Mark Wahlberg - What ever happened to the poor guy who''s eyes he stabbed out?
Anybody else see last night''s 60-Minutes interview with "Marky Mark"? The reporter, Laura WhatsHerName giggled and grin throughout the entire thing while recounting to Wahlberg his multiple car thefts, stealing and robbing back in Boston. Even his local priest had an "aw shucks, he was such a little scamp" attitude while recounting how Wahlberg would smile and wave to him while driving by in stolen cars.\
He robbed a guy outside a store in Dorchester, a Boston ''burb and stabbed him with something and took the man''s eye out.\
Wonder what ever happened to that man and if the very high-brown ''actor'' and ''producer'' ever compensated him in any way.\
I had no idea he was such a violent little homophobe.
Did you mean "high-brow" dear?
Love the "new DL"
that''s "whose" eyes he scratched out, OP.\
Just fyi, not to make you feel bad.
Yep, got it R1 / R2. Thanks.
They also neglected to indicate that he was involved in race bias activities (if memory serves, the man he attacked was a person of color). Also noted that they described him as coming from a "scrappy" (or, something like that) neighborhood. If he were black, they would have called it the ghetto.
I NEVER understood his appeal, other than his thug body when he did that underwear thing. He has tiny slitty snake eyes and is an uneducated violent guy who somehow, some way found his way OUT of that environment. I don''t see the talent. He doesn''t seem like a particularly nice person, either. (okay, duh). I know he is now a role model for the criminals from his ''hood but, really now, how much is THAT worth? I am all for anyone rising up his surroundings and making a better life, of course, but this guy is a "star?" Why?
Here's the story.
Wahlberg claims to have been in trouble 20-25 times with the Boston Police Department as a youth. By the age of 13, Wahlberg had developed an addiction to cocaine and other substances. At 15, he harassed a group of African American school children on a field trip by throwing rocks (causing injuries) and shouting racial epithets. When he was 16, after robbing a pharmacy under the influence of PCP, Wahlberg knocked a middle-aged Vietnamese man unconscious, left another Vietnamese man permanently blind in one eye, and attacked a security guard (again using racist language). For these crimes, Wahlberg was charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty to assault, and was sentenced to two years in jail at Boston's Deer Island House of Correction, of which he served 45 days (6.16%). In another incident, the 21-year-old Wahlberg fractured the jaw of a neighbor in an unprovoked attack. Commenting in 2006 on his past crimes, Wahlberg has stated : "I did a lot of things that I regretted and I have certainly paid for my mistakes." He said the right thing to do would be to try to find the blinded man and make amends, and admitted he hasn't done so, but added that he was no longer burdened by guilt : "You have to go and ask for forgiveness and it wasn't until I really started doing good and doing right, by other people as well as myself, that I really started to feel that guilt go away. So I don't have a problem going to sleep at night. I feel good when I wake up in the morning."
After landing in prison following this assault, Wahlberg decided to change his ways. In his own words, "As soon as I began that life of crime, there was always a voice in my head telling me I was going to end up in jail. Three of my brothers had done time. My sister went to prison so many times I lost count. Finally I was there, locked up with the kind of guys I'd always wanted to be like. Now I'd earned my stripes and I was just like them and I realized it wasn't what I wanted at all. I'd ended up in the worst place I could possibly imagine and I never wanted to go back. First of all I had to learn to stay on the straight and narrow". Wahlberg first relied on the guidance of his parish priest to turn his back on crime. He told his street gang that he was leaving them and had "some serious fights" with them over it. The actor commented in 2009 : "I've made a lot of mistakes in my life and I've done bad things. But I never blamed my upbringing for that. I never behaved like a victim so that I would have a convenient reason for victimising others. Everything I did wrong was my own fault. I was taught the difference between right and wrong at an early age. I take full responsibility".
Having lived in Boston, I wouldn''t classify Dorchester as "ghetto" but it was and still is extremely working class and boarders on impoverished. It''s also still very dangerous despite it''s recent but slow transition to gentrification.\
And yeah, I love how the oh-so-hard-hitting 60-Minutes used words like "scrappy" to describe both Wahlberg and his former ''hood. He was extremely violent and committed multiple felonies; yet all is supposed to be forgiven and forgotten.\
The reporter also continued to giggle and batt her eyes as Wahlberg recounted how his buddies from "the dor" would visit him on the set of A Perfect Storm and would contemplate stealing the cameras and equipment after learning how much they were worth. Instead of admonishing them, Wahlberg stated he told them that the things would be hard to sell. "Ya can''t just go down to the corner store and sell Joe a $200,000 PaniVision camera" he said.. Cue another belly laugh.\
The guy is a total scum.
I was taught the difference between right and wrong at an early age. I take full responsibility".\
I''m sorry, are we supposed to feel sorry for him or excuse him now? I think that little line he uses is what''s given him a pass in Hollywood. "Oh look, he was just a troubled kid. He apologized, it''s okay."\
Apparently he was raised by white trash whores and drunks. I''m sure the blind/half blind man who lost his eye for a 6 pack considers his mea culpa appropriate. I mean, it''s only his eyesight, right?\
Mealwhile, Wahlberg lives in Beverly Hills with his fugly little offspring and his mobster-wife mate and speaks to reporters like he''s a grand master of the Hollywood game.
