Sunday Dinner: Beef Giouvetsi (Greek Beef Stew with Orzo and Tomatoes)

Once Greg can get the Drambuie out of his keyboard, I'm sure he'll be back here to mock this classic Greek recipe.

Giouvetsi is conventionally made with lamb, but beef is also commonly used. And beyond the tomatoes, you can add any other vegetables you wish. It's a rare Greek dish that doesn't involve olives or fish.

Watch this Greek hunk make his version of it. Sexy?

That sounds good OP. Nice to see a food thread that hasn't been started by that obnoxious troll.

by Anonymousreply 2March 24, 2024 7:10 PM

Yet here he is posting at r2

by Anonymousreply 3March 24, 2024 7:13 PM

Oh, Greg is posting from another sock at R3. I have his authenticated account blocked. Bye again.

by Anonymousreply 4March 24, 2024 7:23 PM

OP have you tried it with both types of meat?

by Anonymousreply 5March 24, 2024 7:25 PM

I wish I was clever enough to follow r5.

by Anonymousreply 6March 24, 2024 7:36 PM

You might think about getting over yourself.

Really?

by Anonymousreply 8March 24, 2024 7:59 PM
Oh, Greg is posting from another sock at [R3]. I have his authenticated account blocked. Bye again.

Oh yes, of course.

Whatever you say, R4.

Have a nice day!

Drambuie? I don’t think so.

OP, thank you for including me in your post. I’malways happy to be remembered.

And I never ridicule what people eat or cook,

I try to be kind and to always have good manners.

Enjoy your dinner!

by Anonymousreply 10March 24, 2024 8:04 PM

R5 Yes, but you have to take extra steps ahead of time. It's extra filling.

by Anonymousreply 11March 24, 2024 8:11 PM

I want Akis Petrizikis to melt in my mouth.

by Anonymousreply 12March 24, 2024 8:14 PM

Well, that looks low-cal!

by Anonymousreply 13March 24, 2024 8:14 PM

Since OP was kind enough to include me in his post, I will share with you what I will be making for tonight’s Sunday dinner:

[bold] GREG’S PALM SUNDAY DINNER [/bold]

Roast Chicken

Shiitake & Parmesan Brioche Pudding

Grilled Asparagus

What are others having for dinner today?

by Anonymousreply 14March 24, 2024 8:15 PM

R14. Ramen noodles.

Times are tough for a single gal in the big city.

And here at Hotel Viceroy, they frown upon cooking in your tiny apartment, outside of the occasional pork chop…which is much too expensive for me.

by Anonymousreply 15March 24, 2024 8:22 PM

Hello, R15.

Ramen noodles are tremendous.

But have you ever prepared a classic Greek recipe?

by Anonymousreply 16March 24, 2024 8:32 PM

R16. Im just a misunderstood girl, new to the city and working at Balack’s department store.

The perfume counter is a lousy gig…err a fine job for any girl new to town, but it barely pays the bills.

A classic Greek recipe? Oh, that’s way too extravagant for me!

by Anonymousreply 17March 24, 2024 8:55 PM

Thank you OP, I will make this.

by Anonymousreply 18March 24, 2024 9:06 PM
It's a rare Greek dish that doesn't involve olives or fish.

My mother's side of the family is Greek, and I don't think I've ever eaten a Greek dish with either olives OR fish.

R7 — R10 all one poster?! Yikes

by Anonymousreply 20March 25, 2024 3:00 AM

That poster is well-known for doing that, r20.

by Anonymousreply 21March 25, 2024 3:14 AM
That poster is well-known for doing that, [R20].

That’s right.

I reply to those who mention me.

It’s a burden, but must be done.

by Anonymousreply 22March 25, 2024 11:18 AM

I went to brunch on Sunday. No food for the rest of the day.

by Anonymousreply 23March 25, 2024 11:21 AM

Very sensible, Egalandy.

I had a nice breakfast of homemade blueberry pancakes, a grilled Italian sausage, a fried egg, and some cantaloupe.

Then for dinner I made a lovely roast chicken with a savory brioche pudding (with shiitakes, thyme, and parmesan) and some asparagus.

A nice day.

by Anonymousreply 24March 25, 2024 11:48 AM

R20 R21 Mentally ill kitchen fusspot!

by Anonymousreply 25March 25, 2024 3:56 PM

Absolutely right, R25.

by Anonymousreply 26March 25, 2024 4:04 PM

Has anyone made this Giouvetsi?

Would love to hear some reviews.

by Anonymousreply 27March 27, 2024 9:47 PM

Okay, I’ve gotten the Drambuie out of my keyboard, and I’m here to mock this classic Greek recipe.

by Anonymousreply 28April 6, 2024 1:27 PM

R28 Hi Greg, I have made this several times in Greece as it’s not usually on the menu in taverna’s. I make a tray of it and then portion it up into containers, it freezes really well.

I’ve made it with beef and chicken, but I prefer the beef version. My friends mum is an excellent cook and she makes it with veal, so I will try that next time. I follow the exact recipe in the video posted up thread. Akis is a great cook and there are many of his recipes on YouTube.

I love reading your posts Greg, ignore the haters, they are only jealous.

by Anonymousreply 29April 6, 2024 1:54 PM

^^^^^lol, sure, hon. We see through you.

by Anonymousreply 30April 6, 2024 2:02 PM

Thanks, R29!

I will definitely give this recipe a try.

by Anonymousreply 31April 6, 2024 2:04 PM

Where's the "stew" part?

by Anonymousreply 32April 6, 2024 2:04 PM
lol, sure, hon. We see through you.

What are you talking about, R30?

by Anonymousreply 33April 6, 2024 2:05 PM

R30 I posted that and I am not Greg. I spend several months of the year in Greece and I love Greek food.

Get a life you sad idiot, or better still get help, you need it.

by Anonymousreply 34April 6, 2024 2:21 PM

Sure, hon. You respond exactly like it who is bored this saturday morning and you seemed to know exactly what I was referring to.

So obvious....sigh.

by Anonymousreply 35April 6, 2024 2:24 PM

R35 well given that your post had two arrows pointing to the post above, of course I knew what you was referring to.

Are you so fucking thick that you don’t know that? Jeez, grow up you sad idiot.

by Anonymousreply 36April 6, 2024 2:47 PM

^^^^🤣🤣🤣

Oh, Prunes, I do love it when you get riled up and lash out because you're not clever enough to change it up.

by Anonymousreply 37April 6, 2024 2:50 PM
OP, thank you for including me in your post. I’m always happy to be remembered.

No kidding.

by Anonymousreply 38April 6, 2024 2:53 PM

I would not eat that Greek gunk! I prefer Yugoslavian yuccimessi.

by Anonymousreply 39April 6, 2024 2:58 PM

R35 is just a little pest, R36.

Just pity him and move on.

by Anonymousreply 40April 6, 2024 3:14 PM
Oh, Prunes, I do love it when you get riled up and lash out because you're not clever enough to change it up.

Not me.

I don’t get riled up and I don’t lash out.

But I am clever.

Very clever.
