BUT FIRST: Leslie Moonves Accused of Sexual Misconduct in Ronan Farrow Expose

The CBS CEO, one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, is accused of unwanted kissing and touching in a New Yorker article set to be published Friday. The New Yorker is poised to publish an article by Ronan Farrow that includes allegations of sexual misconduct on the part of embattled CBS chairman and CEO Leslie Moonves, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

CBS declined to comment. A spokesperson for The New Yorker says “We don't comment on pieces we haven't published." Sources with knowledge of the article say it delves into the broader culture at CBS and will publish later today on the magazine’s website.

The allegations are said in part to involve instances of unwanted kissing and touching that occurred more than twenty years ago.

Moonves, 68, has been married to CBS personality Julie Chen since 2004. (The two wed less than two weeks after Moonves finalized his divorce from Nancy Wiesenfeld, whom he had married in 1978.)

Farrow, the reporter who won a Pulitzer Prize for breaking news of Harvey Weinstein’s alleged pattern of rape and sexual assault, is said to have investigated Moonves and the environment at CBS for months as rumors swirled through the industry that such an article was in the works.

It is unclear what impact The New Yorker report will have at a time when Moonves is locked in litigation with Shari Redstone, the controlling shareholder in both CBS and Viacom. The feud erupted after CBS resisted Redstone’s desire to merge the two companies, which she controls through voting shares in the Redstone family-controlled trust, National Amusements Inc.

CBS sued Redstone in May to prevent her from attempting to take control by ousting directors or changing bylaws. Redstone responded with her own lawsuit saying Moonves had no right to strip her of control of CBS.

CBS received unwelcome scrutiny in November when it fired Charlie Rose after The Washington Post reported that eight women had accused the talk-show host and co-anchor of CBS This Morning of sexual misconduct. In a May 3 follow-up, the paper reported that CBS managers had been warned about Rose's conduct on three occasions, as early as in 1986 (long before Moonves worked at the network) and as recently as in April 2017. Among an additional 27 women who came forward with allegations against Rose were 14 CBS News employees.

A charismatic one-time actor, Moonves has long wielded exceptionally tight control over CBS while producing exceptional results. He has kept hits on the air during a turbulent time for the broadcast business: In 2017, CBS ranked as the most-watched network in terms of total viewers (as it had done for nine consecutive years) though it trailed NBC in the 18-to-49 demo.

With entertainment habits changing fast, Moonves launched the CBS All Access streaming service with a spinoff of The Good Wife and a revamped Star Trek series.

Moonves joined CBS in 1995 and remained there after Sumner Redstone acquired the company in 2000. He took the network from last to first place in the ratings with hits including Everybody Loves Raymond, Survivor and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

In 2006, when Viacom split its businesses into two publicly traded companies, Moonves was named president and CEO of the newly formed CBS Corp. He became chairman in 2016.

Moonves has a close-knit executive cadre working for him but he is known to demand great loyalty and he has made enemies along the way. When Howard Stern jumped from CBS Radio to Sirius Satellite, Moonves sued the shock jock for $500 million, prompting Stern to go on CBS’ own Late Show wearing an “I Hate Les Moonves” shirt.

Ronan's great. Just expose them all. Every single jerk.

I WIN!

Hope Ronan has many large body guards.

by Anonymousreply 3July 27, 2018 4:01 PM

Ronan is my gay hero. Did he come out yet?

by Anonymousreply 4July 27, 2018 4:04 PM

Not surprised.

by Anonymousreply 5July 27, 2018 4:04 PM

I think he came out as a member of the LGBTQ community.

by Anonymousreply 6July 27, 2018 4:05 PM

LOL R6. Interestingly in a reality show big brother [it is on CBS] a gay House guest also introduced himself in same way

by Anonymousreply 7July 27, 2018 4:08 PM

Let us shed a tear for Mrs. Moonves.

Her repeated facelifts and Botox render her unable to shed her own tears.

by Anonymousreply 8July 27, 2018 4:12 PM

Somewhere on Park Avenue, Shari Redstone's pussy just broke out in a rendition of "You're Gonna Hear From Me".

by Anonymousreply 9July 27, 2018 4:15 PM

It would be extremely weird if a studio dinosaur like Les didn't have a #MeToo skeleton in his closet.

by Anonymousreply 10July 27, 2018 4:16 PM

Personally I think that everyone at that power level has done their fair share of taking advantage (sexually and otherwise) of underlings. I just assume the ones who don't get named have paid off the right people.

by Anonymousreply 11July 27, 2018 4:20 PM

The public has moved on from these #MeToo stories, so Moonves is probably safe in that regard. He's got bigger problems with Redstone and might lose his job that way.

by Anonymousreply 12July 27, 2018 4:20 PM

If he does lose his job he has plenty of money. He'll be fine.

by Anonymousreply 13July 27, 2018 4:44 PM

So this is "it" right? The big story we've been hearing about for the past 6 months?

@RonanFarrow has been working on this long before Moonves public battle with Shari Redstone so this shouldn’t be seen as some plot by her allies.

What is a redstone camp ?

by Anonymousreply 18July 27, 2018 5:01 PM

Karma for giving Brad Kern a new two-year deal in June. That POS has had two internal investigations into his sexual harassment in two years. And that was even before the Weinstein revelations so you know it's bad that people reported him.