Quite possibly the least charismatic movie star of all time--I''ve never seen a lead performance as vacant as the one he gave in "The Italian Job,"
My favorite was when she asked him if he ever apologized and he said yes, at his trial.\
Well duh of course you did moron you didn''t want an extra five years tacked onto your sentence.
I love that he says he feels no guilt. If I had blinded a man, I would feel guilt every day of my life. What a sociopath.
I hope he gave the poor guys some cash after he found success. I fucking hate Lara Logan. She is a military whorah.
Agree R12. Something about her entirely affected and fake and just fucking annoying as shit.
I can''t believe he gets by with driving golf balls into his neighbors yards. Surely they complain about it. (I lived in a house with neighbors on a hill above me, and they broke my window with their damn golf balls.)
I always thought he looked like an ape. Why on earth would anyone cast him in a romantic role is beyond me.
I''m surprised that blinded man hasn''t hired an attorney.
R8, Whalberg''s wife is in the mob??
He said the right thing to do would be to try to find the blinded man and make amends, and admitted he hasn''t done so, but added that he was no longer burdened by guilt %0D\
This burns my ass. He makes millions of dollars and has done [italic]nothing[/italic] to make amends for his thuggish ways.%0D\
I take full responsibility%0D\
It''s his brother Donnie who has the talent in the family. Anyone watch Band of Brothers? Donnie was excellent in that.
Love him, hope he gets the Oscar this year.
That kind of evil doesn''t just go away.%0D\
He''s probably knocking his wife and kids around, and treating PAs and crew members badly.
R20 thought Richard "the nightstalker" Ramirez was real dreamy too. \
Seriously, if this was a black actor the whole interview would''ve been different. Hushed tones and the piece would''ve taken place IN A FUCKING JAIL!
And worst of all, he inflicted "Entourage" upon us.
By the looks of that 60 Minutes "interview" he sure does seem to have a great deal of control over his "image."%0D\
My gosh, did his handlers just tell that airhead who interviewed him what to say? Was she being fed her lines in an earpiece or what? %0D\
Why could he not have tried to make amends with the man he blinded on a one on one basis by now? That is the best way to go about that kind of thing as near as I can gather. %0D\
One thing, though. This little guy has a lot of ambition. He dropped out of school at the age of 13 like some kind of hillbilly. And he said in the interview that if he lead a different kind of life as a youth and went to University he would be running a studio now instead of just working for one. So he has transferred his street smarts towards a better good. And even though he is as fucked up as hell, he is not going anywhere any time soon.
That priest really creeped me out. His cutesy way of trying to avoid telling how much his church got from Wahlberg for the gym told me more about the priest than Wahlberg.%0D\
At least some of his neighbors now know where those golf balls are coming from...what an asshole thing to do.
He must be doing a lot right to have had a career that spans 17+ years in Hollywood. I''m actually more than a little envious.
His brother, Donnie, is the real talent and seems more likable.
Marky Mark sucks as an actor. Every time I see his name in serious movies I think it''s a joke. He really is just the same boring performance over and over. What the fuck did George Clooney see in him? At least that little infatuation is over.
Agree with R 21
"I have certainly paid for my mistakes"\
LOL!!! Marky Mark is a nasty deeply and carefully-closeted german homosexual who - if there is a God - will pay dearly for her crimes in this life but surely in the next.
Mrs Patrick Campbell
I saw an ''E'' True Hollywood Story on Marky Mark, and, really, he owes his career to Donnie. When he was in jail after stabbing the Vietnamese guy in the eye, Donnie said he had to fashion a career for his brother. He came up with the idea of having Mark front a group--and saved his brother''s life. Without that, Mark would probably be dead by now--or serving a life sentence!
A little piece of Bolivia went to Boston.%0D
Marky Mark... ops, I''m sorry, Mark Wahlberg also killed me with the "I go to church every day, no matter where I am" comment. I''m sure that excuses all of his bad behaviors as well.
Remember when he was promoting Planet of the Apes and said Helena Bonham-Carter was cute in her ape make-up. He then added, "She kind of looks like Janet Jackson."\
I''m shocked he so easily got away with that!
I wonder how he feels about Entourage being loaded up with gay actors now that we know the truth about Piven.
I thought it was a complete whitewash. The man was a violent, racist thug in his youth, but it all came off as a "boys will be boys" theme to his early life. I''m sure, when 60 Minutes called to set this up, this was one of the stipulations to his agreeing to do this. That said, I''ve never been a fan and his appeal has always escaped me.
I know his last name is German but he reeks of Irish Catholic white trash.
Mark Wahlberg is the most disappointing celebrity in a universe full of them. When I saw Boogie Nights, I thought I would love him forever. Whatever happened to that talent?
""reeks of Irish Catholic white trash.""" \
Please don''t insult Irish Catholics.\
Miss Mark is a german white trash homosexual.
And didn''t Miss Marky Mark take it up the pooper from (supposedly well hung) Calvin Klein eons ago??!! Hmmmmmm?
His success is quite the mystery. If he''s transferring his "street smarts" to Hollywood, he probably has some dirt on some of the powermakers. He has the charisma/personality of a plank of wood.
