Because they HATE Castro.\
Liberals LOVE Castro.
Democrats are liberals. Liberals are socialists. Socialists are communists. Castro is a communist.
This is one demographic I completely understand. They have one issue that is of paramount importance to them, and the Republicans are on the right side of that issue from their point of view. They want Castro and the communists gone, end of story.
What does that have to do with Democrats, R3?
The Cubans in Miami are the most homophobic people on the planet. I''m not surprised they''re also Repukes.
They think they want to go back to Cuba, but most of them would never leave Miami.
No they are NOT, r5.\
WE ARE, dear.
The Mormon Church and cult members.
They''ve seen the worst case scenario of socialism in their own country and never EVER want to go back to anything close to that. A lot of Democrats are Castro apologistas. \
You don''t vote for people who support a regime that sent your grandpa to cut sugar canes in an internment camp not supporting the government.\
I''ve read Russian-Americans tend to vote the same way for the same reasons.
R8, you do realize that Socialism and Communism are two different things, right?
Yes, R9, thanks for the polisci 101 lesson. \
If you''ve lived the horrors of one, the other can seem like a slipper slope/gateway. Especially because, historically, it sometimes has been.
Support of anti-Cuban sanctions is about as deep a tenet of the Republican party as support for Israel. Younger Cubans are liberalizing on the issue, but for older Cubans Castro is nearly the equivalent of Hitler.
As opposed to most immigrants from other countries, Cuban-Americans were the rich and powerful of their land, and the longer the family has been here, the richer they were (they were able to up and leave immediately in 1959). The ones who benefitted from the initial revolution (students, culturals, liberals) of course, stayed... until they started running out of food and cars, because of the embargos.%0D\
Next up, Venezuelan-Amereicans
You''ve obviously never lived in Miami, R7. I have.%0D\
Maricon is by far their favorite word.
Because they "want to take their country back!"
Racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia. It's a lie that republicans have ever done anything for American Cubans. When you read the gigantic RANSOM Kennedy paid Cuba for those idiot fighters at the Bay of Pigs, an operation that ran right through the Cuban missile crisis, and that the Bay of Pigs was an operation that could never have succeeded regardless of what air cover the US would have given it, and those fucking CUBANS still hated JFK, well, you can't help but wish that all those vile Miami Cuban retards died a painful horrible death. The CIA dropped a few bombs on Guatemala and the target government fled in terror, but Castro had operated for years against Bautista's army which had some modern planes, so the assumption that his revolution would collapse seems like the thinking of an idiot three year old. Of course that's because all the Joint Chiefs of Staff and CIA people were vile racists at the time, but so were the upper class white Cubans who have always comprised the political potency of Miami's Latin community.%0D
I have no sympathy for these people. I'd rather have more Russian mobsters, and the Cubans in Miami should all have their citizenship revoked and be sent back to Cuba to remake it into their fascist hellhole.%0D
The majority of Cubans in Miami are there due to the Mariel boatlifts of the 70s, and they were mostly NOT rich back home. And most of them weren''t white.\
A lot of the Cubans that have been there since the early 60s aren''t rich, either - just political dissidents. I''m a Cuban lesbian (my family including my 80yo grandparents are all very supportive of lgbt rights) and they were country bumpkins without a penny to their names. They left in the 60s because they couldn''t stand to see their kids being indoctrinated relentlessly in the schools and couldn''t stand being spied on constantly by their own neighbors and relatives.
R15 ''s racist bullshit rant should help explain why a lot of Cuban-Americans don''t feel welcome by the Democrats. \
There is as much homophobia in Miami as anywhere else. Unlike Marco Rubio, most of the Cubans I know who vote Republican there do it out of anti-Castro reactionary sentiment, and not religious zeal. Most of them tend to be on the libertarian small-government personal liberty side of things and they feel like the left is against those things. \
I''m not saying I agree with it or that there aren''t flaws in the rationale. But y''all asked why, and that''s why.