Pigs will always cover for pigs.

by Anonymousreply 19July 27, 2018 5:08 PM

CBS recently fired two Star Trek: Discovery showrunners for bullying the writers. Of course, there are totally different standards for Moonves and Kern.

by Anonymousreply 20July 27, 2018 5:11 PM

R17 Sorry, but I don't buy it. Remember the Weinstein story only broke because Harvey's brother leaked Harvey's personal file (he was trying to remove Harvey from the Weinstein Company and gain sole control over the company). That said, I'm no fan of Moonves or of him putting his wife all over CBS. I predict he steps down but what happens to Julie Chen and all her shows on CBS? Does she support him or throw him under the bus to save her career (which only exists because she was sleeping with and later married the CEO).

by Anonymousreply 21July 27, 2018 5:14 PM

On whether or not Ronan is now out: Jon Lovett has started acknowledging their relationship a little more in interviews. He still doesn’t use his name, but he makes it clear that this boyfriend (Farrow) is famous.

Sumner Redstone is still alive, age 95. Is he ga-ga?

by Anonymousreply 30July 27, 2018 5:34 PM

Like a poster upstream, I, too, think that every single man in a position of power has a MeToo moment in his past. Those who rise to the top are going to be more aggressive, hard driving, alpha, etc. Good guys who obey the rules are generally not the one on top of an organization. Also, the accusations are from 20 years ago when the climate was much different. I know that doesn't excuse bad behavior, but it is wrong to judge past behavior with the standards of today. Although I certainly would never engage in sexual misbehavior now that I realize how wrong it is, I certainly engaged in it 20 odd years ago, when I had a fairly senior position at a large fashion house. It was the prevailing culture, and it was not out of the norm. Was it right? In retrospect, no, it was not right at all, but it was so ingrained into the company's culture that we -- or I -- never stopped to think about how inappropriate it was. If I were in the public eye, I would be guilty of having committed egregious behavior 20 years ago, but would that really be fair, if my behavior changed once I realized it was wrong?

by Anonymousreply 31July 27, 2018 5:36 PM

R31 A similar argument was used at Nuremberg.

by Anonymousreply 32July 27, 2018 5:41 PM

Anyway Ronan shall now heretofore always be referred to as Ro on Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 41July 27, 2018 7:00 PM

One thing I've learned from the Chris Hardwick situation is that an accusation alone is not enough.

by Anonymousreply 42July 27, 2018 7:01 PM

R31 - Sexual harassment wasn't considered OK twenty years ago. You may have used your position to intimidate people so they wouldn't report it. Twenty years ago was 1998. We'd been through high profile sexual harassment cases: Clarence Thomas, Bill Clinton and Bob Packwood. I know I had been thorough at least one training seminar on preventing and reporting sexual harassment years before 1998.

In other words no, it was not an acceptable or normal workplace behavior. You should consider yourself lucky that the people you abused didn't come forward. What did you threaten them with?

by Anonymousreply 43July 27, 2018 7:03 PM

Wow, Ro.......

by Anonymousreply 44July 27, 2018 7:05 PM

R43 Also don't forget the Bob Barker lawsuits (first Dian Parkinson, then Holly Hallstrom) and Martin Lawrence/Tisha Campbell lawsuit.

by Anonymousreply 45July 27, 2018 7:19 PM

Chris Hardwick lucked out that he had Hearst money and their "investigators" behind him.

by Anonymousreply 46July 27, 2018 7:25 PM

[quote]Twenty years ago was 1998.

Ouch.

While I know that, it hurts to see it in print.

by Anonymousreply 47July 27, 2018 7:37 PM

The "investigators" don't work for the Hearst Family, r46. The law firm worked on behalf of a non-Hearst related trust administrator of the William Hearst Foundation.

What I think you meant to say was, "Chris Hardwick lucked out when AMC contracted a prominent woman lawyer who handles investigations for the Times Up movement."

by Anonymousreply 48July 27, 2018 7:38 PM

When did Julie Chen come into the picture? Has she had any comment on this?

by Anonymousreply 49July 27, 2018 7:40 PM

R49 She started sleeping with him shortly after he became CEO and while he was still married to Nancy Wiesenfeld

by Anonymousreply 50July 27, 2018 7:45 PM

R46 Yes if he got Jules Koll on retainer, he would get away with it. Jules Kroll kept Harvey Weinstein out of trouble for decades. Nick Kroll is a friend of Hardwick. I wonder if he got a discount for services. Nick Kroll has also funded Nerdist for years and has been on Harwick's podcast more than any other comedian. Wacko stuff going on in Hollywood these days, or maybe it was always that way.

by Anonymousreply 51July 27, 2018 8:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 52July 27, 2018 8:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 54July 27, 2018 9:13 PM

by Anonymousreply 55July 27, 2018 9:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 58July 27, 2018 9:22 PM

I don't think one woman could bring him down. It would take a pattern of behavior with multiple women. Ronan tweeted - and it sounds like he's got some serious stuff.

by Anonymousreply 59July 27, 2018 9:28 PM

I take it you don't know her whole story, r57, including her posting a completely different account of the blacklisting on Reddit a few months ago. And she got caught lying about the break up with the texts. So, while we don't know the whole story, what we do know makes her look like a loon with a grudge.

by Anonymousreply 69July 27, 2018 9:52 PM

I'm sorry if this is just ass grabbing allegations from decades ago, I don't give a shit. It wasn't right, but it was a different era. Posters like r63 above are showing the true colours of the hashtag. They're women who are pissed off at adultery and not being treated like princesses, and angry that other women who would fuck these types to get ahead stalled their careers. It's about revenge and social media attention. Chris Hardwick went through hell, because he was an asshole in a relationship. What happened to Spacey, who had the most serious allegations? Nothing. Male (alleged) victims, no one gives a shit. Now the Machiavellian 1% media are all looking to make their careers on it. They know, to paraphrase Voltaire, whom they can and can't investigate.

I'm more concerned about current egregious harassment/assault, rape and pedophilia. Notice how no one is reporting on that, i.e. doing the old school investigative journalism.

by Anonymousreply 70July 27, 2018 9:52 PM

R72, yet you felt compelled to come into the thread and post a comment?

by Anonymousreply 74July 27, 2018 9:57 PM

"Come on, you’re not some nubile virgin.” Damn, Leslie is such a smooth operator

by Anonymousreply 75July 27, 2018 9:58 PM

I always wondered why Illeana sort of went off the rails careerwise. Like Mira Sorvino, there were other forces at work.

