Have any of you served time in prison?

Not an overnight stay in the county jail. Prison.%0D %0D My brother served 5 years in Texas, for rape.%0D He hasn't shared much about his time, except to say that it was incredibly boring and he could never let his guard down.%0D %0D He claims not to have been raped although he was only 21 went he went in, and good-looking.%0D %0D Is it possible to relax in prison? To have a trusting relationship with another prison?

by Anonymousreply 69August 29, 2020 7:52 PM

I meant prisoner, not prison, of course.

by Anonymousreply 1August 20, 2010 7:10 AM

Bump for what will be an interesting thread.

by Anonymousreply 2August 20, 2010 7:17 AM

I agree, it would be very interesting as a thread, but given people were reluctant to put up information about their job and earnings for fear of trolldar being used to gather information, I doubt many will wish to reply to this.

by Anonymousreply 3August 20, 2010 7:25 AM

My sister spent a few months in some kind of incarceration. She wrote me the only letter I have ever gotten from her. She had an OK time. For the one and only time in her life she was on a schedule and it did seem to make her more lucid. She is a total flake and was diagnosed with mild schizo, narcissism, histrionics and some other PD. Of course as soon as she got out she flaked out again but it seemed to be a nice rest for her. She said people there were nice enough. It wasn't some horrible third world place or anything. She had to pay them so much a week and she was pissed about that. Bad enough to have to be there without having to pay.

by Anonymousreply 4August 20, 2010 7:51 AM

[quote]She had an OK time.

by Anonymousreply 5August 20, 2010 8:06 AM

>>Is it possible to relax in prison? To have a trusting relationship with another prison?%0D %0D %0D %0D Your brother told you no. So why do you ask?

by Anonymousreply 6August 20, 2010 8:35 AM

Don't know why people would hesitate to share, prison time is of public record. It's not like you can exactly hide that.%0D %0D Never been to prison here but looking forward to stories.

by Anonymousreply 7August 20, 2010 8:58 AM

Because, r6, the OP is smart enough to realize that not everyone's experience is identical.

by Anonymousreply 8August 20, 2010 9:59 AM

OP, how old was your brother's victim?

by Anonymousreply 9August 20, 2010 11:11 AM

To answer OP's questions: No and No.

by Anonymousreply 10August 20, 2010 11:40 AM

Whatchu do, OP?!!

by Anonymousreply 11August 20, 2010 12:18 PM

I'd kill myself before going to prison. Seriously wouldn't even give it a second thought - I'd rather be dead.

by Anonymousreply 12August 20, 2010 12:34 PM

I've never been in prison. A friend of mine went to a low security prison for selling prescriptions.(He was a doc) He's not a bad sort, but was a big drug user himself. He actually came out of prison looking healthier than he had going in. He complained that he couldn't even get laid in prison. I think it wasn't a terrible damaging experience, though he'll never have his former life back for worse or better.%0D %0D I've known a few others who went to prison for drug related activities or embezzling, but I never pressed them for details.%0D %0D I'm always surprised by how many people I know have relatives in prison. The Prison Industry is big business in this country.

by Anonymousreply 13August 20, 2010 12:50 PM

I can't imagine having trust in prison.

by Anonymousreply 14August 20, 2010 3:49 PM

i sometimes come across some documentary about prison life and relationships in MSNBC. they followed up a gay relationship and how they manage in prison.the slutty ones can really hook up easily in prison especially when they are moved from one cell to another.

by Anonymousreply 15August 20, 2010 4:05 PM

An incredibly cute blond male nurse (now long dead of AIDS, bless his soul) once told me this funny story.

He had signed up to do a short term contract at a prison hospital. On his first day he arrived at the gate, and the guard, after checking his details, buzzed him in.

To get to the hospital he had to walk down a 100 yard path that bisected a prison exercise yard, and which was mesh wired both sides.

