Male celebs who have hair plugs or toupees

Who are they?%0D %0D %0D %0D I've heard both McBongo and Mel Gibson have plugs

I don't think Jon Hamm wears a toupee, how would they put all the Brylcream in it for Mad Men?

by Anonymousreply 18August 19, 2010 10:10 PM

I also thought Charlie Sheen wears a toupee. Too much hair upfront and no hairline.

by Anonymousreply 21August 19, 2010 10:39 PM

R16, it is not a matter of 'hearing' it.%0D %0D It is a matter of looking at the person, and seeing that they wear a hair piece.%0D %0D I'm always shocked at how many men cannot discern a hair piece on other men.%0D %0D (especially on Datalounge)

by Anonymousreply 22August 19, 2010 11:29 PM

Shatner!

by Anonymousreply 23August 19, 2010 11:55 PM

What exactly is the key to discerning a hair piece?

Patrick Stewart!

by Anonymousreply 25August 20, 2010 12:06 AM

Liverpool played tonight and here's a tasty fan pic of Nando.

Don't know what's better, the torso or what's happening down in the shorts.

Having said all that, I think Nando's lovely new big muscles are hurting his pace. He really should shed 2-3 kilos at least. I thought he looked a little bit bigger during the WC. Granted he was unfit and it wouldn't have helped anyway, but a slightly lighter Nando will speed his return to form.

Oops, wrong fucking thread! Nevermind.

by Anonymousreply 27August 20, 2010 1:48 AM

Kevin Costner gets his hair from a now-retired wig/toupe maker in New Orleans. Has done so for many years.

by Anonymousreply 28August 20, 2010 2:39 AM

Some of these replies are dubious.

Martin doesn't wear a toupee.

While I would say that Meloni needs one, he doesn't wear one either. Hell, he's nearly bald. If you doubt it, turn on BBC right now (ET).

by Anonymousreply 29August 20, 2010 2:50 AM

Martin who, R29?%0D %0D Kevin Costner does not wear a hair piece! He does appear to have maybe gotten hair plugs though. %0D %0D He is an extremely handsome man - especially for his age.(not that he is old because he is not) He looks sexy and fantastic.

by Anonymousreply 30August 20, 2010 3:01 AM

What do we think about Enrique Iglesias' weave? I think the pretty face distracts from it.

If Ricky has plugs he got some really good work done.

by Anonymousreply 31August 20, 2010 3:13 AM

Ricky Martin wears a hair piece. It has been very obvious for quite a number of years. He may also have some hair plugs%0D %0D Enrique Iglesias' wears a wig. I don't really like the wig or weave he has right now. He had a more natural looking one previously. Bue I enjoy Enrique's performances and his music.

by Anonymousreply 32August 20, 2010 3:21 AM

R32 Not apparent to me. Or to R31, evidently.

by Anonymousreply 33August 20, 2010 3:35 AM

r32 I don't believe Ricky wears a piece. Enrique's hair is different but it looks really good. He actually had the hair styled instead of just dropping it on his head out the box.

by Anonymousreply 34August 20, 2010 3:37 AM

I've seen Ricky up close numerous times at his live concerts from the front rows, and in lots of photos and live appearances.%0D %0D His hair pieces could not be more apparent.%0D %0D You just haven't been looking.

by Anonymousreply 35August 20, 2010 3:41 AM

That's exactly what I mean. Quite a few men on Datalounge are completely unable to discern hair pieces and do not observe closely enough to even notice.

by Anonymousreply 36August 20, 2010 3:44 AM

Ricky wore a very obvious large hair piece during his concert tour where he had the stage full of a large number of dancers with him thruout the whole concert - was that 2006 or 2007?%0D %0D He wears many variations of hair pieces over the years.%0D %0D I think he has also been getting hair plugs.%0D %0D He has a bald spot in back and on top, and receding front hair line.%0D

