I love Saltburn, but I have questions ! Ask me anything

I’ve watched the several times . In the beginning we meet Oliver as an insecure young man, trying to find his footing. We know what happens

One theory could be he started out as an “innocent” but changed drastically resulting from how he was treated

But… at the end of the film, we see him puncturing Felix.’s bicycle tire - implying this was a premeditated scam from the beginning

What do you think ? I know I’m overthinking this! Mary!

by Anonymousreply 73March 28, 2024 4:32 AM

He planned the whole thing, Dora Dumbfuck.

by Anonymousreply 1February 4, 2024 7:52 PM

Did Oliver want to get fucked by Felix in the maze? Did Felix cum before Oliver interrupted his birthday tryst?

by Anonymousreply 2February 4, 2024 8:25 PM

Describe in detail all the nudity, and is hole presented?

by Anonymousreply 3February 4, 2024 8:26 PM

Still waiting, OP.

by Anonymousreply 4February 4, 2024 8:42 PM

If you have questions, why would we ask you anything?

Also, your punctuation is horrible but how did you manage to get an apostrophe and period in the same space? Brilliant!

by Anonymousreply 5February 4, 2024 8:46 PM

[quote] If you have questions, why would we ask you anything?

I had the same question, R5.

by Anonymousreply 6February 4, 2024 8:59 PM

Here’s my question….

This movie had been out for several weeks. Why are you just now watching it, creating a post and coming off like it’s brand new to the world as well as the DL?

by Anonymousreply 7February 4, 2024 9:06 PM

I can tell by OP’s terrible writing that they’re Emerald Fennell.

by Anonymousreply 8February 4, 2024 9:10 PM

OP? This film doesn’t bear thinking about that much.

by Anonymousreply 9February 4, 2024 9:12 PM

OP--troll, idiot, or both?

by Anonymousreply 10February 4, 2024 9:23 PM

There are a number of idiot trolls on DL these days. Some lazy social workers are plunking down the short bussers in front of screens at their sheltered workshops.

by Anonymousreply 11February 4, 2024 9:40 PM

R8 that’s Oscar-winner screenwriter Emerald Fennell to you!

by Anonymousreply 12February 4, 2024 10:10 PM

Anything?

Okay.

Why do you add a space before punctuation?

Never mind, We know the excuses. "High punctuation" in French, as if Quebec's peculiar status matters on the DL.

We are what we are, but we are not savages. Stop it.

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 13February 4, 2024 10:39 PM

I hate emerald fennel I hated her on call the midwife. I am sick of nepo babeze

I have terrible spelling grammar and punctuation

by Anonymousreply 14February 4, 2024 11:40 PM

I have a specific question related to this:

In the movie, there's a scene where Oliver is talking to the old guy about a specific in the house that's on display in a glass case in front of them. He displays knowledge about the item, but briefly during the scene there is a shot of Oliver reading a book that is essentially a catalog of all the fancy items of the estate. I couldn't tell the setting, and was wondering:

Is he reading a copy of the book in his room while visiting the estate in the present, or is he reading it in his dormitory room in the past? I think it was the latter, and would line up with flattening the bicycle tire and other prep work for the visit.

by Anonymousreply 15February 5, 2024 12:04 AM

Boys! Boys! Calm yourselves . I was not prepared for the grammar Nazis. Your corrections are duly noted. R 2: yes and yes . R 3. I cannot describe the nudity in detail. There were flashes of nudity throughout the film. Hole was not presented . R 5: did you get up on the wrong side of the cribby? Why so hostile … it was simply a way to open a discussion R 7: I know the movie has been out for a while . I just got around to watching it and rewatching it a few times . If the topic is too dull for you , then scroll on by. R 8: I only wish I was Emerald fennel . R 13: I’m so sorry . You suffered a major trauma as a result of an over zealous English teacher or both . There is help . R 14: I love you for your terrible grammar and punctuation . R 15: thank you for your contribution . However , you forgot to list the citations - be as exact as you can about when these scenes took place . Watch the movie again and provide us with said details .