He said he'd only walked about 10 feet into the yard when one of the guys across the yard who was exercising spotted him and yelled "HEY SPUNK!!!!" In no time at all dozens of men had come up to the pathway fence and pushed their faces into the wire, and mouthing at him "I WANT FUCK YOUR ASS SO BAD" etc etc, tongues licking their faces. He told me he just kept his head down and kept on walking, but had never felt so desired -- especially as some of them had incredible workout bodies. He finally got to the other end where an old guard slowly unlocked the gate ignoring the "YOUR ASS IS MA ICE CREAM!" cacophony, and as he did so drawled: "I think they're talkin' to you, son"

by Anonymousreply 16August 20, 2010 4:14 PM

lol, R16!

by Anonymousreply 17August 20, 2010 4:26 PM

I've known a guy now for over 30 years, whom I first had as a pen-pal when he was in prison in Florida for fraud (bad checks). He was in his early 20's, cute and blonde, actually quite intelligent, and quickly adapted to being "kept" by an older prisoner in exchange for protection from rape.

He was actually kind of on the shy side, and I strongly suspect that he was actually kind of fond of the attention he got from the inmates, as R16 illustrated. I suspect that is part of the reason (laziness is the rest of it) why he kept coming up with one illegal scheme after another, and ended up in jail most of the time for the next decade. When he got out, he lived with his grandmother, who got him involved in her church group, and he started seeing a girl there. He finished his associates degree (started in prison) and became an RN. They got married, but it didn't last, and he fell back into his same old patterns and ended up in jail again about five years later. He's been in and out ever since, currently in a state prison in FL (at age 56) for insurance fraud.

by Anonymousreply 18August 20, 2010 4:44 PM

Did your brother do it, OP?%0D %0D 5 yrs for rape sounds way too lenient.

by Anonymousreply 19August 20, 2010 4:47 PM

R18.. your verbose post is useless without pictures.

by Anonymousreply 20August 20, 2010 4:50 PM

Here's a bit of interesting prison news!

by Anonymousreply 21August 20, 2010 4:51 PM

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 22August 20, 2010 4:58 PM

At first glance, I thought the post was "Have any of you served lamb in prison?"

by Anonymousreply 23August 20, 2010 5:05 PM

My brother went to prison for involuntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 12 years and had to serve 1/4 of his time (1985 in SC). He served 1 year in maximum security, one year minus good behavior in a work release center and 1 year minus good behavior at the local prison camp. He actually served about 2.5 years.%0D %0D When he first went in, he went with a guy he knew from our hometown and he was placed in an area with other guys from our town. They looked out for each other. He shaved his head and took on a rough look when he first got there and said it kept the inmates from getting frisky. He was very tall and thin and the first time we saw him, his pants were too short and his shirt was too big and it was horrible.%0D %0D We had to send money each week, visited every other week, and had to send his clothes, shoes etc. He had to buy his own deoderant, toothpaste, and snacks. %0D %0D He didn't get a tatoo because he said he didn't want to bring home anything he didn't take in with him. He did his time, found a job thru the work release center and went on with his life once he got out. It wasn't a great situation but it was survivable because of the hometown buddies. I think having them there made a big difference for him. %0D %0D They had a riot when he was there and the stories he told about that were tough. I'm glad I didn't know what was going then until it was over.

by Anonymousreply 24August 20, 2010 5:07 PM

My fave joke.

A guy enters a cell for the first time. His cellmate is a huge fat ugly thug. Come dusk, thug says:

"There's a game we play here... called Mummies and Daddies. So which would you like to be: the Mummy, or the Daddy?"

Blanching, new inmate considers the options, and in quavering voice replies: "Um, I think I'll be the daddy."

Thug replies: "Right then. Get over here on yer knees and suck Mummy's cock."

by Anonymousreply 25August 21, 2010 11:14 AM

He was very tall and thin and the first time we saw him, his pants were too short and his shirt was too big and it was horrible.

Who are you, Rachel Zoe?

by Anonymousreply 26August 21, 2010 11:20 AM

Imagine living every day for years in an 8 x 6 cell with two metal bunks, a toilet/sink combo, and a smelly, obnoxious cellmate who never shuts up. Shitting and showering in front of the world. Institutional food 3 times a day. Being hustled constantly for food, sex, money, possessions, or any other kind of favor imaginable. Strip searches.