by Anonymousreply 37August 20, 2010 3:54 AM

%0D Some pretty ropey info here on the toupee front. I thought gay men were supposed to be into aesthetics and cosmetics!%0D %0D Piven - yes, open secret%0D %0D McConaughey - yes, occasionally spotted without it. The magnificent mane on film is fake.%0D %0D Travolta - yes, photographed without it and also with his toupee base showing%0D %0D Brendan Fraser - yes, caught by a papp without it on a few years back. For off-screen he has (rather scrappy) plugs at the front and wears a hairpiece behind them. On-screen what you see on top is all hairpiece. One of the nicest hairpieces in the business. %0D %0D Kevin James - yes, open secret. Not great quality pieces.%0D %0D Enrique Iglesias - yes, a front partial toupee. The back is his own. Nicely done.%0D %0D Chris Meloni - only on screen and connected public appearances. It is a very conservative piece, which makes him look nearly bald instead of absolutely bald. Subtle.%0D %0D Charlie Sheen - only when working. Cap and thinning forelock the rest of the time. %0D %0D Ben Affleck - He did wear a piece for many years until fairly recently, but was outed in the press. In an attempt to rescue his leading man role he has now had extensive bodyhair transplanting done and has ditched the piece in favour of a military buzz.%0D %0D Gary Sinise - yes%0D %0D Dan Abrams - open secret, although he never talks about it. Now wears very nice quality pieces. %0D %0D Jonny Lee Miller - has fairly recently started wearing%0D %0D Thomas Calabro - admitted he wears a crown toupee%0D %0D Jimmy Smits - recently had a wardrobe malfunction when it came loose during filming. Very traumatic.%0D %0D Brad Pitt - no%0D %0D Ricky Martin - no%0D %0D Rob Lowe - no%0D %0D Kevin Costner - no, although he has had plugs%0D %0D %0D %0D %0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 38August 20, 2010 3:58 AM

r36, hunny, I have seen enough weaves, lacefronts, quick weaves, pieces, toupees, and spray ons to know who is faking the funk. 9 out of 10 times it comes down to the hairline, especially with men. If the hairline is consistent then the rest of the hair is probably his. If its hidden, like Enrique, Charlie Sheen and the rest, it's fake.

Ricky has had a consistent hairline up to this point, and he has a tall forehead. The only time I ever thought he might wear piece was when he was on Oprah a few years back, maybe he started getting plugs done then.

His roots:

Rob Lowe definitely wears a hair piece/wig.%0D %0D Brad Pitt definitely has either a hair piece or hair plugs.%0D %0D Ricky Martin definitely has various hair pieces over the years and maybe hair plugs.%0D %0D Kevin Costner has hair plugs.

by Anonymousreply 40August 20, 2010 4:07 AM

Ricky's hairpieces often have had nothing to do with his front hairline, R39.%0D %0D Just like Brendan Fraser does, Ricky Martin sometimes wears his hair piece BEHIND his front hair.

by Anonymousreply 41August 20, 2010 4:09 AM

R39, Ricky does not wear a hair piece when he has a to-the-scalp buzz cut like in the photo you posted.%0D %0D But in previous years, he often wore his hair longer and that's when he has had hair pieces - not with the buzz cuts.

by Anonymousreply 42August 20, 2010 4:12 AM

Some of these guys are good. I'm curious to see what McBongo and Affleck look like naturally.

by Anonymousreply 43August 20, 2010 4:14 AM

[quote]Ricky's hairpieces often have had nothing to do with his front hairline, [R39].

If you cant see it, then it might be fake.

by Anonymousreply 44August 20, 2010 4:17 AM

R43, there have been lots of photos of McBongo without his hair piece - where his balding shows.%0D %0D And Ben Affleck now sports a very short buzz cut - so his hair plugs have been great for him.%0D %0D Enrique Iglesias wore a hat non-stop for several years. Used to drive me nuts - he would not appear in public or on stage without the hat.

by Anonymousreply 45August 20, 2010 4:17 AM

More pictures please! I'd like to learn how to spot these things. (it seems like there must be a website out there devoted to this subject? anyone know of a good one?)

What's-his-face from House, Hugh Laurie, wears a hairpiece to cover his bald spot in the back. For the first couple of seasons he didn't wear anything and the camera operators and editors put in a lot of effort to disguise his bald spot. If you watch season 1 episodes with that in mind it's quite amusing.

So now that all movies and TV are being shot in HD, how are these actors getting away with wigs and weaves? Is it glaringly obvious to those of you who are good at spotting them to begin with?

by Anonymousreply 46August 20, 2010 4:18 AM

Ricky Martin also has a lot of gray hair.%0D %0D At times, he lets it show.%0D %0D But other times, he covers it up with brown hair dye, or has a buzz cut where it doesn't show very much.%0D %0D I adore Ricky as an great entertainer in concert, and I love his music in spanish.

by Anonymousreply 47August 20, 2010 4:25 AM

The stuff about Martin makes no sense at all.