Question : what reason did Elspeth give for not liking chocolate cake ? What was Farleigh’s last name , and what is the significance of this name when compared with Quick, as in Oliver Quick? What was the deal with Duncan ? How did Oliver retrieve all four death stones from the bottom of the lake ? Why did Elspeth’s arm slip off Oliver’s shoulder as he laid on top of her in death ? What type of necrophelia does Oliver have and how do you spell it ? What type of font did Elspeth choose for the headstone and what response did Oliver have ? What type of orthodontia would Jacob Elordi benefit from ? What is the appropriate number of times to use the word thus in a paper . Explain

by Anonymousreply 16February 5, 2024 1:36 AM

OP is like a severely autistic child.

by Anonymousreply 17February 5, 2024 1:44 AM

For crissakes take your Abilify and STFU. This mania is not clever or amusing.

by Anonymousreply 18February 5, 2024 1:44 AM

Were autopsies performed on any of these deaths??

by Anonymousreply 19February 5, 2024 2:05 AM

R 19 - good question . I don’t think they were. R 17: Fuck off. Autism is an awful disorder . If you must insult someone …. don’t choose a devastating disorder ,

by Anonymousreply 20February 5, 2024 6:05 AM

Why is it set in 2006, is there a purpose?

Why wasn't an autopsy performed on Felix who dropped dead in the prime of life?

Why did Oliver desecrate Felix's grace with his cock?

Is wanking in a bath without washing it afterwards a thing?

by Anonymousreply 21February 5, 2024 10:44 AM

R16, you only wish you were Emerald Fennell so you would have her square jaw, broad shoulders, wide birthing hips and HUGE uterus!

by Anonymousreply 22February 5, 2024 8:44 PM

I thought it was terrific, I wished I hadn't spoiled the twist by reading on here! That little bastard

by Anonymousreply 23February 17, 2024 7:27 PM

I thought it was terrific, I wished I hadn't spoiled the twist by reading on here! That little bastard

by Anonymousreply 24February 17, 2024 7:28 PM

[quote] I thought it was terrific, I wished I hadn't spoiled the twist by reading on here! That little bastard

You would have had to be retarded not to have seen the big twist coming, even if it hadn't been spoiled here.

by Anonymousreply 25February 17, 2024 7:29 PM

I wonder how Farleigh managed to not get a boner sitting next to a nude Felix in that sun-kissed field

by Anonymousreply 26February 17, 2024 7:44 PM

I’ve been trying to learn Spanish for a while . I accidentally had Spanish subtitles on. Helped my comprehension .

Ok everybody … now trash on me for that . And I disagree that everyone coukd figure out the ending … whoever said that … I guess you’re much smarter than me . Mary !

by Anonymousreply 27February 18, 2024 2:26 AM

R 26: good question . How do we know he didn’t have a boner …. Watching the movie multiple times causes me to think how totally fucking ridiculous the scenes are where Oliver is slurping bath water and then fucking Felix on his grave …. Who comes up with this shit ???

But I still love the movie

by Anonymousreply 28February 18, 2024 2:29 AM

How come there was no autopsy?

by Anonymousreply 29February 20, 2024 6:58 AM

I thought the movie was stupid until the final reveal that Oliver was dead the whole time.

by Anonymousreply 30February 20, 2024 7:11 AM

At what point did Olly decide to kill Felix? Was it when he couldn't talk him around after the visit to Prescott?

by Anonymousreply 31February 20, 2024 7:16 AM

r29 autopsy wouldn't have pinned anything on Oliver. He just added a lethal amount of pills into the champagne, then tossed the bottle into the lake. There are enough eye witnesses to Felix doing drugs that night that it would be a quietly closed case.

by Anonymousreply 32February 20, 2024 8:48 AM

He's a sociopath who planned the whole thing. The movie is kinda dumb but entertaining. No way I'd watch it again tho.

by Anonymousreply 33February 20, 2024 11:23 AM

Modern pills don't kill though. The FDA has made damn sure of that! Unless it's fentanyl. If you ever want to kill yourself using pills these days, good luck with that.

by Anonymousreply 34February 20, 2024 12:52 PM

r34 all he needed was some Fentanyl but this us supposed to be the mid-2000s But that party had loads of drugs. Very easy to make a lethal cocktail. It looked like pills. Rich homes are full of pills. Oliver also planned this by that evening so it's not all that weird to come up with something.

The former CEO of YouTube's son just OD'd in his college dorm. You can easily OD on drugs.

What was weird is that Felix never told anyone and insisted on moving forward with the party. In reality, he would have dismissed him before the guests arrived and come up with an excuse.

by Anonymousreply 35February 20, 2024 2:21 PM

Again that kid OD'd on fentanyl though. You can't just down a bunch of everyday Rx pills like Ambien or Xanax and die. This is a common misconception people have. The FDA has removed just about every Rx drug from the market that could successfully kill a person if taken in OD. Fentanyl and a few other opioids may be the only ones remaining and those are pretty hard to get from a doctor at this point. The good old days of being able to kill ones self peacefully and successfully with an overdose of Nembutal or Seconal are sadly gone. Hell, they've even started infusing helium tanks with 20% oxygen so that people can't kill themselves with those anymore!

by Anonymousreply 36February 20, 2024 4:10 PM

r36 this movie takes place in the UK not America. And we don't know what he gave him. Maybe they weren't traditional drugs. Who knows.

by Anonymousreply 37February 20, 2024 5:17 PM

Felix was very kind, it was really cruel of Oliver to just turn on him like a beast

by Anonymousreply 38February 21, 2024 5:23 AM

I asked this in another thread but didn't get a response, so I'll try again.

