale in this historical section.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 26, 2024 5:06 AM |
Wow R45/ R46 I can see why you're keen. That one at R46 is just perfection
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 26, 2024 5:07 AM |
It kills me that it’s the same price as a Los Angeles shitbox with 3 bedrooms and security bars on the windows.
You need to get 100 of your gay friends to move to the neighborhood. In a wink of an eye, the whole little village will be screaming "Currier and Ives".
But just think of all the constant neighborhood cat fighting. You can't put that many gays together like that. If you put too many homos together in close proximity it will usually end in constant upheaval. You have to have some strong willed straights in the mix to tell the vicious queens to shut it when they get too full of themselves.