But WHO is the woman who was on a CBS police drama in the 80s that wouldn't mention her name?

by Anonymousreply 76July 27, 2018 10:00 PM

A prominent actress who played a police officer on a long-running CBS program, who was too frightened of reprisals to use her name, said that she also attended a business meeting with Moonves that ended in unwanted advances. The actress had known Moonves for years. In the late eighties, at the height of her show’s popularity, Moonves, who was then at a production company called Lorimar, requested a lunch meeting at a restaurant. There, Moonves told the actress that he had long had a crush on her but had not said anything to her because she had been in a relationship with a mutual friend. She declined his advance but thanked him for lunch. “It wasn’t offensive,” she recalled. In 1995, when Moonves became president of CBS Entertainment, the actress called to congratulate him. “He said, ‘You should have fucked me when I asked you to,’ and I said, ‘No shit!’ ” the actress told me. They laughed.

Soon afterward, CBS Business Affairs informed the actress that her series deal with CBS was being terminated. She called Moonves and expressed shock. He requested a lunch meeting in his private dining room at the office. She told me, “I went in, I thought, to make a deal.” At the lunch, Moonves told her that he intended to focus on younger talent, and that she was too old. “Then he again said, ‘I’ve always been so attracted to you,’ ” she told me. “I was so upset. I said, ‘Jesus, Leslie, I’m gonna go.’ ” Moonves asked her to sit down. She did so, pushing food around her plate until she had to leave. Then, she told me, “I walked over and leaned to give him a kiss on the cheek.” Moonves, she said, grabbed her and forcibly kissed her: “He shoved his tongue down my throat. I mean shoved.”

Appalled, she pushed him away. “He had approached me to go to bed with him twice, but he did it politely,” she said. “But this time he just stuck his tongue down my throat.” As she left, she began to cry. “No one had ever done that to me before,” she said. “I found it sickening.”

Like Douglas, the actress said that she never worked for CBS again. Almost two decades later, an executive at CBS contacted her about coming back to the network. It turned out that the executive wanted her to sign a book deal with Simon & Schuster, which is owned by CBS. (CBS said that Moonves has no recollection of making unwelcome advances toward the actress, and that he made no efforts to block future business between her and CBS.)

The actress thought that the consequences would be too great if she told CBS about the incident. “I never reported it,” she told me. “I just thought, Gee, there goes my career.” At an event not long afterward, she encountered a showrunner who has overseen multiple programs at CBS, and told her the story. The showrunner, who had also worked with Moonves, recalled that the actress was still hurt by the incident and told me that she was “not surprised” by the story. “I had already had to deal with misogynist bullying from him myself,” she told me.

by Anonymousreply 77July 27, 2018 10:01 PM

In 1992, a former child star who asked to be identified only by her first name, Kimberly, was introduced to Moonves by a friend, who was a member of Moonves’s staff and told her that Moonves could help her get back into television. At a dinner meeting that the three attended, Moonves began by asking questions about Kimberly’s acting career. But when the friend went to the bathroom Moonves turned to Kimberly and said, in a perfunctory way, “Let’s go. Let’s just get a hotel room. Let’s just do this.” She was shocked. “I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ ” When she explained that she had a husband and a child, Moonves became angry and left. (The friend recalled making the introduction to Moonves, and said that her only motivation in doing so was to help Kimberly’s career. CBS said that Moonves has no memory or record of the meeting.)

“The power differential was so great,” Kimberly told me. “I was really scared, because I thought I was burning some sort of a bridge that was going to be great for me.” As a child star, she said, “I’d been taught that powerful people can hurt you, they can ruin you, they can ruin your career.” She said that the turn from business meeting to sexual overture seemed to be well practiced. “It was set up to be that way,” she said. “I thought, Wow, is this the way the world works and I just don’t get it?”

by Anonymousreply 81July 27, 2018 10:07 PM

Gotta be Sharon, since Tyne was in Judging Amy on CBS.

by Anonymousreply 82July 27, 2018 10:09 PM

Nobody wanted to fuck Tyne Daly. Had to be Sharon Gless.

by Anonymousreply 83July 27, 2018 10:09 PM

I thought maybe Gless, but she was in a relationship with a producer (later her husband) and, well, I can't imagine anyone really wanting to fuck Tyne Daly. Though the voice sounds a bit like them!

The way it was phrased was "police officer on a long-running show" so I was thinking maybe it wasn't a cop show like C&L. Trying to brainstorm what would have been on the the late 80s.

R82 The timeline is late 80s, so it would have been during C&L.

by Anonymousreply 84July 27, 2018 10:10 PM

Angie Dickinson hosted SNL in the 80s when C&L was on; she played Pepper Anderson in a sketch with Nora Dunn's Mary Beth Lacey; Pepper showed MB how to seduce a crime lord to get the goods on him.

Hilarious.

I do think Les is much less hideous than Harvey and if you have to sleep with someone for a part would be an easier lay. but with Harvey you got a movie career.

by Anonymousreply 88July 27, 2018 10:16 PM

R88 Didn't her career dry up when she hooked up with Scorsese (after getting her face bitten off by De Niro in Cape Fear) and she suddenly decided she was too good for indie movies?

by Anonymousreply 89July 27, 2018 10:18 PM

R88 the last thing I remember her in was Grace of My Heart. Did she decide she didn’t want indie movies? That’s too bad she could have had a nice Parker Posey career

by Anonymousreply 90July 27, 2018 10:21 PM

R90 I'm not sure anyone would want Parker Posey's career. At least not in regard to her financial status. She recently did an interview in which she said, until the Lost in Space gig came about last year, she was in serious danger of losing her home.

by Anonymousreply 91July 27, 2018 10:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 104July 27, 2018 11:17 PM

I thought Heather Locklear for the police show actress (TJ Hooker). Do the dates match up? It has to be show that was cancelled in 95.