He''s not a good actor. His much lauded performance in Boogie Nights sucked too. His "regular acting" was just a slightly less loud, more muted version of his "Bad Acting in the Porno Clips" How that is is genius, I''ll never know.
German Catholic, we don''t want him.
I actually really liked him in The Departed, but I''m not sure how much he''s different from the character he played.
Wahlberg was charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty to assault, and was sentenced to two years in jail at Boston''s Deer Island House of Correction, of which he served 45 days\
45 days and this creep has the nerve to say "I have certainly paid for my mistakes".
Does he have an alibi for the night of the Chassen murder?
He ruined the remake of Planet of the Apes and single handedly killed a possible new franchise for the series with his total anti-charisma. But I had NO IDEA he was such an evil little prick in his younger years.
I grew up in Dorchester. That priest had a reputation for only trying to help cute white boys. He paid no attention to blacks or girls.
Savin Hill Lesbo
How tall is Miss Marky? We suspect she is ''tres petite''.\
Also, she is a classic ''tinymeat''.
First of all, it was an eye, not eyes. And there was no indication that he "stabbed" the guy. Sound as if he hit him with something. And Wahlberg seemed genuinely regretful and sorry. Just wanted to cool down the hysterics from OP.\
That said, that was an embarrassingly fawning interview. That chick had goo-goo eyes for him throughout. Sheesh, if this is the future of 60 Minutes then it''s time to say bye-bye.
He''s on our "to Gang Rape" list.
thousands of Viagra-filled sexy thugs
He ruined the remake of Planet of the Apes\
He and the guy who played the psycho ape were the best things about it!
I actually really liked him in The Departed, but I''m not sure how much he''s different from the character he played.\
Marty can make any actor look good.
Only thing I ever admired him for was the scene in Boogie Nights where his mom (Joanna Gleason) tears his bedroom apart and he starts shrieking and crying like a little baby. I thought that was pretty brave and raw and was surprised he let himself go to that place.%0D\
The rest of his "career" has left me totally cold and I feel that hardworking actors everywhere are slapped in the face when this criminal takes work away from them.
what ruined The Planet of the Apes remake was its incomprehensibility.
He did the crime and he did the time. He rose out of poverty and what seemed to be a life of crime, and made a success of himself. Why doesn''t he get a break?
He turned down a chance to be in "New Kids on the Block" because he preferred running wild and being a punk. %0D\
- Back in 1988 Wahlberg approached Thanh Lam, a Vietnamese man, calling him %E2%80%9CVietnam fucking shit.%E2%80%9D He then proceeded to hit Lam over the head with a large wooden stick. Thanh Lam was knocked to the ground unconscious.%0D\
- Later that same day, Hoa Trinh, another Vietnamese male, was punched in the eye by Wahlberg. He later lost the eye.%0D\
- After Walhberg was arrested, he made numerous unsolicited racial statements about %E2%80%9Cgooks%E2%80%9D and %E2%80%9Cslant-eyed gooks.%E2%80%9D%0D\
"He rose out of poverty and what seemed to be a life of crime, and made a success of himself. Why doesn''t he get a break?"\
Because he doesn''t deserve it. He''s proof that at least the Devil exists and bargains with her are easy to come by.
But did he ever give money to the guy who''s eye he stabbed out?
He said the right thing to do would be to try to find the blinded man and make amends, and admitted he hasn''t done so, but added that he was no longer burdened by guilt
I think he played himself in "Fear."%0D\
Very creepy and chilling.
He''s such an incredible piece of shit. What was the deal with he and Clooney?
""reeks of Irish Catholic white trash.""" %0D\
Please don''t insult Irish Catholics.%0D\
**********Right because we have the KENNEDYS for that!
Doesn''t anyone have anything new on this guy? We have been rehashing the same old "eye gouge" story for 10 years. Honestly, its time to move on. If he hasn''t done anything gossip-worthy since then he must truly be reformed. He sounds at this point like a terminal fucking bore - Catholic, daily church-goer, father of four kids, multi-millionaire. Next!
What''s the rumours on George Clooney and Mark Walberg? Weren''t they close and been several movies together back-to-back? He was suppose to be in the Ocean franchised but all of a sudden Matt Damon took is place..I wonder what happened..
This is the odd thing. Considering his racism why the fuck did he have a RAP career?
First of all, it was an eye, not eyes. And there was no indication that he "stabbed" the guy. Sound as if he hit him with something. And Wahlberg seemed genuinely regretful and sorry. Just wanted to cool down the hysterics from OP.
Oh, so because it was one eye and not 2, and punched instead of stabbed, it's not that big of a deal? Fuck you, "TV Critic."
The entire point of this thread is how someone who has a history of unprovoked, racially-motivated attacks resulting in serious injury should not be having their past glossed over like you and this "60 Minutes" interview are doing. He has done nothing to show that he paid for his mistakes except make vague claims that he "does right" and goes to church every day.
On top of all that, he has the nerve to say he didn't bother to make amends with his victims and he doesn't feel guilty anymore. He only apologized at the hearing so the judge would be more lenient.
And you want to say "oh, but it was just ONE eye, and he SEEMS sorry." Rot in hell, fuckwit.
Because he doesn''t deserve it. He''s proof that at least the Devil exists and bargains with her are easy to come by.%0D\
Who are you to say who deserves a break and who doesn''t? I guess on your planet, there''s no possibility of rehabilitation or redemption.
