"Older", but still single, and never married celebrities
A thread in which we discuss celebrities - rumored to be gay or not - who have nevertheless remained single well past the age when most marry.\
Perfect example - the almost 37 year-old Leonardo DiCaprio.
Justin Theroux, 39. Never publicly linked to a woman. What''s his story?
Kevin Spacey (50) owns this thread.
Still looking for the right girl
Leo is 35
That hobag Dakotah Fanning
A. Breslin - Oscar nominee
Some who come to mind:\
Al Pacino (70).\
Diane Keaton (64).\
Edward Norton (40).\
Cameron Diaz (37).
George Clooney owns this thread!
Most people marry because they think they have to keep up with the expectations of their families and social circles. We''d see a lot fewer marriages if people truly lived their choices rather than giving in to the choices of others. \
I assure you people like Leo do not have the same pressures as "most people."
John Cusack (43)\
Winona Ryder (38)\
And so long as we''re doing "celebrities" and not just movie stars:\
Janeane Garofalo (45)\
Senator Lindsey Graham (54)\
Ann Coulter (48)\
Laura Ingraham (46)\
Monica Crowley (41)\
Maureen Dowd (58)
Do I even need to mention Jodie, Latifah, Anderson C., et al.?
Mary Kay Place\
4 outta 5 are definitely family
What about ME bitches?!!
[quote]well past the age when most marry\
Do MOST people marry these days? I''m not sure they do. I know as many people in long term relationships and single in their forties as I know married people.
It depends on what you mean by married, OP. You mean like a legal heterosexual marriage? or does a partnership that''s basically a marriage count?\
Example r11 list. Jodie was or is in a relationship that''s a marriage so was Melanie Mayron for years.\
Sandra Bullock would have owned this thread a few years ago.
[quote]Ann Coulter (48)\
How that person has remained unmarried is a mystery, wrapped in an enigma.
Leonardo is just crazy about supermodel pussy, and with his pick of the world''s most beautiful women, he won''t be tied down! He''s like Clooney that way.
Well, I know it will get me flamed as a fangurl, but I''ll say it anyway. I don''t think DiCaprio is gay. Not sure why, I just don''t see it.
I think Leo is gay but I don''t think he qualifies as an "older" celebrity. He''s only 35 and it''s not that unusual for a man that age to be single.\
An "older" but still single celebrity is Dana Delany. At the age of 54, she still says in interviews that she''s not the maryying kind.
[quote]I assure you people like Leo do not have the same pressures as "most people."\
Most people find "playing the field" emotionally unsatisfying after thirty. I suppose the only pressure Leo is under is convincing people that he likes women so much that he can''t commit to just one.
Average age for marriage in U.S.\
For women: 25\
For men: 27\
Over 35 and never married, and heterosexual? Highly unusual.
[quote]Most people find "playing the field" emotionally unsatisfying after thirty. \
So why do so many marriages end in divorce? Isn''t it better to never marry if you recognise you are never really going to commit. Doesn''t that show a greater level of personal understanding than someone who marries but suspects they might cheat?
There are nearly 93 million unmarried Americans over age 18, representing roughly 42% of the adult population. - U.S. Census Bureau. “America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2007.”\
Unmarried Americans head more than 51 million households. - U.S. Census Bureau. “America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2007.”\
In 2005, unmarried households became the majority of all U.S. households. - U.S. Census Bureau. American Community Survey: 2005. \
8.9% of the married adult population is aged 18-29 years, compared to 33.7% of the unmarried adult population, while 3.2% of the married adult population is aged 80 years or over, compared to 6.5% of the unmarried adult population. - U.S. Census Bureau. American Community Survey: 2005.
While it''s true that increasing numbers of Americans are single, it''s still relatively uncommon in the U.S. for an adult to go through life without marrying at all.\
Take these 2008 statistics from the Census Bureau, for example (the most recent I could find):\
-- For men ages 40 to 44, 19.7% have never married.\
-- For men ages 45 to 54, 14.3% have never married.\
-- For men ages 75 and over, only 3.8% have never married.\
-- For women ages 40 to 44, 13.5% have never married.\
-- For women ages 45 to 54, 10.3% have never married.\
-- And for women ages 75 and over, only 3.8% have never married.\
In the future, it''s likely that fewer and fewer people will be marrying, so these figures will change. But I still suspect that most people will marry at least once -- particularly once gay marriage becomes legal throughout the U.S.