For "Kimberly" chi;d actress - that should be easy to figure out.

R96 Action. In one episode he sells her to stand-ins for the Weinstein Brothers.

by Anonymousreply 106July 27, 2018 11:18 PM

R105 TJ Hooker was on ABC. The story specified that the show was a CBS show.

Not sure where you're getting that the show needed to be cancelled in 1995.

by Anonymousreply 107July 27, 2018 11:29 PM

Reading the article now. This is some rock-solid stuff right there. If nothing happens to Les, I'm going to scream until my lungs collapse.

Also, Julie Chen is dead to me.

by Anonymousreply 108July 27, 2018 11:29 PM

That's the one r106. It was ahead of its time. There was a bald gay producer who was supposed to be Barry Diller.

by Anonymousreply 109July 27, 2018 11:32 PM

R107, the 1995 date is from this:

[quote] In 1995, when Moonves became president of CBS Entertainment, the actress called to congratulate him. “He said, ‘You should have fucked me when I asked you to,’ and I said, ‘No shit!’ ” the actress told me. They laughed..... Soon afterward, CBS Business Affairs informed the actress that her series deal with CBS was being terminated.

by Anonymousreply 110July 27, 2018 11:32 PM

"T.J. Hooker" was on CBS its last season.

by Anonymousreply 111July 27, 2018 11:34 PM

I don't give a shit whether this is coming out because of the merger. Had he behaved like a decent human being back then, he wouldn't be haunted by this stuff now.

by Anonymousreply 112July 27, 2018 11:34 PM

R105 Perhaps Kim Richards of RHOBH for the “Kimberly” child actress? Has Andrew Cohen made a statement yet regarding the allegations? He and Julie Chen are tight and go way back. They were both interns at CBS This Morning. My prediction is Julie divorces Les if it gets really bad. She won’t sacrifice her career for him. CBS won’t fire her from The Talk or Big Brother. She’s too closely associated with both shows especially Big Brother and could claim ignorance of his behavior. Based on the article all of the assaults took place at his office.

by Anonymousreply 113July 27, 2018 11:35 PM

Yes it has to be Sharon Gless, that sounds like her humor and to be honest, I have always been as gay as a Christmas Tree full of Christopher Radko ornaments and back then even I would have wanted to have sex with Sharon Gless.

by Anonymousreply 114July 27, 2018 11:37 PM

[quote] She won’t sacrifice her career for him.

Oh, the irony of that statement.

by Anonymousreply 115July 27, 2018 11:37 PM

Are all the accusations from 20+ years ago? It was a very different time back then with a very different corporate culture. I wouldn't be suprised if all men in power were sex pests back in the 80s and 90s.

Looking back 20+ years through the lens of today just isn't helpful.

by Anonymousreply 116July 27, 2018 11:38 PM

r116 Who cares if it was five, fifteen, or fifty years ago? The shock and the trauma these women experienced in the moment of harassment was the same. But sure, let's treat their stories differently because the men in power back then didn't yet know how to behave, the little kids that they are.

by Anonymousreply 117July 27, 2018 11:43 PM

No, there are more recent accusations, this isn't just in the 80s and 90s. Some are even after his marriage to Chen.

by Anonymousreply 118July 27, 2018 11:43 PM

I’m shocked! (He used to sleep with Roma Downey, who is not an Uber Christian)

by Anonymousreply 120July 27, 2018 11:48 PM

[R70] you are full of it. Kevin Spacey had professional repercussions. He was replaced in All The Money in the World after production was finished and to great fanfare, and fired from House of Cards, and lost other deals.

by Anonymousreply 121July 27, 2018 11:50 PM

Thanks, r118. The excepts posted above weren't from recent examples.

R117, women weren't the delicate flowers you seem to think they were nor could they be in the workplace during those decades. And, r117, it may suprise you, but people evolve. It's not about revenge and retribution or is it for you?

by Anonymousreply 122July 27, 2018 11:52 PM

Gless had a mystery/PI series in development at CBS in the mid-90s. It wasn't jokingly referred to as Whatever Happened to Nancy Drew until they settled on a title. When Moonves took over, he immediately killed it, saying CBS wanted to go after a younger demo.

by Anonymousreply 123July 27, 2018 11:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 124July 27, 2018 11:53 PM

Excepts = excerpts.

by Anonymousreply 125July 27, 2018 11:54 PM

R110 A series deal isn't the same as a series.

The series she was on was in its heyday in the late 80s. Her series deal was probably a development thing.

R123 You could be right, it could be Gless. I just thought that Gless and Daly wouldn't have necessarily been on Moonves' radar sexually. But it could be.

by Anonymousreply 126July 27, 2018 11:54 PM

Yep, it's Gless. Look at this article from May regarding Cagney and Lacey, using similar language about liking them younger:

[quote] The films did extremely well in the ratings, but the head of CBS, Les Moonves (who came in after the films had been green lit) decided not to go with any additional installments. "He admitted that he never really liked Cagney & Lacey," she says. "He didn't help us do anything to promote them, but they still got high numbers. All four of them. So he sort of killed the franchise. He liked them younger."

He ruined these women’s careers for not sleeping with him. It’s one thing to hit on someone, but to screw up their entire livelihood? Just hire a hooker creep.

by Anonymousreply 128July 28, 2018 12:09 AM

It's actually funny that CBS wanted a younger demo when hey have always been known as having the oldest viewers.

by Anonymousreply 129July 28, 2018 12:11 AM

So Julie Chen is standing by her man? That means she's calling Illeana Douglas and others liars. How will Sara Gilbert react? Will the other cohosts support her after they ALL went after the other sexpests on air?