Relax? Maybe if you were comatose.

by Anonymousreply 27August 21, 2010 12:28 PM

My brother was in jail for six months after his second DUI. When he got out, he never drank again. Never.

by Anonymousreply 28August 21, 2010 3:23 PM

I work in a cubicle. It's like jail with nightly parole.

by Anonymousreply 29August 21, 2010 3:36 PM

I worked in a prison as a volunteer. This was medium-security in Massachusetts and it was tolerable. A lot of the guys formed cliques by hometown or nationality (a lot of Haitians).

If you're on your way in, I recommend the book YOU ARE GOING TO PRISON, which is a "travel guide" for the unprepared. It was the basis of the under-appreciated film LET'S GO TO PRISON.

My cousin's husband (white guy) spent time in Arpaio's tent city in Phoenix.

He was a pretty big guy -- so I dont know if he was raped or not. I kind of doubt it. Visited him a few times while he was there for a year. I didn't get a lot of the details, except the little bags guys would use to masturbate %C3%A2%C2%80%C2%94 handtowel cones with ziploc bags inside them and lotion inside the ziploc bag, or something like that.

Tent City was hot as balls, as would be expected.

by Anonymousreply 31August 21, 2010 4:06 PM

Your brother might not have been raped,OP, but it doesn't mean he didn't have sex.

by Anonymousreply 32August 21, 2010 11:47 PM

Are there websites with pictures of inmates at penitentiaries?

by Anonymousreply 33August 22, 2010 1:32 AM

r33, ask Momma. Those sites get her mussy drooling more than a St. Bernard's jowls!

by Anonymousreply 34August 22, 2010 1:44 AM

My partner did almost twelve years in state, plus parole. Plus some time on Rikers Island before that. He was still on parole when we met.

by Anonymousreply 35August 22, 2010 1:53 AM

OP here, my brother was sentenced to 15 years, IIRC, but got out in 5 for good behavior. %0D %0D The circumstances of his arrest were these: he was dating a married woman and she ended the affair. He wasn't happy about that.%0D %0D He got drunk one night and climbed into her bed, forced himself on her. She called the police.%0D %0D Brother told me that his prison guards said that if he allowed himself to be raped by other prisoners, the guards themselves would beat my brother.%0D

by Anonymousreply 36August 22, 2010 4:27 AM

A trusting relationship with a prisoner? Please. My cousin served time for bank robbery and for participating in a car theft ring ("chop shop". He's out now....prison must have scared the crap out of him because he won't even considering crossing the road without being in a crosswalk.

by Anonymousreply 37August 22, 2010 4:35 AM

[quote]He got drunk one night, broke into her house and raped her. %0D %0D Fixed that for you.

by Anonymousreply 38August 22, 2010 5:18 AM

I love r38.

by Anonymousreply 39August 22, 2010 5:25 AM

I find R38 to be tedious. OP stated in his opening post that his brother went to prison for rape. His post at R36 gave some details of the rape. OP never hid what his brother did.

by Anonymousreply 40August 22, 2010 5:30 AM

Read the book called "Fish", it is about prison life. I think it is called "Fish".

by Anonymousreply 41August 22, 2010 5:31 AM

Does that idiot at R20 have to leave a turd in every thread? It's like the bedbug infestation of the DL.

by Anonymousreply 42August 22, 2010 5:51 AM

Yes it is called "Fish".

by Anonymousreply 43August 22, 2010 5:55 AM

r40 I find you tedious and possibly illiterate. r36 never uses the word rape in his post except to mention about the guard.