Does anybody think Felix figured out that Oliver watched him jacking off in the tub? And decided to lock Oliver's door to the bathroom?

by Anonymousreply 39February 21, 2024 12:24 PM

R 39: good question . I never noticed that Felix decided to lock Oliver’s door . Another reason to watch it again . R 33 : “ he’s a sociopath who planned the whole thing out.” I think that exaggerates the level of Oliver’s intelligence and is not plausible . However, Oliver caused Felix to have a flat tire, early on. This could have been merely a way to make friends with him? Can we believe it was part of some diabolical premeditated plan?

Help me out here.

by Anonymousreply 40February 21, 2024 12:38 PM

R40 I disagree. You don't have to Mayim Bialik-level intelligence to pull off what Oliver did. However, you certainly need to have a degree of "street smarts" and be able to read people to determine if they're susceptible to your con. But in the montage of his crimes, he pulled off A LOT. I don't think a dumb person could do that. I believe that once he got his foot in the door and got into his feelings, he adapted and his plan evolved.

by Anonymousreply 41February 21, 2024 1:06 PM

I take that back. Not dumb but unintelligent or basic

by Anonymousreply 42February 21, 2024 1:09 PM

Why is it called salt burn? Salt doesn’t burn! I tried and we had to call the fire department.

by Anonymousreply 43February 21, 2024 1:14 PM

I saw it and have COMPLETELY forgotten it. What is the big deal????

by Anonymousreply 44February 21, 2024 2:09 PM

From what I’ve read r44 it was engineered to appeal to teenage girls, the number one Netflix audience. Just like so much Netflix fiction content. So it’s hardly surprising you forgot it, you old ‘Mo.

by Anonymousreply 45February 21, 2024 2:33 PM

R 41: Good point. His plan evolved as he got to know them better.

The scene when he found out whatever her name was died. “Oh, she died?” The mom: “ oh yes she’d do anything to get attention.”

A look on Oliver’s face shows ( to me at least ), that he is a bit surprised at this level of coldness . Perhaps it cements and possibly rationalizes his plan

by Anonymousreply 46February 21, 2024 3:10 PM

OP, please don't put a space between the R and the post number.

If you leave them touching, the post you're referencing will pop up for the reader's convenience. Like your post at r46. See?

by Anonymousreply 47February 21, 2024 9:44 PM

Don’t touch! Me there!

by Anonymousreply 48February 21, 2024 10:01 PM

What’s interesting about that family is that the butler clocked Oliver’s energy and intentions from the start. He didn’t fall for a second of Oliver’s bullshit cover. The moment Oliver showed up unannounced, instead of waiting for a car or the pre-determined time instantly had the butler on to him. Can tell from the look in the hall.

Then the breakfast scene with the eggs. Both men were silently having a power struggle. Something the aloof family would pick up on.

When Oliver is seen reviewing the maze replica, the butler mentions people getting lost in the place. What he was really saying is, “bitch, don’t get comfortable.”

The butler knew something was off when Oliver pretended to be confused as everyone was searching for Felix. I also suspect he knew Felix well enough to assume he wouldn’t take massive amounts of drugs leading to his death.

The butler is always lingering his attention on Oliver because he knows he’s a wolf pretending to be a sheep. The butler is always analyzing people and sees Oliver as a threat.

Another reviewer said the butler doesn’t intervene because his loyalty is to the house above all else, like a piece of furniture. Doesn’t help that the Lord thinks he’s smarter then he is so probably wouldn’t listen to his butler if warned.

The butler was the most interesting character.

by Anonymousreply 49February 22, 2024 8:47 AM

Something the aloof family wouldn’t* pick up on.

by Anonymousreply 50February 22, 2024 8:48 AM

R49 It's ALWAYS the British servants who figure shit out wayyy before everyone.