Yeah, and what I''m telling you is that YOU are the racist R17, not me.%0D\
Democrats never "coddled" Castro, and Republicans never attacked him.%0D\
The Cuban love affair with Republicans has nothing to do with JFK, who ransomed all the "Freedom fighters" who would have been executed in any other country; and nothing to do with Castro in the final analysis. After all, Nixon extended his hand to the Soviets and Red Chinese and left Vietnam to the Communists. No, the Cuban love affair with Republicanism is all about local conditions in Miami, namely the need they felt to oppose blacks and Jews ON RACIAL GROUNDS. What was extraordinary is the extremes their political choice was pursued. The gangsters of Alpha 66 and other groups have routinely murdered their political opponents and liberals in the sixties, seventies, and even eighties, and election fraud is considered a minimal sort of crime, like speeding.%0D
[quote]the Cuban love affair with Republicanism is all about local conditions in Miami, namely the need they felt to oppose blacks and Jews ON RACIAL GROUNDS.\
What the fuck?\
First of all, a lot of Cubans ARE black and/or Jewish. Nearly 70% of Cubans are of black descent - myself included. \
Second of all, please don''t attempt to speak for an ethnic group you so plainly despise, you dumb fuck. If you ran your elitist bullshit tin hat hysteria by ANY Cuban in Miami right now, they would think you are totally delusional, on the level of a UFO conspiracy theorist - because you are.\
Democrats in Congress RIGHT NOW love Castro, support lifting the embargo, and are largely apologistas for Castro''s regime across the board. That is a fact. Why would anyone vote for people who support a regime they''ve escaped out of desperation, and sometimes fear for their lives? Use your head, you overprivileged racist idiot.
[quote]Democrats in Congress RIGHT NOW love Castro, support lifting the embargo, and are largely apologistas for Castro''s regime across the board.\
Anti-communism is the main reason, but a second reason is that Cuban-Americans are very pro-free enterprise.
Yeah, the embargo''s worked out really well for 50 years R19.
Because so many of them are or are descended from the old gambling/prostitution/mafia families that got run out of Cuba by Castro and they want it all back the way it used to be and they think the republicans will give it to them.
For all intents and purposes, R20, Castro is dead.\
Enough is enough.\
Why continue to punish the Cuban people?
Interesting thread this.\
We wonder why the Cubans are still resisting adopting democracy unlike the old communist regimes elsewhere.\
Part of the reason is the older population remembers how truly awful things were under the Baptista/Mafia crowd that still influences our domestic government from exile in Miami.\
The Miami Cubans don''t care about the US.\
As soon as they can get back to Cuba they''re outta here.
The big shot Miami Cubans wouldn''t exactly be welcomed with open arms by the native Cubans.
The hottest vacation sex can be had in Miami.
I swear we just had this thread last week.\
Cuban Americans became staunch Republicans after Kennedy "betrayed" them during Bay of Pigs.\
Read Joan Didion''s book "Miami."\
Younger generations of Cuban Americans who have little connection to the island tend to support reopening relations, as well as supporting Democrats.
Most Cubans on the island are Black or Mulato. However, the Cubans who are most visible in South Florida, and who most gay men seem to lust after, are white.
R30, "Mulato," really? REALLY??%0D\
In the 21st Century, it''s known as mixed race, gramps.
Not in Cuba it''s not r31.
The word mulato is still widely used in Latin America. It only became politically incorrect in North America, where it got a racist ting, due to, well...racism!%0D
Mixed race can be any combination. Mulatto is more specific, referring to the offspring of one white parent and one black one.
MULATO? You''re on the DL, honey. We use "BLATINO" here!
r5 Most ethnic males HATE gays and women.
The whole point of this thread R29 is that JFK did not "BETRAY" them. He ransomed a thousand traitors from an enemy government. Even if he had provided air support Castro would have beaten those idiots on the ground.%0D
R19 is typical of the racist Cuban. Yes, there are blacks and Jews in the Cuban community. Guess what else? They are not republican. The love affair between Cubans and the republicans is strictly a white thing.%0D
Cubans do NOT vote Republican because Democrats are liberal. That had very little to do with it.
