Got some juicy gossip from a friend in LA about this lot when I flew out there a couple of weeks ago.

Jennifer Morrison is nice enough, but it's a case of the lights are on but nobody's home. She's completely controlled by her management team, which is probably a good thing. Shame she was treated so badly when they kicked her off the show, but things got awkward on-set when she and Jesse split up, and he was more more popular with fans. Hugh Laurie was the one who vetoed the whole Cameron/House relationship after the first season. It wasn't that he disliked her at all, just that he wasn't comfortable with the age difference and he didn't feel there was any romantic chemistry there. (His attention was mostly elsewhere, but more on that later.)

I've heard the religious rumour regarding Jesse/Jennifer before. He's quite a devout Catholic, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Scientology crew get their claws into her eventually. She's gullible enough and hungry enough to stay famous.

Omar Epps and his wife are swingers. Other than that he's quite dull.

Robert Sean Leonard is a talented guy, but he's not exactly a joy to be around. He hated having more than a few scenes to work on, and didn't mind telling anyone who would listen that he was only there for the money. They tried to play up that he and Hugh were great friends for the press, but he wasn't really that close to anyone. I don't suppose it helped that he was a recovering alcoholic, and the crew as well as the lead were constantly drunk. (In fact there was a unfair dismissal lawsuit doing the rounds a couple of years ago from a member of the crew who refused to go to strip joints and get drunk like everybody else. Conveniently it disappeared.)

Lisa Edelstein is an interesting one. Obviously she calmed down in some areas from her Club Kid days (drugs and alcohol), but she was still fucking around like crazy while she was on the show. Usually much younger guys, who she could get rid of when she felt like it. Often she had several on the go at once. The woman's a Class A cougar. I also heard years ago that she nailed Josh Charles and Sorkin in her 'Sports Night' days. No idea if that's true, but my friend said her and Sorkin were all over each other when the 'House' and 'Studio 60' actors happened to be doing photo shoots at the same time. Like Leonard, she got the part through Bryan Singer.

The really interesting thing about her here is how close she and Hugh Laurie were from the get-go. She was the one they called in (even when she wasn't filming) when he was in such a depressive state, the crew couldn They more or less clicked from when they met in Vancouver to film the Pilot and leaned on each other professionally and emotionally right up until the shit hit the fan when they found out wacko fans had been hacking her email account and those of almost all the crew for years. (Before it came to light, stalkers were basically leaking her private details to the press. On at least one occasion she went to Laurie to help her kill the stuff that was being printed about her, which he did, including having people fired.) Anyway the loony fans sent the paps to the Malibu Beach where they were filming, and they ended up photographing them with their tongues down each other's throats. The only problem was that that wasn't part of the script, which had already been leaked earlier. As a result they had to backtrack like crazy, ditch the non-medical parts of the episode they'd filmed and find the easiest possible way to finish the House/Cuddy relationship without provoking further suspicions. As someone who'd been caught out having an affair by the press before, Laurie completely freaked out. The network didn't want their star caught up in a scandal either so they sent the orders to play down Cuddy's role, so they could ultimately lowball Edelstein when negotiations came about and force her out. As all this was going on, she'd thrown herself into a relationship with a separated artist that got serious quickly, and things on-set got all the more strained between her and Laurie.

I saw her getting some fresh juice from a juice joint on E9th St. in East Village some weeks ago. She was with some young dude.

The ironic thing is my friend doesn't think they actually slept together, which is hilarious considering the reps they both had for sleeping around. Sure there was a lot of heavy petting that you wouldn't expect from people who were just friends, but unless they were exceptionally discreet about it, to his knowledge they never allowed it to go further than that. He did say the sexual tension between them was often ridiculous though, but it was more than that. They just liked each other's company and had a lot in common. For the past 20+ years he's basically stayed out of a sense of obligation to her and the kids, and because she's stuck by him in spite of his affairs and then the hookers when he moved to LA. Personally, I don't think she's the dumped upon spouse she'd probably have people believe. There are perks to being married to someone with that much $$$$$. One day he might grow a pair of balls and officially leave her.

