I recently watched Julie Andrews' 1965 Oscar win on YouTube and some commenters thought it was rude and racist that she didn't hug/kiss presenter Sidney Poitier, who had won the previous year.

by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 11, 2024 7:55 PM |
This is what happens when you have so many presenters on stage, I knew it was a bad idea to bring this format back. You just won the friggin' Oscar but can't even enjoy the moment because you have to make sure to shake hands with and smile the appropriate amount of time at each presenter, maybe even crack a little joke. It's all too much.

R2 you don’t need to personally know the person presenting you with the award to acknowledge them. Many winners weren’t close friends with the person presenting but they still shake their hand or even hug them. People like you are a big problem, always defending bad behavior.
Like someone said, RDJ can learn from his costar Cillian Murphy. Classy. He went to each of the 5 actors and shook their hand. That’s how you do it. You don’t ignore them, not even looking their way, ESPECIALLY the one handing you the award.
Enough is enough.

The format seemed to work better in 09. Even the intros were better by the five former winners. Last night it just kind of felt flat and perfunctory. And having last years winner championing another nominee, while reading someone else’s name as the winner just feels strange and off. I know they’re trying to goose the ratings by doing this, but it’s probably better saved for anniversary shows that end in 5 and 0. Better yet, have last years winner walk out after the salute by the five former winners and open the envelope.

by Anonymous | reply 128 | March 12, 2024 8:16 PM |
You know it's basic politeness. Some people do it reflexively. Other people have to be reminded. And some people dismiss it as unimportant, and might even "blame" or criticize someone who is on the receiving end. That's the way things work in these times. An entitled asshole gets excused and the guy who was just standing there handing him an award, is mocked.

If I were a famous person, I would invite RDJ to a party and would ask: "I am a fan of yours, how about we go to a room alone because I heard you are a closeted fag?" Then I'd secretly film it and send the video to Ke Huy Quan.

Frankly, I've never been able to stand either one. But I have had Short Round on ignore since the 80s when he was being shoved down our throats because he was a favorite pass around bottom/cum sucker for the Spielberg/ Donner little boy lover crowd.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | March 12, 2024 9:42 PM |
It was very rude. He treated him like the help.

Typical oriental behavior.
Sneaky and vindictive.

R133 this is the oriental song when RDJ starts to kiss me on the cheek...
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 12, 2024 10:52 PM |
RDJ doesn't really seem to have any humility. He was down and out and Hollywood could have every easily without a blink of any idea threw him away and they didn't. And let's face it, his greatest claim to fame was playing a comic book character running around in a plastic suit and was rewarded with riches beyond most people in Hollywood's pay grade.

RDJ was probably on heroin Sunday night. He will die soon just like Philip Seymour Hoffman once the rush of the Oscar ceremony wears off in a couple of weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 13, 2024 12:06 PM |
Maybe Quan asked him why he left his Wonder Woman costume at home.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | March 13, 2024 4:15 PM |
R136 You are sick.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | March 13, 2024 11:10 PM |
Do we think he’s back on drugs?
by Anonymous | reply 139 | March 27, 2024 11:40 PM |
I agree RDJ appears to lack humility, especially during the last ten years. He seems to have done a 180 from the guy who was pleading for Mel Gibson to an awards show audience back in the aughts or early 10s. Not that Mel Gibson should necessarily be defended, but RDJ seemed like a more thoughtful and grounded person in those days.
If one can ever describe him as "grounded."
by Anonymous | reply 140 | March 28, 2024 1:37 AM |
He needs to lose the glasses or find a more appealing pair.