Gerard Butler has never married. Claims he was in a long term relationship, but has never been see with who ever it was in public. Has been seen "kissing" random women and, rarely, "accompanying" random women to certain events. These women are usually "models." Sometimes not. Butler is 41. Has very diligently feveloped the reputation of being a complete whore as far as women go. Lives in Chelsea, and his long-time manager is gay. The gay manager is in a long term relationship woth an architect.
I did think for a while, that Leo was gay. I don''t anymore. I like the list we''re compiling. I get tired of seeing the same half dozen names trotted out when we talk about closet cases. This thread gives us the opportunity to really think about it, and "cast a larger net."
"Ann Coulter 48"\
They don''t marry horses, do they?!
Queen Latifah- no boyfriend, single, no kids, never married\
She should enter the Convent.\
Also are Charlize Theron,Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz
Wentworth Miller comes to mind. \
BTW, my brother is over 35 and never married, but I''ve never thought of him as anything but straight. It happens.
Drew Barrymore has been married twice, hasn''t she?
R28, Drew Barrymore has been married twice.\
She probably really wants to forget the marriage to Tom "Freddie Got Fingered" Green -- but some of us remember.
I find it funny when guys like Ed Marinaro and Joe Penny get married and have kids for the first time when they''re in their 50s.
The U.S. Census Bureau (1999) reports that between 1975 and 1999, the percentage of people who had never married rose from 22 percent to 28 percent.\
So that''s approaching 30% of all Americans. In the UK the marriage rate is the lowest it''s ever been around 20 in every 1,000, since 1981 the number of marriages has fallen by a third. So celebrities not marrying isn''t unusual at all.
[quote]So why do so many marriages end in divorce? \
Disputes over money
I think this is an interesting thread. In the case of certain celebrities, I think they are simply just too selfish to be married. I think most men and women in that stratosphere find no reason to be committed when they can get whoever and whatever they want. And if you think there is always something better looking/younger/richer around the corner, why settle? not a judgement just an observation.\
For those of us in the normal world, I think a lot of us saw our parents crappy marriages and didn''t want that. In the past society has pressured people to get married and stay married even if you are miserable. I think it is simply becoming more acceptable for people to stay single, and hey more power to them if they know marriage and kids are not for them, better to be honest up front and then no one get hurt.
They do...they do, r27!
Sigh. R21 has no understanding of how to read statistics.
Wentworth said he will marry soon, i wish i was the lucky girl
Alan Rickman. Claims to be in a longterm relationship with a doggy-looking politician but doesn''t live with her
OP forgets that Gays can marry in many countries, outside of the USA. So married does not mean straight anymore. Time to update your terminology.\
The real chickenshit closet cases are married and paired off early.
Adrien Brody comes to mind. 37, his last two relationships only lasted a little over two years each.
George Eads. 43
"Most people marry because they think they have to keep up with the expectations of their families and social circles. We''d see a lot fewer marriages if people truly lived their choices rather than giving in to the choices of others."\
No, most people marry because they don''t want to die alone \
"Do MOST people marry these days? I''m not sure they do. I know as many people in long term relationships and single in their forties as I know married people."\
Maybe you need to venture outside of New York City. Here in the red states most people are married by 26 or so.
No, most people marry because they don''t want to die alone."\
Getting married does not assure that. Your spouse can still die before you.
We all die alone.
Unless you both take cyanide at the exact same time, or a car crash etc.
R9 mentioned Janeane Garofalo but I could swear she was married years ago(back when she was in her twenties) to someone who isn''t famous.
[quote]Maybe you need to venture outside of New York City. Here in the red states most people are married by 26 or so.\
I''m not in New York City, though I did once live in York. I''m in the UK where fewer people than ever before are getting married. I wouldn''t think it surprising if any of my friends never got married and I certainly wouldn''t assume they were gay simply because they didn''t.\
You can see from the linked graph, however, how many men in each US sate never marry. The average looks like about 30% to me. Far more men than are gay.
"You can see from the linked graph, however, how many men in each US sate never marry"\
Most of those people will go on to marry in the future. Maybe you should go through the posts on this thread, like r24. He posted that less than 4% of men and women over 75 have never been married. And I''d suspected most of those people are gay.
If you are not married by 35 - you are gay.\
In Nashville, Tenn. that age would be, 17 for boys, 13 for girls.
Simon Cowell, 50. But that may soon change.
or it may not
I think more celebs want to keep more of their own money and property should they divorce, so this could explain the unwillingness to marry. Female celebs are less willing to marry someone below themselves financially.