"Considering his racism why the fuck did he have a RAP career?"\
Uh, he''s from Boston.
He did the crime and he did the time. \
45 days and he never paid one fucking dime of his millions to the victims of his racist violence.\
You must be slow.
[quote}Marky Mark is a nasty deeply and carefully-closeted german homosexual....\
Oh dears aside....\
"He is of Irish, English, Swedish, and French Canadian ancestry. " The name is Swedish, not German.\
MPC gets loonier every day.
He can''t be racist. Racists only live in the south.
Never got this guy''s appeal and did not find him the least bit sexy in his Calvin Klein skivvie days. Ironically, the "meat" (pun intended) of "Boogie Nights" like in the performances of Burt Reynolds, Melora Walters, Don Cheadle, Heather Graham, William Hall Macy, Jr., Philip Seymour Hoffman and *especially* Julianne Moore. All people remember him for is that prosthetic sausage that he unfurled at the movie''s end.
He is like Matt Damon''s dumber cousin or something.
I thought he was one of Geffen''s boyz.
Scott Caan - he shows up on Entourage and in George''s films... he''s the gayest of the gay boys in Hollywood these days. he seems to be a buddy of Wahlberg''s too.
Lainey's Blind item
the top guess for Chocolate is George Clooney
Cuba is either Matt Damon or Mark Wahlberg
Cuba and Chocolate
Two different megastars, two different preferences, but in the end, the act is the same.
The first is a happy father, settled down and reformed, bankable and respected at the same time%E2%80%A6 a major player. Which is why it%E2%80%99s so important that he keeps his Cuban male lover hidden away to be enjoyed when he%E2%80%99s not on location. It might seem risqu%C3%A9, having his secret stashed so close to home and his official partner, but he%E2%80%99s hot and horny, and it%E2%80%99s not like he%E2%80%99s not living in a freestyling environment, although I have to tell you, this one really, really surprised me. He plays it so well. And in the end, if it wasn%E2%80%99t such a fraud, it totally wouldn%E2%80%99t matter. He is the nicest, nicest person. Kind and considerate and generous%E2%80%A6 makes me sad he%E2%80%99s forced to live a lie.
The other is much less attached, but just as heterosexually pressured, perhaps even more so. While he%E2%80%99s best known for his female pursuits, and so many females need to believe it that way, it would seem that women are not his only pleasures. When he decides he has a yearning for the other sex however, his flavour is decidedly darker. Sweet chocolate is what they call it? Yes. Black men are his weakness. On occasion, his hankering for it can get him into trouble. He was recently captivated by a fine black man working security at an event who was, unfortunately, not a homosexual. Apparently our star doesn%E2%80%99t have a very sophisticated gaydar because he hit up the wrong dude who did not appreciate the attention, even coming from such a powerful and coveted celebrity. He almost had his ass kicked. His people had to intervene, placate the man, pay off the man%E2%80%A6 although if he did end up getting the beat-down, he probably would have liked it. Because word is, as time goes on, he%E2%80%99s leaning towards picking a side. Like playing exclusively for the boys team.
[italic]They also neglected to indicate that he was involved in race bias activities (if memory serves, the man he attacked was a person of color). Also noted that they described him as coming from a "scrappy" (or, something like that) neighborhood. If he were black, they would have called it the ghetto.[/italic] \
So, he attacked a black person, and that makes it "race bias"? Huh?
R78, since he yelled racial slurs while doing it, yes.
Is there any video footage of Marky getting her peaches pounded?
Narcissist. I have family who cop pleaslike this. It doesn''t matter what they do (murder included) it''s all about *them* making a change or finding religion or whatever enlightenment they''ve found. The victims are obligated to forgive and have the burden to do so. I''ve literally been watching the news with some of them and someone''s kid (good kid, not a criminal) had been killed and they were picking apart the mothers reaction. It''s no wonder anyone fawns over Wahlberg or minimizes his crimes.
If Mary Marky is swedish then why does she look German? She certainly does not look like any swede we ever met.
Mrs Patrick Campbell
You assholes are so fucking predictable!
You know you''d taste this if you had the chance...
and no doubt many of the largest sizemeats already have!
I cant stand this douchey bastard. I hope he gets involved in some dirty scandal so he can go away for good.
It would be SO nice if someone would do a ''ronnie chasen'' on marky mark!

This is the tone of most of the posts on this thread. Kind of seems exactly like what most are accusing Mark Wahlberg of. %0D
I am no fan- he's just another famous person to me- he was OK in Perfect Storm and that recent crime movie- Apes was not his fault, it was the entire movie, the director.%0D
It seems to me that he had as rough a beginning as one can have- and that he is no longer like that. It seems to me he has gradually rehabilitated. There is no real indication that he got special treatment, rather that he stopped behaving like a thug. %0D
To the extent that he has rehabilitated his life, I believe he is to be commended. Most kids who grow up with this kind of life stick to it and a life of crime and prison. He did not. Seems like he is an exception. He has made quite a change.%0D
Not one post on this thread seems to even hint at this. Rather, most posts are somewhat akin, like the quote above, to his behavior as a juvenile delinquent.%0D
No surprise that Lara Logan thought his criminal background is worth a laugh. She''s a useless bitch who''s a little too close to the military.