The guy drinks heavily too. We're not talking the odd binge on a weekend either, but more along the lines of high-functioning alcoholic. He's admitted in interviews that it's the only thing that can lift his mood, and I'd imagine for someone who finds being in the limelight so difficult, it must help him deal with his shyness. It's a tragedy he'll probably end up drinking himself to death.

There were a couple of blind items that pointed to him being into S&M a couple of years ago. No idea if that's true, but the House showrunners did arrange boxing lessons for him to help deal with his depression, so he had no issue with being slapped around. Also he went to Eton, and those English public schoolboys are so fucking kinky. I would not be surprised!

No idea if anybody is interested in this, but I saw someone dishing the dirt on this thread the other day, and thought I'd dive in after a random gossip with a friend earlier. Anyway she told me Lisa Edelstein is getting married to that artist guy she's with (Robert Russell). You'd think it'd be a cause for celebration, right? Wrong! My friend was actually really uneasy about it. She knows Lisa (primarily through a much closer friend), and she's fond of the woman, but she does have a tendency to bury her head in the sand as far as the men she gets serious with. At one point she was prepared to give up the big bucks on House and run off to Italy with one of her exes, because he didn't like the attention she got being famous. Thankfully it never happened.

Aside from that, something about this Russell dude stinks. There's an issue with when he and Lisa actually got together, and there's always been talk that he was still officially with his ex-wife at the time. Not only did he end up walking out on her, but his two really young kids as well. So ok. Shit happens. Marriages break up etc, but then my friend started to tell me how Lisa has done nothing but plug his art career for the past few years. She stopped going to TV events and went to exhibitions with him instead, all the while using her contacts to get his work some recognition, and neglecting her own career in the process. Embarrassingly she even started plugging his work on Twitter and asking other people to do the same, but it backfired because no-one was fucking interested and followers started to drop off. Since she's been with him there's been a change in her, personality wise, and even in terms of what she wears. She's much more guarded generally, and that's the main thing that bothered my friend: she's not quite the same bubbly Lisa she used to know. To top it off, there's been talk that Russell has a habit of playing the overly devoted fiancé when she's about, and then is a little too 'charming' with other women when she's not. Hardly surprising when he probably did the same with his ex.

It's all kind of sad. I don't know her personally, but in spite of her Club Kid rep, she's meant to be lovely and too loyal for her own good. From the stuff I've heard about her past, she really is ripe to be taken advantage of, and all the crap when she left House hit her hard. Hope she sees sense and/or has a good pre-nup in place.

Jesse Spencer was the only reason I watched HOUSE. I found the character of House so reprehensible, I quit the show when I figured out that Jesse was written out/marginalized. I can't think of a more suit-ruined show in TV history than House, after they brought on Taub, 13, etc.

Used to be a big fan of the show, and I always knew there was something fishy about them canning the original S7 premiere and those pics taken on Redondo Beach. There was a ton of backtracking, mainly by Lisa Edelstein in interviews, saying they were filming when the showrunner, David Shore, had already said the pictures were of them 'relaxing in between scenes.' All the while Hugh was virtually nowhere to be seen. What a clusterfuck! It's predictably crap that the woman ultimately became the fall guy there. I read an article about the lawsuit someone else mentioned before, and the set sounded gross. Wouldn't be surprised about the hacking either. Edelstein has some weird stans as well. They'd clap if she so much as farted.

Jesse Spencer was never written out. He was there until the end. There was a season when House got some new interns that he was rarely used. But then House hires him back and he's part of the team again.

Thirteen was the least watchable character on that series. The new team should have included Cutthroat Bitch Amber.

I liked Amber Tamblyn's genius character. She was a great adversary for House. Hideous wardrobe, though. I'm glad to see Tarantino has taken an interest in Tamblyn.