Cubans vote Republican because of the Bay of Pigs invasion during the Kennedy administration. Kennedy and the CIA organized a plot to assasinate Castro. The plot involved Cubans exiled in the US (the Alpha 66). They were supposed to sneak into the island via a small port called the Bay of Pigs. Kennedy/the CIA had promised the Alphas they would have US support and backup, but the US support never came. All hell broke loose, and most the Alphas were slaughtered at the Bay of Pigs. All the Cubans in the US felt betrayed by Kennedy (a Democrat), and vowed not to support him or his party anymore.
The reason most Cubans still vote Republican is because they were either around back then and remember the Bay of Pigs, or their parents and grandparents are Republican and they just ended up being raised in Republican homes.
Again, it has nothing to do with some dumbass equasion that Democrats = liberals = socialists = communists = Castro. Bay of Pigs, look it up.
A Cuban Guy.
[quote]We wonder why the Cubans are still resisting adopting democracy unlike the old communist regimes elsewhere.
Because they don't want the exiles to return.
[quote]However, the Cubans who are most visible in South Florida, and who most gay men seem to lust after, are white.
But they aren't "white" white.
R41, I am according to the media!
What's with Cubans having the name Ros-Lehtinen?
They all believe that before Castro they were in the 1% back in Cuba. In fact, none of them were. Bautista and his buddies don't have anything to do with those violent retards in Miami.
The Cuban's who left Cuba, were the greedy rich. They caused the revolution, because of their greed. The ones who came after don't want to pay taxes, they hope to be rich. They vote for what they think is their own interest, the Republican agenda. The dumb thing is, most of them will not be rich, so as the middle class, they carry the burden, while the wealthy are let off the hook.
Racist and fascist.
R20 You supply the link showing that what is being stated is NOT true. Do your own fucking work.
Sorry r47, logic doesn't work that way. You make a statement, you have to back it up. You can't just issue a challenge for someone to disprove it.
My paternal grandma was Afro-Cuban. A crazy and difficult woman, but hardly Republican.
[quote]This is one demographic I completely understand. They have one issue that is of paramount importance to them, and the Republicans are on the right side of that issue from their point of view. They want Castro and the communists gone, end of story.
No, they want Castro gone and the darkies thrown out of their country. They want a return to Batista. These people are just as extreme as the Communists over there. They want their dictator propped up over there, and the current one out. You do realize why these people fled to begin with, right? They weren't all saints. There's a reason why Castro came to power to begin with.
And yes, Cubans are one of the most racist, misogynistic, homophobic bastards around.
Troll-dar r17, and you'll see that it's a Freeper. Democrats don't want YOU for a reason, tard!
"They've seen the worst case scenario of socialism in their own country"
Cuba, for all of its faults, is far from the worst case scenario of socialism.
Because the Democrats are all for getting a free ride and living off and getting a paid check from the goverment and cubans believe in free enterprise and not living off the goverment, that's why they are the most succesful group of all hispanic, surpasing in education and wealth even anglo americans. Also, cubans are no homogenous, there are cacuasian, black, or asians, there's no native indian gene in their DNA. Cubans can be white, black or mulato. Spanish (Spaniard from Spain), being the dominant trait, but they can also be white european, like me, or they can black or asian. Cubans are just like the americans, they are a rainbow of people and colors.
As someone that once lived in South Florida for a while and got to know Cubans of different ages, my experience is as follows: The old Cubans are conservative because, as pointed out, they are the ones that caused the Revolution in the first place with their corruption and greed. They are living in the past (a favorite pass-time of all conservatives) and think the Republicans are the best ones for returning Cuba to the way it used to be. Younger Cubans reject this position. They know conservatives are only using the Cuban American population to score political points. They are distrustful of anyone that tries to control their life as much as conservatives do. They dont love Castro, but they despise the older generation even more because they see them as the reason Castro came about in the first place. Also, the older Cubans treat the new arrivals pretty shitty and assign to them the same prejudices old white people in the south west do to Mexicans.