The Monday episode of The Talk will be SUPER AWKWARD. Can't wait.

by Anonymousreply 130July 28, 2018 12:16 AM

Ronan Farrow is a pretty amazing investigator and writer. Also, he must have an ease about him to get these women to spill these bad memories.

by Anonymousreply 133July 28, 2018 12:54 AM

I’ve always had the hots for Les. He’s a very handsome man.

by Anonymousreply 134July 28, 2018 1:00 AM

Is Ronan going to expose his mother's abuse of her adopted kids and how she favoured the white ones or no?

by Anonymousreply 135July 28, 2018 1:02 AM

R133 I'm not sure about his investigative skills. I think a lot of his scoops are coming from people leaking stuff to him in the hopes Ronan will be able take out their enemies. I'm not buying the story that Shari Redstone didn't play a part in this Moonves story. If Moonves had not blocked the CBS/Viacom merger and played nice with Redstone, I don't think this story would have ever been published. Much like the Harvey Weinstein story only broke because his brother leaked Harvey's personnel file because he wanted to oust Harvey from the Weinstein Company.

by Anonymousreply 136July 28, 2018 1:07 AM

by Anonymousreply 139July 28, 2018 1:18 AM

It helps that little Ronan is a homosexual who can relate to abused women.

by Anonymousreply 155July 28, 2018 2:59 AM

Julie Chen is a bitch. Years ago on The Talk, the hosts were all talking about pie and a PA came out to serve them pie. The PA then serves Julie's slice before she's finished speaking and Julie slams her hand on the table to prevent her from setting the slice down and then glares at the camera. Later on or in the next episode, Julie brings out the PA to apologize but you know that it's just to save face.

by Anonymousreply 233July 28, 2018 7:40 PM

How has this thread turned into shaming/bashing Julie Chen? Why aren’t we focusing on Les Moonves?

Ok, she defended her husband of 14 years who she shares a child. I can’t fault her for supporting him until this plays out a little further. In fact, two top female CBS executives have written letters in support of Les as well. Perhaps she’s waiting for the investigation by CBS to be completed before making any moves/decisions? We don’t know what she knew or when she knew it. We will never know.

Based on the article Les sounds like a deplorable human being and I hope CBS shows him the door.

That being said, give Julie a minute to figure things out. She’s got a child, a marriage and a career on the line. Stop shaming the spouse and focus your indignation where we it belongs, squarely on Les, the perpetrator.

by Anonymousreply 234July 28, 2018 8:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 240July 28, 2018 8:23 PM

R238 Nope I’m not Julie. I just think it’s ridiculous that somehow Julie has become just has guilty as Les. Julie wasn’t even mentioned in the article. I’ll reserve further judgement on her actions or lack thereof until this all plays out. I’m actually curious as to whether she will show her face on The Talk Monday.

I would imagine Les is trying to hammer out some sort of severance with CBS over the weekend. I read that if he’s fired “with cause” that he stands to lose out on a $182M severance package.

by Anonymousreply 241July 28, 2018 8:57 PM

$182 million! Jesus maria! That's quite the parachute.

by Anonymousreply 242July 28, 2018 9:01 PM

R241 Really? Like it’s ridiculous that we all believe Georgina Chapman knew her husband is a rapist because EVERYONE IN HOLLYWOOD knew her husband is a rapist? The poor, innocent, gorgeous dear who married an old, obese, violent man had nooooooo idea that approximately 10,000 people all looked the other way as her husband assaulted woman after woman.

Now, Julie Chen unlike Chapman is a precious naif who married for love, not for money or a career on the network her husband runs...

by Anonymousreply 243July 28, 2018 9:01 PM

R156, so funny… that's the first thing that popped into my mind too! They were talking about Patti LaBelle's sweet potato pie. Julie Chen seems like such a b*tch!

by Anonymousreply 244July 28, 2018 9:02 PM

R241, she knew what the fuck was going on and said nothing. She was there for the job and money and the rest of it. and she was she on the talk talking about all the other guys guilty of the same thing as her husband? I don't watch her shit show so I don't know but I wonder if any of her comments are gonna come back to haunt her. fuck this ugly cunt. they can both fuck off tv.

by Anonymousreply 245July 28, 2018 9:03 PM

I am personally offended that Julie married her rapist boss.

Join us this winter for a special edition Big Brother Celebrity Predators. 8 accused sex offenders will compete in the BB house against their former and/or current mates. Hosted by Ronan Farrow. Expect the unexpected!

by Anonymousreply 247July 28, 2018 9:19 PM

R247 Will Ronan turn out to be the one doing the bad touches in the dark?

by Anonymousreply 248July 28, 2018 9:21 PM

R241, I agree with you on Julie Chen.

But CBS is doing an investigation and I'd be willing to bet that Moonves is willing to roll the dice on the outcome. It seems like a she said/he said situation and, if anything, we've seen a turn in sentiment with Chris Harwick being able to show that a lot of what his "she said" wasn't true.

by Anonymousreply 249July 28, 2018 9:21 PM

Come on, Chenbot defender(s)--we've flung enough crap at her over the years, how can you expect we won't make fun of her and assume she knew something when her husband is all over the news?