by Anonymousreply 44August 22, 2010 5:57 AM

Okay...here goes. I went to prison to serve a 7 year sentence in 2001; I was released in 2008 after serving all of my time. As a gay man, who was 54 at the time of incarceration, it was sort of fun. I had money in my commissary account and would sometimes pay for sex with younger inmates (I'm not all that bad looking for a geezer). Mostly it was just boring...not scary...just boring. I gained a lot of weight because all I did was eat and go to medical appointments. I met some really nice people while inside; some I still keep in touch with. Not all prisoners are stupid and thuggish. Quite the contrary. I was locked up in one unit with an ex-Doctor, a Pediatrician who was gay and couldn't keep his hands off of young boys; several ex-nurses; lawyers; a one time airline pilot; and just plane folks who fucked up and got caught (As did I). As I had a Master's in Computer Science when I went in, I would help those who were functionally illiterate learn to read and write better. All-in-all, it wasn't what is sometimes portrayed on TV. The younger guys usually stuck with their "Homeboys," and us old timers usually stayed with our own kind (Except for the ocassional blow job I would give/get from willing participants). I would NEVER AGAIN do what I did to get locked up, but it wasn't all that bad. One funny story...then I'll shut up and go to bed...at my last unit there was this drop dead gorgeous 21 y/o white guy who went by the nickname "Slick Rick" largely due to his habit of going into the showers and removing all of the hair from his body. Rick would always have an erection which none of the guys really talked about (Except for the gay men like myself who would drool over him). Rick professed to being straight and would spurn any homosexual advances. I asked Rick to let me suck him off...to which he usually replied that he didn't "Go that way." I'm not proud of this, but I found out that Rick's people cut him off from sending him money for commissary (Which is a very looked forward to occassion buying "Free World" food and taking it back to the cell). I was very horny one day, and know that commissary would be called for our wing the next day, I approached Rick with a proposition. I told him that I would buy him $75 (Our Spend Limit) worth of commissary if he would let me suck him off. He finally gave in and I did the deed (He came in buckets!). After that instance, it became a regular weekly thing...I'd buy him stuff...he would give up some dick. One night Rick and his homeboys were drinking some home made wine that they had made from smuggled ingrediants. Rick was wasted and came to my cell. I expected him to beg some of my stash of commissary...but instead, he went to the cell door, closed it, and hung a towel over the bars so that no one could see in (This was common when someone had to take a shit or jack off...sort of courtesy to others). Rick wordlessly took off his clothes and laid down on my bunk with his ass in the air. Fuck me was all he said. God...I thought that I had died and gone to heaven. Rick was released to go home a few days later (I suppose with a sore ass hole).

MNBC has a whole series on Friday or Saturday night devoted to the prison world. It is called Look Up Raw.

by Anonymousreply 46August 22, 2010 6:20 AM

WOW! Great story, and great job describing life in the joint. %0D %0D Thanks, R45. You answered all my questions and then some.

by Anonymousreply 47August 22, 2010 6:29 AM

R45, maybe you could buy a paragraph from Pat Sajak.

by Anonymousreply 48August 22, 2010 6:48 AM

All these freaks on DL and only one person has gone to prison?

by Anonymousreply 49August 26, 2010 6:51 AM

I read "Fish." It was pretty good at describing a life of boredom mixed with mind-numbing routine mixed with hairtrigger violence.

by Anonymousreply 50August 26, 2010 7:03 AM

I'm actually not interested in what goes on in prison, as I think most of us have an idea what takes place there.

What really interest me is how a relative feels about a family member who has committed a violent act and is then released from prison. How do you act around a brother who was convicted of rape or a parent convicted of killing another someone.

by Anonymousreply 51August 26, 2010 7:12 AM

Me 2, r39. Sheesh. Interesting stories, though.

by Anonymousreply 52August 26, 2010 7:24 AM

I've been to prison but I've never been to me.

by Anonymousreply 53August 26, 2010 9:39 AM

[quote]All these freaks on DL and only one person has gone to prison?

I once watched the entire "OZ" series on DVD, does that count?

I find you to be a fucking moron.

R38 was replying to R36.

by Anonymousreply 57March 2, 2015 5:25 PM

I had a relative who served time. He deserved it, but hoodwinked the rest of his family into believing he was some wide-eyed innocent who fell off the turnip truck and into an entrapment situation.

Anyway, he lost his disability when he was sent to prison and his mama paid his mortgage. He was always the baby of the family and continued to act like the baby in jail. He was chastising everyone, telling them they must write to the warden and the governor because he was not being treated well. Surprise! Prison isn't fair! Especially in a red state. The warden told his sister to stop writing and calling or her brother was going to suffer.