And anyone that thinks the reason things are so bad in Cuba is because of the embargo is misinformed. The embargo is meaningless as Cuba has plenty of trade with other nations. The reasons things suck down there is because of the greed, corruption and incompetence of the Castro regime.
R47 You raped and murdered a girl last year.
Now it is up to you to prove me wrong.
See how it works now?
What have we learned in this thread? Cubans say they vote for Republicans because the Bay of Pigs failure is blamed on Kennedy; but this isn't true. Democrats have not been "worse" on Communism than Republicans, no, not even Kennedy.
So what does it mean that they vote Republican but the reason they give for it is a ridiculous lie?
It means they can't say the real reason, which is all about getting ahead in America by stepping on blacks, gays, and other minorities; by driving corrupt bargains with folk like Jeb Bush, and generally occupying the leadership vacuum that exists on the republican side because the republican platform is repugnant to all intelligent people.
From my experience living in S Florida, the Cuban's that I've known are the ones who were wealthy and had property in Cuba and were pissed off with communism and Castro when all their wealth and property had to be redistributed. They're perfect Republicans who instead of complaining about imaginary communists/socialists(Barack Obama) actually can complain about a real communist dictator.
Some of them also hate blacks. They have a contentious relationship with the other huge group in S. Florida, the Haitians. The Haitians can't become US citizens because the US government says extreme poverty and fear of oppression doesn't count. Yet, the Cubans have more political power so have a wet foot/dry foot police. The moment they step foot on US land, they instantly can become US citizens/residents. They don't get deported. The two groups hate each other. So casual racism is another reason they identify with the Republicans.
[quote] The Miami Cubans don't care about the US. As soon as they can get back to Cuba they're outta here.
Is there somewhere I can send a check to help make this happen?
Because they're both horrible, hateful people who turn anything they touch into shit. Including that puta Gloria Estefan.
[quote] If you ran your elitist bullshit tin hat hysteria by ANY Cuban in Miami right now, they would think you are totally delusional, on the level of a UFO conspiracy theorist - because you are.
[quote] Democrats in Congress RIGHT NOW love Castro
R19, when you're talking about "tin hat hysteria", I hope you're looking in the mirror. Your entire post is a steaming pile of dog shit.
"The moment they step foot on US land, they instantly can become US citizens/residents."
Um, no. That used to be true, but Bush II changed all that. One of the reasons Cubans voted for Obama in '08.
My family left Cuba and we sure as hell weren't rich. In fact, my mother helped run guns for Castro and had to go "underground" in the year before the revolution. And the embargo worked against the Americans who did want the Mafia to still run things. Basically, Cuba was America's whore house and they wanted it kept that way.
Yes, older Cubans vote republican, are homophobic etc. But, I'm fifty and have hated republicans since before I could vote. And there are plenty of gay Cubans in my family. Also, family members my age stopped voting Republican years ago. My republican loving father and people of his generation are dead or dying, and only the craziest among them wanted to go back to Cuba when they were alive. No practical old person wants to start over again after 50 years in one country.
There is nothing anywhere to indicate that the wet foot/dry foot policy of Cuban immigration have been revoked. It seems to still be effective policy. There are numerous articles however, that as the Cubans who try to immigrate become darker and poorer, there's coincidentally been a tightening of immigration policy. But again, there's nothing to indicate that Bush eliminated this wet foot/dry foot policy that treats Cuban immigrants discriminately better than immigrants from other countries like Mexico & Haiti, have been eliminated.
Here's an article written in 2011 about wet foot dry foot to indicate the policy is still in place and rankle all other immigrants:
"One of the many sore spots in the national debate over immigration policy is the preferential treatment that is given to refugees from Cuba who flee their country for U.S. soil. The Cuban Adjustment Act of 1966 allows anyone who flees Cuba and enters the United States to be afforded the opportunity to remain in the country and become a permanent resident. In 1995 the Clinton Administration, in an agreement with Fidel Castro, amended this policy so that if a Cuban refugee was found at sea, that individual would be sent back to Cuba; but if the refugee was fortunate enough to make it to dry land, that person would be allowed to stay and pursue residency status, hen"ce the “Wet foot-Dry foot” policy that remains in effect today. "
So information that somehow MR. Bush had the guts to get rid of this discriminatory immigration policy is false.