Matthew Perry (40)\
Bronson Pinchot (51)
There is a huge shift happening against marriage. Sure only 3 percent of people who are 75 now have never been married. However, when my generation is 75, in about 40 years, it will be a much larger percentage. There is a story in the New York Times that touches on this issue, about how "adulthood" is being delayed so more and more people are getting married at a later age.\
I don''t think marriage is necessary for me to have a fulfilling life. If, by some miracle, I am able to sustain a functional, loving relationship for an extended period of time, I''d do it. But I don''t see marriage as the key to happiness.
My cousins, two sisters in their late 30''s early 40''s have never married. They''ve had a couple of long term relationships...like three or four years duration, but never married. They are straight. Both of them are successful over-achievers and always have been. My mother thinks they have a fear of failure and would want unreasonable guarantees that tehre is a 99% chance of "success" as in for life. And there are no guarnatees of course. I agree, tho. I think the fear of failure really plays into it. Especially if you''re an over-achiever type.
[quote] Janeane Garofalo (45)\
She''s not gay, she''s very liberal and outspoken about her politics, she''d likely be out and proud if she were a lesbian. She says she would, when asked about the rumors. As far why she isn''t married, she has an acerbic personality and I doubt anyone has wanted to marry her. Not anyone she wanted to marry.
[quote] mentioned Janeane Garofalo but I could swear she was married years ago(back when she was in her twenties) to someone who isn''t famous.\
According to IMDb, she''s actually still married to that guy! They married in 1992, but I think separated shortly after and for some reason never bothered to get a divorce. I think she might''ve touched on that subject once on her Air America radio show, but I don''t remember the explanation.
R:33? As soon as gay marriage is legal in California (and it WILL be someday - TRUST!) I fully intend on changing Billy Campbell''s marital status.\
Well...as soon as I can get my hands on some hair or fingernail clippings. Using chopped up pieces of an old VHS of THE ROCKETEER doesn''t seem to be having the intended affect...
Billy? I''m your GREATEST FAN!! (Cackles wildly)
Who cares Marriage is so last century!
Shemar Moore (40)\
Victor Webster (37)
Cusack will be 44 June 28.
Wentworth Miller turned 38 last week.
Hart Bochner (53)
Grayson McCouch (41)
Bronson Pinchot was involved with Amy Heckerling for quite awhile, but I''m too lazy to NNDB it for you. \
Oh, what the hell:
But unless he has been married or had children, he still belongs on this list, R68
[quote]or had children\
The OP doesn''t say anything about children
True, R70, but he''s never been married, so he fits.
"However, when my generation is 75, in about 40 years, it will be a much larger percentage. There is a story in the New York Times that touches on this issue, about how "adulthood" is being delayed so more and more people are getting married at a later age."\
Delaying marriage isn''t the same thing as never marrying. You can''t bet your money that the % of people who are never married at 75 probably won''t change that much over the years. You get a lot of social and financial benefits from marrying. That is why gay people want to get married, and why the vast majority of straights will marry at some point in their lives.
I''m normally the last to cry "frau" but this is pathetic. How did we go from personal freedom to some crazy suburban world where everyone is expected to be married AT ALL, much less by a certain age? The gays are as bad as the straights now, which is an odd way to acheive equality.
R21: Holy Flyover state! There''s no way you have ever set foot in a major city.
R68, okay I believe, Bronson Pinchot is straight. I have to say, though, he''s the gayest straight guy I''ve ever seen.
I''m normally the last to cry "frau" but this is pathetic. How did we go from personal freedom to some crazy suburban world where everyone is expected to be married AT ALL, much less by a certain age?"\
Tell me about it. Even my 70-year-old parents don''t think like this.
Hugh Grant (will be 50 this fall)
Sean ''P Diddy'' Combs is in his early 40s and has never gotten married.

I thought you were talking about George Michael and his album "Older"
Emily Procter is gorgeous and Miranda R is dead
Miranda Richardson is not dead!
Hildegarde lived to 99.
R95, the Richardson who is dead is Natasha Richardson, Vanessa Redgraves daughter.%0D\
Miranda Richardson is a British actress who is in her 50''s and has never been married.
"Winona is 38."%0D\
Oh please that bitch has go to be older than that.
She was born Oct 29th 1971.
Dina Meyer (40)
Me! But that may change soon.
R. Seacrest, Esquire and Mormon Enthusiast
Jorja Fox, 42 next month
Isn''t Emily Procter close friends with Jorja Fox?