I felt like there should’ve been more scenes showing us WHEN Oliver decided to cross that line. To me, it felt like he woke up the next day and decided that he was going to fuck with EVERYONE.

by Anonymousreply 51February 22, 2024 10:57 AM

r51 someone said it was the moment the gay cousin returned and told Oliver that he would never have a spot in a place like Saltburn. But still, I didn't see the switch go off or a turning point.

by Anonymousreply 52February 22, 2024 11:51 AM

I assumed he switched his plan up to kill Felix whenever he was exposed during the birthday trip and couldn't talk Felix around. Whether or not he had murderous plans for the future he knew it was now or never.

by Anonymousreply 53February 22, 2024 1:14 PM

I don’t understand all the overly dramatic reactions by straight people to certain scenes. I watched all of the often mentioned scenes and there was nothing there to justify their reactions. I can imagine they would really freak out if they saw something more interesting but still tame, like two fists in a man’s rectum.

by Anonymousreply 54February 22, 2024 1:30 PM

They should do a sequel where Felix's child, conceived in the maze, comes to reclaim Saltburn

by Anonymousreply 55February 22, 2024 1:46 PM

great film, except for the fuckery at the last seven minutes.

by Anonymousreply 56February 22, 2024 1:48 PM

It would have made more sense if Oliver explained he only decided to kill when it was clear Felix/his family would never share their life with him and he wasn't going to let them reject him the way they did Poor Pamela. It would make more sense at least

by Anonymousreply 57February 22, 2024 1:54 PM

R54 I have to admit, as a gay man, the infamous bathtub scene skeeved me the FUCK out. So, I can imagine how the straights reacted. Licking it off bedsheets is one thing but slurping it along with bathwater...man, that was some nasty shit.

by Anonymousreply 58February 23, 2024 10:20 AM

Apparently period blood is nbd to straights though so it all evened out.

by Anonymousreply 59February 23, 2024 12:48 PM

[quote]I have to admit, as a gay man, the infamous bathtub scene skeeved me the FUCK out.

you and your straight friends are prisspots then

by Anonymousreply 60February 23, 2024 1:02 PM

[quote] I have to admit, as a gay man, the infamous bathtub scene skeeved me the FUCK out

Can we assume that you have never rimmed a guy or watched a porn video with piss drinking?

by Anonymousreply 61February 23, 2024 2:45 PM

R60 SURE....

R61 One out of two ain't bad

by Anonymousreply 62February 24, 2024 10:44 AM

R62 have you eaten ass or watched pee-porn?

by Anonymousreply 63February 24, 2024 11:18 AM

R49 Your comments on the butler are spot on. Whoever posted about Farleigh returning to Saltburn….. great idea.

I have weirdly thought about last names . Oliver QUICK Farlegh START — farleigh started the Saltburn grift and Oliver was quick to finish it.

by Anonymousreply 64February 25, 2024 6:36 AM

He had a plan from the beginning.

by Anonymousreply 65February 25, 2024 6:54 AM

R49 The butler is also seen in the background, very far back, observing the grave-fucking. It was so subtle (or the fucking was so unexpected) that I think a lot of people missed it.

by Anonymousreply 66February 25, 2024 7:21 AM

R66 never noticed that!

I don't think he had a proper plan until he met the whole family and observed their weaknesses. The sister could have totally shunned him or the mother could have totally shut him down after losing her son.

by Anonymousreply 67February 25, 2024 9:30 AM

R66 WHAAAAT? I never noticed that either. Goddamnit, I'm gonna have to watch it again.

by Anonymousreply 68February 25, 2024 10:40 AM

Barry Keoghan has a nice cock. Good job, because he has a face like a battering ram.

by Anonymousreply 69February 25, 2024 11:22 AM

Shame Felix didn't even show his ass, maybe in a scene where Oliver watches him get undressed.

The hottest scene in The Talented Mr Ripley was Jude Law getting out of the tub and teasing Tom with a full viewing

by Anonymousreply 70February 25, 2024 11:26 AM

I'm watching SALTBURN for the 1st time. I just found out I am an Oliver, but I stopped trying to fit in after the 1st month.

My roommate was the 3rd generation of Canadian& American billionaires at Northwestern, I was the blonde-haired psycho who could do hard math in his head, I was Oliver with dark brown hair, scars, and "total white trash from Philadelphia."

BTW, I loathe Farleigh, I knew guys like him!! That tuxedo scene, I actually had that happen to me with a Farleigh!!

by Anonymousreply 71March 28, 2024 2:29 AM

R71 did you think Felix was a beauty?

by Anonymousreply 72March 28, 2024 4:01 AM

Yes, classically beautiful, great hair, very tall, had one of those wealthy families that knew about stuff& sounded "alien" to me. Felix was my "Richie" at Northwestern.