Of you're able to wear your hair in a buzz cut--which allows no possibility of covering thin areas--then you obviously don't need to wear a wig.

Now, he may choose to wear one on stage, but obviously not balding.

by Anonymousreply 48August 20, 2010 4:29 AM

Question for anyone wearing a piece. How often do you have it on? Do you keep it on around the house all day, or just slap that puppy up there when going out in public?

by Anonymousreply 49August 20, 2010 4:31 AM

Trust me, R48, Ricky has been balding for a good number of years.%0D %0D And I have seen the bald spot on the back of his head.%0D %0D You can continue to disbelieve and insist you do not understand.

by Anonymousreply 50August 20, 2010 4:38 AM

Ted Danson wore a piece to cover his bald spot all during the CHEERS years.

Now that he's let himself go silver gray, he only wears it when he's in front of a camera acting; off-screen or in person he doesn't wear it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 51August 20, 2010 4:47 AM

Shoutout to R28, my hometown Balmer. Go 'JZ.

by Anonymousreply 52August 20, 2010 4:52 AM

R28 is wrong. Kevin Coster has hair plugs, but he does not wear a hair piece.

by Anonymousreply 53August 20, 2010 4:57 AM

Well R50 there are tons of candid, unretouched photos of him with a buzz cut. If you can produce one that shows a bald spot, that would prove your point.

Otherwise, I'll "choose to disbelieve."

R29, I've seen Chris Meloni many times and he's completely bald. He weares a toupee when he's filming.

by Anonymousreply 58August 20, 2010 7:19 AM

%0D @R49%0D %0D The modern trend for younger guys is to keep it in place 24/7 for about a week. I take mine off on Thursday night, sleep bald to give my skin a rest, get up early on Friday to reattach, and I am good to go for the weekend. Once it's on I pretty much forget I have it. Mine has a fine lightweight mesh base and a lace front. No one knows I wear except my brother and my hairdresser. %0D %0D Some older guys who take their pieces off every night, but you have to use quite weak tape for that to be practical, and then you risk the embarrassment of it coming off when it's not meant to! %0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 59August 20, 2010 8:59 AM

R57, I fixed your typo for you.

by Anonymousreply 63August 20, 2010 12:01 PM

Actually, I wouldn't mind getting some myself. My high hairline ages me at least ten years.

by Anonymousreply 64August 20, 2010 12:03 PM

Uh, don't even start that fight, R62. Or better yet, let's start a thread for men who've had work done.

by Anonymousreply 71August 20, 2010 4:20 PM

R61, of course, Ricky does not wear a hair piece when he has a buzz cut!!%0D %0D (why it even needs to be pointed out that Ricky does not wear a hair piece when he has a buzz cut is absurd, R61)%0D %0D Ricky went thru a whole bunch of different stages where he wore his hair at various lengths.

by Anonymousreply 72August 20, 2010 4:22 PM

Some wear complete wigs. In the photo at R56, it appears that Brad Pitt is wearing almost a complete wig rather than just a hair piece.%0D %0D Robert Redford wears a wig. He recently got a new one which looks better.%0D %0D Rob Lowe appears to wear a full wig.%0D %0D I still think Enrique Iglesas' previous hairpiece/wig looked better than his new one.

by Anonymousreply 73August 20, 2010 4:25 PM

Doug Davidson who plays Paul on "Young and Restless" wears a hairpiece.%0D %0D He has worn a bunch of different hairpieces combed various ways.

by Anonymousreply 74August 20, 2010 4:51 PM

[quote]While I would say that Meloni needs one, he doesn't wear one either. Hell, he's nearly bald. If you doubt it, turn on BBC right now (ET).

He absolutely does wear a toupee on SVU. In real life he's completely bald. On the show he wears an almost see through toupee. He has no hair (and I mean NONE) on the top of his head.

by Anonymousreply 75August 20, 2010 5:10 PM

@R67

Give me your email and I'll send you a pic. I don't want to post it here in case someone I know recognizes me. I try to keep my little cosmetic secret under wraps as much as possible.

by Anonymousreply 76August 20, 2010 6:44 PM

What about Springsteen?

by Anonymousreply 77August 20, 2010 6:59 PM

Springsteen - does not wear a hair piece

by Anonymousreply 78August 20, 2010 7:06 PM

[quote]I still think Enrique Iglesas' previous hairpiece/wig looked better than his new one.