He''s still a racist homophobe. He''s just now a religious, racist homophobe with good publicity that''s paid too much to allow himself to be violent over it again.%0D\

Nights was fine.
I guess doing a movie about porn doesn''t clash with his religion as long as the sex depicted is heterosexual?
Has anyone noticed that Amy Adams is not doing any press for this film? Very unusual. I recall a blind item about a lead actor and actress just loathing each other during the filming process. It must have been them. Also, if anyone noticed when, during the 60 minutes interview, Marky Mark was asked about Amy Adams, he said, "We sure got lucky there." And that was that. Weird thing to say about an actress so lauded for her chops, and who is playing your love interest. The way this is being marketed - as if she''s not even in the movie. And yet in order to have this movie to hit the female quadrants, they have to play up the love affair angle.
I had no idea he had a film out. One great thing about not having cable TV is that a lot of crap does not penetrate my mental space.
He looks very Swedish to me.%0D
I would love to see Mark and Christian Bale get their asses beat.
charlie, "he is to be commended"? For what, exactly? For being lucky enough that despite having minimal talent he has a career? Commendable would be if he applied himself to a craft. Having a hot body and terrible acting skills is not commendable.

The saddest thing is, Mark Wahlberg is not the only famous scum to have that kind of disgusting past. But, the fact that Wahlberg''s attack on that poor guy who lost his eye afterwards was completely unprovoked... UGH. Why is the world so fucked up!?!?!?
Mark Wahlberg doesn''t like to be called Marky Mark.
He has a lisp.
Mark has a third nipple.
Mark owes his career to the gay men who drooled over the sight of him in tighty whities.
Can''t stand this guy or his "acting". He''s the poor man''s Matt Damon, with none of the talent.

You really think what I said is the same as Wahlberg assaulting multiple Asians in one day, knocking them unconscious and putting out their eye? Really, Charlie? This seems the same to you?
He did not "do the time". He got off very, very light and never made any attempt at amends. \
He blinded a guy -- one eye or two doesn''t matter -- admits he charmed the judge with a display of remorse so he could get s lighter sentence, serves 45 days (a fraction of his two year sentence), goes on to fame and fortune, NEVER compensates the man he blinded or contacts or attempts to make amends with him in any way, but claimed he''s "unburdened by guilt" over this. Oh and he goes to mass every day and supports the catholic church. He''s got TONS of money for a homophobic cabal of child rapists, but none for the poor man living the rest of his life without sight.
Does charlie ever see a thread and not comment? It seems like no thought or opinion is ever too inane or irrelevant to post. \
"He is to be commended". Yes, because choosing not to beat up racial minorities after awell-connected family member scores you a gig that pays piles of money is so very admirable. \
Charlie himself is quite affluent and comes from money. People from this class love to fall all over themselves with paise when someone from the lower classes "makes good"...even when anyone with a critical eye (and no knee-jerk need to prove they "get" the "little people") can see it''s all a big lie. \
The guy is a thug. He never did the hard work to reform himself, never made any amends with the guy who''s eyesight he stole. He just rakes in millions while projecting an image of religious family man. \
Anyone duped by his act is a moron.
Does charlie ever see a thread and not comment?%0D\
Never, although he once commented in only 14 sentences. We assumed there was a sudden power outage in NYC and that he''d be back in an hour with another five paragraphs.
Found this clip of him as a young rapper thug on YouTube. Hilarious the way he talks like a black man, or anyway, how he thinks a black man talks. Kick-ass body back then, but a real trashy kid.
If he had been a black man, he would still be in prison and would never have had a career.
r115, he''d probably had a much more credible career as rap star instead of doing that milktoast Good Vibrations stuff as Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
I hate Marky Mark too and if I saw him in the street I''d say it and I''d take a screwdriver with me. %0D\

Why is it that Winona gets blacklisted for lifting a few tops and Whalberg gets Oscar prestige for assault & battery?
Why is it that Winona gets blacklisted for lifting a few tops and Whalberg gets Oscar prestige for assault & battery?\
Wahlberg did not get Oscar prestige for assault and battery. (At most, you could say that he has received critical acclaim in spite of his felonious past, not because of it.)\
Then again, Charles Dutton, a fine actor (and I truly think he is), is a convicted murderer. Do you hold that against Dutton, R120?
That depends on the circumstances re: Dutton.\
If it was felony murder, that''s different.\
Ryder is blacklisted because she''s unstable, not because she shoplifts R120. Also, it''s much harder to be female in Hollywood.\
Christian Bale, who used to hang around with her when he was young, is a meth & coke head, but works because he has his shit together for shooting. He''s also lower profile out and about.
Dutton''s a convicted murderer? I knew he was in jail, but this is the info from his IMDb profile%0D\
Charles S. Dutton was convicted of possession of a deadly weapon and served a three-year sentence. While in prison he assaulted a corrections officer and was sentenced to an additional 7-1/2 years in prison. While serving his sentence he read a play that amused him so much he started a theatre group. To start the group he had to be attending school, and he had dropped out of school in the seventh grade. He not only took classes to finish his elementary school education, but by the time he finished his sentence he had a two-year college degree.%0D\
This man sounds far more impressive than Wahlberg.