His mother aged 30 years because she was trying to hold onto his house (she's 80 and has very little money) and give him money for snacks because he's a fat slob who didn't like the prison food. My mother was always sending him money and magazine and newspaper subscriptions. He complained all the time about everything. The food, the fact that he had to pay board, the fact that he had to pay for medicine, the fact that they would only give him Tylenol or Advil for pain and not Vicodin or percocet, the fact that he couldn't smoke. His mother and my mother were always wailing about the poor baby. I said, "Don't even tell me about his complaints. Because I have only one thing to say. Don't break the law and you won't ever have to worry about these things."

The idiot went to lawyers when he got out of jail, trying to sue the state. The lawyers basically told him what I said. "You can fool the old ladies in your family but you don't fool us. Don't break the law and you won't go to prison and be treated unfairly. Now get lost."

BTW, he and his whole family are Fox News addicts, but that's typical. Everybody else is a criminal and deserves to have the book thrown at them, but not me! Not my baby! He just made a mistake is all. And his rights were violated, which is wrong. It is, however, ok to violate the rights of others in prison because they're guilty. He's not. He just had a misunderstanding and made a mistake which resulted in somebody somehow putting underage porn on his laptop.

by Anonymousreply 58March 2, 2015 5:48 PM

I had the time of my life in prison. I'm a sex addict and it was the best fucking I ever experienced. To be used and abused and dominated by so many bustling hot strong men was pure exctasy. I cried on those cocks that's how good the sex was. Eventually I settled on a single fuck buddy who was also my protector. Also I realized I would eventually catch something. Would I want to spend the rest of my life there, of course not. But I made the best if it, came out, and became the insatiable slutty bottom daddy would have never imagined.

Fyi- Had my first anal orgasm in a DP.

by Anonymousreply 59June 17, 2016 11:09 AM

A good friend of mine went in for a few months. All he had to say was that it was really boring, that there was too much cement and that he was surrounded by fuckwits (from both sides).

by Anonymousreply 60June 17, 2016 11:35 AM

Attica is a men's prison.

I was there a year before they found out I didn't belong.

by Anonymousreply 61August 29, 2020 2:12 AM

Suspicious bump of a four year old thread by R61...

by Anonymousreply 62August 29, 2020 2:21 AM

^ Who cares?

I wanted prison stories so I DID A SEARCH instead of starting a new thread.

What's with you silly queens about bumping old threads? I bet if I started a new thread you'd be screeching if it would've KILLED ME TO DO A SEARCH.

by Anonymousreply 63August 29, 2020 2:24 AM

[quote] At first glance, I thought the post was "Have any of you served lamb in prison?"

by Anonymousreply 64August 29, 2020 2:25 AM

Why did she have to pay "them" money for being in prison R4?

by Anonymousreply 65August 29, 2020 2:29 AM

Oh damn. R4's post was from 10 years ago. I guess I will never know the answer now...

Damn.

by Anonymousreply 66August 29, 2020 2:31 AM

Two nights, that was plenty. Realized how much freedom I take for granted. and how corrupt / unfair the “justice” system is. Eye opening.

by Anonymousreply 67August 29, 2020 4:15 AM

^ What injustice ocurred that resulted in you spending two nights in jail (i don't think you meant actual prison)?

by Anonymousreply 68August 29, 2020 6:15 PM

I had 2 DUIs but kept my job and couldn't do my 285 hours of community service, so they violated me. Got assigned to kitchen detail working the freezer. It was actually pretty cool, because I would were a thick jacket and go back into the freezer to pull out food, but didn't have to do any prep work.

After I got out, I volunteered in jail and prison with AA. The Jail had a "homo" dorm and those guys scored pretty regularly. I was in GP and there wasn't any sex. But lots of games.

When I started going to prisons, I was surprised at how the prisoner's attitudes were so different from the jailers. TBH, they actually tended to be smarter and more grounded than the jail goons who got busted for stupid shit.
