Hejira and Don Juan's Reckless Daughter by Joni Mitchell are (more-or-less) tied for my most-played albums. I'm a Joni and Joni Pastorius aficionado and those albums never pall.

Hasten down the Wind, by Linda Ronstadt. The Great Love of My Life dumped me two days before I bought it. And it's the perfect album for that. It's also the album I put on whenever I buy a new piece of audio equipment.
In the non-somebody done me wrong category, the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and Smile are tied for favorite album.
Half the songs on Born to Run are among the greatest songs of my lifetime, but the other half aren't.
Warren Zevon's first Asylum LP is perfect. I loved LA as he saw it and sang about it.
And then there's Mahler.

I also have to go with Fleetwood Mac -- "Tango in the Night." I was 15 when it came out, and had been listening non-stop to my parents' copy of "Rumours" over the previous year or so. So it became a teenage obsession and it's one that I still go back to for comfort/nostalgia, while continuing to be impressed by their craft.
Other all-time favorites: Joni Mitchell's "Hejira," Neil Young's "Live Rust," Talking Heads' "Remain in Light," REM's "Automatic for the People," Sonic Youth's "EVOL," Brian Eno's "Another Green World," Miles Davis' "Sketches of Spain," Sleater Kinney's "The Woods."

Toad the Wet Sprocket: Dulcinea (reminds me of my early 20’s, opening the windows in springtime in my sunny apartment and just vegging with a drink, enjoying my existence.)
Tool: 10,000 Days (it’s a solid, hard album with great songs that flow into one another. It covers the dying and the death of the lead singer’s mom a little, which hit close to home when it happened to me. Plus, like all Tool albums, I hear something new, something different with every listen. Also, the song “Sober” by Tool sucks and I really hate that most people think that’s the range of the band.)
I’m a big fan of all kinds of music-just not the entire albums of most bands.

More Than a New Discovery - Laura Nyro: Utterly soulful, glorious songs and vocals. My sister turned me onto her an eternity ago.
Get Happy! - Elvis Costello and The Attractions: Catchy-as-hell album by one of the best lyricists ever, also very soulful in its way.
Damned Damned Damned - The Damned: Insanely high energy, meant to be listened to at top volume, great driving music!

Sandinista! the triple LP masterpiece by my favorite band, The Clash.
Sandinista! is the fourth studio album by English punk rock band the Clash. It was released on 12 December 1980 as a triple album containing 36 tracks, with 6 songs on each side. It crosses various genres including funk, reggae, jazz, gospel, rockabilly, folk, dub, rhythm and blues, calypso, disco, and rap. For the first time, the band's traditional songwriting credits of Strummer and Jones were replaced by a generic credit to the Clash. The band agreed to a decrease in album royalties in order to release the 3-LP at a low price.
The title refers to the Sandinistas in Nicaragua, and its catalogue number, 'FSLN1', refers to the abbreviation of the party's Spanish name, Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional.
This is also the only Clash album on which all four members have a lead vocal. Drummer Topper Headon made a unique lead vocal contribution on the song "Ivan Meets G.I. Joe", and Simonon sings lead on "The Crooked Beat"
according to Joe Strummer, the decision to release a triple-LP was their way of mocking CBS for resisting their desire to release London Calling as a double album, then releasing Bruce Springsteen's double album The River less than a year later. Strummer took pleasure in the abundance, saying "It was doubly outrageous. Actually, it was triply outrageous." Mick Jones said, "I always saw it as a record for people who were, like, on oil rigs. Or Arctic stations. People that weren't able to get to the record shops regularly."
The band's wish to release the album at a low price was also met with resistance, and they had to forgo any royalties on the first 200,000 copies sold in the UK and a 50% cut in royalties elsewhere.

R74, funny you included Born This Way by Gaga.
I had no connection to that album when it came out. Did nothing for me. Nor did Gaga. She was just another pop star to me. However, Artpop made me a fan of hers, but I never went back and listened to her first three albums.
But I recently did just that.
And I am totally in love with Born This Way. It's not the singles that I like (I do, but I know those songs). It's the deeper cuts. It's really an astoundingly daring pop album. Especially considering she was the biggest thing in the world at that time.

Played “Patience” by George Michael a great deal when it came out.
Presciently, he stated it would be his last physical album. (Said that he would put up his songs on the internet for free download from there on out as he said life had been “good to him” and granted him $$$$ to do so.)
We all know what happened next on that Christmas Day, sadly.
The tracks on the album I play frequently now and there is a sort of wistfulness about them that goes beyond the general wistfulness GM used to generally exude.
I hope he’s happy wherever he is.

Smile - the Beach Boys. Here's a live concert version by its composer, Brian Wilson, and his touring band, the Wondermints, in 2006. I saw it in DC in 2005, and it is the concert of my life. "Heroes and Villains," from which most of the rest of it springs, has been a favorite song since 1967, and the album a favorite since I discovered a coherent version of it on their 1993 box set, Good Vibrations.
Yes, I even like it more than my Linda Ronstadt albums.

So many great albums on this thread that I’d almost completely forgotten about, but that I’d listen to obsessively in my youth!
Today’s favourite throw-back: Throbbing Gristle’s 20 Jazz Funk Greats.

1987 Heaven On Earth album is the best that I've ever listened to =

There are many, some mentioned above.
By shear volume of listens, for me it would have to be Natalie Merchant’s Ophelia.

Such a journey from end to end. Takes me back to a younger self, and is still so innovative. You are loved Kate.

Yes, I'm gayer than laughter, and yes, a lot of people DO like it. As a matter of fact it has NEVER been out of print in the sixty-three years since it was initially released (that means "dropped")!