Bush didnt change the "wet foot - dry foot" policy, but McCain did campaign that it should be re-evaluated.
It's not revoked. Discussing something and whether it should remain a policy is not the same as revoking a policy. Wet Foot/Dry foot is still in place.
What Bush did was return some Cubans because he said TECHNICALLY they didn't land on US soil. That is not revoking the Wet Foot/Dry Foot policy. That's just arguing about what constitutes US soil. To this day, if some Cuban lands on Fort Lauderdale Beach, they're still in line to be US citizens.
they vote republicans because they are brain wash!!!
Aren't Cubans primarily Catholic? Perhaps they take offence with the Democrats taking the word "God" out of everything. With the perception that the Democrats are "Godless" they would quite naturally tend toward the party that is the more conservative/believes-in-religion.
The Cubans that vote Republican are mostly the older generation. Like all conservatives, they are hopelessly stuck in the past.
All of you who are on the left are blind and brainwashed, just like masses get brainwashed by dictators. Emotional and hopeful political speeches without any real substance are exatcly what presidents on the left and socialists like to give to make people euphoric and exited about this bright and peaceful future in which all will be iqual and affordable and friendly and lovely right?. Doesnt that sound familiar? Cuba, Castro's revolution promissed that and yes cuban get a lot of things for free. but the quality of those things are detrimental and embarrasing for decent living. Cuban live like pigs in a farm in that country, they get fed horrible food for free, they get free healthcare that sucks because you can die of any little simple illness, and they are locked down they cant get out of the country or travel anywhere unless they escape like a fedup slave. Yes cubans are slaves, not free. They were promissed heaven by a great speaker who delivered perfect speeches full of hope and change and promissed to treat everyone equal and that there were not going to be different social classes. And he delivered because Today everyone is equally poor, equally ignorant and equally enslaved. Cuban dont like republicans because they think democrats are going to become Castro, that is extreme to say at this point but it is the same philosophy that simply doesnt work. Cubans dont get inspired by nice speeches and tears of joy, we are used to them leading to a lie and a goverment controlled country where people loose their basic freedomes. But people dont listen to those who have live the experience of being fooled by a goverment and being slaves without the chains. That is why cuban know that the left doesnt work because we have LIVED IT for 60 years! but no one ever changes by someone elses experience, people need to get burned and feel in their own skin how painfull it really is to learn not to play with fire, even if i show you my burns you will not believe me, except for those that can see beyond their own little square box.
Cuban expats are awful. That's why.
Susana, it might interest you to know that Cubans now live thirty years longer on average than they did under the noble Bautista and capitalism.
Say Hello to my little friend!
Swallowing too much salt water in the inner tubes.
Your crazy diatribe says infinitely more about you than us.
Wow, this thread brought out the crazy! R19 and Susana need to take a nice brisk walk in the fresh air.
Because they're the people who had it great under Batista and want to go back to the way things were. If the Republicans get their way, America will be like Cuba under Batista - a few rich and a lot of peasants. (And yeah, Castro is no better.)
Cuban-Americans vote Republican because they aren't considered illegal immigrants in the eye of republicans. They can just float over to Florida and they get to stay. No questions asked.
That is why I say Mexicans should just go to Cuba and then come into Florida and they would be allowed to stay.
This thread is useless without a picture of Elian Gonzalez' father, shirtless
this are the most stupid comments i ever seen in the internet....... republicans dont give a shit about people, democrats do, im cuban and i vote for obama who is a democrat
They hate Communism, and hate darkie taking over their former country. They want nothing to do with America.