Please...

by Anonymousreply 250July 28, 2018 9:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 252July 28, 2018 10:00 PM

It’s very possible these women knew their husbands were cheating and using the casting couch but had no idea they were assaulting women. I’m sure there are many producers in Hollywood who hit on women, with a wink wink agreement to help their careers but don’t assault them physically or harm them if they say no.

by Anonymousreply 253July 28, 2018 10:05 PM

“Les, hon, I’ll be in New York next week. Please habe Maria clean up after the rapes before I get back, OK?”

by Anonymousreply 257July 28, 2018 10:13 PM

This isn't like the Chris Hardwick situation. If I recall correctly, in that case, it was one woman making the claims. In this case, a journalist has done a thorough job of reporting and checking out sources. And a lot more money is on the line.

by Anonymousreply 258July 28, 2018 10:30 PM

What? PR all Stars has been cancelled? They already had another season in the can.

by Anonymousreply 259July 28, 2018 10:51 PM

This is nothing like the Chris Hardwick situation, which was a blog post written by an ex girlfriend. This was a sourced and months long researched article in the New Yorker written by a (whether you like it or not) well respected Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter who is essentially the public’s authority on the #metoo movement.

Les Moonves is FINISHED, right along with his little concubine. CBS board will announce his removal within the week. There is no recovery for him in this situation.

Wow. They had to dredge up Wonder Woman.

by Anonymousreply 271July 29, 2018 12:35 AM

There are more woman and witnesses. Not only did Les cover up the abuse that was happening by other men at CBS, he abused women directly. He created the system where men could abuse woman at work, at CBS.

BTW, there have been reports of this for decades. Les was able to block NYT with threats for decades. Ronan went to the New Yorker to publish. Les has a lot of enemies, and they know Ronan's reporting is factual. Julie Chen is well hated too.

by Anonymousreply 273July 29, 2018 1:16 AM

Switch out "honorable" for "moral" in Lynda's tweet and you end up with Julie's tweet.

by Anonymousreply 274July 29, 2018 1:20 AM

When Carter spoke with The Daily Beast about the sexual harassment she endured she was asked about the Bill Cosby case and accusations against Trump.

“And,” she said emphatically, “I believe every woman in the Bill Cosby case.”

And President Trump’s accusers?

“I believe them, too,” Carter told me. “Why would they lie? I believe the women.”

But if she believes Moonves, then she can't believe the women. Or she questions the women's versions of the truth.

by Anonymousreply 275July 29, 2018 1:21 AM

by Anonymousreply 284July 29, 2018 2:13 AM

TIred of the idiots who think Julie Chen can survive this if her hubby is removed. The Talk and Big Brother are at CBS Studio City. She can’t walk its halls where every trace of him, down to the photos on the walls, have been removed. I’m sure BB producer Alison Grodner is coming up with a replacement right now. It will be fun to see if the houseguests on BB will be told the truth about her sudden absence.

by Anonymousreply 285July 29, 2018 3:40 AM

They're aren't going to just remove Julie mid-season. I'm sure she's contractually obliged to host the entire season.

by Anonymousreply 286July 29, 2018 3:42 AM

Julie can always just marry the next CBS president. No big deal, movin’ on up.

by Anonymousreply 287July 29, 2018 3:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 295July 29, 2018 5:23 AM

R287 Oh she will. Her interest in Les is only in his power as CEO. Once he loses that power by being fired or resigning, she'll dump him and move on to some other power player in the media.

by Anonymousreply 296July 29, 2018 5:25 AM

HA! You guys talk about Julie Chen as if she's this hot thing who men lust after.

by Anonymousreply 297July 29, 2018 5:27 AM

Letterman already was outed prior to #metoo for cheating on his wife (then girlfriend) with interns and staff. I guess non of it was unwanted attention since the women probably would have come out with it during this whole movement.

by Anonymousreply 298July 29, 2018 5:32 AM

Let's figure out Kimberly- Kim from Real Housewives does seem like a possibility!

by Anonymousreply 312July 29, 2018 2:20 PM

R305, yes she does. She was prominent actress at the time, played a police officer in very popular CBS show in late 80's. Her series development was canceled in 1995 and she hasn't worked for CBS since. She was hot when younger and age 40 in 1995, the age when an actress becomes "too old" in Moonves' words. Plus she is now out of show business and wishes to remain private.

by Anonymousreply 313July 29, 2018 2:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 332July 30, 2018 1:50 AM

by Anonymousreply 368July 30, 2018 6:26 PM

R367 She'll probably be fired because Moonves replacement will want to put his/her own picks in executive positions. This is why she's singing a different tune than when she called for the expulsion of Harvey from the Academy. She's just trying to save her job.

by Anonymousreply 369July 30, 2018 6:28 PM

If she's an ounce of sense, she's already consulted a divorce attorney just for the 411 she needs if it comes to that. Even if he's criminally innocent, maybe she could dodge civil liability by dumping him sooner than later.

There’s no “temporarily” about it. He’s toast and heading out the door PERMANENTLY swiftly followed by his wife.

Why the hate for Julie? What did she ever do?

by Anonymousreply 374July 30, 2018 6:34 PM

Some of it's just schadenfreude, R374. For me, the rest is fatigue of her appearing everywhere and her holding herself as an arbiter of morality on The Talk and Big Brother.

by Anonymousreply 375July 30, 2018 6:36 PM

She’s a mediocrity and has never deserved her jobs on The Talk and Big Brother. She only got them because she was married to and getting pumped full of jizz by the boss.

by Anonymousreply 404July 31, 2018 12:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 405July 31, 2018 12:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 407July 31, 2018 12:52 AM

R404 I agree that the stock hasn't really met the definition of "tanked," but the price before the news hit on Friday was around $57.80. I think you have to take both Friday's and Monday's drops into consideration. And if it's at $51 and change, then the decline is more like 11%.

I always liked Colbert, and his style of delivery and sophisticated humor was similar to Letterman, who I also enjoyed. But his monologues when he attacks Trump are so shrill and unlike his past relaxed sardonic style. He has the brain to really go for the jugular and I can't figure out why he doesn't. It's the perfect target for someone like him, and he's missing it consistently

by Anonymousreply 443August 1, 2018 1:52 AM

Colbert will never mention it again, ever. He'll immediately go back to shouting about Trump like he's about pop a vessel.

by Anonymousreply 444August 1, 2018 1:58 AM

I wonder how Chen's reputation in the industry is?