The last season was dull. Dr. Park was an interesting character but Charlyne Yi was very bad.

I think the bad wardrobe for Amber Tamblyn was deliberate.

In my opinion Shorez and Co. did the character of Cuddy a huge disservice to bring her from the background of the show into the foreground. The more screentime she got and the more I knew about her, the more insufferable she got.

Bringing Cuddy's character to the fore wasn't the problem. In fact Edelstein being prepared to put more work in was solving the problem of Leonard wanting to work as little as possible. They'd have had the same issue with any realistic love interest, because the writers couldn't write romantic or platonic relationships without resorting to the same lazy 'People don't change' shit that conveniently let them off writing anything other than the same repetitive crap year after year. The one liners could be great, but the coherence of the storylines were all over the place the longer the show went on, mainly because the showrunners couldn't be bothered to put together a show Bible. People really have no idea how much 'House' was being carried by Laurie and the rest of the cast, but especially Leonard and Edelstein.

Still the writers weren't the only ones to blame. House and Cuddy were actually meant to get together long before they did, but Fox kept on stepping in to draw the whole thing out. The show itself lasted about 2 or 3 years longer than it should have done anyway, but $$$$ is King.

Greg Yaitaines, showrunner and all round smug bastard, dumped his wife and hooked up with an actress who was an extra on the show.

There's been rumours about the Jacobs/Laurie thing for a long time. Not sure if it happened, but there was a 'situation' back in S3 where they had to halt production so he could rush back home to deal with a 'personal matter'. The gossip at the time was that certain papers were about to out him over his indiscretions and he'd gone home to meet with his lawyers to cut a begrudging deal with said papers, i.e. they'd get exclusives in return for not poking too deeply into his private life. It's really funny because he bitches about the Daily Mail all the time, but his team obviously use the paper to falsely report things such as his family moving over to LA when they quite clearly didn't, and to leak where he and his wife are at a certain time so they can be papped together. It doesn't matter that they almost always look miserable together, as long as what people see resembles a marriage, rather than the friendship/arrangement that it really is.

I pity Laurie to be honest. He's petrified of being outed in the same way he was after his affair with the director woman back in the 90's. It was particularly humiliating, because what he'd told her about his wife making him feel sexually inadequate, and then the letter Jo wrote to the affair begging her to stay away from him were both leaked to the press. Almost all kids who are sent to public boarding schools end up with Mommy issues. It's the same in Britain and the US. Sending your children away to live somewhere else when they're so small incubates so many attachment issues in the future. It doesn't help that so many of these places are brimming with physical and sexual abuse, especially in the past. I'm sure his best friend, Stephen Fry, wrote something about being abused in his autobiography, and about how normal it seemed at the time. Really disturbing stuff.

In relation to his Mom, I think Laurie has mentioned something about always sensing she didn't like him, but his siblings swear he was the one who got the preferential treatment as the youngest. I believe she died of quite a severe illness. He always lauds his Dad though as having been a nice guy, perhaps because he relates better to men.

Linking all this back to his marriage, I guess he doesn't leave his wife, at least partially, because he knows she won't leave him. For someone so insecure that's maybe reassuring. Unfortunately his relationship probably feeds his depression.

Foul set and horribly overrated writers/directors, but if you think the rabid stalkers didn't have an effect on the downfall of the show, you're underestimating how much financial damage they caused by forcing scenes to be re-written and re-filmed. Each episode used to cost around $5 million to shoot. The budget was already bloated because of actor's salaries by that point in the series, and losses had to be recouped, therefore they targeted certain actors with paycuts when contracts were being renegotiated at the end of Season 7. Omar accepted more or less straight away, Jesse took several weeks and then agreed, but after the invasion of her privacy and where the writers had been forced to take Cuddy's storyline, it was the final straw for Lisa and she walked.