Guess who was on the honory board of directors of Jerry Sandusky's charity, The Second Mile?
Some other well-known names were on the board, too
I'm shocked that this hasn't been mentioned here!
I always thought the Andy Samberg skit Mark Wahlberg was gr8 and pretty much summed up his acting, especially in The Happening.
Also, didn't he also get into a verbal fight with Madonna, and a phsyical fight with her manager at a club, calling Guy Oseary a fag, etc???
A funny video I saw from Lainey which was only a stop motion pic, but a reporter asked Mark Walberg on some red carpet about Justin Bieber, and his wife standing next, let out a huge sigh and rolled her eyes and walked away. Pretty funny stuff.
He's still the same sociopath he was back when he was a little racist/homophobe/criminal. He just cleaned up his act which is very easy to do when you are a sociopath.
What is this thing about saying hi to your mother that Andy Samberg always does. Does Mark really say that?
HiS acting sucks
It's "giggled and grinned," not "giggled and grin," OP.
Welcome to white privilege, folks.
Guess who was on the honory board of directors
Where the fuck are these illiterates coming from? Or is it one person who is continually posting?
Sad, but true r133.
Wahlberg was also rumored to be rough trade for a black antiques dealer either in Boston or NYC for a while. How contradictory. It's like David Duke buttfucking a Black Muslim or something.
He went to Yale?!? Geez, they'd just take anybody.
R125 is that desperate UVa troll.
It's one thing to remember someone's past but it's another to continue to bash them over the head with it (see the irony?] for the rest of their lives.
Anyway, yes, he was a violent thug as a kid. That remains. But if you think that people can't change then you're wrong. Kids who are raised in bad and neglectful circumstances are full of rage and lash out at those they can lash out at - those perceived as weaker or less valuable by our society.
Whatever happened to effect a change in Wahlberg seems to have worked. Unless we hear of a repeat performance from his darker days then I'd say he probably has rehabilitated himself. Part of it is just maturing and maybe a greater part was his brother who obviously loved him and worked to give him a chance at a better life.
I can't get on the hate train - I may remain wary but I don;t resent or begrduge him his success. I thought he was perfect in Boogie Nights and very good in The Departed - I can't rememebr seeing him in anything else. I agree Donnie is very good and was very effective in Band of Brothers.
I've seen this type of racist behavior many times and it stems more from anger and an immature desire to shock than it does from true racism. He may or may not hold real racist beliefs - the Janet Jackson remark was certainly offensive & stupid - but his actions as a teenager aren't the real tell. More important is what is he doing now? What is his minority hiring record like? How does he treat minorities today?
As for his Vietnamese victim(s), there is no excuse for his failure to seek them out for restitution. People often put episodes in their life they are most ashamed of in a separate mental space and rarely visit them. In some ways that helps them move on which is necessary to get on with life. But he could have and should have tried to find them. They very well could be dead or moved back to Vietnam. That seems more likely or why wouldn't they have sought him out themselves? Maybe Donnie quietly took care of them long ago. Surely though Wahlberg could have someone quietly look into it.
I don't want to be an apologist for the guy but this thread is sad if people really think that people who have done wrong should never get a chance at rehabilitation. It sounds so republican to me and maybe tinged with some bitterness at someone else's success. Rehabilitation is okay with you guys as long as they don't get too successful then? Please.
Not all "bergs" are Germans. Ever hear of Raoul Wallenberg?
I think his brother (the one on Blue Bloods) is way better than he is; he is meh! Don't like his looks either.
R136, I don't disagree with you. I am a big believer in a person's capacity to reform and change. But in the case of Mark Wahlberg, I sense a swagger and a self-righteousness, a glibness that just doesn't work for me.
He's been wildly successful. He has enough money and connections to buy himself out of trouble. He's also shrewd and smart enough to keep his world small and familiar. He picks his people and he picks his fights.
I don't hate him. I enjoyed his work in The Fighter, and The Departed, where he essentially played himself. But I don't trust him. Not a guy I'd ever want to meet, or talk to. I think he's a racist and a homophobe. I think it's hardwired into his brain.
A good second-tier actor. In fact, he is a better character actor than a leading man.
As for the BI posted earlier: the married guy is Matt Damon. The story has been out there for years about the Cuban "friend" who lives near him. In fact, I think that at one time the guy was a "personal assistant." Do a search here at DL.
A friend of mine met Damon a few years ago at a Democratic fundraiser. Told me the Damon was real easy on the eyes, nice, and not someone with an attitude. I also heard that anyone with gaydar would definitely get a vibe from him.
Avoid at all costs "We Bought a Zoo." Cameron Crowe makes Speilberg look like Bergman.
r136 I'm so sick of people like you making excuses for racists. If getting arrested for a racial hate crime which resulted in the blinding of someone isn't racist, then what is?
I've always thought he was actually gay. He def. has gay voice.
he's got some big suckable nipples in R112's link... i could definitely get off just sucking on those... he has nice full lips too... probably gives a good bj...
I've always had a thing for Mark, it's the bad boy thing.
He's always creeped me out. I can't remember who it was, but when Wahlberg was nominated for an Oscar, somebody (could it have been Kathy Griffin of all people?) made a joke about how Wahlberg had really turned his life around, from racist ex-con thug to Oscar nominee.
