I thought she was in her mid 60s and retired in Florida somewhere.
I''m not sure if she was underrated or overrated.
She is underrated. Listen to her version of "Break It To Me Gently". The powerhouse vocals at the end show she''s very underrated.
she was hate-raped
She''s busy "playin'' with the queen of hearts."
She would have been a much bigger star (like Shania or Faith Hill) if she''d have come along about 15 years later then she did.
While I agree she had a great voice and knew how to use it, I''m struck by the comparison to Faith Hill and Shania Twain, both of whom benefited greatly from having movie star looks. Juice on her best day was rather unfortunate-looking. I doubt very much that she''d have been able to compete in the Nu-country market.

Big time Republican! Major donor to Bush-Cheney. Calls herself ''the singing mama grizzly bear''. Wants permanent tax cuts for the wealthy and wants to slash welfare benefits. Tells her audiences "you don''t hear so much from the liberals ever since undeniable evidence of Weapons of Mass Destruction was found in Iraq". Is advocating a hawkish, aggressive stance toward North Korea.
Mom Rock. No thanks.
Definitely a case of "video killed the radio star." Like R7 said.\
\
Same thing happened to Joe Jackson (indie/pop rock guy)
Contempt for zombies is a form of undead self-loathing.\
\
Stop the violence against yourself. Stop the violence against zombies.
I think she does the Branson circuit now.
Not a major talent, her voice wasn''t that distinctive or great, her tunes were all covers and not that interesting. Kim Carnes was better, put out better records.
\
Juice had / has a wonderful, powerful voice. Kim Carnes was a trainwreck.
Where does some of this stuff come from? Juice big time Republican?\
She has never expressed views of that nature on stage or off. She does not comment on politics in her shows, and she did definitely not donate to Bush/Cheney. She is not running for office, therefore, chooses to keep her politics personal. She is not a partisan performer in the least. \
\
Those comments don''t even sound remotely close to how Juice talks, let alone thinks. Apparently, Anonymous has this Grammy winning singer confused with someone else. Juice doesn''t comment on North Korea, or any of the political stances on stage. \
\
Juice is touring, but not the Branson Circuit. So have whatever opinion you want, of course, I just want to correct untruths. \
\
Juice''s management
I saw some special on vh1 one time where she spoke of having invested her money really well. \
\
She plays polo and owns a lot of polo ponies. \
\
When I was a child I thought some of her videos funny. Like the "Love''s Been A Little Bit Hard On Me" and "Playing With The Queen Of Hearts" were kinda funny for the era and I guess they had to be that way since she was homely. \
\
Does she still have all that fucking hair? She had the best hair.
I remember reading somewhere that she is financially very successful, and made most of her money through songwriting, where the real money is. I read this a few years ago. The poster had lived near Juice Newton, I believe at the time, Nashville.
A guy I know used to work A&R and said she was one of the most difficult acts he ever had to deal with. I won''t use the c-word but that''s how he described her. And he said this was years after her hit-making streak in the early 80s. I still like her music though.
She''s not a beauty, but she''s not THAT bad. I was expecting to see Elayne Boosler based on some of these posts. \

Interview from 2006 (age 54).
Juice is probably not up to much by 2011. Her longtime partner Otha passed away, only the man who held it all together for her and a fine musician in his own right.\
but anyone suggesting that juice would be outperformed by anyone today is just not listening. I love new artists, but juice sings any day, with anybody. One of the best set of pipes I have ever heard.\
she was a beautiful thing perfectly in her time, and has no need to move.\
as an "old lady" today I bet she could outperform 99%
Juice=Sominex
I''ve noticed she''s re-recorded all of her 80s hits and released them independently, I assume to get some kind of compensation that she''s not getting from her old record companies. Just an FYI if this thread is inspiring anyone to go buy some Juice.
Juice starts a tour in September. Come one, come all.\

It was thirty years ago when Juice had her biggest hits. "Angel of the Morning" peaked at No.4 for four weeks in the summer of 1981, while he biggest chart success "Queen of Hearts" followed, reaching No. 2 in the fall.
I loved her early albums before Angel Of The Morning hit. Well Kept Secret and Come To Me, I think there might have been at least more. I kind of lost interest after her hits because they sounded too much like everything else on the radio at the time.
Strange that a thread about Juice Newton should pop up...just a couple of days ago I listened to "Break It To Me Gently" on YouTube. For no reason at all I just thought of Juice Newton. I wasn''t a big fan of her, but I did like that song. %0D\

She had a good voice, but as it''s been noted she wasn''t much to look at. That video she did for "Queen of Hearts" is pretty stupid. Her version of that song is really lame; David Edmunds did a much better recording of it.
I actually saw her about two years ago when I went to visit a friend up in...gasp...Palmdale, California. We decided to get tickets at the last minute because there isn''t really a LOT to do up there and we thought it would be kind of a laugh. The venue she was playing at was, charitably, like a high school auditorium. When the band finally came out and started to perform, I have to say I was won over! She looked alright, was in good voice and was kind of chatty between songs. I felt bad that she had to flog her own CDS and photos after the show in the lobby.
Have a recently-recorded version of The Sweeetest Thing on my Ipod. Her voice is remarkable. Very powerful. Almost Broadway-like in her ability to belt. She''s obviously taken good care of herself over the past 30 years.
She was a bar singer who got lucky fucking someone on SNL.

Yippee! I hope some of you Chicago bitches will join me in Benton Harbor on December 1!%0D