[quote]Yeah, what''s the deal with Miranda Richardson?\
A few years ago, Jorja Fox and George Eads said on The View that when they turned 45, if they weren''t married yet, they would ''consumate their friendship''.%0D\
Only a couple of best gay friends would say something like that.%0D\
Selma Blair and Radha Mitchell

[quote]Average age for marriage in U.S. For women: 25 For men: 27
That stat seems awfully dated. I have quite a few straight friends, and I'd say maybe 10% got married before 30. Maybe in Bumfucke they still marry young, but not among young urban professionals.
[quote]Over 35 and never married, and heterosexual? Highly unusual.
It's not "highly" unusual. I know five straight people who are over 35 and never married. All have "issues," to put it mildly: the two straight women I know over 35, both of whom are good-looking (one's an all-out knockout), both manage to get themselves entangled with guys who either aren't marriage material or guys who basically turn out to be psychos (one of them dated two guys in a row who turned out to be bipolar). Of the three guys (also good-looking), one's a perpetual child, much like David Duchovny on "Californication," one has bizarre self-esteem issues when it comes to women and can't keep a girlfriend for more than a few months before pushing her away, and one's in a weird long-distance LTR with a woman who lives in London. My best friend just got married for the first time at 38, too, after swearing the entire time I've known her (25 years) that she's too independent to ever be tied down that way.
Selma Blair married Ahmet Zappa in 2004, when she was 32. Divorced in 2006.
Leonardo Dicaprio is 37!!!!!!!!%0D\
how old am I?
Isnt Crystal Bernard in that list somewhere
Jacqueline Bisset (68)
Colin Farrell. His "marriage" was a fake, according to Amelia Warner. They never had to get a divorce.
Celibate now, i.e., just uses hookers
Brother is gay, two sisters have no children. All older than him. Strange family.
Hmmm mm. I just assumed Lil Leo was a mo. Are you all sure he isn't gay?
And of course, just because they are or have been married, doesn't mean they are straight.. Cough Georgie Girl, Miss Travolta, cough cough.
Donna Mills (69)
Hasn't DM been in a relationship with some guy for like 20 years?
Donna Mills is gay.
Kamala Harris, 47
R125 they have never lived together and she did not include him at all when she adopted her child years ago. They are more than likely pals or something.
Oh ok, I figured she was a lesbian but then I saw her on E! with the daughter and supposedly long time boyfriend.
Holland Taylor, Diane Keaton, and Allison Janney are all old maid spinsters as near as I can gather.
Diana Keaton has two daughters, r130. That disqualifies her spinster status unless they were immaculately conceived. Allison Janney and Holland Taylor are out lesbians to everyone except people like yourself who live in flyover states.
R131 Diane Keaton has one adopted daughter and one adopted son but I haven't a clue as to if they were both the results of two different immaculate conceptions by two different ladies.
Please also note that I was obviously joking with my verbiage somewhat and I also cannot quite say that I live in a flyover state.
Have a nice day and I am sorry for having disturbing your delicate messageboard sensibilities upon this day just soo very much.
R131, Janney has a history of dating men and has even been engaged to one.
IM A 47 YEAR OLD WOMAN WHO HAVE BEEN WITH MEN AND WOMEN WAS MARRIED TO A WOMAN FOR 4 YEARS NOW DIVORCED FROM HER NOW MARRIED AGAIN TO ANOTHER WOMAN STILL NOT HAVING GOOD SEX. TO OLD TO HAVE A CHILD BUT WANTS GOOD SEX. AM I GAY OR NOT? I'M COMFUSSED.
If you're rich, famous and successful and you have a shitload of money wouldn't that make you a bit reluctant to enter into a marriage contract (and it is a contract) which could put half your wealth at risk at the whim of your spouse?
Francesca Annis, 67 years old and never married.
Jacqueline Bisset, also 67 years old and never married.
Alan Rickman never married his partner and they've been together since the 60s.
Both Bobby Sherman and Jay (Dennis the Menace) shacked up with Sal Mineo.
I remember Lloyd Bochner, father of Hart. He always played an arrogant bad guy. Whenever you watched a detective show/mystery and Lloyd Bochner or Bradford Dillman was the guest star, you didn't even bother to watch the episode because you knew who the killer was. Those two guys always played the guilty weasel.
Alison Janney is not gay and was married at least once.
I love when people think everyone pass the age of thirty is wishing to get married. Most are but me pushing fifty and still single I know people question whether or not I'm gay. I just haven't met my soul mate. A friend of my complained that her doctor husband works to many long hours. My reply, I guess those long hours didn't bother you when you two purchase your third home.