I love the rooster do he has now, maybe its in bad taste. Rihanna could switch wigs with him and nobody could tell. His feminine features really him pull off this wig nicely.

by Anonymousreply 79August 20, 2010 7:21 PM

Adam Baldwin (not a Baldwin brother) wears a rug on "Chuck". A really cheap one. To the point where it is distracting.

by Anonymousreply 80August 20, 2010 7:32 PM

What makes people think Rob Lowe wears a hairpiece?

by Anonymousreply 81August 20, 2010 7:37 PM

Bill from True Blood. Plugs.

by Anonymousreply 82August 20, 2010 7:52 PM

Anyone else here turned on by the idea of handsome guys like Brendan Fraser or Enrique Iglesias wearing a toupee to preserve their looks? Good looking guys with vanity secrets are a fetish of mine.

by Anonymousreply 83August 20, 2010 7:55 PM

I have it on good authority that Ben Browder and Josh Duhamel are now getting a bit of artificial help up there. Josh Lucas also wears a partial hairpiece behind a genuine hairline which is partly his own, partly plugs.

Enrique's piece is not a great job up close. He never, but never, exposes his hairline - it's always combed down and held there with product. If he is anywhere where the wind could expose his hairline he wears a cap or a bandana. The reason is that his temple points are badly receded, and they are difficult to cover up with a toupee. If his hair were lifted back you would be able to see the lack of side hair, and the artificial nature of his luxuriant fringe would be exposed.

In general, bandanas are frequently a sign of a guy who wears a piece but doesn't want it exposed to the elements or is worried that some sweaty or dirty activity will expose the piece.

by Anonymousreply 84August 20, 2010 8:18 PM

Yes, r83 big time fetish here. Uncovering the things they go through for vanity (bald heads in this case) is kind of weird but it makes me tingly! Nose jobs are another one. They would never tell anyone how much they REALLY want to be pretty deep down inside.

by Anonymousreply 85August 20, 2010 8:20 PM

What about Jon Bon Jovi? Lacefront?

by Anonymousreply 86August 20, 2010 8:22 PM

Ronn Moss's toupee is the absolute worst. Unfortunately, I can't find a current photo. My partner never believes me whenever I tell him so-and-so is wearing a piece, but even he would know Ronn's wearing someone...a raccoon, looks like.

by Anonymousreply 89August 20, 2010 10:25 PM

Ashton Kutcher's hairline was receding...now it isn't...do the math

by Anonymousreply 90August 21, 2010 1:25 AM

Ashton wears his hair all combed forward over the forehead. %0D %0D By combing your hair forward and covering the forehead, it covers up any hairline.

by Anonymousreply 91August 21, 2010 1:49 AM

anyone have plugs? was it worth it? I once watched a show on TV that demonstrated how it was done. It freaked me out!!!!

by Anonymousreply 92August 21, 2010 2:23 AM

Enrique's been pushing his hair forward since he broke big. I always thought it was obvious he's been trying to hide a receding hairline. Showing his real hairline at this point can't look any stranger than that style he's sporting now.

by Anonymousreply 93August 21, 2010 2:49 AM

Donny Osmond sure looks like he is wearing something - his hairline just doesn't look natural.

by Anonymousreply 94August 21, 2010 5:18 AM

More on Jon Hamm, please.%0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 95August 22, 2010 7:20 PM

Michael Jackson was bald under those stupid ugly wigs he wore

by Anonymousreply 96August 23, 2010 1:20 AM

Andre Agassi

by Anonymousreply 97May 11, 2011 9:55 PM

What's going on with Ian Somerholder? Wig or plugs? His hair was receeding back in RULES OF ATTRACTION and now he's sporting long locks on that vampier show.

by Anonymousreply 98May 12, 2011 11:37 AM

R98, When Ian was on Tell Me You Love Me, the hair people were Toppiking the shit out of Ian's hair. The hair guy said, "Poor thing, he'll be bald on top in a few years.".