I love Robert but he looks like Billie Jean King on the cover of People.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | March 28, 2024 1:45 AM |
Why did he win an Oscar for Oppenheimer? Wasn't he just the token imp?
by Anonymous | reply 143 | March 29, 2024 7:34 AM |
Am I the only one who noticed RDJ wiping his mouth right after his wife kissed him?
by Anonymous | reply 144 | March 29, 2024 8:25 AM |
Racists fucks on this website seem not to realize the conservative magat crowd hates them, too. Idiots.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | March 29, 2024 8:41 AM |
It was an awkward moment, but read as a brain fart to me. RDJ also didn't greet Walz. And for those saying he lacks humility, did you actually hear his speech?
The Iron Man persona is getting a bit tiresome, but it's also obvious psychological armor.
I like Ke Huy Quan, although I prefer Data to Short Round as far as characters go. He was completely endearing in Loki. But truth to tell he's not much of an actor.

Whoops - just saw that pic was already posted - sorry!!!
by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 29, 2024 11:27 AM |
RDJ probably didn't even see Quan as I doubt he is used to looking down at another man's face.
That said, I wonder how much these two clowns would charge to stand on my wedding cake.

Robert is now a billionaire. He has enjoyed success and legitimacy after a very rough road. IMO he was accustomed to being an underdog, a bad boy. Now he seems obnoxious.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | March 29, 2024 12:37 PM |
I'd still do him.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | March 29, 2024 1:05 PM |
You won’t have much competition, R151.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | March 29, 2024 1:08 PM |
Actually, anyone who believes Robert has not engaged in the homosex, is pretty naive.

Downey wears a wig on top. Hahahaha
by Anonymous | reply 156 | March 29, 2024 3:10 PM |
Ke Huy Quan still owes the public an apology for his performance in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). Indy! Indy! Indy!
by Anonymous | reply 157 | March 29, 2024 3:59 PM |
You cinephiles are never satisfied.
You bitch about how the kids don't talk up indie films and then shit on the one kid who did.

How Props Can Help You Understand Your Character
In my dad’s film Rented Lips, which he directed and Martin Mull wrote, I play a porno star named Wolf Dangler. In most of the film, I wear fish-net underwear, and I don’t give a shit. I stuffed my underwear, too. I had this huge wad of toilet paper, and I kept asking the camera guys to please just keep panning around from the front to the side. So you could see from the front angle it looked really big. But when you panned to the side, it looked so obviously fake

R159 - I have seen that image, but what the hell is he doing? I gather it's an SNL skit. For what? Night of the Living Death in Venice, a Visconti/Fulci co-production?
by Anonymous | reply 161 | March 29, 2024 6:40 PM |
His dad sounds like a great, great person.
"Hey Robert! Get your coked-up ass over here! Take off all your clothes and lick a dead midget!"
by Anonymous | reply 162 | March 29, 2024 7:27 PM |
I’m really getting tired of looking at him. And his wife.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | March 30, 2024 12:13 AM |
I actually like Susan Downey (ducks).
One of the few celebrity wives who seems self-effacing, supportive and not desirous of publicity for its own sake. There's a shrewdness there, but I don't mind it.
She exudes common sense.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | March 30, 2024 12:27 AM |
Ellen Barkin and her then husband Ron Perlman refused to attend the Downey's wedding. Ellen had been close friends with Susan.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | March 30, 2024 12:30 AM |
R165, what was the reason? I assume Ellen thought Susan was getting in over her head?
Susan was evidently responsible for cutting off James Toback, which led to Toback's numerous maledictions against the couple.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | March 30, 2024 12:31 AM |
UPI said Barkin attended, but doesn't mention Perlman.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | March 30, 2024 12:34 AM |
Well I remember Ellen stating publicly that she didn't support the marriage and wouldn't attend. I stood out in my mind because pre-Twitter it was such a weird statement to make.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | March 30, 2024 12:38 AM |
R168 I heard from blind items that Robert is a full-blown fag and maybe she thought that her friend Susan Wojiki should have a happy life with a hetero husband instead of a closet case with money?
by Anonymous | reply 169 | March 30, 2024 12:42 AM |
Yeah, R169, but, you know, other than that.
