Very soft. Just got back from a month long trip to China and I couldn''t believe how hard their mattresses were. Sheesh. If I ever go back, I''m taking one of those mattress toppers in a suitcase just for that. I even tried bundling clothes under me to keep from bruising my ribs - it was like sleeping on solid rock.
Soft. My partners always insisted on extra firm mattresses. Now that I''m single, I bought a nice soft mattress and I get the best sleep ever.
firm
Firm support yet a soft pillow cushion on top, thermapedic shit doesnt work for me
Yes, HARD on the inside, soft on the outside!
Stiff
soft for me
Something soft and pillowy on top of something firm and supportive.
I know what you''re thinking
Overly soft mattresses make my back hurt. And that seems to be all they make now.%0D\

I had to search quite a while before I could find a good firm mattress the last time I bought one.
A hammock!
hard as a rock. I hate slumpy soft mattresses.
Agree with R5. Soft top that sinks to a firm, supportive surface.
I like my mattresses how I like my men---firm.
Hard mattress. Soft pillows. %0D\

Thank you.
Soft. I''m a swimmer and I have a good back. I''m thin, I need the cushioning to feel comfortable.\

Hard mattress is good for people with excess weight and bad core strength.
I tried a few mattresses at this store that comes highly recommended. The store has firm mattresses with toppers sewn in, but I don't like how soft they are. Plus, thick topper seems to defeat the purpose of a hard mattress.
So, what I'd like to do is to buy an extra firm mattress and then choose a topper that I like for a bit of softness. Does that make sense?

I like a hard man on a soft mattress. Or a warm pup tent, in a pinch.

My mattress is fucked up and full of lumps. I also will be shopping for a new firm mattress in the near future.
Only thing that works for me is soft/hard.
I use a big hard high quality futon and top with 3 inches of foam and an 8 inch down mattress.
If you want to sleep on your back, which kind of mattress should you use? and yes I'm doing it to prevent getting sleep wrinkles on my face lol
hard as a rock. I slept on the floor for years. Honest
I think if you sleep on your back or on your stomach, hard is better, R21. But if you sleep on your side forget about a hard mattress... your hips and your shoulders will hurt.
R19 overused is it.?;)

That's what I finally got -- a legitimate "sleeping futon" (which is heavy-duty and not made to be folded into a couch), then topped it with 3-inch memory foam.
