OP -Her image, before turning to acting, was a decent vocalist with a good body and a passable face who knowingly embraced a highly stylized, almost parodic, version of glamour that was over the top even by 70s standards.

While this is textbook catnip to many, many gay men it tends to leave straight guys cold. She actually got prettier with her 80s surgeries and people respected her talent as an actress because it was such a fucking surprise, but she was never conventionally “sexy.”

She has never been conventionally beautiful, but she makes up for it with her enormous talent and charisma. Also, I agree with R46: after the first surgeries, her features became more delicate and pleasant and she looked genuinely pretty. However, by the late 90s she already looked like a melting Barbie doll.

I have no idea whether straight men have ever found her desirable (and quite frankly, I don't see why we gay men would be concerned about that), but I do find her deliriously tacky idea of glamour, her acting and musical choices and her devil-may-care, what you see is what you get attitude, to be utterly awesome.