When they did that big send off for Barbara Walters a few years back, practically every current big female name on the big three networks past and present was there to help send her off, but noticeably missing was Julie Chen.

One of The Talk's first big gets was Oprah. But Winfrey did it on the condition that she would only be interviewed by Holly Robinson Peete. In the interview she praised Holly to the hilt reducing Holly to tears. This supposedly made Chen LIVID and it was a big reason why Holly got fired.

Is she viewed as serious competition, or someone who just fucked her way to the top?

The five women included in Ronan's New Yorker article reported incidents that occurred in the 1990s and early 2000s. The woman whose claims the LA DA said he couldn't prosecute was a sixth woman reporting incidents in the 1980s. She went directly to law enforcement and never talked to Ronan.

by Anonymousreply 465August 29, 2018 5:39 AM

Interesting post on DL Big Brother thread about 10 years ago:

Les Moonves cheats on Julie.

When Viacom tried to sue Howard Stern after he got to Sirius a few years ago, things got nasty. He said that he would retaliate against Moonves by 'telling what he knows about what Les was up to in New York'.

Viacom hurridly dropped the lawsuit, and even gave Howard his library of years and years of tapes of old shows. In turn, Howard isn't allowed to even say the name 'Moonves' on his Sirius channels for a few years.

Julie should get a blood test now and then. There are some good pictures of her out there on the celebrity plastic surgery websites. She had a nose job years ago that totally changed her whole look.

But that strapless black dress she wore tonight was way too tight. It was not the type of dress that one sits down in for an upper-body close up on television.

I can't believe he still has a job. Either their are dozens of cases to investigate or CBS hopes this will quietly go away. I don't understand why they are protecting him when they canned Charlie Rose almost immediately.

by Anonymousreply 466August 29, 2018 5:41 AM

Golden-Gottlieb worked with Moonves at the television production company Lorimar-Telepictures in the nineteen-eighties. She was already an industry veteran who had held senior positions at NBC, MGM, and Disney. Golden-Gottlieb, who is now in her early eighties and retired, told me that the first incident in which Moonves assaulted her occurred in 1986, when he was in charge of movies and miniseries at Lorimar and she was the head of comedy development there. Moonves, she recalled, came into her office in the middle of a workday and suggested the two of them go out for lunch. Instead of taking her to a nearby restaurant, she said, Moonves drove her to a secluded area. When Golden-Gottlieb began to ask if he was having trouble finding a parking space, she said that Moonves “grabbed my head and he took it all the way down onto his penis, and pushed his penis into my mouth.” She said he held her head in place forcibly. “He came very quickly,” she recalled. “You sort of just go numb. You don’t know what to do.” Distraught, Golden-Gottlieb demanded that Moonves take her back to the office. When she got there, she said, she vomited. “It was just sick,” she told me. She didn’t report the incident at the time because she was a single mother supporting two children and feared for her career. “I realized he was the new golden boy,” she told me. “I just kept quiet.” But the incident, she said, “never left me.”

by Anonymousreply 510September 10, 2018 5:31 AM

Golden-Gottlieb continued to work with Moonves, who was later promoted to more senior positions within Lorimar. She said that she had avoided being alone with Moonves whenever possible in the period after the first assault. In early 1988, she told me, she entered Moonves’s office to discuss a work matter, and he said that he was going to get a glass of wine. He left briefly and, when he returned, she said, he was not wearing pants, and was aroused. She turned away, embarrassed, and ran out of the room. The following day, Moonves approached her in her office and berated her for not sending a memo to another executive. When she told Moonves that she didn’t typically share her memos with that executive, he became enraged, she recalled. “He reaches over and pulls me up and throws me, I mean hard, against the wall,” she told me. Afterward, she said, she collapsed and “couldn’t get up.” She recalled “lying on the floor, just crying.”

by Anonymousreply 511September 10, 2018 5:35 AM

After she rebuffed Moonves, Golden-Gottlieb said that Moonves retaliated against her professionally, moving her into ever smaller offices. “Every two days, he’d find a darker space, or a place downstairs, or something,” she recalled. She told me that her career in the entertainment industry suffered, which she attributed to his influence at Lorimar and, later, CBS. “He absolutely ruined my career,” she said. “He was the head of CBS. No one was going to take me.”

R269 R350 Sharon Osborne has now removed that tweet from her feed. LOL!

by Anonymousreply 513September 10, 2018 7:05 AM

it's too bad for the people who stood by Les and didn't know all the details.

if any women are fired for standing by Les then they can claim they were fired for being women.

this is unending.

by Anonymousreply 514September 10, 2018 7:16 AM

Based on what's at R512, this is why when people say oh it was twenty years ago, let's deal with the now, it effects the now. His career went on while he sabotaged the careers of others who are still living with the consequences. Earlier in thread there were some comments about 20 years ago being a different time, it wasn't. It was never a different time for victims on the receiving end of harassment and assault. The behavior was always unacceptable, just now people of the receiving end stand a better chance of being heard. That's probably why it seems like there are so many stories, and accusations.

by Anonymousreply 515September 10, 2018 8:40 AM

20 years ago was 1998 and forcing somebody's head down into your lap was definitely not acceptable then

by Anonymousreply 516September 10, 2018 8:43 AM

DId Jules give him a blowjob last night????

by Anonymousreply 517September 10, 2018 10:37 AM

R517 I imagine it went something like this, “Julie, Honey, I’m sorry that you have to go through all of this because of me. It’s not fair. But listen, it’s gonna be hard for me to discreetly get a whore for a while, and I obviously can’t facerape any of the slut executives now that I’ve left CBS, so would you mind? Daddy has gotten a little worked up what with all the excitement...”

by Anonymousreply 518September 10, 2018 11:30 AM

Golden-Gottlieb was on Good Morning America today talking about it

by Anonymousreply 519September 10, 2018 11:53 AM

Why do I think r518's imagined scenario is scarily close to reality?

by Anonymousreply 520September 10, 2018 12:11 PM

Will Julie address this on The Talk today, or just ignore it?

by Anonymousreply 521September 10, 2018 12:20 PM

[quote]And no payout!