Wahlberg was not amused (esp. since the joke came after his loss).
He owes his career in showbiz to his brother Donnie. Donnie put together and promoted his musical group, which lead to the Calvin Klein commercials that made him a star. Donnie also turned to acting first, I'm guessing he had something to do with introducing Mark to some people in Hollywood.
I can't believe people are surprised he's done well in Hollywood after that type of childhood. He sounds impulsive and narcissistic, two qualities found in abundance in Hollywood.
I agree. I have always hated this obnoxious asshole. He's a shit actor; what anyone sees in him is beyond me. He owes his whole career to Calvin Klein (and the Funky Bunch).
To be honest, he was really good playing himself in his biopic - you know, the one called 'Fear'?
Do you realize how many guys start "rock bands" and how many guys model or try to model, whther it's for underwear for Calvin Klein or other fashion stuff? music and fashion are very competitive worlds.
So what made the Wahlberg boys so lucky?
Connections,Thuggery and Sex. Being scrappy and amoral got them where they are. Everything Wahlberg touches turns to gold. It's not an accident. I would love to discover the real story behind their ascendance. I suspect it is sordid.
Just wanted to add that maybe there is more Dirk Diggler to Wahlberg than he will ever admit.
Thank you OP! Most of his movies have tanked thank God! Even Clooney dumped him as a fuckbuddy!
I think he needs to do something BIG to repay the guy he blinded in one eye.
That said, I thought he was very sexy in "Date Night."
Uber-Catholic while not being very Catholic (that whole "living in sin" stuff)
'Everything Wahlberg touches turns to gold.'
His Oscar winning turn in the billion-dollar-earning Planet of the Apes Tim Burton reboot perfectly illustrates that.
"This burns my ass. He makes millions of dollars and has done nothing to make amends for his thuggish ways."
I am in no way a fan of Mark W. He has been good in a couple film, most recently the one he played the boxer...
He did "pay" in the legal sense which is really all we can evaluate or hold anyone responsible for. And he did change his life. I suppose he is one of the rare ones who did rehabilitate. Are we supposed to think this is a bad thing? Or are we to condemn for life all those who serve their time and go on to live their lives, and do so despite their current behavior? He is not a pedophile you know (something that does not go away or rehabilitate well.) Do they owe the world forever, or do they owe their legal punishment?
I think I would rather leave it up to courts than to public opinion or free floating anger and envy almost as acute as he had as a kid, here on DL. I sure those on this thread who have gotten into trouble might agree.
No one on this thread has any idea of what he does charitably with his current wealth either. This is just one of those screed threads where posters give free rein to their anger at an apparently easy target- in fact few know much of anything about his life since his days of crime. Oh yeah he has been homophobic- but I have ascribed most of that to the language of his culture. He has been no more homophobic in a knee jerk fashion than 50% of the posts you read on DL.
I am no fan. I do find his story interesting because he mostly certainly has found a way out of a life that seemed destined to self desgtruction and harm. I agree he is not a particularly attractive character, still- but he sure is interesting.
"reeks of Irish Catholic white trash.""
Please don't insult Irish Catholics.
Miss Mark is a german white trash homosexual.
Yessir- love to throw around bigotry and stereotypes- the one that suits your own prejudice of course. As I previously stated: the prinicple bigotry and homophobia on this thread is not on display in the life of Mark W, but in the posts condemning him.
Worked with a crewmember who worshipped the ground MW walked on....blathered on about how MW would contribute to a lot of charities (I believe orphanages were mentioned), was terrific to the crew and just an all-around swell guy. The crewmember was an older guy, maybe in his 60's, and pretty much called MW a saint.
I think it might have been on The Departed (which I thought was pretty good, but not as good as the original).
If he was colored you'd be wetting yourself on how he got his life together.
It takes a lot more than being photographed with your son at a Lakers game to be a "good dad."
Not all "bergs" are Germans. Ever hear of Raoul Wallenberg?
Aren't nearly all "bergs" Jewish?
"If he was colored you'd be wetting yourself on how he got his life together."
Colored? Are you stuck in a 1952 timewarp?
I need some damn cheese! too drunk to drive to the pizza place, com!!
I like Mark Wahlberg he was the producer for the TV shows Enteroage & Boardwalk Empire. I also like his brother Donnie who was in New Kids on the Block band and the movie The 6th Sense. Mark is not racist, he is not a homophobe. I am happy Marky Mark has turned his life around & is now a better person. Mark was in one of my favorite movies with Leo DiCaprio: The Basketball Diaries.
I love how r136 wrote this:
I don't want to be an apologist for the guy..
but at the same time twists himself into knots trying to find excuses for Marky Mark..
As for his Vietnamese victim(s), there is no excuse for his failure to seek them out for restitution. I like when DL apologists will do whatever it takes to defend the actions of anyone they consider hot. Case in point, start a thread about Eddie Murphy and watch the same people call for his head because of 30 year old comedy routines.
Hmmm. After reading this it sort of warps my small Mark W. story. This was *years ago*, but because I never thought he swam at the same Ymca as me (ifyaknowhatimean) I will post.
