RE: Conservapaedia

Loved this comment from their anti-McDonald's petition (who the hell would've predicted I'd be on McDonald's side in ANYTHING????): "Because McDonald's had taken a stand to support the activist gay agenda that is destroying the core of family values in the U.S. we will take a stand to support McDonald's competitors such as In-n-Out and Chick fil-A." Yeah. Right. In-n-Out. The American Way.

RE: CNN reporting that Lance Armstrong is going to endorse McCain today....

Well, R54, I'm pretty sure if he publicly endorses McCain, there will be some shine lost off his reputation here.

I had no idea he was conservative or republican.

Now that I know, my respect for him has droopped to near zero, and I will no longer support anything he does.

I am probably not the only person in Austin who feels this way.

There is something really, really, very sad about you. You need help. You need somebody to help you. I know you feel insulted by that, but I'm being honest with you. This excessive concern with little weasels is a sickness.

RE: Conservapaedia

Consevapaedia was created as a counter to Wikipedia. Wikipedia isn't a liberal encyclopedia per se but as they say, facts have a liberal bias.

What are the readers of Conservapedia, the “conservative” answer to Wikipedia, most obsessed with? According to their stats page as of November 20, 2007 at 4:26 p.m. EST, the top 10 most viewed pages are:

1. Main Page [1,895,008] 2. Homosexuality [1,476,964] 3. Homosexuality and Hepatitis [516,039] 4. Homosexuality and Promiscuity [416,430] 5. Homosexuality and Parasites [387,291] 6. Homosexuality and Gonorrhea [327,815] 7. Homosexuality and Domestic Violence [319,852] 8. Gay Bowel Syndrome [306,436] 9. Homosexuality and Syphilis [261,799] 10. Homosexuality and Mental Health [243,930]

I think they were actually hit by bots which jacked up the page view count to produce these results but it was still very funny nevertheless.

RE: Obama will win it all

All that the Republicans have to do is to appeal to greed and to fear: the American people will do the rest.

We always like to think that we can turn things around. But we can't. I really think that our fate has been set in stone for the past forty years (since 1968).

Eugene O'Neill's Mary Tyrone said it all: "The past is the present, isn't it? It’s the future, too. We all try to lie out of that but life won’t let us."

RE: Debra Winger on "The View" 6/9/08

She was a good actress, and the type could play pretty or plain - like Olivia DeHaviland, whom she resembles as far as type: strong yet vulnerable, independent yet a homebody.

Always heard she was difficult but that's because she didn't suffer fools or low talented types or male chauvinistic behavior. A woman in the business, unfortunately, has to be tougher than the male because there is less respect accorded her.

OTOH, one thing that always drove me nuts about her on-screen is she NEVER visually played a character appropriately, as if "Debra Winger" had to be forefront of the character she was portraying: a good example being the bank teller in MIKE'S MURDER. She never once wore a bra, not even at work. Frankly, the woman wouldn't have had a job if she'd done that, it was/is considered inappropriate (lack of) attire.

Ottawa Woman Upset Because Her Ferret is Banned from Buses

In today's paper, the Ottawa Sun had the story of a woman who suffers from panic attacks that prevent her from getting out. However, she owns a ferret that she claims gives her the strength to ride the bus. She is upset because Ottawa Transit will no longer allow the ferret to ride the bus with her (They did for a period of time.) The picture was of her and her ferret at the bus stop. It wasn't in a cage, but in her arms. The woman claims the ferret is the same as a guide dog for the blind. However, it can't be trained to "officially" help her as there are no such services available. Therefore, the animal is not allowed on the bus.

OMG! Your nose is going to grow.

Don't ever get behind a male past the age of 60 cuz you'll be there until he counts out every single penny.

Btw, I'm a woman and I don't exhibit the behaviour described by the op, but now that I know it bothers the penised persons I will do my best to be as slooow as possible.

r116, that is my conclusion also. Which is why I have a collection of plates that are 11-12 inches in diameter. The standard 10 1/2 dinner plate is usually too small for a 2veg-1starch-1meat main course.

RE: Maureen Stapleton in "Interiors"

I absolutely love this film, as well as Another Woman and September. All three have a few clunky dialogue sections (especially September) but the lead actresses in all three (Page, Rowlands and Stritch)are very good to Brilliant. Actually, Stritch should have been nominated for her work in September, if nothing else for the Ouija Board scene.

RE: Birthday Gift Suggestions

I was going to suggest the gas gift card as well. If he's 16 he probably mostly cares about driving and with the price of gas a gift card would be a huge hit.

But you could also ask his parents what he would like or needs. Maybe they'd rather he earn his own gas money for driving.