No payout now. I have no doubt he'll get his millions quietly, after this fades from the spotlight.

by Anonymousreply 522September 10, 2018 12:22 PM

R521 I hope The View is petty and throws shade towards The Talk and Julie today.

by Anonymousreply 523September 10, 2018 12:30 PM

Not happening R522. You think Shari Redstone or CBS will willingly give him money? Lol. Nope. He won’t see a penny of severance. What he is going to see is hundreds of millions in civil lawsuits coming right his way.

by Anonymousreply 524September 10, 2018 1:48 PM

The Squawk.

She’s out of there. Did any of you really think she’d stick around?

by Anonymousreply 526September 10, 2018 6:45 PM

[quote]Not happening [R522]. You think Shari Redstone or CBS will willingly give him money? Lol. Nope.

HuffPo: In a public filing on Monday, the company said Moonves would stay on for one year to “perform transition advisory services.”

You think he's going to "advise" for free? Also under the agreement, he gets office services and security support from CBS for two years.

R523, The View threw the worst shade possible -- they didn't talk about it at all. (Unless I missed it.)

by Anonymousreply 528September 10, 2018 7:33 PM

In other news Dr. Phil was their guest today and all but called Robert Wagner a murderer.

by Anonymousreply 529September 10, 2018 7:34 PM

So Jules didn’t have the balls to show up for her job but when this happened to Roger Ales and Charlie Rose, she was all over the story. What a backstabbing pussy!

by Anonymousreply 530September 10, 2018 10:53 PM

Julie announced today she was taking a few days off from The Talk to be with her family but she would appear Thursday on Big Brother.

by Anonymousreply 531September 11, 2018 2:04 AM

[quote]r516 20 years ago was 1998 and forcing somebody's head down into your lap was definitely not acceptable then

Hauling someone from their chair, slamming them against a wall and leaving them huddled on the floor, crying, would probably also be deemed professionally ... iffy.

I wonder how Julie Chen would react to that.

by Anonymousreply 532September 11, 2018 2:26 AM

Chen won’t be returning to The Talk or BB.

by Anonymousreply 533September 11, 2018 3:16 AM

She will NOT be returning to Big Brother. Jesus, use some common sense, people.

by Anonymousreply 534September 11, 2018 9:26 AM

Did Jules give Les a blowie this morn????

by Anonymousreply 535September 11, 2018 9:36 AM

Les and Julie have the most slappable faces

by Anonymousreply 536September 11, 2018 9:48 AM

ronan that turdy queen still at it...

u know that billionaire moonves is gonna git even...

MIA WILL NEVER WORK IN THIS TOWN AGAIN

by Anonymousreply 537September 11, 2018 12:50 PM

Does Ronan have "Professional Snitch" on his business card? Or just "Shit Stirrer"? Why does he care about this shit so much anyway? It's not even remotely tied in to the Woody/Soon-Yi mess since that wasn't a professional workplace thing.

by Anonymousreply 538September 11, 2018 7:12 PM

There's an alien character in Marvel Comics called Ronan the Accuser. Coinkidink?

by Anonymousreply 539September 11, 2018 8:02 PM

Who "asked" Sharon Osbourne to initially tweet in support of Les back in July? (She's now removed that tweet.)

The way she revealed that during her segment on The Talk made it sound like she'd been coerced into doing something that she really didn't want to do.

by Anonymousreply 540September 11, 2018 8:13 PM

Per the NY Times, it's unlikely that Moonves will see a dime of severance, no matter what CBS's investigations turn up. Why? He lied repeatedly to CBS's Board of Directors.

How long does Chen's contract run on THE TALK. I'd think it will be very awkward over there.

The molested elephant in the room will accompany her.

by Anonymousreply 542September 13, 2018 1:58 AM

how long before Julie leaves him and how much $$$$ will she git

by Anonymousreply 543September 13, 2018 7:05 AM

Isn't their official residence their Bel Air mansion, despite their Malibu home and UES townhouse?

CA is a community property state. Do they have a binding pre-nup?

by Anonymousreply 544September 13, 2018 8:08 AM

They all expressed their support for the Chenbot but not so much for Moonves. How does this show carry on with her sitting there with the elephant in the room?

by Anonymousreply 545September 13, 2018 8:15 AM

Will he get enough severance for white the next marriage?

by Anonymousreply 546September 13, 2018 9:31 AM

Bump.

by Anonymousreply 547September 13, 2018 12:57 PM

I feel bad for Charlie.

by Anonymousreply 548September 13, 2018 10:04 PM

R544 Back in 2011, Chen told Howard Stern that she signed a pre-nup, "a very generous one."

TMZ says Moonves wasn't invited to the Emmys. HAHA!

by Anonymousreply 550September 17, 2018 10:36 AM

It's been confirmed. Julie Chen is OUT at The Talk! They've got her up the ass and pussy now!

by Anonymousreply 551September 18, 2018 5:49 PM

New stories on the early morning shows that Moonves tried to silence another accuser. Finish him off already!

by Anonymousreply 552November 29, 2018 11:18 AM

Should make for a very awkward 3 weeks on Celeb BB. Too bad Grodner didn't stack the cast with his accusers.