I was going to go see some indy movie at the Nuart Theatre in LA, years ago. I had just finished eating at the subway across the street, I was crossing the street on Santa Monica Blvd, there was so much traffic. As I was crossing I noticed 2 guys in a top down car (not good with cars - just the ones with the top down in LA smile) I noticed that the one in the passenger side was stairing at me as I crossed, and when I arrived at the sidewalk. I noticed it was Mark W. The other dude the driver, was looking str8 ahead, but Mark watched as I walked right towards the Theatre. I was dressed casual, nothing major. I thought, hmm weird. I just remember he was kinda intense.
So anyways after reading this... Maybe it was I need to let out some steam and pummel your eyes. Yowza! It was just odd, never pinged for me.
Oh Christ. Leave Him Alone! Id like to see any one of you people go from where he was, to being a huge succesfull actor & producer. Yes, obviously he did wrong things, he was young & stupid. He finally got balls & matured. He did apologize at his trial. who knows whether it was just to say it, or if it was a truley sincere apology. You weren't there, you aren't him, stop judging. Only God can do that. =)
stop judging. Only God can do that.
Of course I can judge that jackass. You sound like some Fundie Frau, r170.
either that or she is just SLOW. mark and his ugly-azz wife are BOTH douchebags. THE END
he actually compared beautiful, talented janet jackson to an ape??? wtf???
he GOTS to be kidding, with that ole worn-out, flat-chested, FLABBY ASSED, homely-looking, pathetic, needy/clingy, cum-bucket THANG that he NOW calls his "wife"???
Those were just made up stories to make him look tough.
** Yes, it's been years, but he needs to make amends- period. He needs to find his one-eyed victim and make a SINCERE apology, meet his family, apologize to all of them and see what they need financially. That's what a decent person would do. Apologizing at trial means nothing!
I don't care about MW in any way the only reason I follow him at all is I am waiting for the day when he truly makes restitution!
With a body like Marky Mark, he could beat the shit outta me
Bostonian here -- his brother Paul is a chef/owner at one of my favorite places, Alma Nove in Hingham. He's in the kitchen quite a bit. He also has a burger restaurant in Hingham. He seems like a nice guy and humble. I think that Mark is, not shockingly, the backer of his restaurants. I've seen him at Alma Nove once or twice. He's very "compact" looking.
As a result of what he did to that poor man, I have never viewed any of his films and I grab the remote if he shows up on TV.
He totally has gayvoice if you ask me.
His brother, Donnie, is responsible for Marky's Hollywood career. After he got out of prison, Donnie introduced him to that pedophile producer, who set about turning Marky into a thuggish performer. It was all downhill from there.
I wonder what Marky paid the pedophile producer? Probably gave him millions of dollars worth of blow jobs.
"made some mistakes"
No, mistakes are things you can put right. This he can't ever put right. He should not be a celebrity. He is stupid, untalented, bigoted, and a sleaze.
Some mistakes can't be put right. People can and do change and if he really hadnt changed he'd have made more of a display and more who knew one would complain
Yea i bet if he was black any of you would not be crying look at 50 cent he shot a guy saying if he had the chance he would do it again but no matter what its gonna be the white mans fault get over yourselfs and quit dwelling on someones past cause he is a great white actor teddy was Hella funny with him in it classic:)
Illiterate fuck @ R183 needs to be murdered.
Too bad 50 cent didn't shoot R183.
The victim's been touring for years in Oedipus Rex.
But Carol Burnett got the part in the movie.
If only Mark Wahlberg had been there to protect the poor guy from the attack, like the hero he is. Wham! Bam! He'd have taken care of it!
I'll go with R183 and R184 both in a tiger cage so they can work out their respective philosophical differences with a force of nature.
"... I take full responsibility".
And this responsibility consists of ... ?
It's a thin line between bragging & confession; but, I think that our little Marky is having great difficulty crossing over to the other side.
Yeah, he's got a great body -- but I've jettisoned people from my life for stealing, drugging, drinking, (actually for lovin' the drink more than me. Or anyone else.) and taking my knives and not bringing them back. (Refugee. I offer that as explanation, rather than as excuse.) Surely folks can overlook his obvious physical charms as easily as he overlooks his step 9. C'mon and REALLY own it Mark!
As Sen. Joe McCarthy was asked near the end of his reign: "Have you no shame, sir? At long last, have you no shame?"
He'd never compensate this man in any way . He has not changed, he just found a racket that is better than his street thug days. Mark Wahlberg is a vulgar, talentless piece of shit and a violent, uneducated street thug. Hollywood or prison are the perfect places for him. But his less than desireable educational and personal characteristics uniquely qualify him for a successful career in Hollywood.
Hollywood is a cesspool. Wahlberg's resume of drug use, arrests for violent attacks, and lack of education is in the eyes of Hollywood akin to finishing with a degree from Harvard. It is the only industry/profession where a criminal past, lack of education and inability to pass drug testing will not be held against you when applying for a job. That kind of past is probably a PLUS in Hollywood.
Educated, professional and decent people who chose to be in the acting business have said they find Hollywood to be a filthy business and that many of the people in it are trash. But to remain employed they must "smile and wave boys, smile and wave" because these same people determine their bread and butter.
Only in a business like Hollywood could a talentless piece of scum like Wahlberg be successful. He must be saying to himself "Wow ---what a racket. I can hardly read but they pay me to ACT".
This is what being an untalented, arrogant asshole gets you in this world:
