I disagree, OP, in that I think it’s very much a showcase for Barry Keoghan, though I liked Jacob Elordi in it too.

Yes, Elordi is tall and handsome and perfectly cast as the wealthy Golden Boy. His body is very nice but too lanky for my taste.

I found Keoghan’s appealing homeliness more to my taste and I preferred his curvy, compact little body, which I found quite sexy. And I loved his bravura extended nude scene. He has a very pretty cock, pleasingly fat even when flaccid.

“Saltburn” may not be up to much ultimately, but it manages to stay interesting and entertaining with a mood of menace and malevolence. As a black comedy about hatred of the rich, entitled and stupid, it’s amusing. And I’d say it was a cross between “The Servant” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” Decent size crowd at a late afternoon showing in NYC. Recommended.

R4 not OP but I keep saying I’m going to see Anatomy of a Fall and keep putting it off. I wanna see the others mentioned though, minus Saltburn, which I watched last week at an early screening and then again Tuesday with my sisters at another early screening. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would and enjoyed it even more the second time for some reason, but also noticed its flaws even louder at the same time (Keoghan playing the part with this evil undertone really is the films biggest downfall because it takes away from the big reveal).

R3 I don’t recall comparing their looks. I am speaking of their performances and the film. Elordi’s looks were needed for this role, however. You can’t cast someone who looks like Keoghan as the object of everyone’s affection. That is for someone like Elordi or our Paul.

I also loved those very brief, gentle moments where Oliver would sit there fantasizing about Felix. I actually wish those brief moments were featured more often. Again, sorry, I was seated close! If I watch it again I will try to sit further back to get better shots

I made a thread on this movie last week, and agree about Elordi. He radiates off the screen in this movie. I am not shocked at all that he’s getting so much attention right now, with the combo of this and Priscilla, where he gives two completely opposite performances and does well with both. Rosamund Pike is a treasure and she rang true as the matriarch of a very rich aristocratic family. And I think Barry was good but uneven and played the character too dark and venomous from the start. Maybe that’s what the director wanted but it makes no sense when there is a big reveal because you already know he’s behind everything by the time it’s shown.

Many of the critics criticizing it a lot are mostly harsh of the films final 20-40 minutes. Basically, once Felix is no longer around the film becomes over the top, predictable and slows down. The movie is better while Elordi is in it. He added so much charm to every scene.

The scene where they officially meet. Of course he knows who Felix is and is more than happy to help him. We see how this moment came to be at the end of the movie.

I’ve been watching a lot of critics predictions in different categories and Elordi is on most of their long lists but he’s not on anyone’s short list (which is understandable during a year when there are so many damn performances in contention). I agree with what this guy says (he’s predicted every BSActor win correctly since 2016 minus one, the year Mark Rylance won). Elordi is worthy but it’s not likely because there are too many performances in contention for the Best Supporting Actor category this year. If he does somehow get in it will be for Priscilla BUT Saltburn is the better performance.

Good morning gentlemen. Yesterday I stated that my partner wanted to go watch this and I would accompany him, and I did. I did not have time to sign on and give my own personal opinions, but i will now.

Personally, I enjoyed the film very much, up to the final 30 minutes or so, that is. The film is beautiful to look at, with beautiful cinematography, a beautiful setting and wonderful acting from its cast. I also enjoyed the script for the most part. My issue was the twist in what Oliver’s motive was in the end. When the film feels like a fatal attraction plot with young rich British people and has a sorta gay twist, it is amazing. After Felix is dead the film rushes and goes from bright, charming and engaging to dull and sloppy and rushed. I did not enjoy the final 20-30 minutes of this film, but liked everything prior to it very very much.

If Emerald kept the film as a young and very rich version Talented Mr. Ripley meets Cruel Intentions meets The Servant, it would be received much better than making Saltburn be the ultimate motive in the end.

However, even if you don’t enjoy the final moments of the film, it’s still worth a watch because it is still an entertaining film with some amazing things going for it.