Their second favorite word ,r5: pinga. As in,"Mama, la pinga!" Heard that a LOT growing up in Hialeah in the early sixties. I'm female, btw. Might I add that I never met any "black" Cubans living in Hialeah. A majority of the Cuban immigrants opened businesses and owned their homes. They couldn't have all been rich. They got a lot of help from the U.S gov. Meanwhile, back in Liberty City, American negroes lived in wooden shacks, walked on wooden sidewalks, drove their cars on dirt roads, those who could afford cars, and shopped at a general store for groceries. Lots of bars, liquor stores and churches. Not much else. It was a common perception among both white and black Americans in Miami that the Cuban immigrants were bankrolled by the U.S. government because they were going to "take back Cuba".
Most the hideous squared minded Cubans came to the US right after 1959. Most of them never got to experience Cuba's "Communism". They are just a bunch of seniors pissed off at Fidel Castro for taking away their business or just because they are just awful that way. I'm Cuban, born and raised there. I came here at the age of 20 and I am not a Republican or a Democrat. If anything I'm probably a Progressive Libertarian.
All Cuban-Americans vote Republican so they can keep up with elderly Americans who all vote Republican (according to DL).
Of course it's not true but we can pretend it's true for OP.
They vote Republican so they can be like the military since everyone in the military hates Obama, OP.
I read yhe first 20 posts, some are valid points, some aren't. From what I understand, this has to do with the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Kennedy, a Democrat, backed out of it at the last minute, and the invaision failed. Cubans haven't let that go, 50 years later.
Communism and Republicanism are pretty much the same.
Most Cuban-Americans less than 40 are Democrats and vote Democratic by large majorities.
I am Cuban, white, lesbian, and democrat. I despise Castro and all his revolutionaries. I also beleive cuban replicanism stems from the Bay of Pigs, and it is a misconception to assume democrats in Washington or anywhere approve of Castro. You need to wake up and understand the embargo may have worked 20-30 years ago, but it doesn't anymore; time to move forward. Progress and forward thinking are attributes of the democratic party, something republicans know very little about. Hail to the miami cuban community for evolving and voting for progress.
When I was a little kid in the 60s, I would read Castro jokes in Mad Magazine. Now I'm a 55 year old eldergay, and people are still complaining about Castro.
Allow me to suggest that the embargo strategy doesn't seem to be working.
Many young Cuban-Americans voted Democrat in this week's election.
Young Cubans in Florida are NOT voting Republican. They are sickof that shit.
Besides, even the Castros have evolved a bit in recent years.
And to support lifting the embargo on Cuba now is NOT to endorse Castro. The Soviet Union fell shortly after Gorbachev opened it up to the world. Russians saw that the West was better off and threw the communist bums out. Lifting the embargo would improve conditions for Cubans and the authoritarians would be history in no time.
[quote]MULATO? You're on the DL, honey. We use "BLATINO" here!
But, only for husbears.
Same reason why many Russian Americans side more with Republicans, and even some western Europeans who are now American citizens... The Democratic party sounds too much of what they left behind in their old countries- even more so today.
Do I think Republicans are perfect? Not at all, they really need to move back to Lincoln, and what made Reagan strong- being great communicators, and champions of freedom, and the free market. They need to get off the social issues, as they were never originally part of the Republican party.
Republicans anymore or less racist than Democratic liberals are, and its the extremes on both sides who exhibit racist behavior, though present it differently. On the far right, is is in your face, loud and angry- you'll immediately know where they stand. On the far left it is subtle, and done with a "happy face".
The Democratic party was always the party of slavery, and still is today... Though with a happier face.
The days when GOP politicians would trot down to the Versailles Restaurant in Little Havana, drink cafecito and scream about comunismo, are drawing to an end.
Cubans hate democrats because they only care for the poor and want socialism=communism and I am Cuban so i would know
[quote]The Democratic party was always the party of slavery, and still is today... Though with a happier face.
Do you enjoy your new job at Freedomworks, Freepy?
By the way, President Obama won the Cuban vote in 2012. That old bit of political wisdom just died.
you people are all morons if they want to vote republican they can its there choice. Thats why our system works this way.
