Gay life in Mobile, AL

I left Mobile in 1989, and wonder if there''s much of a gay scene there. I remember there was the Fireside, and a club on Royal Street that had drag shows. Anything changed?

• There is a club called Gabriel''s that''s downtown. Otherwise, the same: the wealthier guys sneak over to NO when they can get away from their wives, etc.

• I left Mobile in 1987. I never really knew there was a gay scene except for the times i went with college friends to dance at the gay bars; the music was so much better.\ \ R1 is right. There were a lot of married guys from home in the New Orleans bars trolling around.

• Those who left MOB -- did you leave because of the lackluster gay scene or for a job? \ \ Curious.

• Drag shows are sad in big cities, in small redneck towns they are downright depressing.

• They had an adult theater where there was lots of action, but a lot of it was police.

• the Fireside was still there in 1989? I left in 1976 and it was there, acrossed the street there was a bar that did drag shows, maybe the Princess lounge? I may be wrong about the name.

• My now husband and I left in 1984 for jobs in Florida. First in Jacksonville, but we've been in West Palm Beach since 1987.

• FTM, we hang out with gay and straight friends and family when we visit Mobile. Don't now about the bar scene, etc. Can't stand the smoke, anyway.