It's probably a little piece now.

by Anonymousreply 99May 12, 2011 2:48 PM

Thanks R99, I've always known that there was something going on up there. Funny story.

by Anonymousreply 105March 4, 2012 9:30 AM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Harrison Ford. He's had plugs for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 106March 4, 2012 12:26 PM

Scott Bakula has SOMETHING, whether it's plugs, or pieces, or a little of both. His hair is rather obvious, IMO.

by Anonymousreply 107March 4, 2012 12:28 PM

Did Captain Kangaroo sport a rug?

by Anonymousreply 108March 4, 2012 12:50 PM

John Bon Jovi

by Anonymousreply 109June 24, 2012 1:19 AM

You know, I've always worn two simple braids and many have said that is why I haven't gotten a single role in anything. Of course, some say it due to me being ugly and without talent, but no one had said I wear a wig. I have had plugs, but all them were in the ass and there's only naturally moderate hair growth there.

by Anonymousreply 110June 24, 2012 1:54 AM

Ted Danson often goes without his toupee when not playing a role.

by Anonymousreply 111June 24, 2012 2:04 AM

I never considered that Charlie Sheen might be wearing a wig. But you're right, no hairline.

by Anonymousreply 112June 24, 2012 2:08 AM

You guys never agree on anything. I think Brad Pitt has hair and the same with Ricky Martin.

by Anonymousreply 113June 24, 2012 2:13 AM

Harrison Ford got hair plugs about the same time he put in that stupid earring.

by Anonymousreply 114October 29, 2012 10:22 PM

I find it absolutely retarded how people still call them hair plugs... That's not what they are. That technology hasn't been used since the 80's. Now a days it's a straight follicle transplant... Get it right folks!

by Anonymousreply 115February 13, 2014 7:48 PM

Both Donny and Marie must be wearing hairpieces. They have more hair now than they did when they were in their 20s.

by Anonymousreply 116February 13, 2014 7:55 PM

"A nice lookig toupe" is really a moot point. If it was a nice toupe (or any other hair replacement system) it would be going undetected and there'd be no mention of it here or anywhere. Having said that, Travolta's piece looks the hair on the GI Joe doll I had in '74.

by Anonymousreply 117February 13, 2014 8:13 PM

And then there are the ones who do not try to fight it and look extra hot because they are authentic. Shemar Moore is losing his hair but he is cutting it real close now and he looks great. More recent pics on the URL.

It seems like you can always tell when someone is trying to do the fake thing with plugs and even transplants (at least massive ones)

Does anyone here use a toupee? Or have you had plugs? Are you happy with the results?

No one's piece is as bad as Sean Penn's. I don't exactly know what it is, but I can't look away..

BRENDAN FRASER ... MATT McCONAUGHEY ... BEN AFFLECK (really bad plugs !)

Jim Parsons was on Late Night with Craig Ferguson recently and I was so distracted by his hair piece that I barely heard what he was saying. It was sitting on his head like flattened road kill. Moe from the Three Stooges came to mind. I love JIm, and think he's really cute, but he should just give up and stick with the look he had on the first season of TBBT. That cut gave him an other worldly look that fit the character of Sheldon to a T. And it was flattering.

Jimmy Fallon always jokes about it -- but what's the truth?

I know he has a YT vid getting his hair cut by Sally Hershberger, but she's only cutting the sides?

I have terrible toupee-dar. I got picked up one night years ago and the guy, who was older, was giving me blow job and when I grabbed his had it felt like a Brillo pad. Talk about killing the moment.

The Jeremy Pivens photo of his hair surgery scar is seriously upsetting.

It's amazing he has gotten away with his wigs for so long. But here's photographic proof of how bald he is.

I didn't know there was a site dedicated solely to celebrity balding. The things one learns on the datalounge!

Doug Davidson (Y&R) wears a toupee.

by Anonymousreply 131February 14, 2014 12:58 AM

Foolish question probably but why don't they all just get plugs? I assume most of them could afford it so why bother with the toupee.

Clooney, Affleck

Burt Reynolds, but anyone can tell.

Wait Ben Affleck has plugs? For real?

To me Afflek is one of the more obvious wiggers.

If you recall, Jeremy Piven played "George" on "Jerry," the NBC show within-the-show pilot on "Seinfeld."

R137 It’s like he’s a human wig stand. Hahahahahaha
