I think it's interesting that so many of the hot older European women linked to in this thread have long hair - whereas the overriding conventional wisdom among American women is that when you get older, you HAVE to cut your hair or you look ridiculous. Maybe the trick is to leave your hair long if you like it that way and to dress in a mature and elegant fashion as opposed to wearing your hair long and shopping at Hollister.
