Lindsay Wagner appreciation thread

She was my fave actress growing up as a gayling in bleaksville. She won an Emmy award in 1977 for lead actress in a drama series for her portrayal as Jaime Sommers in The Bionic Woman. That ABC/NBC series made her a star and a household name during the late 70s. Throughout her 50 yr career she has starred in theatrical films, television films and series and commercials. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (purchased by members of her fan club). She is currently staring in an upcoming indie film, When Jack Came Back. It is accumulating film festival awards. Enjoy some links I’ve provided and share your thoughts on this amazing actress.

I love Lindsay now as much as I did during the last half-dozen threads that were started about her.

She always seemed a little wacky, but a great actress.

by Anonymousreply 9February 5, 2023 1:36 PM

I had heard one time that she had the highest Q rating in the country and that's why Ford hired her to do those commercials for so many years.

by Anonymousreply 10February 5, 2023 1:37 PM

She sucked overall, and specifically, she stole the 1977 Best Actress Emmy from Sada Thompson.

Wow, she played two characters in an episode of a shitty sci-fi series that didn't even rack up 60 episodes—groundbreaking.

Best Actress my ass.

Ooh, the first Lindsay thread of 2023. Another chance to post my favorite songbird in flight.

I think her playing her own Fembot was very creatively liberating for her, without being the drag of the Patty Duke Show or Parent Trap.

by Anonymousreply 13February 5, 2023 1:48 PM

R10 speaks blasphemy. Lindsay deserved that Emmy. No one has even heard of Sada whoever.

by Anonymousreply 14February 5, 2023 1:55 PM

She was the wrong choice for Scruples. I disliked her back in the day though I loved Bionic Woman. Thinking back, I have an appreciation for the naturalistic (not the right word but I don’t know how else to describe it) style she brought to her acting.

You’re doing God’s work, recognizing my beloved Lindsay, OP.

R13, to my knowledge she never portrayed her own Fembot. Only Richard Anderson (Oscar) and Jennifer Darling (Callahan) did.

by Anonymousreply 19February 5, 2023 3:16 PM

I thought she was so great in her debut as Jaime Somers at the time. She immediately made the character very vulnerable, funny, and human.

Of course, she was acting opposite a brick wall (Lee Majors) so one could either argue she had a greater challenge to work with OR that compared to him anyone would’ve come out looking like Katherine Hepburn.

by Anonymousreply 20February 5, 2023 5:48 PM

R20 well, technically two brick walls, Richard Anderson had the range of a block of marble.

by Anonymousreply 21February 5, 2023 5:55 PM

^ Aw, take it easy on me, babe!

by Anonymousreply 22February 5, 2023 5:56 PM

Eat my ass, babe

by Anonymousreply 23February 5, 2023 8:37 PM

I’ve followed her career for almost 50 years and am surprised she’s never had a public relationship, to my knowledge, since her 4th marriage ended in 1993. That’s a long time.

I visited Mill Valley when I was in Northern California just because I knew she lived there and had hoped to causally run into her on the street or at the famous gardening store there. “Oh hey Lindsey! I’m just picking up this hoe to take back to NYC!”

I also went to Ojai as ground zero for Jamie Summers, despite its reputation I was very disappointed by Ojai.

by Anonymousreply 25February 6, 2023 4:30 AM

R25 what is Ojai, CA like? I’m sure it’s changed since it was the backdrop for BW in 1978.

by Anonymousreply 26February 6, 2023 12:44 PM

R25, it”s “Lindsay “ and “Sommers”.

Don’t EVER make that mistake again!

The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The nominees are:

Lindsay Wagner for The Bionic Woman (ABC)

Kate Jackson for Charlie’s Angels (ABC)

Michael Learned for The Waltons (CBS)

And the winner is…

LINDSAY WAGNER FOR THE BIONIC WOMAN!

Angie Dickinson for Police Woman (NBC)

Sada Thompson for Family (ABC)

by Anonymousreply 28April 13, 2024 8:32 PM

She was a cunt to Graham Norton for no apparent reason.

by Anonymousreply 29April 13, 2024 8:35 PM

How bad did Kate want that Emmy? Maybe it would have eased the pain of Kramer vs. Kramer.

by Anonymousreply 30April 13, 2024 9:03 PM

'Scruples' mini-series was supposed to be brought back as a night-time soap on the network, but for some reason plans fell through.

Wagner also did a strange episode of 'Kate & Allie' where she portrayed a 'cooking instructor' (IIRC) which was a 'back door pilot' for her own series the following season. It got picked up, and Wagner filmed a few episodes that summer, but then CBS canceled it before it ever premiered that September.

by Anonymousreply 31April 13, 2024 9:30 PM

R29 fuck him.

R21: Seriously. The dogs that portrayed Max were better "actors".

Richard Anderson. He's the male Anne Meara. Stunk up everything he was in but worked nonstop.

by Anonymousreply 34April 13, 2024 10:43 PM

R34 I felt he was believable in his role as Oscar Goldman in The Six Million Dollar Man AND The Bionic Woman.

Here is an excerpt from The Bionic Woman episode Fembots in Las Vegas. Jennifer Darling’s character Callahan is cloned as a Fembot and is ready for combat.

LOL Callahan. I remember her being a family favorite when she was on screen.

by Anonymousreply 37April 14, 2024 9:43 PM

There weren’t many challenging dramatic roles for women on TV in the late ‘70s.

by Anonymousreply 38April 14, 2024 11:28 PM

I liked her on "Warehouse 13".

by Anonymousreply 39April 15, 2024 1:16 AM

I like her but sometimes I can barely understand her when she’s doing her trembling mumbling thing with her voice.

by Anonymousreply 40April 15, 2024 1:33 AM

There was something very likeable about her.

by Anonymousreply 41April 15, 2024 1:35 AM

[quote] I think her playing her own Fembot was very creatively liberating for her, without being the drag of the Patty Duke Show or Parent Trap.

there's something very existential about having your face pulled off and facing "yourself" with circuitry there.