The lead was terrific but I do agree he played up the villain arc pretty early on, so when Felix is found dead you aren’t thinking “who did this?” but instead you’re just waiting for everyone in the film to realize it’s him.

Rosamund Pike was a delight! She had me in stitches. I had no idea she had such sharp comedic timing! I laughed so much at her line about being a lesbian for a little while in her youth but everything was too wet for her, men are lovely and dry.

Jacob Elordi is a sight to be seen. I’ve only ever seen him in Priscilla prior to this but will keep an eye out for him. What a lovely young man. Very handsome, very talented, and he is the heart of the film. Once Felix is gone, the film suffers. I do know he is in Euphoria but have not watched it because it’s really not a show I think I would like, but maybe will give it a shot. Your eyes gravitate toward him in any scene he is in. He steals the leads shine without even trying, in my opinion, but none of them rival Ms. Pike.

I recommend giving it a watch. It appears to be a very divisive film, so it’s best to watch and make your own opinion on it. I’ve seen some people claim to dislike it greatly while other absolutely love it, and then there are those like myself who liked it mostly but not everything about it.

I went ahead and spoiled the movie for myself. I read an article on Vice’s website where two critics discussed whether the movie was overrated or not. The critic who loved the movie talked about enjoying the queasy/ick/unsettling moments in the film. I’m not really one to enjoy that kind of stuff so that’s why I decided to just read a recap/spoiler.

I think the queasy ick moments are to add a bit of life into a pretty lifeless story.

Emerald is from a wealthy family. Her “eat the rich” story is ironic.

It’s also noted that Sir James is the one with the money (we don’t know if Elspeth comes from wealth also) and Saltburn is very old and from his families side. You learn of Sir James fortune when Felix is telling Oliver about Farleigh’s mother (his aunt) and how she moved to America at 19 and married a lunatic who spent her fortune and part of his fathers as well, before Sir James finally cut her off.

I knew it was going to be dark when the trailers and pre-show were dark — that green MPA thing was moss green instead of closer to lime green. Ugh. The only other place near near me is an AMC and their projection is often too dark as well.

What was the deal with her? Did you listen to any of the dialogue? She was someone who clearly depended on men to provide for her but always picked bad ones. Her latest one was a billionaire whose partners kept “randomly falling out windows”. After she dumped him she stayed with the family, hiding out pretty much. Shortly after they kicked her out she ended up dying. We never found out how.

Saltburn is a real place in England, I saw it on a map t'other day!

I'm late, but I finally caught up on Saltburn on Prime. I really enjoyed it and am actually kind of surprised by the (mostly) lukewarm critical reception. I usually don't enjoy things that go a little pulpy and ridiculously over the top, but... I think Emerald & co made it work by keeping the sinister and devilishly funny atmosphere throughout. I also enjoyed her Promising Young Woman despite it, also, straining credulity at times. That said, I imagine she'd really not be suited to doing a full length TV drama or limited series as the thing would probably go off the rails by the end. I couldn't stand more than an episode of two of Killing Eve, so...

Anyway, imperfect, but VERY entertaining film. Look forward to see what she does next!

Being an aristocrat is based SOLELY on ancestry and nothing to do with wealth. Yes there are loads of filthy rich aristos but you can live in social housing and be an aristo simply by being the Duke Of Buggerington's grandson

My favourite aristo is Laura Murray, a Jeremy Corbyn staffer who lost an expensive libel case against Jewish tv presenter Rachel Riley, Laura's father is Putinist Andrew Murray, grandson of 2nd Baron Rankeillour and her mother is Susan Michie, granddaughter of 2nd Baron Aberconway.

Best final 6-7 minutes of a film EVER? (the final two scenes) If you've got a good sound system with a subwoofer or two, the organ music that plays during the tube-yanking scene is fucking epic, and then you're immediately treated to some homoerotic D & A. I must've watched the ending to this movie 10 times now!