It's a shame the lunatics that did this couldn't be prosecuted because of a legal technicality. They could and should have been sued for the psychological distress caused, but it was easier to sweep things under the carpet, rather than draw further attention to what was already a huge, fucking mess.

I'm not condoning it by any means, but other shows with similar problems handled crazed fans differently.

Shonda Rhimes and Grey's Anatomy is one example. I know she has her own issues, but they kept the lid on the fans for the most part, especially regarding writing leaks.

Lack of leadership killed that show. A strong showrunner (with executive backing) would have nipped a lot of this shit in the bud.

Hell, even a good director, like Tim Van Patten or Clark Johnson might have made a difference.

They also gave Laurie too much creative power. I'm not a David Chase fan, but he really managed Gandolfini well, and he had more personal problems than Laurie.

Sometimes, when I read Lisa's interviews since leaving House. I get the feeling Lisa edelstein is a very bitter about House MD and Hugh Laurie.

Sure, all shows usually have problems with leaks and difficult fans, but this was something else. You can protect your actors from stalkers on-set. You can even take measures against employees who leak scripts etc, (which did happen) but there's very little you can do to safeguard from lunatics who go so far as to pay professional hackers. These people make a living out accessing the details of corporate firms, so you have no idea it's even happening until it's way too late. There were serious problems on that set, but here the blame here lies firmly with the few insanely obsessive fans. The whole thing had a catastrophic domino effect.

Laurie was always a double-edged sword. There's absolutely no way the show would have gotten off the ground without him, but it meant they had to work around him as well. It wasn't necessarily that he had too much control, but the fact he's not a trained actor became an issue early on. He was already struggling with the limp and the American accent, so the showrunners decided to go with storylines that sailed rather close to reality, such as House using hookers and utilising the real chemistry between Hugh and Lisa.

Hugh Laurie is amazing, he's the perfect English actor.

Not an average audition process at all, but Singer's anything but conventional.

Speaking of The West Wing, a friend who used to work for the Enquirer told me they'd had a tip from a member of the public about a drunken Aaron Sorkin loudly and graphically telling a male companion in a hotel bar about the hookup he'd recently had with Lisa. This wasn't back when they worked together. This was about halfway through her run on House. I wasn't even slightly surprised to hear they're both into role play.

Ratings wise it used to be the most watched show in the World. Aptly it limped to the finish in terms of viewers. Quality-wise it was very mixed. Genuinely profound stuff side by side with thinly veiled wish fulfilment for the writers.

The real animosity between them started after she left and neglected to tell him she was going, which felt like a huge betrayal because they used to be extremely close. Jesse Spencer: Even better looking in person. (My cousin knew I had a crush on him). Genuinely nice guy. Bi. He has relationships with women and occasional hook ups with guys which he keeps quiet to keep his career on track, and because he's Catholic and wants the whole marriage and kids thing eventually. Kind of traditional in his outlook.

Olivia Wilde: Not as big a bitch as other people would have you believe, but completely divorced from reality because of her upbringing. Smart though, even if she's never going to be Meryl Streep. A bit fucked up by her marriage to Ruspoli. Allegedly he was a manipulative asshole.

Omar Epps: Sweet, but DULL, DULL, DULL!

Jennifer Morrison: One of those actresses who's the perfect combo of pretty, stupid and willing to do whatever she's told by her manager/publicists, including bearding. Didn't miss her character, but that's not cool.

Robert Sean Leonard: Funny guy, but the grumpiest motherfucker on the planet most of the time. Former alcoholic as well. How does divorce work in the UK? Does cheating factor into the size of the settlement ? In California we have no fault divorce and property is split 50/50, doesn't matter who the asshole was. I would think the Lauries have enough money to go around. Of course some men don't like to give any money up even if they'd still have more than they can spend.

A lot of House/Hugh Laurie fans are very enamored with the idea of his marriage. They are very protective of it and lash out online at anyone they think might be a threat.
